On the Grid : Tutti Matti

"Always making Toronto’s top restaurants Tutti Matti, is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city (though we think it’s the best). Not known by tourists, Tutti Matti is a slice of Italy in the heart of the Entertainment District. Chef Adlia Solomon is a force to be reckoned with. This award winning chef has made her mark on Italian cuisine through the care and dedication in the food she makes. Once seated in the chic atmosphere, you might just see NHL or NBA players satisfying themselves on some of Alida’s homemade noodles, or sipping on fine Italian wine." - Jam3

Visited during their yearly anniversary and tried their fall menu. I found the burrata, to be quite delicious and flavourful. We requested it to be served with their pizza bread, which paired nicely and was quite filling. Unfortunately, the entrées were disappointing, especially their rabbit dish (coniglio fritto). The protein obviously caught our attention, but it was a dish that was poorly conceived. It was simply deep-fried on the bone with only a pickled garnish on the side. It was difficult to eat, and I was surprised the waiter didn’t offer a heads-up about its shortcomings. The pasta that I ordered (pinci) was also unremarkable. I do appreciate though that this restaurant has a lot of history and is family-run.

What started out well with exceptional toasted bread slices and probably the best pizza I have ever had was quickly ruined by the very rude and horrible waitress and the complete inept preparation and presentation of the their Bisteca a Fiorentina. I am still furious over a day later as I write this. I have never written a bad review of any restaurant ever but feel compelled to warn off others from duplicating my error in judgment. Easy - just DO NOT order the steak. It was more rare than sashimi. Was supposed to be medium rare. Can’t send it back for more cooking because they sliced it into tiny little slivers. Then Chef Alida decided to put a mountain of cold arugula on top. Great idea. Who likes hot steak anyways. Fortunately my inedible steak was only $150 out the window. Our server - whom I felt was very rude right from the beginning and got only worse as the evening progressed suggested that the chef could easily remedy the situation by further cooking the steak. What ? How? It’s cut into 50 thin slices. Oh and had no seasoning at all. If she served this steak to Gordon Ramsay he would have surely blown his top. Had I been there alone I would have too. But I kept it together to try as to not embarrass my daughter who was with me. So I just paid the bill, asked the waitress to thank the chef for the sashimi and got the hell outta there. Never to return. I had only wished I had paid with my Visa card and not my debit card so I could dispute the transaction as “item not as described”. Stay away from this restaurant run by an arrogant chief who cannot cook properly and who has not changed the menu is 20 years.

One of our favourite restaurants in Toronto! We did a wedding there! But unlike during hosting the wedding, we finally got a chance to taste the food! And it was awesome! FOOD From the appetizers, zucchini flowers and porchetta to the main pastas and fish, to dessert, this place was great! The flavours come together seamlessly and balance each other out. I particularly enjoyed the fish, tender and tasteful so that you can taste both the fish and the sauce. Chef Alida is the best. Also, they have some real Italian Amaro—just ask for it! SERVICE The service is great here and the atmosphere is very much of a Tuscan table. You will likely have chef come by to say hi and ask how you are liking the food! ATMO This place is reminiscent of Tuscany with warm and earthy tones. You will see the herbs and the fire as well. Rustic, but very warm and welcoming.

I had a lovely time here, and it felt like a very warm environment with the staff. The chef is in and out of the open kitchen greeting and interacting with guests and taking orders. The interior is airy and bright. We had their Summerlicious dinner menu. Their portions are quite generous, and you'd be pretty satisfied by the end of the meal. The burrata was soft and melts in your mouth. The tomatoes and basil are a classic pairing. Good seasoning and oil drizzled over. There's nothing to hide behind here and it's just good ingredients handled with respect and care that make a good dish. The pork chop was quite reminiscent of a Japanese deep-fried pork cutlet tonkatsu. The breading was crunchy and well-seasoned. It's a pretty hefty portion of meat. The pork was cooked well and not dry. I love smashed potatoes and was happy to see those underneath along with some roasted garlic which did impart a nice garlicky flavour to the potatoes. The gravy was a nice accompaniment to the pork. It had a somewhat sweet and sour taste that brought a lot of brightness to the dish. I had the crostata for dessert. The apricot tart was about room temp. I liked the texture and taste. I also loved the dollop of creme anglaise on top to add some creaminess and a bit of light sweetness.

Google
Summary: disappointing service and food for the price point. They tried to make up for the poor service with sides and dessert, but we would have preferred comping some of our meal. Perhaps the first red flag was the door being so jammed to the point we thought it was locked. Despite us clearly struggling to enter the restaurant, no one came to help us open the door or noticed until several moments later, after we checked for a possible back entrance and eventually called the restaurant. We walked in as a group of 5 and were seated in the very back where the AC vent was leaking directly onto the table, seat, and placemat, despite there being other tables available. The service staff did not notice and we moved ourselves to the other side of the table and asked for a new placemat. We ordered one appetizer (focaccia) and three main dishes (Lolo pizza, Pappardelle, and Fregola). We waited thirty minutes for our appetizer and then sat waiting for another hour after that. We had to regularly check in with our servers to ask for water and check on our food, as they were not attentive. When our main dishes were served, they came out one at a time which made it difficult to enjoy the meal together. For context, we were seated around 8:15 pm; our last dish was served at 9:40pm. As an apology for the long wait, they presented us with two sides (the beans and kale, and potato salad). The white beans and kale had chunks of salt that overpowered the dish, while the potato salad was bland. The main dishes were also underwhelming for the price. The most memorable of the three was the Fregola, which had an interesting smoky flavor paired with the lightness of the green onions. We were informed that the whole menu was family style, but overall the portion sizes were so small that it made it difficult to share sufficiently. After our meal, we asked for the check and were presented with two tiramisus as a gift for the poor service. The tiramisus were delicious and appreciated, but it was past 10pm at this point and we agreed we would have preferred the restaurant comping some of our meal as we were tired and ready to leave. For the price, we would have hoped at minimum for solidly good food and good service, but was sorely disappointed. We will not be returning.

Simple yet elevated Tuscan dishes. Thank you Chef Solomon! The short rib was superb. The fresh sourdough bread with almond onion spread was amazing. The buratta & fried zucchini flower with ricotta was light! Looking forward to returning. Vik

We’ve had such a lovely night. Loved every single dish we had. The lady who helped our table is very friendly and professional, recommended a great bottle of wine to go with our food with reasonable price.

Google
This restaurant was recommended by my friend. When I visited this place with my family, seating arrangements were made quickly. And both the friendly service and the food satisfied us. Although the pasta noodles were a little unfamiliar, I thought it would be nice to learn them a little more. Still, it was a delicious and enjoyable meal.

Yelp
Went here for lunch, cute on the inside, cozy, and a great sized menu. Delish bread and spread and the service was attentive and felt truly like he was teleported from Italy. Pasta was butter city ... which was jarring but it was divine. Would go back - pretty expensive I'd say - and be ready to unbuckle your belt!

Yelp
The eggplant meatballs were the highlight here for me unfortunately. We had a lamb ragú as well which was just average. I did however love the aperol spritz, this might be an apps and drinks kind of place and I have no qualms with that as I did enjoy the service and the general ambiance of the place.

Yelp
An incredible experience, excellent food, caring and knowledgeable service and the owner chef takes time to greet you. Your not rushed, or bothered you can eat, drink and talk

Yelp
Good quality, well-presented food (except for burned pizza!). Price is on the higher end, especially for drinks. Non-alcoholic mocktails priced the same as alcoholic cocktails! Recommend getting food to go & purchasing your own drinks.

Yelp
It was rated on Google as 4.8/5 stars, so I went in with quite high expectations. There were a few things I liked and did not like at this location and overall, that would give it a mediocre rating for Italian food Some things I did like included the very friendly staff and the accommodating service. It was easy to make a reservation on short notice. The pizza is made in some oven and is a good consistency with a good baked flavour. I found that all the pizzas that they offered were a little bit on the basic side, but the ingredients made it really tasty. The duck Ragu was also very generous in the amount of meat that was provided. Pasta was all cooked al dente, and was an excellent texture. The Ragu had a nice flavour profile with wine, however, the meat was not very tender was a bit try. It was more of a shredded consistency. Things I do not like included that the restaurant is closing quite early around 930 on a Saturday night, so do not expect to spend a lot of time here if you are trying to go on a date. The price was also pretty high, given the dining experience and the food quality. The drinks were a little bit mediocre, and many people I feel like would not want to order a second drink

Yelp
This place is pricey for what it is, I think, just my opinion, not hard facts!! Our group got the charcuterie board to start, and it was just okay - for $36 CAD! My margherita pizza barely had any basil and it was $22 CAD, which was disappointing because even in DC, a really large high-quality margarita is $24 USD (slightly pricier, but bigger and better). The server and wait staff were kind and attentive, which made the experience of the meal real nice. My ratings are heavily weighted toward food and value, so this just wasn't the place for me. Why did I come? Someone else picked it and I wanted to go with the flow and make it easy on people - planning is hard!! I enjoyed the company and service, but for an international trip, I felt a little sad about the quality... if only Chinatown was a little bit closer (to the convention center)!

Yelp
This Tuscan Italian resto has been around forever (forever = 20 years lol) and it's quite good. I enjoyed the braised brisket pappardelle pasta and husband loved the bone-in pork chop. The ambience is okay. I didn't love the large exposed garbage can next to the bar, directly in my field of vision. What's that about? I also prefer traditional martini glasses over stemless. Next time I'd probably skip the cocktail altogether. But I suppose the latter are minor quibbles. Something we really enjoyed was the wine that was suggested by the server. We asked for a low intervention red (natural / organic) and absolutely loved the bottle she suggested. A nice experience overall.

Yelp
Second time visit, not as good pasta as the fist time. The flavor was too mild, while the first time I came the homemade pasta has a good balance of "Al Dente" with light yet flavorful sauce. This time it's a bit below expectation. Fish is really good! Highly recommend. The service wasn't though, they seem pretty unpleasant for us being there waiting for another person and constantly come checking. Hinted us to leave when we finish- there wasn't even people waiting. Not great service experience.

Yelp
This is a Toronto "must" if you ask us. The food was authentic Toscana and the atmosphere perfect. We ate the braised short rib and some of the pastas - all of which were flavorful! The staff and owner all interacted with us and were simply delightful.

Yelp
We had a nice patio dinner here and enjoyed Italian cuisine. There's a main patio area that's in an alleyway next to the restaurant and then 2 small tables in front of the restaurant next to Adelaide St W. We sat next to the road and it wasn't as bad as we expected for the cars going past us. Food came out very quick and was hot when it arrived (tho it cooled down due to the wind outside). The pappardelle was very good, you can tell the pasta was very fresh and the braised beef ragu was also tasty. Pizza was also very good but we hoped for a little bit more toppings as we could only taste the olives. Overall a nice restaurant with good food and service.

Yelp
Was able to find a table easily via their online reservation system. Service was excellent (the owner and servers checked on us regularly) and they had a nice patio area set up in the alleyway next to the restaurant. However, the food was hit and miss. Perhaps the kitchen staff needs to get back into the groove of things. By the end of the meal we were all full but not satisfied. For the price we expected much more. Unsure if I'll come back. Here's what we had: * Polpetta Finti - absolutely delicious! I could have just had this for dinner and would have been completely happy. * Porchetta Crostone - also very delicious! They flavours and textures were great! * Pappardelle (braised brisket) - the pasta was cooked perfectly but the dish itself was bland. If was difficult to even taste what the brisket was supposed be. Also we found the sauce very thin and runny. Not sure if that's what the chef was going for. * Costole di Manzo (braised short rib, dark beer, honey, orange, rosemary) - unfortunately another bland dish. You could barely taste any of the dark beer, orange or rosemary. You could however? taste the honey as the dish itself was quite sweet. * Alto Adige Pizza - nice pizza and the taleggio was flavourful. * Porchetta Pizza - another one of the tables favourites. Very tasty. Had we only ordered appetizers and this pizza, and we would have been happy. * Mascarpone Crema Pavlova and Ontario Berries - the berries were nice and the meringue was good, if you like very sweet meringue.

Yelp
Liked my server, who was a friend of the owner and popped in to help for the night. He was funny and quite knowledgeable of the food, but unfortunately not so much of the drinks. I asked for a French 75, which is widely considered as a classic, simple, easy-to-make cocktail, but in turn, received a drink that did not taste anything like French 75. That was a waste of money. Enjoyed the short ribs, but personally I have had better short ribs at other restaurants in Toronto downtown within walking distance. One thing that I did like about the restaurant was the ambience: upbeat, vibrant, relatively upscale but still cozy.

Alex P.

Yelp
Service here was amazing! Sat outside in the alley way with some friends. The waitress went out of her way to confirm multiple requests with the chef to accommodate my digestion sensitivities. They usually do not have gluten free pasta, but luckily for me, the chef had said they got 1 box in & were willing to give it to me! I ate the Pappardelle w/ beef brisket, but obviously it wasn't pappardelle pasta, seeing as I requested the GF. The chef even personally came to our table to ask if I would be ok with my pasta being boiled in the same water as other pastas! Very thoughtful. The pasta itself tasted delicious! My bf finished his meal & started munching off mine too.

Yelp
One would think being the only paying diners at the restaurant on a Friday evening would garner better service, but that was the exact opposite. The staff was preoccupied with a staff meeting during the restaurant opening hours; albeit, we were there at 5:30pm for dinner, but one would think a staff meeting would be held during the hours when the restaurant was closed. Our server was scarce, and the only (and I'm using this generously) service we got was who appears to be the owner who was preoccupied with changing the halogen bulb over the bar and updating something on the computer. May be my experience was an anomaly, but I will find it difficult to return on my own volition. The food portion was definitely on the lean side, but I completely understand why some restaurants choose to do this, but the display or presentation was lacking; however, the food was above average. Unfortunately, the terrible service took away from the overall experience. Did I mention that our server was difficult to locate and was eventually found to be in a staff meeting? I really didn't appreciate having to walk over to the "owner" to request the bill. Then I had to walk over to request the charge card machine. This is completely unacceptable! [ As an aside, maybe this was why there was a 1,000 point giveaway via OpenTable for this restaurant. I got what I paid for I guess :( ]

Yelp
I needed somewhere to take my mom on short notice. Tutti Matti had an available reservation and I remembered enjoying it the last time I was there several years ago. I can't say how the food is. We waited at the front of the restaurant for 10-15 minutes, barely acknowledged by any of the waitstaff, until we decided to leave. I will never come back. It's very easy to show hospitality by greeting guests promptly and showing them to a table. Nobody bothered to take the 1 or 2 minutes needed to do this.
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
I came here for summerlicious dinner on a Friday and got a really nice table in front of the open window. The ambiance of the restaurant is more upscale casual, but the food did not exactly reflect that. Starting with the chicken pate which was average, then we got the steak and the pork chops, both of which were also average. We were not asked how we wanted our steaks cooked which was odd, and they came out cut in strips with each strip cooked a different temperature. The vegetables that came with the steak were cooked in some kind of vinaigrette and it all just tasted very sour. For dessert we all chose the panna cotta which I kind of enjoyed, but was in a very tiny jar. Aside from that we shared the prochetta appetizer from the main menu which tasted like a deconstructed pork banh mi. I would not come back here to eat from the regular menu as the prices really aren't justifiable.
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Enjoyed a meal with friends here, some of us took in the Summerlicious menu some didn't. It was nice to see that the quality and portion sizes between menus were negligible. Food overall was good, Service could have been better. The server was not engaging with us, but doing the minimum necessary to serve us. We felt at times we were a burden. Plates were felt "thrown" at us. The only recommendation I can make to the owner is this: Desserts served in small servings need appropriately sized cutlery. Using a dinner spoon on the budino actually taints the experience. The cafe spoons are better to use, if you don't want to get a third line of cutlery. They have been open since 2002 and I think I will be back. Overall, the food made it worth it.

Yelp
Although a mom and pop Italian restaurant, the restaurant had a trendy and ambient atmosphere. The food was amazing and we easily got an Opentable reservation 2 hours prior. The food was delicious and service was good! We started off with the sourdough bread and burrata and there was more than enough for two. The bread was so warm and served as a great base for the creamy and rich burrata. For the entrees, we got the brisket pappardelle and the tortellini with mushroom and ricotta. The brisket was my favorite and the pasta was al dente and really helped absorb the flavor of the brisket. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu which melted in my mouth and wasn't too sweet.

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
Decided to come here on a short nice for dinner. Had an overall good review so took a chance with it but definitely won't be back. Three of us seated at an outdoor table we were barely greeted by the owner herself who was waiting tables. The menu posted on the website is significantly different from what is actually available. We all ordered cocktails and had 2 pastas and a pizza which were delicious but service went downhill when it came time to pay. When the owner came over to ask if we wanted dessert and we kindly obliged for now she left with a dissatisfied face and came back with one bill and the debit machine already. When we asked to split the bill she said "they can't do it from their machine" and that we should "calculate it ourselves". I've never gone to a restaurant where I wasn't notified in advance that split bills weren't accepted or that a 20% (!!!) gratuity would be added automatically for a party of 3. I would've happily paid the 20% if I had a above average experience but unfortunately this was less than mediocre. When I asked if there was a seating limit they insisted there wasn't but it seemed they wanted to rush us out to have another empty table to add to the other 2. Overall: the food is delicious but service will prevent me from returning.

Yelp
Came here for winterlicious lunch and the service was great. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went around noon, however, filled up by the time we left around 1pm. I ordered the radish and pear puree soup, sausage and mushroom pasta, and the chocolate caramel pudding. - Radish and pear puree soup 5/5: the soup was a generous portion. The sweetness of the pear went well with the radish, since the radish can easily taste too "root-like" - Sausage and mushroom pasta 3.5/5: the pasta itself was chewy and I really enjoyed the texture. However, the flavours from the sausage and mushroom toppings was a bit underwhelming. - Chocolate caramel pudding: 6/5: definitely the highlight of the meal - the caramel on the chocolate pudding was still liquid with every scoop, dripping off your spoon with every bite. It was only after when we left and realized the restaurant had a regular prix-fixe menu offer at $20 (vs the $23 winterlicious lunch option). Maybe it's a calling to come again to try it out.

Yelp
Very nice ambience and the service was great! We tried the deep fried flower and surprisingly it was great as well I recommend the Margherita pizza I don't know why but it was the best out of what we got It was also my dads birthday and they were very nice about that to! Thanks

Yelp
I keep saying "Tutti Matti" like if I'm an especially terrible Super Mario impersonator. I know about Italian food like I know about cars. I don't know anything about cars. So this is mostly a review from someone with tastebuds, as opposed to someone who is an expert on Italian foodstuffs. I've waffled on the rating for a while now. But based on some fantastic service, and food that was mostly enjoyable, a very low [*][*][*][*] seems reasonable. The first dish was easily the highlight of the meal. I can't remember what it's called, but it was like an open-faced sandwich thingie. It was rich, flavorful, and and had me excited about the rest of the meal. Sadly, everything else was just... Okay. The "Costole di Manzo" (short ribs) were really tender. It could have even been the most excellent part of my meal, except it was missing the most obvious of seasonings: Salt. As a result, it had an orangey sweetness to it that was almost cloying. The dessert was gelato of some sort. I gave it to one of my dinner-mates to finish. The portions are... not necessarily miniscule, but they're also on the edge of being not entirely filling. Was the meal worth the price? Meh... Maybe. I think the excellent service carried our group through the night. Our waiter was knowledgeable, and helpful. He was chatty enough to make us feel comfortable without hovering or being phony. And he had a distinctive Italian accent that was a lot of fun to listen to. The food was decent, albeit overpriced for the offerings. In fact, if the whole meal had been like... $10 cheaper, the experience would have been better. Now I'm thinking that [*][*][*] is more appropriate. Maybe I'll change my mind again before I actually post the review... Go for lunch (or when they have a prix fixe menu available), and maybe you'll leave more satisfied than me. At approximately $50+ a person though, I expected a little more. Random: Facebook tells me that people who like Tutti Matti's Facebook page tend to also like Snooki's page.

Yelp
If I could give it 10 stars I would. Possibly the best Italian food I have ever tasted, including what I've eaten in Italy. There were six of us and the owner chef had graciously agreed to serve us a tasting menu of her choice. It was spectacular. It consisted of six or seven courses, depending on how you count, and the flavors of each course built to the crescendo of the deeply delicious back ribs and pulled pork style dish on a delicious bed of home made pasta. Chef please forgive my crude description of the last course as back ribs and pulled pork, it was a much more complex finale than that rustic description. Here's the food list: Tempura battered zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and served with pattypan squash also tempura battered. Shaved zucchini and burrata cheese with heirloom tomatoes. Home made egg pasta with wild boar ragu. The back ribs and pulled pork also on a home made pasta. Then a delicious desert board which we all swore we couldn't eat cause we were so full ... However by the time we left it appeared to have been vacuumed. Our waitress was the delightful charming and very beautiful Kelly. A spectacular dinner from an amazing chef. Food Channel here she comes.

Yelp
I have eaten here a lot in the past few months! The pasta dishes are delicious. The bolognese is my favorite with the braised brisket a close second. The pizza dough and the pizzas are fantastic. Risotto with squash is amazing. The Chef is wonderful and her staff strives to take care of the customers. I will truly miss this place when I have to leave Toronto.

Yelp
Very happy to find such delicious and expertly prepared Tuscan food in this area. Quite a contrast with the strip of touristy and generic Italian American restaurants just around the corner. The suckling pig appetizer was delicious and a good size to split between two. Short ribs managed to be both tender and juicy inside and hard baked on the outside, I particularly liked the creamed parsnips it came with. The cacciucco (seafood stew) is served in an individual sized Le Creuset casserole and was also excellent, with a light broth and plenty of delicious lobster, clams, mussels, etc. A bit pricy for an every day place for us, but a good range of wines by the glass helps to keep the price down, and definitely a place to come back to regularly. My only problem in a restaurant like this is working out what to order, as I would probably enjoy every dish on the menu.

Yelp
Since it's recommended by Toronto Life, therefore wanted to give it a shot for my friend's birthday! I was underwhelmed with what's on the menu & the taste of it ! Not sure if I would return
google avatar

Angie L.

Yelp
It's a little on the pricey side, but we loved the food and received friendly, prompt & attentive service. Group of 9 and everyone throughly enjoyed their orders (we got dishes across the board on the menu). Fantastic pasta dishes and short ribs, those were highlights for me. Pasta very fresh, cooked to perfection and meat dishes were full flavoured. Loved my anchovy appetizer as well! Fair warning that the appetizers are pretty tiny, non - sharable portions and pretty pricey (about $18 each). Mains were moderately sized for the price though. Overall I'd recommend the restaurant for its ambiance, unique and delish food, and great service received!

Yelp
In doing some research prior to coming here, I noticed that this place is only open from 6-10:30 Monday-Saturday, which I found a little odd. I got there at 6 and so the place was empty, a few minutes later another couple came in but we were the only 2 couples in there. There were a bunch of reserved tables but nobody else came while we were there. There are more tables in this restaurant than I expected (looks small from the outside) and they have a nice front part where the doors can open up and let a nice breeze through the place. I wasn't sure what Tuscan cuisine was (I thought Italian was Italian), so I was looking for a nice place of pasta and tomato sauce. Turns out they don't have that there. Tuscan cuisine is more stews and sauces that have nothing to do with alfredo or tomato sauce. I was mildly disappointed but it turns out I thoroughly enjoyed this place anyways. My wife had the antipasti special with some random stuff on it but it was really good. There was some cheese that you eat with tomatoes and basil (like bocconoci or however you spell it) but it was much more flavourful. I had the carpaccio drizzled with olive oil and some leafy greens. Very good. For dinner it was also very good. We both had a pasta dish, my wife with had some tortelli stuffed with cheese and asparagus in a butter sage sauce, and I had some pasta with beef brisket. The noodles were home made and man were they delicious. They don't taste like anything you get out of the grocery store. For desert my wife had this banana gelato with a lava cake and some bananas creme bruleed. Again, really good. Of course, the only complaint I have about this place is that I think it is a tad expensive and maybe the portions could be a little bigger. But all the foods I believe taste this good with this kind of quality and flavour cost about this much, so maybe I should stop complaining about it because I'm not going to find cheaper. I appreciate the fact that the place uses in season local ingredients to make their foods. I had no problem with the service as well. The guy was very polite, attentive and made you felt appreciated that you were there. If people want to try some not so stereotypical Italian food, give this place a try.

Yelp
Meh. This place is pretty good, but not on the value scale. The entrees were pretty solid, but our appetizer was pathetic. $18 for a tablespoon of pate? Poor form. And when we shared our feedback, we were clearly told that this wasn't the first time they'd heard such comments, and yet nothing has changed - for me or the general portion size. They only offered a defense of how special it is. This ain't my first pate rodeo. The portion size is absurdly small. And when faced with a dissatisfied customer, it goes a long way to attempt to make it right - but they didn't. All in all, I'm not opposed to Tutti Matti, but hope they become more customer centric and responsive to feedback to improve their 3 star rating from me and overall 3.5/5 star rating for the masses. It would've led to a willingness to try more courses, extend our evening and spend more money.

Yelp
Dining Experience: Lunch Specialty: Italian Tuscan cuisine Menu items: Fagottini, Duck Pappardelle & Warm Bacio and Banana Lava Cake I'm matti about Tutti Matti and everybody's crazy about it too. A cute and somewhat hidden Tuscan inspired restaurant located in the Fashion district, has created a name for itself by offering some unique and exquisite Tuscan dishes. In addition to having a rather unique name, that as you may have already caught onto translates to English as "Everybody's Crazy", it welcomes the downtown crowds with fresh home-made pastas, breads and daily dessert menus that will make you go matti. Fagottini is the dish we decided on to kick-off our work week lunch. Traditionally, Fagottini is an Italian pasta shaped in squares and filled with vegetables, steamed carrots, green beans, ricotta, onion and olive oil. However, Tutti Matti decided to spin this tradition by making a phyllo style pastry using chickpea flower and stuffing it with apples, pears, leeks, three kinds of cheese, hazelnuts, radicchio and truffle honey. Although Tutti Matti deviated from the traditional way of making Fagottini, they did stick to the region's use of truffles making this dish a delicacy and a must. Tuscany is know for growing unique truffles that are used in most pasta and risotto dishes. Skipping primi and going straight into secondi, we ventured off with the Duck Pappardelle. Pappardelle is a flat homemade noodle that is often served with rich sauces such as hare, wild boar or duck and can be found on most menus in the Tuscan region. The Duck Pappardelle was a daily special that we just had to try and it did not disappoint. The fact that Tutti Matti makes its pasta right on the premises speaks volumes, not only of the restaurant, but also of the taste of the pasta itself. It was fresh, eggy, full of taste and al dente, just how I like my pasta. The rest were just toppings. Ok, the duck was good too, but I am sticking to the noodles on this review. My absolute favourite. My dolci does not need an intro. All I have to say its that you have to try Tutti Matti's daily dessert offerings. I had their warm Bacio Chocolate and Banana Lava Cake, topped with glazed bananas and accompanied by a home-made banana ice-cream. The perfect way to end my meal. And if that was not enough, a spoon into the cake had me drooling yet again. The interior was not only soft, warm and sweet, but it also had little pieces of banana that made it ooey-gooey delicious. Until next time Foodies! Buen Provecho, Viviana.

Yelp
Escape the insanity of these times and get some delicious food to go. Tutti Matti offered a storefront this weekend with take-out sandwiches and a farm-fresh market. We tried the pulled pork and the mortadella sandwiches. The bread is wonderful. The sandwiches huge and delicious. I loaded up with other great foods to go. Perfect Ontario strawberries, zucchini, eggs, herbs and a couple of basil plants. It's great to support independent local businesses. Win, win. They'll be open again this weekend.

Yelp
I've passed this place for years but had foolishly assumed that it was expensive and unfriendly (there always seemed to be suit guys in the window whenever I went by) - not so! We decided to check it out - we made reservations, and after a brutal day at work, I was in need of some soothing. Opening the door, I was suddenly enveloped by warmth, wonderful smells and great music. This was a good start! The bartender was super friendly and helpful, and the rest of the staff were great! Our server recommended a great white wine (something to do with green, can't recall it right now) and we were off! You HAVE to order the Brussel sprouts! I'm still dreaming about them - they were PERFECT! Not just boiled, but sautéed in some yummy deliciousness (technical cooking terms)! I had the fennel sausage with white beans, it was good. My dining companion had the pizza Margherita - it was great! I had no idea this place was so warm and friendly! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
I came here for a birthday dinner (my birthday), and it was the perfect place. With relatively short notice, we were able to get a cozy little table for two at 8:30 on a Friday. Perfect! And yet, the place was certainly packed and buzzing with happy people. The food? YUM. Warm bread started things off, which we dipped in quality olive oil and balsamic. Burrata followed and it came with apple, pear, chestnut, and rosemary. It was a light and bright starter that still felt winter appropriate. Next, we shared the paccheri primi pasta dish with octopus, cannellini beans, pork fennel salami, tomato saffron broth. Quite al dente, but a beautiful dish. The octopus was cooked perfectly, and then costole di manzo AKA short ribs, beer, oranges, rosemary, beets and the beet greens. This was the absolute standout for me. The meat fell off the bone and I loved the multiple beet uses. *****

Yelp
I wanted to really like this place, having lived in the heart of Tuscany for many, many years. Indeed the menu draws its inspiration from one of Italy's most respected regional traditions, where fresh, earthy and simple ingredients are the star. The emphasis is on pork (cured in various ways), wild boar, mushrooms, local vegetables, and superb olive oil and spices. Tutti matti tries to follow in that tradition but IMHO fails to deliver on taste. My funghi starter lacked flavor and texture and looked lost in too large a plate. The maiale main (herbed and spiced pork done in a "porchetta" style) was ok, but again did not express its flavours with the needed intensity: it was fatty and pleasant enough but hardly memorable. My partner's porchetta starter was described as tasty but not raved about, while venison as a main lacked flavor and was nondescript. Wine list is pretty generous, and our Supertuscan was the best part of the meal and still affordable despite restaurant markups. Service was very friendly and so was the atmosphere. The issue here isn't the theme, decor, or service: the chef(s) need to be less lazy and work way harder if they want to honour and replicate a real Tuscan experience rather than loosely imitating it in name but not substance. Toronto has room for Tuscany, but only if it wants to excel.

Yelp
Came for Winterlicious dinner. Service and food were ok but not as good as when I came a couple of years ago. Server asked if we wanted flat water and then charged us 750 for the bottle. No bread served at the table. Really long delays between courses Appetizers Eggplant meatballs balls - good but a bit salty porchetta - good Main course Rotolo with ricotta and greens - good but the server didn't offer Parmesan without me asking Sausage - horrible presentation - large sausage sitting in a plate of beans - my friends didn't finish Dessert Ricotta cake - good Caramel chocolate mousse - too sweet - was my favorite dessert before but don't like latest version Overall there are better winterlicious offerings out there

Yelp
The entrees were only okay, nothing special. The server suggested we order an appetizer that wasn't on the menu. When it arrived it was disappointing and lackluster. The appetizer cost us 18$ - when it was only bread with some sauce on it, which tasted horrible... I wish he told us before hand that it would be 18$ for some bad bread.

Yelp
The worst service I have ever experienced from my recent memories. The service was so disinterested in our group, he was ignoring us pretty much most of the night! He would try to say something to us while walking away to attend another table. Didn't ask how our food was or didn't even bother to refill our water glasses. Brushing us off at the end by telling us the pastry chef had to leave at 930p so we better order our dessert early and it was not even 9p. The food was excellent but that won't compensate the poor customer service. If I wasn't there with my old friends that I haven't seen for a long time, I would have walked out this place or made a big scene with this rude server.

Yelp
It had been a while since we dined here and we were somewhat disappointed. The restaurant was almost empty on a Thursday night - never a good sign. We told the waiter when we arrived that we had a reservation but he didn't seem very interested in taking our name. The next day we received an email from Open Table wondering why we hadn't honoured our reservation. Service was well meaning but inconsistent. The wine we selected was not available, we selected another - same problem. Eventually a bottle of the varietal we had asked for was dug up from somewhere. My husband's dish - pasta - was delivered about 10 minutes before mine - porchetta - was served. Pretty much inexcusable since the restaurant was almost empty. The food was OK but not great. The best part of the meal was the small cheese plate and Americano coffees which were excellent although we had to ask for bread to go with the cheese. When we left around 7:45 the staff were sitting around chatting with each other. I understand the restaurant was closed for about a month due to a flood - they will need to work much harder to bring back their old customer base.

Yelp
I adore this place.... Authentic Italian cuisine.... Very nice space modern and classy. Attentive and very friendly staff... all... they act so proud and also enjoy Tutti Matti.. If i lived in Toronto this would be a weekly visit for me... Food is spectacular... the Antipasti is enough for 3 people minimum and top quality. The short ribs are simply as good as they come and are thought about days before being served no doubt... Last visit i had a Pasta with Octopus and Pork??/ Yes ??/ Wow, it was a treat.... If you have not been you must.... I will continue..

Yelp
Our party of 12 had a wonderful meal! We literally had one of every appetizer and every meal on the menu. We all agreed that the food was prepared well, the presentation perfect and the service impeccable. A great selection of wines in all price ranges from Niagara, California and Italy. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you have never had food from this region of Italy!!

Yelp
Location: It's at a convenient location and easily spotted as the colour of the building stands out in comparison to the rest on the street! Decor: Very intimate! The lighting was very good and it felt chic and rustic at the same time. Additionally, you could see the chefs cooking from your seating! Service: Impeccable. Our server was honestly the best. He was super attentive and made a ton of wonderful suggestions and tried his hardest to cater to my dietary restrictions. Honestly, some of the best service I've ever had in a restaurant in Toronto! Food: We had a delicious antipasto platter with amazing apricot jam, chicken pate, rosemary pound cake (quite buttery?), tons of cured meats and olives! Very good! Then I had the wild boar ragu with pinci. The ragu tasted heavily of onions so I still am unsure of what wild boar tastes like. As for the pasta, it was next level al dente. I eat a ton of pasta but this? This was simply painful. I have no idea how I ended up chewing it it took me awhile. The short ribs were delicious but quite sweet which was a bit odd. The tiramisu was the highlight! So delicious! Small portion though. I would come back again!

Yelp
+ good service + warm, cozy atmosphere + decent wine selection - food is mediocre - pricey for what it was - small portions Would I go back? Sure, if I were in the neighbourhood and couldn't really be bothered to find something else. There are however, lots of other restaurants in this city that I would recommend first.

Yelp
A solid 3 star rating. It's a decent place to eat if you're not in a rush and looking for a mature and professional atmosphere. The food was good but I have to say, we left feeling a bit hungry. The food wasn't memorable. Best time to go: weekday lunch or Friday night dinner Attire: casually classy Experience: quiet and low key night... You won't be picking up singles here Cost: I found it a bit pricy for the food but it was good Service: fair, no complaints Recommendations: any one of the pasta dishes

Yelp
This is my second time dining there, this week! Tonight I had orata, a beautiful white fish, cooked hole on the grill and then filleted. The light sauce was mostly basil and mint. It was just delicious. Had a side of grilled broccoli with parmigiana that my husband and I fought over! He had sausage with canellini beans in a tomato sauce. It was exquisite. First time, I had a half chicken, and tasted the lamb shank and brisket over pasta. They played perfect music, as well, so I was so happy. Dining while listening to Maxwell is a superb event.

Yelp
Had a rez for patio dining, but my dinner companion was feeling unwilling to go out after his second vaccination left him a little wobbly, so we changed to pick up order which was done smoothly, Alida even emailing to say a wine we had asked for was available. Everything was waiting on arrival, clearly just moments out of the oven, beautifully packed so it was still warm when I reached home 20 mins later. And more the point, delicious. I think their beef short ribs has got to have the most sublime saucing of any dish in Toronto. The smashed potatoes are totally addictive. The tagiatelle with beef and boar meet toothsome as always - and the chicken parm, elevated out of the normal red sauce diet to something very fine indeed. We had tons of leftovers (mains easily feed 1 1/2-2) which is a bonus. Only disappointment, no desserts that can travel (ie, they contain gelato) but my doctor would approve! Throughout the pandemic I have felt that most "quality" eateries' products, however earnestly attempted, were not worth the hassle (like drivers who can't find one's address, high service charges, etc) but this, intended to be a special evening on their patio, was great cooking even though we couldn't dine on their premises. TM is one of the best restaurants in TO - this from someone who eats out 4-5 nights a week and is extremely fussy. It is not inexpensive, but reasonable, especially in terms of sharing many plates. Unqualified recommendation!

Yelp
The best meal I've ever had in Toronto! My date and I split three courses and dessert, and while each was very very good, the beef short rib with parsnip puree is absolutely outstanding and a must try. In addition, the wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable and make good recommendations for wine, of which their list is well curated and changes frequently with a good selection of organic / biodynamic / natural wines. Overall, this is a great restaurant and one the city should be proud of!

Yelp
It's pretty unusual to be blown away by a restaurant serving a cuisine you thought you knew. Well I thought I knew how homemade pasta should taste; until Tutti Matti opened my eyes...opened my taste buds to the most tender, creamy, teasingly spicy...delicious pasta dishes. Tutti Matti where have you been my whole life. When I come back to Toronto, I'll be headed straight back to you baby.

Yelp
I just retunned from lunch at Tutti Matti. It is true what other reviewers say - the service could be better. We were served relatively quickly but only because we told our waitress we were in a hurry and she was clearly displeased with that. Having said that, the atmosphere and food more than make up for the spotty service. I started with the carpaccio. It was just ok. I did not find the beef to be overly flavourfull. The best part of this dish was the mound of shaved shaved parmigiano reggiano that came with it. My dining companion had the insalate dei matti with arugula, tuna, sautéed red onions, endive, cucumber and lemon and it was excellent (I had a little taste). I would recommend this over the carpaccio any day. After reading the reviews, I decided on the pappardelle with with pulled brisket, tomatoes, garlic and fresh herbs. It was delicious. The portion size was quite fair but not huge. Perfectly sized for lunch. We ended up sharing the lemon tart and it was spectacular. Simply perfect. Not too tart and not too sweet. It was quite large and more than enough for three of us to share. I would highly recommend trying this dessert. I will be back.

Yelp
After living in the neighbourhood and walking by it for over two years, I finally ventured into Tutti Matti. We took advantage of the $15 Prix Fixe lunch. We got there 10 minutes shy of lunch opening. The straight-to-the-point staff said we could sit while they finish up lunch prep. For the $15, we had 3 courses - starter (choice of 2 salads, soup of the day, bruschetta), main (choice of 2 pastas, meat dish, fish dish), dessert (no choice). I had a salad (baby spinach with red grapes, shaved grana padano and walnuts in a fruit vinaigrette), pasta (pasta with meat sauce - freshly made on site pasta), and dessert was a chilled pear and chocolate tart. The food was great despite the low price. I would've easily paid much more. The service was attentive though a bit brusque. All in all, I really liked Tutti Matti. I wish it didn't take me two years to eat there. Now that I've experienced it, I shall be back.
