Nice property that the owners can still save if they put more maintenance into it, but there are problems--particularly in the suites.
This was my third stay here, for an annual event held here. The rooms are spacious, with comfortable furnishings. Beds are nice, and for the most part the rooms are clean.
But there are problems. This year, our room featured:
* Significantly leaking windows that did not close or seal properly (with record-breaking heat outside leaking in)
* Floor sagging enough that the dresser drawers rolled open via gravity until i shimmed the front feet with a spare towel
* Intermittent thermostat buttons that often needed to be mashed multiple times to do anything
* Leaking toilet (tank into bowl)
* Bathroom sink was slow to drain
Every year so far:
* Two-prong towel holder in the bathroom near the shower seems incapable of holding towels
* Elevators on the verge of failure
Let's talk more about those elevators. First year, i had to manually help push the doors closed for the elevator to move to a different floor--over and over. I reported the issue early in my week-long stay, and as of check-out, nothing had been done. They refused to refund any or all of the resort fee, which someone told me was supposed to cover things like this.
This year was the worst so far. The elevator in our building jerked abruptly when it started and stopped, and seemed to have trouble lining itself up with the floor on each floor we used. Often it did the same thing with the doors as my first year, but this year manual assistance did not help (this was a different building and elevator than the first year). One evening during our stay the elevator flat-out *broke*--not good for an event with many attendees using mobility scooters and related aids. That's when i discovered this...
Pro Tip: if you're "able"-bodied, use the stairs. There's a warning that an alarm will go off at the bottom, but i saw workers going in and out with no problem and tried it myself, and no alarm. There is a key pad on the outside door for the stairs which accepts the same key cards as the main building doors, so it is possible to enter that way and walk up to your floor and avoid the scary and possibly dangerous elevators.
If you cannot use stairs for whatever reason, insist on a ground (first) floor room. If you have friends/family/business associates/whomever where you're going to meet in someone's room, have people meet in ground floor rooms only.
Then there's the staff. Many are excellent; some are opposite. One casino security guard kept hassling my Love when we passed through, in what seemed like some badly misguided joking or flirting. Totally inappropriate!
We had our Do Not Disturb sign out the whole time. Despite that, one morning someone knocked then not even a second later *opened the door and came barging in the room*.
Worst was the night manager the two nights we tried to report issues, who didn't give a flute. First night we complained about the elevator in our building and were all but blown off, told that we could come back in the morning and _maybe_ get a different room on the ground floor (and go through the hassle of moving rooms). Next night the elevator *in the main building* seemed broken and we reported it. Ms. Zerina Gambin (or something close to that) told us that the elevator was turned off for the night--during an event just wrapping up!--and that this was "normal". We knew from prior years it was NOT normal, and someone flaked up. Again, she didn't give a flute. Tuscany upper management: please retrain and supervise this person, or let her go. She is an anomaly that reflects badly upon your establishment. Same for that one security guard.
I do not understand why when every budget motel we've stayed in this past year is able to have a microwave oven in each room, but the Tuscany requires requesting one... and waiting... and often having to request again. Then, when the beaten-up device is delivered, some assembly is required of the little wheels on the tray spider, and the glass tray does not fit the spider, because one or both are incorrect for that particular oven model. And the power cord's hanging loose out the back.
The public amenities are generally nice, as is the pool. Neither myself nor my Love have used the casino. Restaurants are OK yet pricey.
The Tuscany Suites could again be a really nice place, if owners/management will get the needed repairs done--particularly the elevators in all buildings--and better supervise/review the performance of a few outlier employees who really should be in some other job somewhere else. It's very convenient when attending our annual event to stay there, but given the hassles and grief we went through this year, not sure it's worth going through again.
