Drink Your Way Down the River at These 3 D.C. Area Tubing Locations - Eater DC

"Historic downtown Fredericksburg is packed with family-friendly dining options. Consider crab cakes and homemade chili from retro standalone staple 2400 Diner; barbecue bacon burgers and cheesecake from homestyle favorite Charlie G’s; or draft beers paired with pizza at family-owned Irish gastropub J. Brian’s." - Missy Frederick

We enjoyed our lunch. Very affordable, nostalgic feel, great food and location. We loved that you could sit at the counter. Waitress was very friendly and attentive even though she was working the entire diner herself. 😊

Google
First, the good. Reasonably priced - perhaps the most affordable restaurant in the area where you can still get a decent meal for the price. Food quality is good. Service is not as attentive as I'd like, but it was crowded on our visit. The bad? Limited parking and, as mentioned, it gets crowded. Both of us asked for cheese in our scrambled eggs and they literally just slapped a piece of American cheese on top. It wasn't even melted. Lazy. Overall, this is a good diner and great if you want to have a genuine diner experience in this area.

Google
2400 Diner in Fredericksburg is the kind of place that feels like home as soon as you walk in. The food and cake were delicious

Google
The service was great and the food was excellent. Only complaint they seem to serve out of order. For example I arrived and then a elderly couple arrived. After we both arrived another young couple arrived .After seating me they served the young couple. I went to the server privately and stated the elderly couple was next and it was too hot for them to continue to wait. The server stated the young couple called ahead, however she would go check on them. She followed up on the situation and ensured the elderly couple was seated within 10 minutes of my concern . Yes I was going to give up our seats if it was necessary as I hope my middle age years will be as graceful as theirs. Overall a great experience.

We were attending our family reunion in town and on our last morning we decided to eat breakfast here before we got on the road. The staff was very friendly. When you walk in, it gives you that hometown feeling. The food was great. I ordered the special which was delicious. Definitely a must visit when you’re in town.

Neat place been there forever you could tell I got the turkey gravy extremely hurt my stomach.

Google
To start there was a 45 minute wait. Which wasn't a problem as we assumed, since we aren't from the area, it was a sign of food worth waiting for. It wasn't. Eggs were running, potatoes (fries) were bland and scrapple was too thick leading to an undercooked texture as you ate it. The one good thing is that the service was good and it's cheap. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend this location and I won't be back when I'm in the area again.

I’ve grew up eating at the 2400 Diner. It was always my mom’s go to for a quick breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Not only is the family feel and nostalgia amazing… but the food is full of comfort. I ordered the grilled cheese today. Yes a grilled cheese! But to be honest I’m very particular about my grilled cheese sandwhiches and it’s my FAVORITE. I’ve carried on the tradition and this is now my son’s favorite as well. My Mom ordered the scrapple with 2 eggs and the breakfast special which was the apple and caramel french toast. The french toast was pretty soggy from the caramel sauce but it still had great flavor. The service is always amazing… if you are looking for affordable, quick, and comforting, I 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Great service, great food. I only wish my town had one of these! From Alabama with love. We had two breakfasts in the early afternoon. We didn't want to get up when done! The seating area was delightfully detailed with fun Greek things. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal establishment with amazing service, food and old school vibe. We were sat immediately, and when our breakfast was brought out, she brought all the condiments we needed. Now that is service!! It is nice not having to ask for this and that. I rarely do 5 stars, but this one definitely deserves it. If we are ever back in Fredericksburg. we will definitely come back here! And the price was great, 2 ppl for $22, how do you beat that?

Yelp
Great local place, with good service and good food. Loved that the French toast was regular sized bread, so flavorful. The potatoes were seasoned great and waitress recommended the special spinach feta omelet also very good. Sausage patties were not that good, bacon was better. We were looking for a local place for breakfast on our travels and based on recommendations on Yelp decided to come here.

Yelp
The amount of food for the price is insane! That's one of the breakfast spots I've been too in a long time. The eggs were cooked perfect, bacon was amazing. Hard to find good bacon, cooked right. They nailed it. The pancakes and French toast were cooked perfect. So much food, couldn't finish it all. Service was great and waitress was attentive and kept cups full!

Brianna N.

Yelp
Great little diner, kind people and good breakfast food. Pretty small on the inside so be prepared to sit at the counter. Will be coming back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little diner with your normal breakfast and lunch offerings. Sometimes given how busy it is in the restaurant it can be a little tight. The place isn't big so I'd prefer going on off hours.

Yelp
Dined at 2400 Diner on Princess Anne Street, for the first time today. Place is small, but clean and cozy. Parking is limited. There was about a 40 minute wait for seating. I ordered the short stack of pancakes and a coffee. My husband ordered a Western omelet and added sausage, bacon, ham, cheddar cheese and an extra egg to his omelet. He got home fries and toast with strawberry jam on the side, along with a coffee. Food was delicious and fresh! The pancakes were huge; we shared with each other and I was a big fan of his omelet especially! The service was top notch. We will most definitely return. This is a Fredericksburg gem.

Yelp
I was in the downtown Fredericksburg area around lunch time on a Friday and decided to give 2400 Diner a try, since I've driven by it hundreds and hundreds of times over the years, but never gave a thought to stopping here. Upon pulling into the lot, there was one space left... Upon entering the diner, they were packed! I think I read in other reviews that they are very small and pack up quick - Well, that's true! But since I was solo, I was able to score a seat at the counter. Service was very friendly and it's very obvious that this place has a very loyal, regular crowd, because nearly everyone that was finishing and leaving were addressing the wait staff by name, saying their goodbyes and the staff replied in same. As for the menu - typical diner fare, even with some of the Greek and Italian specialties tossed in. I opted for something from the hot sandwich section of the menu and asked my server what she likes and fortunately for me, she said she loves their corned beef (I say "fortunately" because I was tossing between a Ruben and a Corned Beef & Onion with Mustard on Rye), she went on to tell me her favorite sandwich was the Corned Beef, Mustard & Onion on Rye, so I opted for it, with a side of onion rings. But first, I had to ask what kind of o-rings they had and when she said "beer battered" I was all in!! I should note that I started with coffee, which was excellent! I also took notice that the water glass (the typical older style plastic cup style glasses) was extremely clean. I looked around and took notice that the entire joint was spotless! I'm a stickler for attention to detail, so I looked in corners, at the tops of things up high (like décor that's been hanging so long, there are now cobwebs and dust bunnies hanging from them) and there were ABSOLUTELY NO DUST BUNNIES, COBWEBS or dirt anywhere! This place is spotless, which made me feel great! I also went to the restroom while there and it was very clean too. I also noticed the great job the waitresses did cleaning tables in between guests, as well as taking care of each other's guests on refills. When my food arrived, it looked great and I was ready to dig in! The pickle was typical, it was good. The sandwich was awesome! Having never had this particular sandwich, I made the assumption that the onions would be fried or sautéed, but they weren't, they were raw. Fortunately they were mild, so I was able to enjoy them on the sandwich, but next time I'll ask for them to be fried up on the flattop. The corned beef was excellent! Moist, flavorful and tender! The warm, toasted and buttered rye bread was excellent too! And the onion rings were great, exactly what I prefer in the way of onion rings! Overall, I really enjoyed this visit and don't know why I took this long to come here, but I'll be back, soon!

Yelp
I truly love this diner. Small, limited parking, you wait for a table or sit at the counter and the staff appears to have been there for a long time. Been numerous times since moving to Fredericksburg in August. Usually I get there before 1pm and I always get breakfast. Perfectly cooked bacon that's crumbly and the eggs are the precise over medium. Coffee is good and plentiful. Pancakes are almost larger than the plate but the syrup was lacking so I may start bringing in my own. Lots of daily specials but you have to look for them when you walk in as they aren't usually verbally mentioned. Very clean and usually always busy when I come in.

Yelp
It is not easy to precisely describe this place. It has the ambiance of a southern meat-and-threes cafe, with a nod toward a New Jersey Greek diner. While the food is legit good, anyone coming from up north will be disappointed if they compare the menu's breadth to those in their home area. But I hope people will stop and give 2400 a try, I really do. We have now been here three times, twice while staying in Fredericksburg, once after driving here (100 miles round trip) just for the diner and a nearby (excellent) frozen custard stand. Everything we have had has been well prepared, well thought out, and ample portions. I recommend the Greek omelette if you are in a breakfast mood. A lot of places do these now, and this one is made particularly well, with jumbo eggs, feta, olives, tomato and onions (would love to see some pepperoncini in there, but at $8.25 you can't go wrong.) My wife has had the gyro platter I think twice. I'll include a picture here. Not a rolled up gyro, but well seasoned meat on good bread (though it was a flatbread, not a pita) with a large Greek salad and decent tzatziki along side. Previously, I ordered what I recall to be a pretty decent Italian hoagie here. The fruit and veg that come out of the kitchen taste fresh, without that taste of a polybag like so many places do. On our last visit I chanced to see the kitchen crew prepping hundreds of fresh strawberries for service, and they tasted vibrantly fresh when I quickly asked for a side of fruit. I have never left disappointed. The menu has seafood and steak offerings, I have not and probably will not try them. It also has a large offering of sandwiches and burgers and other Greek dishes (I saw the moussaka and kabobs on another table. looked very good.) Italian offerings and a lengthy breakfast menu. I always meet a restaurant where it is when yelping them. This is a solid 3 star Greek cafe. It is not in Jersey and doesn't pretend to be. But it is above average for diner food, and certainly as good as or better than most places in my (larger) home town 50 miles south. Worth a stop in the area, and worth the occasional drive if you get an urge for a road trip.

Yelp
Best breakfast food ever!! Great service and the Apple Carmel French toast was delicious

Yelp
Excellent home cooking, everything is great, food always hot. Prices are not as high as other area restaurants. Clean and run very efficiently.

Yelp
We went for breakfast, the menu had something for everyone in our party. Our waiter was attentive but didn't hover. Table management could use some work, we were told the wait would be 15-20 minutes but after 40 minutes were seated in a booth too small for us.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I had this delicious treat, and I was lucky enough to find this in this diner. This is a banana cream pie . Sweet, creamy , and just full of banana flavor. The ratio of the banana cream, banana and cream, was spot on. This wil for sure will give you food coma, because you will just have to keep eating it. I would for sure go back to try more of their desserts, because who doesn't love sweets am I right? Besides the dessert, they also have the classic breakfasts like steak and eggs, home fries and much much more !! You have to call and reserve a seat before you go though, because they are limiting seats. Meaning they are not sitting people on the counter area.

Yelp
I've lived in the area for a number of years, and this is the first time I've been there. The interior is smaller than I thought it would be. Apparently a favorite for locals because it was packed! Standard hometown diner feel. Parking wasn't bad considering you are near downtown Fredericksburg. Food was good. Would I go here again? Yeah. It was pretty good.

Donna F.

Yelp
Love this Diner! Great service, typical diner food, served hot and yum! Personable and very prompt service. It's a small place that is clean and nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Good 'old fashioned diner'-- is what it is without presumption to more. Within that scope, it gets good stars. If you're looking for roasted pumpkin-cumin dusted waffles with green apple and oxtail confit, move along. Strong omelet. Steak and cheese sandwich that looked like two torpedoes ready to launch (straight to my coronaries?). So take an aspirin after lunch. All downed in a few bites
google avatar

Dana C.

Yelp
Service was good, food was good, real diner atmosphere, good prices, and nice staff. Pretty much everything you'd want from a diner (except vegetarian meat options!)
google avatar

Vicki S.

Yelp
Such a great place. Fresh hot bacon cheeseburger. The bacon was a good thickness. The chicken and waffles where amazing. They prepare the chicken tenders each serving. Cannot wait to explore the whole menus

Yelp
Being from the NY/NJ area, Greek diners have certainly always been a thing. We love the portions, the prices and most of all the characters that run the joints. They have always been wonderful. To find one in the south with the same spirit was a wonderful experience.

M S.

Yelp
My go to place for homemade delicious breakfast. I love their cream chipped beef over toast, with a side of crispy homefries, easy over eggs, and crispy corn beef hash with a side of pancakes. Hot fresh cup of decaf coffee with cream. Service is good too. The only down fall is, it's a small restaurant and at times there is a wait for breakfast but it's worth it. Reasonable prices.

Yelp
The pumpkin pancakes were incredible. Friendly staff and great service. I will be revisiting in the future!

Yelp
Horrible not coming back. The food overall meh, people meh, service alright, not very big but not too small ok size.
google avatar

Ellen R.

Yelp
Great service. Food is good also. If you want a place to chill while you eat, this is it. Great breakfasts. Can get crowded though.

Dominic H.

Yelp
The customer service was incredible especially taking our phone call. When we first walked in we were greeted in a very friendly manner they already had the menus setup at our table waiting. Our server was very sweet and took our orders right away. The food was terrific, everything from the eggs, bacon, potatoes were cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend this restaurant that wants something different from a typical corporate diner or restaurant. The Atmosphere really makes you think your eating at grandmas.

Yelp
2400 Diner I've been to this place 3 times. The first time was pre-covid. We had lunch and were very pleased. It's a small friendly place. The service was good and the food was excellent. The second time was during covid. There's not a lot of space in there. The waitress removed the sign from the booth which was placed there for social distancing and seated us. Although it was a bit uncomfortable, we stayed and kept our masks on when we weren't eating. The waitress carried on a conversation with patrons on both sides of us. They were all maskless (as they were seated) talking about the mask mandate. None of them approved of it, stating that they are all adults and could make their own decisions. I know I should have left right then, but I stayed and tried to be careful. Our third visit will be our last. The spacing when we were seated was a little better. We had the same waitress. I was very disturbed when a patron, standing right in front of the sign stating the masking requirements, which included "mask must be worn when not seated". He and this waitress carried on a lengthy conversation regarding the Capitol insurrection. It lasted approximately 20 minutes. They were very much into the opinion that it was no big deal and the police officer who died didn't really die because of it. Apparently she had inside information and that even his family agreed. As far as I know, a cause of his death has not been released. She even took out her cell phone to gleefully show her "video evidence" that they were just milling around, not doing anything and were actually invited in by the Capitol Police. I have been so careful to avoid infection, carefully following the CDC guidelines and this patron stood right in the entrance spewing his spit which I had to eventually walk thru. The fact that the conversation took place with a waitress who should have been enforcing the mask mandate, is beyond comprehension. The irony is that we were there because my husband just got his 1st dose of vaccine at the nearby VA clinic. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten one yet so I have to wait and hope that I was not exposed today. I should note that the waitress did keep her mask on throughout.

Yelp
Cute and intimate little corner diner. This place is itty bitty and doesn't have many booths-- maybe 8 of them plus a whole wrap around old school diner bar. Their pricing is extremely reasonable + they offer a daily special + an early bird special. They DO accept Apple Pay and they have alcoholic drinks available. Definitely recommend the short stack breaky! Plus the staff are the sweetest :)
google avatar

Robin D.

Yelp
Busy little diner that serves a great breakfast. Other reviews have identified that there aren't a lot of booths, making counter seating an option should you find space. What this essentially means is it's a popular spot in town and a throwback to a time when diner food ruled. Sat at the counter and had a wonderful Mediterranean omelette, basically a gyro with eggs. Add toast, home fries and coffee. All good. Colleague had chipped beef over English muffin, scrambled eggs and country ham. Thoroughly enjoyed. Being busy, it took some time for our breakfast, but it was well worth it. Our service was a bit brusque. You'll see that common comment throughout. Not necessarily rude, but businesslike. Small parking lot. We fortunately found a spot. Left our meal feeling satisfied.

Yelp
I have lived off and on in this area for more than 30 years, and I have never eaten in this diner despite many recommendations to do so. So. . . on the morning of my 60th birthday, my wife and daughter and I decided to have breakfast here. There are Greek themes in the decor that may be as old as the Parthenon; and spring in the booth bench threatened to impale me, but in the end it comes down to the food and service. And the food and service was great. I enjoyed the ambiance, a crowded diner with very little room to maneuver, and yet it felt cozy, private and comfortable. And did I mention the food and service was excellent? Not surprisingly, I had the Greek omelette. You should too! Trust me.

Rita L.

Yelp
Let's start with the good. Food came out quick and was well seasoned. My omelette was delicious. Staff was very friendly! My husband wasn't pleased with the pancakes. They were huge but not light and fluffy. The space is kind of tight so I wouldn't recommend over 5-6 to a party.

Dave K.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Fredericksburg, they have great salads and spaghetti and meatballs, they have great Rubens and Gyros. We have been going here for years and have always been happy with the food and service.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
We stopped in when we seen this diner on 17. The food was good I got chicken salad and chicken souvlaki and clam chowder my son got the half fried chicken. It was all good. The waitress was nice to us but very rude to the other waitress. By the time we were done I was ready to leave because I didn't know how much longer I could bite my tongue with her snarky comments to no at this other waitress. I work in a restaurant I get you have bad days with coworkers but your customers don't want to hear that the entire time they are in there. She said she'd worked there 20 something years and I know help is hard to find but she is probably half the reason they can't get help.
google avatar

Yelp
Seating is extremely uncomfortable and cramped. My shoes kept bumping against the person across from me unless I tightened my calves against my seat. There was a huge indent in my seat as well that caused discomfort to my back. My original seat was a lot more comfortable, but they made use move when I family with kids showed up. They required the larger seating area. I found it kinda rude to make us move after we already ordered. I'd be more comfortable eating on the curb. Employees were friendly. The toast was cold and not crisp. It literally sat around in the back for 20 minutes while we waited for the rest to be cooked. They probably made it first rather than last out of convenience. The homefries or giant slightly cooked potato chunks were very bland. They had onion and bell pepper that was cooked enough. They cooked the potatoes as such a low temperature that it prevent them from browning which further reduces their taste. They cut them in such huge chunks that it reduces they overall surface area which further prevents their ability to contain flavor. Also there is evidence that they cook the potatoes in too large a batch. My friends potatoes were clearly cooked on the bottom of mine while in the cast iron skillet judging by the color and crispness. The over-medium eggs I ordered were just that. Runny yolk, solid white. They know how to cook eggs. Bacon was cold and burnt. Possibly made an hour before it reached my table. Overall I'm very disappointed with this establishment. My 8 year old brother can cook better than this.

Yelp
A great small-town feel to this restaurant. Can be a little crowded and the wait time might be a little longer than the average restaurant, but the food was delicious and worth the wait. Makes you feel at home and the food is cheap compared to the average restaurant as well.

Yelp
EPIC WIN! Long story short (are any of my stories ever short?), we had missed breakfast at our B&B, which was fine, because I was dying to eat here anyways. I mean, come on, who would chose basic B&B fare over dining in an awesome diner from the 50's that *clearly* hasn't changed a single thing since they first opened? The diner is tiny, but all the booths and tables still have formica tops. The waitresses are amazing, and the food was definite YUM! Now, please keep in mind that this is a greasy spoon, so the food was basic, hearty, a little greasy and little heavy, but my goodness the flavors had the delicious subtle taste of fatty yumminess that you can't find anywhere but an authentic greasy spoon. Our server was epic and hilarious. Although she was having a bad day (she herself admitted that she had to take a 10 minute break to wallow in self-pity while she had another server cover for her), she still stayed on top of our orders, tried to be cheery, and when some douche driving a red BMW tried to run out on their bill - she took off sprinting after them like the champ that she is. Awesome awesome awesome!

Yelp
I was in town and found 2400 on Yelp. I was excited about getting a nice breakfast this morning. 2400 was busy when I arrived around 11:30, with two bar stools open and one booth. I ended up taking the booth because I wanted a little room to spread out and enjoy my breakfast. 5 minutes go by... the server takes the order at the booth next to mine, drops that person's menu off at my table, and goes back behind the counter. She didn't bother to ask what I wanted to drink, and no friendly hello. 5 more minutes go by... another lady stops at the table and asks what I'd like to drink. I say coffee, but at this point I've had more than enough time to read the menu and I know what I want. She says that lady #1 will be with me in a minute to get my order... okay... 10 more minutes go by and I am almost finished with my coffee. I pull my phone out and start scrolling through some of the Yelp reviews. Brett A's review sent me over the edge and I got up and walked out. I don't need to wait 20 minutes to be ignored by people who I probably don't want to associate with anyway... a shame because I was really looking forward to some good food.

Yelp
The 2400 Diner has the best cakes anywhere to be found. Instead of getting a traditional wedding cake for our wedding, we bought a number of homemade cakes from the 2400 Diner of various flavors for our wedding and rehearsal dinner. The cake lady (the owner of the Diner I think) was incredibly helpful, made our cakes to order, and the price couldn't be beat! Plus, we always love eating here when in Fredericksburg...they have great food!

Cameron F.

Yelp
I absolutely love hometown diners and this is an absolute treasure. They had awesome selection for such a boutique spot and the food and salad was authentic Greek! Very casual and the staff was super friendly. Will be back on the regular
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
Excellent old fashion diner. I had the blueberry pancake special. The pancakes were perfect and clearly homemade. The prices are so reasonable and the staff is super friendly.
google avatar

Michele G.

Yelp
Go here and enjoy great breakfast food. Will you have to wait to be seated? Depends when you go; weekday brunch was not full. Will you have to wait for your food? It happens since every order is made fresh. On Friday we only waited 12 minutes. When your food arrives will you be happy? It will feel like a preview of heaven(it is very good, no slight to Heaven intended). Enjoy, we did!

Yelp
Diners always will have a special place in my heart, and this family owned diner does it right! Breakfast all day, great lunch and dinner options and a real 'homey' feel. I'm even pretty sure the owner/manager has a corner booth spot reserved for friends and family who drop by...from homemade soups to delicious gyros this place covers the comfort food bases in just the right ways!
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
It has maybe 14 seats available at bartop and maybe 7 booths. Pretty small restaurant but it has that old timey local mom and pop restaurant feel that I'm used to in the Midwest which I love. So I got the Blueberry pancake meal with 2 eggs and 2 sausage (patties) for $8.95. I'll say they're a little slow getting the food out; took about 15-20 to get my food. But it was good. The waitress wasn't the most friendly but I think it was just her personality. She wasn't rude or anything. Might have been a little overwhelmed. They were busy. Parking isn't great but I mean you can probably park 10-12 cars outside in the lot. All in all the bang for the buck aspect is there. I'll be back.

Yelp
I love coming to this place on weekends. And like all popular and small diners, there's a wait. But once you're seated you won't be disappointed with the menu, the service, or the food. The cheerful and fun waitress staff make the experience even more pleasant. The portions are ample and prices are decent. Recommend the omelette.

Kaiser B.

Yelp
Loved it.... Food, service, servers and environment , all were just great. Small/ cozy restaurant with complete goodness. We had pumpkin pancakes made with fresh pumpkins. Also we had Greek omelette and home fries cooked in onions. Loved it
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
The red head hostess/server was great. Courteous and seated quickly. The food was great, well worth the stop.
google avatar

Melissa N.

Yelp
Get there early as this diner gets busy from the get go, or be prepared to wait if you have your heart and stomach set on eating here. It can get quite cozy, but the conversations at the bar/counter lively and down home. Loved their fall special...pumpkin pancakes made with fresh pumpkin topped with whipped cream and nutmeg...AMAZING!!! Of course it's only available in October.

James W.

Yelp
Over the years, this has become my favorite spot in Fredericksburg. This is one of those classic diners maintaining a vintage feel with a hometown touch. The food has always been great and the service and management is even greater... Love those folks! You are always greeted with a smile and friendly hello! I look forward to each visit to this amazing family diner. All the very best for a wonderful future ahead!

Yelp
This place is super tiny and quaint! There is a small parking lot. The food was amazing, plentiful, and CHEAP! I had your typical eggs, bacon, toast, and home fries! Everything was very delicious. The wait staff was friendly and very welcoming. The waitresses were attentive and made sure our glasses were always full. Our breakfast came out quick and hot. I'm so glad that we didn't pass on this place because of the exterior. It's an old spot that is known to the locals and we definitely saw regulars there; the wait staff knew them by name and were very direct with them. It was a great place for breakfast with my mom and sister. I definitely would not go here if you have more than 4 people in your party.
