The Best Affordable Restaurants in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Discount rib eye can be fraught with peril — unless it’s steak night at Turtle Bay in the French Quarter. Get a 10-ounce “petite rib eye” served with garlic bread and a stuffed potato. Or do like a regular, and order the big’n and split with a friend. Lots of other eats, but carnivores love this joint. Turtle Bay also delivers for a $5 service fee — a much preferable option to third-party apps." - Beth D’Addono

New Orleans’ Best Chicken Wings | Eater New Orleans

"If you find yourself in the French Quarter with a hankering for wings, look no further than the kitschy and beloved Turtle Bay. They’re not the innovative, game-changing variety, but are well-priced (20 wings go for around $20) and are served naked, medium, or hot with ranch or blue cheese, classic." - Beth D’Addono

New Orleans’s Best Late Night Restaurants and Food | Eater New Orleans

"Open 24 hours — daily — Turtle Bay is well known for its 20-ounce rib eye served with potato skins and garlic bread, big enough for two to share. The thin-crust pizza is the cheesiest, with the cheeseburger and Hawaiian pies leading as customer favorites. Nachos and hot wings are good, there is boiled crawfish when it’s in season, and the bartender pours a strong drink — all in all, one of the best (and only) 24-hour food options in town." - Beth D’Addono

Google
Hole in the wall with great food and service. Nothing fancy, just the kind of place where you feel at home hanging out with friends. I had gumbo, and it was excellent with a cold beer (they have a great variety of local ones) servers were super nice, quick, and had great suggestions.

Google
I've only been here a couple of times, and honestly it was mostly because Coops was too busy. I'll have to change that habit cause these crawfish are fire! I didn't get any drinks, just a couple of goslings, but everyone else was enjoying their beers. We mostly stuck with the crawfish, although someone got the wings which smelled equally delicious. I had to cut out early to catch my flight, but we were all enjoying ourselves on their back patio. A good last experience before I traveled home to the frozen north. Shout-out to Chris on the crawfish boil, they helped right the wrong of the previous nights meal.

Google
Bay-bee...We left here with the "itis". This is a spot highly recommended by locals. Pizza 👍🏽👍🏽 Wings👍🏽👍🏽 burgers proceed with caution (ours was overcooked). We went upstairs to watch the game. Christina (or Chris something) was very personable. Definitely a go to spot!

Google
Googled nearest burger and this place popped up on our walk. The first and only burger we had while in New Orleans and it was perfect. Quick service, really good burger and portion. Wait staff and bartenders are all really cool, def a chill spot.

Google
My sister and our husbands came for Taylor Swift weekend and got to people watch from above and I took my mom for a mini vacation and had and amazing dinner - the cheeseburgers, fried mushrooms, and potato skins are all great! Everything that comes out of that kitchen has to be amazing! We sat in the quiet little courtyard and the gentleman that brought us our food genuinely cared if we enjoyed it - his hospitality is amazing!

Google
The servers here were outstanding. They were personable, kind and jovial. I really appreciate that in my restaurant experience. I had loaded nachos and customized drink to go in the skull glowing cup. We also got mozzarella sticks and they were way better than I expected because they seemed like they were actually homemade. Dined with my dog outside in the back. Relaxed environment and crowd. The food was fresh and delicious

Google
Standard bar food but the service was exceptionally welcoming. We found this place outside the French Market and it turned out to be the right choice (I ordered my Guinness Stout).

Google
When looking in the front door of this place it looks like a dive bar but once you go in you realize it is a dive bar but so much more to boot. Good drinks, great food, and the liveliest crowd in town. My wife and I had fried mushrooms and the house special Huge Ribeye Steak. All were excellent. The young lady behind the bar on the patio was super friendly and brought my wife an Old Fashioned (kind of) that my wife loved. We had a great time at Turtle Bay and look forward to returning.

Yelp
Fantastic experience on vacation needing quick bite to eat for lunch. Was wandering nearby my hotel and saw the Tuesday special sign, and 8 oz filet with potato and garlic bread for $15.95. are you kidding me? Fantastic cut of meat, cooked perfectly medium rare and tender, quite the treat. This bar/restaurant also has a ribeye for $15/10 oz and $22/20 oz. And my understanding is this is a great place for late night food as the kitchen stays open until 5:00 a.m. .. The service was awesome even though at that time of day, it was just one bartender. He was really kind and not forcing people to sit at the bar for his convenience, which I would have understood had he asked. Super friendly and helpful as well. Definitely a big contrast to a nearby bar / eatery. Highly recommend especially if you're visiting and need some excellent food at a reasonable price, as well as away from the craziness of Bourbon Street.

Yelp
Great bar to get a late night drink and Ordered some nachos and bbq chicken pizza. Everything comes out at a decent time and tasted reasonable. It's nachos and pizza if I had something bad to say that would be an issue.

Yelp
Great dive bar, can tell locals eat here. Burger was good too, mellow vibes on a Friday afternoon.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome spot to stop in for a change of pace from traditional Cajun cuisine. Burgers, wings, and the innovative creamy stuffed potato skin! Excellent bar service and really fun vibe!
google avatar

Yelp
A local tour guide recommended this spot for a late night bite and drinks, and I have to say that Turtle Bay definitely did not disappoint. They had a decent crowd the whole time we were there, but the service was friendly, quick, efficient, and attentive throughout the night. We grabbed some burgers and a Hawaiian pizza...both were absolutely amazing. We were absolutely famished after our tour so it definitely hit the spot. The drinks were also perfectly made on the generous side. Between the meal and the drinks, it ended up being the perfect way to end the night. I'm sure dealing with tourists all the time gets annoying, but 5 stars and 2 thumbs up for being so welcoming and hospitable!

Yelp
Turtle Bay always greets us awesomely for our annual Very Bad Santa Crawl. We have tons of fun and this is one of our favorite spots. They have great drinks and awesome food. We tend to spend more time at this location than any of our other stops. Thanks to the staff for having all of us and putting up with our holiday shenanigans!!
google avatar

Yelp
GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE We were craving wings so we gave this place a try. We were able to sit down right away. The bartender was our server and while behind the bar, she was able to still be attentive to us. They were very accommodating and able to do multiple wing flavors. We all got the Hot Buffalo, Honey BBQ, and Asian Wings. I also got a Grilled Chicken Sandwich. The wings were great and each flavor was as expected. The "hot" was not very hot. The grilled chicken sandwich was not great as the chicken was dry and the bun was extremely basic. The potato skin was good. Overall, I would go back for the wings and good service.

Yelp
Not sure how they have 4 stars. Spent an hour waiting on a pizza, wings and fries. When wings did come they weren't cooked per ask, minimal sauce, NO FRIES! And the pizza was mediocre. Had to leave to catch a flight. Terrible service. The place wasn't even that busy. Totally disappointed, Had to leave before even receiving wings and fries. Not to mention it was freezing cold inside.
google avatar

Yelp
Dive bar with 5 star steak and service. I read about this place in an article and decided to try it. We all got the ribeye steak and loved it. It was cooked to perfection with a potato skin and garlic bread. Ordered a side salad that was fresh with lots of ingredients. One of the best meals I had in New Orleans. The woman and man who waited on us and brought out the food were attentive and prompt even though the place was busy. People were ordering pizzas to go. Next time I'm in NOLA I'm trying the pizza.

Kenneth D.

Yelp
Good atmosphere and great wait staff. The food was excellent. We had a big group and the back outside patio was spacious and clean.

Yelp
Great place to end your night (or start)! I came here on a late night looking for food and it didn't disappoint. I recommend the pizza and burgers. The staff it super friendly and it feels like they've known you. I also appreciated the amount of locals that come by. Now, this is not on Bourbon Street but it's the perfect vibe to get away from that crowd.

Yelp
Ok so we went somewhere else and it was a bust, walked out and turtle bay was next door so we figured why not. The service was AMAZING!!! I feel like NOLA was hit and miss on service, some where shot and curt and it was very displacing. But the young lady working this place was so awesome I can't complain. Started with Nachos and we devoured them in 2 min. The chips were fresh, the chili was delicious. Ooo what a start. But it was just a wind up to a delicious meal. Idk why we were expecting less, maybe it's cause it was more of a bar vibes. But the food was so fresh. The burgers were cooked perfectly. It's like SpongeBob was in the back cause it was made with love

Yelp
Great pizza great beer nice cozy place I have been there twice and would go back again

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -Turtle Bay is open 24/7. -I came here to enjoy some local Abita beer along w/ some chicken wings. -The wings came out nice & hot! -As a matter of fact they were so good that I influenced some other people sitting at the bar to ordering some after they smelled mine. Overall, the bar wasn't too crazy packed, very slow in the evening when I visited which was perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
Tuesday night special: $16.25 8oz filet mignon. Service was fantastic. Bartender was very friendly and attentive. Food was good. 4 stars only because the filet was well vs medium. I still ate every bite.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good service was good ambiance was great. Was here for the first time with friends. They have good football beer specials. Bathroom could be cleaner though...

Yelp
Love this bar but don't come here if you're uptight and shit. My sister and I had a great artichoke dip. 10/10. And we stayed for the bama/Tennessee game. Asked for a tap list but the server was like "no what do you like and I'll recommend something" love that. No idea what I had but it was an amber and it was incredible. I was there ten years ago as well. Fun bartender then. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely be back. Oh! And the back patio is great. That's where we sat and loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
Pandii was nice enough to recommend Turtle Bay to us at the end of her Bar Crawl (Big Easy Walking Tour) This place was so clutch and the food was so good. Our side salad had fresh garden vegetables, the burger was tasty but the Ribeye was delicious! No joke, I was very surprised plus the prices were affordable. The steak quality was better than a lot of expensive restaurants in the area. The other reviews aren't lying, this place is worth a try.
google avatar

Yelp
It's really a dive bar aesthetic but yet relaxing. The ambiance is so relaxing I almost forgot this is a dive bar. Recognition here is key to good service when they're a bit full of patrons. I was abke to get a good margarita with a r a ally good tequila selection for a bit over 9 bucks so it's not too bad in my opinion for a dove type spot. There seems to be some good selections on tequila and rum options.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
I'll start by saying I don't remember the time I ate here as it was after a long day of college football. This time however, was so nice and pleasant. The bartenders were kind, the drinks were strong. Any place I can get a double + red bull for under $10 - I'm loving! One really cool part about this place is the sign that says "Free Big Light & draft from kickoff to the first score of every Saints game". How cool!? There is a small courtyard outback with a tv for games but inside has so much charm and decor you'll find yourself wanting to snag a table and just gaze around. Can't wait to return and try out their tasty menu.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm impressed with the food here. Damn good for bar fare. The fried mushrooms are a thing of beauty, especially when you've been drinking. So crisp and satisfying and the portion is enough to split. Excellent veggies burgers; they include TWO patties so you certainly don't leave hungry. Great flavor, with nice fresh toppings, and you get to dress it yourself as everything is at your table. As far as the beverages, I've only tried their wine, but it's decent and a good price. I like the Pino grigio.

Yelp
Husband and I visited NOLA for our dating anniversary. We wanted an authentic Sunday football experience. Our Uber recommended this local spot and we loved it. Amazing ambience and just overall great vibes. We were able to enjoy some bites (loved my juicy steak deal) and cold beers. Would def recommend!
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
What do I say about one of the best dive bars I've been to in NOLA other than recommend everyone goes here. I had a group of friends I met up with that said the food was so good here, they were happy to go a 2nd time. The $13 10z steak was so outstanding - the pictures do not do it justice. Medium rare to perfect, it was such a tender and delicious cut of meat with some very delicious garlic bread. I love that the beers come in big pours, because I definitely had more than just one. The service was fantastic as I was in a large group and we also split the wings, which were freaking outstanding. Such an outstanding place to eat or drink, I know I'll be making another trip next time I'm in the Crescent City.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bar, great bar tender, great drinks and a lot of fun. We had a great time and I will visit again!

Paige M.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this place... felt like the gentleman who was working was a long time friend. The swishroom burger and mozzarella sticks were great! They give you big cups for your drink which is always a plus. Great vibe, great staff and great food. 10/10
google avatar

Zachery P.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken gumbo and a vodka sour. The gumbo was plain but good. My dad and brother both ordered the Ribeye which was paper thin. Decent place to grab a drink but probably wouldn't go back.

Michael G.

Yelp
What nice things can I not say about Turtle Bay. We were in NOLA for a few days and went to this place twice. Once for some takeout appetizers before a ghost tour and again for lunch our last day there. Food: We got potato skins for an app the first nighht and they were some of the best I've had. Hot, melty and with a tron of bacon. On our last day I got the gumbo and an order of fries. Both were delicious and fresh. The seasoning on the fries was to die for (even though I suspect it is Tony's lol) My partner got the crawfish boil to share with our two friends. It is an obscene amount of food and such a great value. It was all amazing and cooked to perfection. Service: We had the pleasure of having three different people help us on our visits. The customer service is amazing and friendly. Also, Eric is the man. He deserves a raise. Definitey check this place out if you need a quick bite while in the French Quarter.
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Turtle Bay is a Decatur dive bar on a strip of dive bars that happens to serve food. The star of the menu here is the $20 20oz ribeye steak. Dont even bother with the smaller steak, go big or go home. The steak is served with a mini baked potato and buttered French bread. Eating at the bar is the best way to go, the ac unit drips over the tables inside and if the outside courtyard isn't packed you will be visited by some French Quarter Norwegian Warf Rats. The steak is seasoned perfectly and served 24 hours a day. They buy a whole primal so the thickness of your steak will depend on the size of the primal and whose cutting it. I will be back.
google avatar

Bethany C.

Yelp
Traveled to New Orleans and we love to eat. Attempted to eat at another restaurant based on reviews but it was closed. Happened upon Turtle Bay by accident and we could not have been more pleased. Ambiance was great, food was delicious, and service was the best we received on the whole trip. Naomi was friendly and made a great suggestion for the filet special. We nearly always eat seafood when we are in a city with such great seafood options, but changed our mind based on her recommendation. I cannot say enough good things about Naomi and Turtle Bay. This will be a regular stop for future trips to NOLA.
google avatar

Jessi F.

Yelp
Service was fast and friendly! Food was delicious. We tried the cheese sticks, 1/2 lb burger, ribeye, gumbo, and pulled pork potato skins. The pulled pork potato skins was the star. Soooooo good. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
ALRIGHTY THEN.... Chris Cat here, and Back in the Saddle. Here is another Series of BIG EASY Restarants that I have eaten at lately. Meow for Meow....... I have been lucky to run into some fun spots recently I popped in to TURTLE BAY BAR AND RESTAURANT at 1119 Decaturtoday to grab some takeout, and ending up staying quite a while. The Talented bartender named Eric was taking care of a nice crowd of patrons. He was welcoming, fast to get me a cold beverage, and put my 1/2 pound Cheeseburger Takeout order into the kitchen for me. Eric was really good at keeping an eye on his customers and serving them both food and drink. It wasn't super busy, but he enjoyed being on Point, being engaged, and that is always great to see!! Initially I ordered the Cheeseburger as takeout as I mentioned. A few minutes in TURTLE BAY made me want to STAY!! So I did!! I had good company at the bar on each side, and a few customers joined us along the way. I was at Turtle Bay for just over an hour or so. I didn't drink on this visit, but will at next visit. I was in more of a sweet tooth mood with my lunch, and that usually begets a Coke/Pepsi out of the fountain. The Burger arrived, and it was Big and looking Delicious. It was served with an Adorably Size twice baked/stuffed potato that took a few bites to get down, but I almost tried to eat the entire thing in one bite just because it looked so Tasty. Meow Meow!! Purr PURR!! I finally dove into the Burger after smacking my Lips a few times over the tastiness of the Stuff Potato Item..... Just a nice touch, and Fun Sized!! The 1/2 Pound Cheeseburger did not disappoint. I ordered my Burger Medium Well, and with American Cheese. Turtle Bay offers a 3 cheese Burger which will be next on my list, if not the SHRISHMOON Burger which is Burger topped with Sauteed Mushrooms and Swiss Cheese. When I was in Turtle Bay, I noticed it was TUESDAY, and their TUESDAY SPECIAL was an 8 OZ FILET MIGNON. That FILET became my DINNER as I ordered the SPECIAL as Takeout. I didn't wait long to get into the FILET when I returned home either. Great piece of meat, just a great FILET through and through.... Tender, melting in your mouth. I could see myself having some great buns in my kitchen, and cutting the Filet in 2, and Frankensteining into TWO Filet Mignon sandwiches. The FILET was well seasoned, and cooked to the perfect temperature I requested. OF COURSE there was another Cute Mini Stuffed Potato(That AGAIN got TAKEN down in 3 BITES or so), and it was also served with some Tasty Garlic Bread. If you are on DECATUR, and looking to get a great drink, or Burger, or Steak(They do a HUGE RIBEYE aka 20 oz SPECIAL every day), then take a RIDE on the TURTLE BAY EXPRESS, and CHOO CHOO to some great food, and service!! I heard from someone at the Bar that TURTLE BAY also does great PIZZA's, so Soon, I will review the PIZZA, and see how it rates. UPDATE(A FEW DAYS LATER) - I ordered a Pizza from Turtle Bay at 8 am the other morning, and enjoyed it on so many levels. Firstly because that there is a place that EXISTS that cooks pizza 24 hours a day. 2nd It was a tasty Pizza and cheesy, and READY in 15 to 20 minutes. I was waiting on groceries to arrive, and figured, What the Heck, I've never had a Pizza cooked fresh at this time of day Let's see what they throw at me. I ate half for breakfast, and the rest for lunch and dinner. Pizza seems to be tough to get my hands on in the Big Easy, so I appreciate being within walking distance to this Gem.

Barbara G.

Yelp
Our sever was friendly and my husband's beer was delicious. Inside seating was full so we went to the outdoor seating in the back. Our pizza was delicious, but when I went to the ladies' room (strange layout), my husband was standing up and told me to get the check and not return to the table. He saw several rats in the outdoor area. So if you go, go inside.

Yelp
Turtle Bay is a dive bar on Decatur Street between dive bars, shops, coffee, etc. Horace, Decatur has something for everyone. Oh and this dive bar is 24/7 with FOOD! We got a veggie pizza and it was good. I'm not a fan of thick crust ands that's why I took off one star. But when you're tipsy (or more) it sue does hit the spot,
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
This place has come through for me twice now when I really needed it! The prices are acceptable for 24 hour desperation food. I was able to find a table after the pride parade this year and last. Service kinda slow but not too bad. The food was really good! I recommend the swissroom burger and fried mushrooms. It's not just good for drunk food, it's genuinely good. Warning: they don't split checks for large parties, and the bathroom doors are often wide open lol. But you can close them if you need. Or you can leave it open for the "pee with company" option.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
Do not get the pizza It sucks Skip the pizza!!! Get the 20.00 ribeye It's fantastic Great atmosphere- Cold brews and funky clientele The bar could use a very deep clean but It is what it is
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Kind of a dive bar but with pretty good food and drink. We enjoyed a few different pizzas, the Supreme and Hawaiian. They have kind of a cracker crust, but the toppings were tasty. Service was about what you'd expect in a far. Nothing crazy special, but it was fine.

Jaelyn J. J.

Yelp
my experience was horrible, I wasn't properly greeted and our food took hours. my friend fell asleep waiting on the arrival of out food. which we would soon realize would never come. and our server / bartender never tried to acknowledge or pay attention to our needs. everyone around us was served and we orders hours before them. there is also no manager to take care of the issues at hand. it's like a backwards circus run by incompetent employees
google avatar

Lexi M.

Yelp
Great dive bar with great food and awesome service! We came here a couple times this trip because they had such good bar food. Their hurricanes aren't too bad either! They have an awesome courtyard space in the back which was really cool. You have to try the cheeseburger pizza. It's absolutely amazing!!!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Stopped in for a small bite last night and decided on Pizza (heard it was the best around). Went with a small (10") cheese to start and was blown away by how good it was (not to mention the speed in which it was served!!). The thin crust was so crispy (good thing) without being burnt and the flavor of everything was delicious. It was so good in fact that I ordered a large Hawaiian and devoured that one too! It was slow for what I thought New Orleans was all about, but the streets had life until past 3am. I sat in the lone high top table at the front window so I was able to enjoy the activity in the bar and see all the hustle and bustle outside. The service by the bartender and speed of the kitchen were amazing here. I'm not sure if it was because it was a slow night in New Orleans (didn't know that was possible) or if this is how good the service is all the time, but no matter what the case, I will be coming back here during my next trip, whether to try the pizza or something else off the menu.

Ed H.

Yelp
Had the Tuesday night special, filet mignon. Was cooked just right. Great beer selection. I'd definitely go back.

Dena K.

Yelp
Best wings... I tell everyone this is a must .. can't say nothing bad about this place...
google avatar

Yelp
I loved this place! Go for the steak. I mean it's no 5 star restaurant steak (although I'll be leaving 5 stars) but it's a REALLY good bar-food, salty, grilled steak if that's what you're in the mood for. You just can't beat that deal either. I ordered the 13 oz but wish I got the 20 because it is thin (not complaining, just letting you know if you're debating) I wish I could order it from FL lol! The garlic bread and potato it came with were also awesome. I also really enjoyed the service as well. The bartenders were really nice and checked in on us often. I will definitely come back here the next time I come to New Orleans! Ps. My boyfriend got the pizza. He's a big pizza guy and it wasn't his fav. Again, go for the steak! Lol

n o.

Yelp
Meh! Although we got our food incorrectly (my wife ordering: a bacon cheeseburger please. The order taker: "bacon cheese burger?". My wife: "yes". ). My wife walks to the restaurant, lady says she will check that order is correct and complete. My wife get back to hotel. No Bacon. People suck.

Yelp
Yum yum and yum!!! The food here was SO good!! Especially the pizza. Such a great and fun vibe. The food was so flavorful and the drinks were great too! Our bartender had great customer service!! You can tell she loves what she does. We will definitely come back here to dine when we're in town. I can't wait to come back and try their other pizzas and food. Bonus that they had steak!! My cousin was craving that and I'm so glad they had it. Thanks for being so great!!

Yelp
What I loved about the place was the service. The girls smiled (unlike most places) and provided us great service. We ordered pizza after a Haunted Pub Crawl (fun). When we got here, we got here late. Luckily they are opened 24 hours. We had Cheese, Sausage and Veggie pizza . All were delicious and the crust amazing. Bravo to the cooks at Turtle Bay for making a delicious pizza.

Pat F.

Yelp
Walked in and thought it was a traditional dive bar. Got in town late and wanted to relax and have a drink and some wings. The staff was just mingling with some locals and eating pizza. Saw there was a TouchTunes jukebox and decided to play some songs. The app said my songs were playing when I asked the staff, Josie one on the bartenders was playing her music from her phone which needles to say was not great. Service was poor and food mediocre. There are plenty of bars in New Orleans. Skip the turtle!

Shelby B.

Yelp
Food was good hard parking but thats anywhere in the quarters. Bartenders nice cool local spot
google avatar

Darcy F.

Yelp
Our server called this place a "Dive Bar with food", and that sums it up well except for the prices. We came for some late food and had some drinks along with it. Service was good for most of our visit. The good: the pizza here is incredible. I'd come back here just for the pizza. The wings were great too. The bad: the pulled pork nachos made me sad. Whatever it was on the nachos, it didn't taste or feel anything like pulled pork. The other ingredients seemed good, so maybe just stay away from the pulled pork version here. The ugly: our bill for two appetizers and a pizza, and a few gin and tonics was over $100. Dive bar drinks and food at super premium prices is not an ideal combination.

Yelp
Great food especially the pizza. Great spot to watch sports too. Typical dive bar with good food and drinks.
