The search is OVER. I have now found my FAVORITE Italian restaurant, and I'm overjoyed to say that it will now wash away any memory of that (recent) awful experience at Osteria La Buca. Ironically, we have dined at Rustico several times (Tuscany's sister restaurant a few miles north), and we enjoyed that quite a bit, but we had never tried Tuscany. My daughter dined here a number of times and loved it, so for my husband's further birthday celebration, we tried Tuscany this time.
Everything about this place was perfection. The restaurant, while appearing to be on the smallish side, is deceptively large with a number of different attractively decorated dining rooms, along with a bar and outdoor dining if weather permits. The wait staff (there were THREE assigned to our table at all times) was incredibly attentive, and we not only wanted for nothing, but we didn't have to ask for anything, either. They remained in the background but kept a watchful eye over their table to anticipate whatever our needs were. That hasn't been the case at most restaurants. Not even Rustico is THAT attentive! I was super impressed with this, but it just gets better!
The obvious main focus is on Tuscany's food preparation, and I'm happy to report that it was outstanding on every level. We dined on the following items:
Tableside Bread in a basket - every piece brushed with butter or olive oil (not sure), but it tastes buttery, yet it's not greasy at all. Some pieces even had tomato chunks on it. The bread is warm and delicious, and they'll bring more when they see the empty basket !
Florentine "Gnudi" with burnt butter and crispy sage - Ricotta and spinach dumplings served over tomato sauce and topped with Parmigiano-sage gratin. We got the appetizer size... just enough for us to have two each. Outstanding... with so many flavors dancing on my tongue. When I talk about food having flavor, THIS is what I'm talking about !! Delicious !!
Heirloom Tomato Salad with Creamy Burrata Cheese and Aged Modena Balsamic Vinegar - my daughter had this and raved about it. I did not try it.
Chopped Italian Antipasto Salad - finely chopped iceberg and romaine lettuces, tomato, provolone cheese, garbanzo beans, pepperoncini, sweet red onion tossed in a light balsamic vinaigrette. I had this, and while I would have preferred a bit more vinaigrette, it still was enough to flavor the salad, and it was fresh and delicious.
Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Balsamic Reduction, caramelized apple, pomegranate, pine nuts, cranberries and toasted seeds - I didn't want to try this. Not my kind of dish, but my husband ordered it.
Fresh King Salmon Fillet in Crispy Potato Pancake - Served with seasonal vegetables, lobster, and roasted garlic sauce. My daughter ordered this and thoroughly enjoyed it. I tried this dish, and the salmon was perfectly prepared. Lovely vegetables.
Fresh Seafood Casserole "Mare Nostrum" - colossal shrimp, lobster, king crab legs, salmon, mussels, clams, calamari, and scallops - Cioppino style. My husband ordered this and loved it.
Wild Caught Hawaiian Ono Fillet Pan-Seared in chardonnay-chervil sauce, scalloped potatoes, spinach, and asparagus. I ordered this, and I had never tried Hawaiian Ono before. While it tasted delicious, I was not a fan of the fish texture. It was strange, but that's the fish and just a personal preference. I definitely loved the spinach and asparagus.... both were beautifully seasoned and texturally perfect. The star of this show was the scalloped potatoes. The BEST I've ever had, and I would have preferred more of them, as the serving size was on the smallish side.
Sicilian Cannoli - made with whipped ricotta, orange and lemon zest, cinnamon and honey in a flaky shell. There were two cannoli, and my daughter and I had one each. It was, BY FAR, THE BEST cannoli I have ever eaten, and I'm quite sorry I shared with my daughter, and at that, I let my husband have a bite of mine. The shell was so light and flaky like none I've ever tasted, and the ricotta filling had such a wonderful orange flavor throughout. I'm still dreaming about this because it was a magnificent end to a fabulous meal. (By the way, they have a dessert tray that they bring to each table. One is hard-pressed to refrain from ordering because ALL their desserts look amazing.)
Tiramisu - our waiter knew it was my husband's birthday, so he brought him a slice of tiramisu with a candle in it. That was so nice of him. Tiramisu is mostly whipped cream, not my favorite dessert, but this was nicely prepared.
It wasn't too heavy.
This is definitely the best in a long line of Italian restaurants.... restaurants period, and it's definitely a "special occasion" kind of place. In fact, we already made a reservation for our wedding anniversary next month... and I have a milestone birthday coming up, as well, lol. Let's see what we plan for that. Anyway, try this place. You won't be sorry !! It's THAT good.
