We went to Angel's Envy manhattan night at Lucca last night. We went with our friends, double date night. The four of us started with cocktails, I had the Luccacello, which is a beautifully presented limoncello martini, my girlfriend had a French martini and the guys had the Angel's Envy Manhattan.
The four of us shared two starters, the grilled calamari and the beef carpaccio. The grilled calamari was served on a bed of farro and was perfectly grilled. I wish it had four pieces of calamari instead of three so it was easily split, or at least the server informing us there's three pieces and asking if we'd like to add another for a little upcharge. The carpaccio was disappointing to me, though, because they changed the perfection. I loved the previous way it was served with cannellini beans, arugula and parmesan. The newly vamped one was served with mushrooms, just an odd pairing with the rare beef. Lucca missed the mark on this one for me.
For dinner, I had the spaghetti carbonara which is always a hit. My husband had the pork chop, which was full of flavor and delicious, my girlfriend had the pink grouper and her fiancé had the veal dish. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed their entrées. No dessert for us since we were so full, but our waiter brought over complimentary shots of housemade orangecello.
We bought a bottle of Angel's Envy bourbon and they personalized it just for my husband. Fun night! You don't need a special event to dine at Lucca, though. It's one of my favorite Italian restaurants and we dine there often. The food is very good and service is spot on.
