For one of the best dining experiences in the area I highly recommend Tuscany in West Brick, NJ on Rt 88.
The inside is reminiscent of a rustic country inn with a roaring fireplace in the main dining room, cozy booths in the bar area and a side room for about 25 off to the side. I remarked that as crowded as the restaurant was the noise level was surprisingly and happily subdued.
This past Saturday four of us had reservations which were promptly honored. this is my second visit there, oddly enough as I write the old review from 2022 came up. Happily, none of the dinners were overwhelmed by garlic.
The calamari appetizer was plentiful, but I thought a little undercooked. The sausage and broccoli rabe appetizer, a good portion with 4 decent sized pieces of delicious Italian sweet sausage with the seasoned chopped up broccoli on top and underneath a portion of polenta. Their polenta is soft almost gelatinous with corn kernels inside, very tasty.
One diner ordered the pork chop, a thick well-cooked portion, fresh rated cheese on top, cooked apple slices and a rich gravy. Another diner had the farfalle with cherry tomatoes, alia olio and lots of parmigiano grated by the helpful, attentive but not hovering, waitress. The third diner ordered the Ahi tuna. This was cooked perfectly, seared on the outside and plenty of red on the inside. This was served with a medley of cooked peppers and other vegetables with a piquant tapenade and three baked potatoes. A visual as a well as a culinary delight. My dinner was a house specialty, Veal Stemperata, a hearty portion of chunks of veal cooked to tenderness, with kalamata olives, capers, white raisins and pine nuts. With a healthy potion of the wonderful polenta underneath.
Worth many trips back to try much of the rest of the menu.
