Turning Natural Review - Anacostia - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"We love an on-the-go breakfast that gives us an energy boost that isn’t from a short-lived sugar rush. And on those days, we go to Turning Natural. The Anacostia juice bar serves about 20 different smoothie and fresh juice options, including our favorite, the Bob Marley, a tropical smoothie full of papaya, pineapple, mango, and peach. And they get you in and out in under 10 minutes, so you have time to stop even on those days that you’re running a little behind schedule. Just tell your boss it was your daily dose of self-care. I arrived at this location at exactly 4:30. This is my first time coming to this location. I have been to other locations of plenty of times. I really love their spinach patties and the Marion Berry smoothie but for the establishment to have a sign on the door that closes at five and I come before five and they’re actually closed. It’s heartbreaking, because I was craving a smoothie and spinach patty for me to arrive just for nobody to be inside. I will continue to do business with turning natural, but not this location because I literally looked up the location before I drove here to be disappointed.

Google
Only juice shop in the area and it's delicious! Visited on a saturday and got the Nipsy Blue and Blue Bear and they were delicious. They also advertise great snacks. I ordered a spinach and veggie pattie.

This is THE obvious choice for smoothies in DC! The only competition would be their other locations!! I love the consistency and the quality of the food. Seriously. Look no further than Turning Natural and all of the locations are great so visit the closest one to you!

Google
This is the worst location they have. They are always short on product, short on staff, and they run out of food everyday. I called the store 3x today to see if they had any Pattie’s left and the phone just goes to a voicemail telling you there not available. Lastly there bottled juices are grossly over priced and they are usually low in stock on those as well. Dear Owner, stop being cheap and keep 2 workers on the clock at all times instead of working 1 staff to death. Note: The store issues do not involve their regular workers. It involves a cheap owner and poor management.

If they use a little more spinach in their green drink and less spirulina powder I would give them a 5 star rating, also get some more customer friendly people to take orders would be a good look also.

Google
I love turning natural but will be staying away due to the horrible customer service. I went to H street first and they were closed during business hours. I went to the ac street location walked in and was the only customer insider. I was not greeted. When I got to the register with two bottled drinks I was just given a total. Still not greeted or asked if I wanted anything else. I walked out !

The smoothies are good, but unfortunately this shop isn’t great. They have been out of a particular option on their menu, every single day and the person attending the store has not been pleasant. I will try another nearby location to see if there’s a difference, as I would LOVE to support this company.

I've been going to another location for years so when I pulled up to this one as its close to my work , I was excited! Maybe my expectations were too high. I encountered an unfriendly , uninterested, darker skinned guy w locs that was unhelpful & nonchalant. I couldn't hear a word he was saying & even after asking what he said multiple times he made no effort to adjust his volume. He said his name was "Cam ". I was able to get adequate service at the anacostia location but it did make me late for work . I really had to try so hard to support this business .

Yelp
Loved the smoothie, the service was not the best but at least it was quick. There's no where to sit down inside so the only option is to grab and go. I would come back for the delicious smoothie if I were in the area. Prices are also not bad.

Yelp
Turning Natural is a black owned company that offers a short variety of healthier options on juice, smoothies, acai & pitaya bowls, waffles, plant based burgers, and salad Though I've seen this place a few times around DC (H St, Anacostia & Eastern Market), I recently started to go to the Eastern Market location. I really like the Muhammad Ali Smoothie (pictured as the red one). I get it post workout, and it certainly does help revatilize. I will say it is a bit pricey despite them claiming its "affordable" (my Muhammad Ali Smoothie is nearly $10 for the 16 oz, which isn't a big cup). My friend seems to like the Nipsey Blue Smoothie (pictured below as well). If I return, I may get that flavor & test it out. I may try other non-smoothie items on the menu. The location at Eastern Market is pretty small, so it may be ideal to get there during the day. Probably no more than 10 people can fit in at a time. The service can be a little annoying (products out of stock, so certain items on the menu won't be available). The ambiance seems pretty typical of a Smoothie shop. Parking is plentiful depending on what day & it is conveniently located by Eastern Market, Trader Joe's & the Eastern Market Metro.

Yelp
I got my nails done next door, I was pretty hungry, so I decided to try this place out. The reviews on this page were not too good, but actually I was very surprised how good the juice and the food were, I ordered a green juice and an empanada, both were so fresh and delicious. Service was very disappointing, I had some questions about the smoothies and juices, the person on the cashier wasn't happy to have to answer my questions. Food 5 stars, service 2 stars.

Yelp
It makes me really sad to be writing this review and giving them a three star. I used to go to the one on H Street all the time. When that one closed, I saw that they had one on C St. After getting annoyed at myself for craving them for too long I decided to make the hike over there and when I got there, they were closed...But not closed because it was outside of their hours or on a day that they are closed. They were actually supposed to be open, but there was nobody to be found. I chalked it up as a loss and came back a few days later and got my juices and smoothie. Which btw were spot on! That was a few weeks ago... And today again I went to go get juices and a smoothie and they are closed. It's really unfortunate. I guess you just have to catch them when you catch them?

Yelp
This has to be the most poorly run place in DC. Every single time I come here this place is never open when it's supposed to be... in the middle of the day. And it seems like when it is open they're out of everything. I came here today, after trying several other times, thinking they would for sure be open since it was lunch time. I was mistaken. I arrived to a locked door with a small handwritten note saying they were out until 11:30. I arrived at 11:15 so I decided to wait 15 minutes thinking they would be back on time but no one came back. During this time, about 5 other customers showed up as well and were surprised to see that it was closed in the middle of the day during lunch time so they quickly left. By 11:40, no one had come back yet still so I decided to run errands and come back. When I came back the door was still locked and it was clear that no one had come back or was coming back anytime soon. I'm really shocked that the owner would find this type of stuff acceptable considering how much business he's losing from the business always being closed in the middle of the day. I've given up at this point.

Yelp
Healthy food. It compared to others is much healthier. Turning Natural is a small local juice and smoothie place. Also has some vegan food. You can get a good juice program started. Get juice. It has lots. The best are the smoothies. Has vegan choices. The Happy Hemp is the best smoothie. It's $5.75 for a medium. This contains hemp protein, mango, pineapple juice, spinach, and spirulina. Many add ins are available. They also have dairy free treats. Among these are the slices of vegan cakes. They have a vegan sweet potato cheesecake that's especially good. It's $6 for most of these desserts. There's also other food items. It has a location close to Eastern Market. Just no indoor seating so it's carryout only. There's a few benches outside.

Yelp
Starting in historic Anacostia, this is one of many Turning Natural shops in the D.C. area. Woman-owned and Black-owned, Turning Natural started as a smoothie shop making fresh smoothies out of better-for-you ingredients. Now they sell other food products like vegetarian empanadas. This location is in Eastern Market in one of the new buildings by the historic market. It's near Eat Brgz. It's a small shop and built for takeout. The staff is very friendly, efficient and helpful. If you love berries, order the Marion Berry. It comes with strawberries, raspberries, etc.

Yelp
I've been meaning to update my review but the service has got better! Sometimes all it takes is a conversation.... I had the chance to meet the owner one day when I came in. He was really really nice and just listening to his vision and what made him start Turning Natural was so inspiring and just made me like them even more. I frequent this location often because my office is not too far. The products are still A-1 no complaints there and the young lady that I was complaining about having a bad attitude has definitely improved, and with the circumstances of the world you never know what people are going through! I'll recommend this spot for anyone in the area looking for some good smoothies and healthy snacks

Yelp
Is the rent free? How is it that out of the last 10 times I've been there it's only open 3 of the times during their posted business hours. It does not matter if I come in the morning or afternoon, NO ONE IS THERE!!! How do you run a business like that? I'm assuming the owner does not know but after seeing a another review state the same thing over a year and a half ago, I assume they do know.

Yelp
Completely agree with Victoria B's review below, inconsistent hours and out of everything when they are open. If you do manage to catch this business when it's actually open, you receive the absolute worst customer service. I've kept coming back because the location is convenient, but last visit the cashier was so rude I will not be coming back.

Yelp
I love the juice, smoothie, and bowl options but it's frustrating that the customer service is lacking. I felt like I was bothering the server by asking questions or suggestions but he did give me a healthy serving and my bowl was beyond delicious!

Yelp
Love the smoothies and the customer service varies depending who's working that day. Ive experienced good and bad service from this place

Yelp
Tried to go twice now. Both times store was locked and said they were on break. Waited an extra 10 minutes before leaving to see if they would come back the first time, was tired of waiting so I left. This time didn't bother waiting.don't think I'd give it a 3rd chance

Yelp
Delicious smoothies and Jamaican empanadas but customer service is terrible :( I've been there three times and they never acknowledge their customers , reply to a hi or thank you. Last weekend there was a young guy working at the counter he was using his computer and did not even looked at us when we tried to place an order, he genuinely looked annoyed when we asked questions.
