Seattle’s Best Dive Bars | Eater Seattle

"This classic dive has long been a go-to for Central District residents (with a sibling, Twilight Rainier, in Hillman City). The bar has a nice selection of beers on tap, burgers, chicken sandwiches, and even loco moco." - Meg van Huygen

The Best Holiday Bar and Restaurant Pop-Ups and Events in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This magical pop-up inside the Astra Hotel features hundreds of elves (as figurines, not actual elves, sadly), an upside-down Christmas tree, and games only elves (and elf lovers) love to play. Make a reservation online to swing by and check it out — holiday food and cocktails are on offer, and folks 16 and up can enter with a parent, although those under 21 obviously can’t drink booze and must be accompanied by an adult." - Courtney E. Food was good. Portion size was small. Drinks were good. Great prices for drinks and food. Overall good experience. The ambiance is just like being inside Twilight. It's so gloomy and dark on the inside. Nice place casual place.

I went for my birthday. The food is delicious, the drinks are proper and the atmosphere is lole cheers. One of my favorite places and I often frequent this place for great food and the jukebox and the back patio and the food lol. The chili! Lord help me it's bomb! Its well worth it. Give it a go.

Google
Food was really good, location is great, atmosphere is good but the service is really really slow and the bartenders are very slow.

Jeremy Yowell

Google
Twilight Exit is a dimly lit, intimate dive bar with an inviting atmosphere oozing out of every corner with tasty food/beer as well. The service we received on an early Tuesday evening at the bar was excellent and the food we tried was surprisingly good. Absolutely will be back.

Google
I waited 20 minutes for the worse nachos I’ve ever had in my life in an empty bar. The chips were stuck to the aluminum foil and burnt, the ground beef patty pieces they placed on top were extremely burnt as well. I will never order from this place again, it’s not hard to make Nachos and the fact that they even served something so burnt and disgusting, shows how poor their customer service and kitchen staff is.

Olivia Jenkins

Google
Classic pub with soft lighting from cute lanterns everywhere. It was super loud and crowded this Friday night. The patrons were friendly and formed a line to the bartender rather than all gathering around the bar which I greatly enjoyed. The bar was more well-stocked than I expected. The bar food was tasty… Or maybe it was the Mezcal lol There are pinball tables in the back and lots of tables to sit at everywhere else. overall it’s a cute spot that uses neighborhood bar. I’m excited to check out their karaoke. 🎤

Google
Very cool spot! We loved the place! Too bad we were only in town for a couple of days or we would have returned. We loved the darker vibe, the music, the vintage decor, the pinball machines and photobooth were fun! Wide variety of beers and cocktails, and the food was also very very good. Servers and bartender were sooo nice, I love Seattle!

Tomas Gomez

Google
this place has everything you could want. moody bar seating, swanky eating area, chill back patio with sun, even pinball and karaoke. the food is really good and the beer is cold. chill local spot with a little something for everyone.

Yelp
Service was fast and friendly at this cool local bar. The drinks and food were delicious! The outside area is a great getaway spot to relax and enjoy your meal. We had the Bourbon Burger with tots, chicken sandwich with fries and a Cobb Salad with fried chicken. The burger was huge and full of flavor. The tots had a fantastic crunchy texture. The chicken sandwich was also crunchy and flavorful. The Cobb salad was fresh and full of topping which included hard boiled egg, bacon, tomatoes, Blu cheese crumbles and crunchy chicken. Definitely going back!

Yelp
I simply adore this place. The drinks are made well and it's an old school Seattle "dive" bar that's no longer a dive. The food is basic bar grub but made well and with unique twists. I order the fried mozzarella balls every time. They are entire fresh balls of mozzarella deep fried and all gooey when they arrive. The burger, salads and chicken are all done right. If you're looking for a fun dive bar to visit with both indoor and outdoor seating, this is a great place to hit. Fortunately I have a friend who lives a block away, so I have an excuse to visit here on a regular basis. .

Yelp
If you are new to speaking English don't go here because the bartender will rush you and ask you if you are ok. Totally weird and threw the vibe completely off. I am a native English speaker, but this is my man's 5th language so he takes longer to order. She asked us "are we ok" and we hadn't even had a drink yet. YES we're ok she should have given him time to order. We left after the first drink.

Yelp
This is definitely a dive bar, and their food is definitely great!! It can get very crowded in the evenings. The chicken sandwich was MASSIVE! Very nice and crunch and flavorful. You also get a large portion of fries! The staff was nice as well. They could make better cocktails, especially their listed ones, but the ciders they have are great and they do have a wide array of spirits. This place is all street parking, and you enter from the alley way :)

Yelp
Great food. Great Service. And an ambiance like you could never imagine. This place is truly in a dark alley in the Central District. It would definitely be considered a dive bar but has a bit of a classy feel to it. The best part is that it is not your typical overpriced Seattle bar/restaurant which means you can get a couple drinks and a sandwich and keep your bill well under $40. I'll keep going back here for a long time.

William F.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall dive bar with good food, strong drinks and plenty of good tunes to play from the jukebox. A neighborhood fav!

T B.

Yelp
Great Seattle dive bar with outdoor seating and plenty of room! Pinball, photo booth, great staff.

Craig L.

Yelp
An excellent, old-school dive. Nothing new Seattle about it and that's fine with us. Try the nachos with tots.
google avatar

Natasha B.

Yelp
Low key, spacious, friendly staff. Food and drinks are reasonably priced. Would definitely go back.
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
I love this place, from the ambience to the outdoor patio to the drinks and the food (their fried cheese balls will change your life!). Dog friendly patio is always a plus!

JoAnna S.

Yelp
Seattle vibes from the jump! Twilight has the best ambiance, fresh inventive food and locals experience in the central/madison valley/leschi neighborhoods. See ya there!

G G.

Yelp
The artwork outside is an eye catcher. One step inside to the darkness and you can't help but be enthralled! There is so much to look at. There is also a patio outside that is dog friendly. The bartender made my drink to order, as per my tastes. It was hard to pick a burger as there were many good choices, sides too. Talk about a large portion! I had to get a to go box. Can't wait to return!
google avatar

Denise R.

Yelp
Great dive bar. Everything I've had to eat and drink here is delicious. The mozarella "sticks" are sooo good and don't get cold and coagulated. Yum! It is always cold though, so layer up.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Thee neighborhood spot that checks a ton of boxes: * Delicious made in-house food * fairly priced good cocktails * excellent lighting and art inside * french cafe music ambiance * large outdoor seating area * good vibes

Yelp
If it wasn't for the address, I would have Walked past this place. IT's described as a dive bar and the place is exactly that. It's very dark even on the sunniest days. I think the old timers and their usual regulars find the new customers a bit of a nuisance. The food here is excellent. Ordered the beet salad and fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was crispy, crunchy and super moist. It could have used a little more seasoning but combined with the rest of the ingredients, it was fine. The beet salad had the right amount of tang against the blue cheese. I don't drink alcohol but would come back here again just for the food.

Sean C.

Yelp
Love this place. Food is always perfect, super sweet staff and this is probably the coolest bar in the city. Lots of freaks, artists, neighborhood folks and musicians hang out here. Go!!!
google avatar

Alisha L.

Yelp
Food is amazing. We had burgers, chicken tenders, meatloaf sandwich and the steak salad. Steak was cooked medium rare to perfection. My kids LOVED their food. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Little dive style bar - but nothing wrong with that! Has great drinks, food, and pinball machines !
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
The best neighborhood place in the central district! Great vibes and the food is way better than it has any right to be for the prices.

Yelp
I love this dive bar. It fits that description perfectly. Plus they allow your pup to come in, if they're well behaved of course. It's in our neighborhood, so we will be back I'm sure. The Twilight Exit has this gloomy, grungy, PNW bar feel to it. The decor is very eclectic; but it matches and there is consistency so it doesn't feel too messy. One things for certain, the food options come out in HUGE portions. I highly recommend sharing with whoever you're with. We ordered the fried chicken wings and the greek fries. The reason I only gave them 4/5 stars is because for fried food, my S.O. and I felt like it was lacking in salt. Needless to say, we added condiments and it was all fine and dandy. The fried chicken wings are full wings - they were not separated. Definitely needed a fork and knife to eat the massive wings. The staff were friendly and did not give us the cold shoulder, which can happen at bars where there is no waiter service. The drink options were not too insane and we are always looking for good deals for beers on tap. Overall, I am hoping that when I come back I will be a little more impressed with the food. I loved the vibe: grungy, pup friendly, music oriented bar.
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
If you love a dive bar feel, quality food and a good variety of beers available, this is your spot. I was dreaming about the wings ....several days after my first visit. I would recommend the hot wings, mozzarella "sticks", and the nachos. Visited twice in a month for the three above entrees. Service is good and you pay and order at the bar. There is indoor dining and a small patio out back. I didn't visit the patio but it looked cute from the outside and partially covered.
google avatar

Shawna C.

Yelp
We got 4 margs, so good! 1 chilli cheese dog, I would skip 1 burger, over priced 1 house salad, the best caeser dressing ever Over all, I love the neighborhood dive bar for young adults of all background vibe. Will definitely come again
google avatar

Calvin L.

Yelp
I love this low-key bar! The food menu is pretty expansive if you want typical American bar food. Also for the price, the portions are pretty large. I'd recommend either sharing or saving it for another meal later. My favorite thing to order are the fried chicken wings. For $13, I believe I got about 10 pretty large sized wings. I could only finish half of them. The service is also always pretty friendly when I'm here. I'm really excited for the summer, as that's when the back patio will be a really nice place to chill and hang out.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Chill vibe, good food, good happy hour deals. Tots are TOTally worth it
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
It looked cute but kind of dive bar from the outside there is a nice size lot by the ally which is where the entrance is. The inside of the bar is dark but decorated in a fun way. But if the weather is nice for sure head outside to the patio with nautical decorations, picnic benches, and good shade. I ordered a margarita which was really good and they mash the lime and shake it together fresh, no premixed . My friend ordered the twilight burger with onion, tomato, lettuce, grilled onion, bacon, cream cheese, and a special aioli sauce. It was massive and he said it tasted really good but a food coma waiting to happen . Others said the fries, fried mushrooms, and chicken strips were bomb. I would for sure recommend for a small group hang out.

Aria W.

Yelp
An extremely intoxicated person kept bumping into my bar chair. After several unwanted touches, I told this person to stop touching me. The person sneered at me and spat out, "sorry". I did not respond, because they were now angry on top of being intoxicated. The person became angrier and yelled "I said I was SORRY!", and intentionally shoved me in the back, and ran out. I yelled in pain and turned to the bartender, who witnessed all of this, to see what he would do. Rather than assist me in any way, the bartender took my drink, said I was causing a scene, and ordered me to leave. When I responded that I had just been assaulted, he said that my yelling was worse than the assault! What?? I was then forced to leave the bar, and go outside, where my assailant was waiting for me, taunting and threatening me. The assailant was never arrested. Twilight loves to victimize people.

Yelp
A very well traveled friend from Seattle told me about The Twilight Exit. She said that it was her favorite bar/hangout spot in the whole world! With that being said, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to visit! When we arrived, we weren't sure if it was even the right place, or if it was open LOL! It's a small building with cool artwork and almost looks like an old night club... we entered on the side of the building. It was dark and honestly a little weird... we kept walking back and alas the bar! The bartender was super cool and could obviously tell that we were newbies! She explained the menu & to order at the bar- short and sweet, and we ordered exactly what we came for- the bacon burger slathered in peanut butter! Seemingly odd, but O.M.F.G delicious!!!!!! Seriously! Any place that sells burgers, tater tots, and beer- just has a place in my heart! The seating area was cafe style. They played Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and a few other faves! Super cool art, the people were chill, and the vibe made it hard to leave! I kept thinking- I wish we had a place like this back home! If you are in Seattle, the secret is out! Stop by The Twilight Exit because this is now my favorite bar, too!

Bre W.

Yelp
This place seriously has THE best bar food I've ever had. The service is super cool all of staff is always pleasant. The atmosphere is always fun, upbeat and just a lot of fun. They have arcade games and a picture booth. I've tried almost everything on the menu and 0 complaints. MUST TRY!!!

Yelp
Very solid dive bar. Friendly bartender. Great environment plus there are pinball machines. The photo booth did eat our money :( beats the cap hill crowds.

Yelp
I have loved this bar for such a long time but when I moved away to higher elevation, walking home from a fav neighborhood bar wasn't feasible. But I digress! This place is awesome. I have met such cool people here over the years. I've celebrated events; birthdays; and showed up just to hang out with that sweet magician dude (RIP). These days, Twilight is still keeping it real. Today I had a very nice conversation with some gentlemen at the bar. Unfortunately they didn't appear to be single. However! I am certainly going to re-add Twilight to my favorite bar list and most because Erica is an amazing bartender. Whoever is behind the bar always sets the tone and she is a gem at making patrons feel at ease. If owners are reading this, give this lady a raise! Cheers. :)

Natalie W.

Yelp
I just want to say that the person who wrote the novel down there giving a 1-star review sounds like a nightmare. Don't call restaurants making extra demands of them due to some problem with the delivery service you use. My partner does food delivery and cancelations happen all the time... The app then reassigns it to a new driver and guess what! That driver wants to get you the food fast so they get a decent tip (you best be tipping well!). ANYWAY, it's a pandemic, support the Twilight because they kick ass. Tip everyone A LOT for having your food prepared and delivered to you. Be a good human.
google avatar

Alexandra K.

Yelp
twilight exit is the quintessential dive bar. cheap drinks, good food selection, and chill music options. HH is okay, $1 off drafts and no food specials. but the wings are absolutely incredible and monstrous - the wings plate comes with 5-6, they are massive and more than enough chicken to be a full meal option for one person. staff is also friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Katya L.

Yelp
Absolutely one of my go-to bars in the CH/CD area, the Twilight Exit hasn't yet fallen prey to $12 craft cocktails and $9 pints that seem to have taken over the majority of the neighborhood. This is a dependable, true-blue neighborhood dive bar; it's dark, it's a little sticky, it's kind of noisy and gets packed on the weekends. It's one of the last bastions of sanity in the 'hood. Cheap beer, plus some less-cheap beer if you fancy. Pretty decent food for a dive bar, and a reasonable happy hour. Great patio out back for those rare sunny days. There's even a little room of pinball and games if you're into that. If you just want a pint and some hearty grub, look no further than the Twilight Exit, it's rad.
google avatar

Elspeth G.

Yelp
Good ambience and outdoor patio, and good beers on tap. Food isn't anything special. They charge $0.50 credit card fee for purchases under $10. Really? You're a bar. God forbid someone comes in for one drink. The place was dead, and the bar tender acted like we were bothering her when we ordered drinks. I got a very cliquey vibe from the waitstaff. To everyone commenting that this is a haven in changing Seattle, it makes me sad that this kind of place is what you desire in a dive bar. There are way better (real) dives all over the city. Try Kate's, Boxcar Ale House, Sloop Tavern, or Blue Moon Tavern. Those are the real deal, without the bad service.

Becca W.

Yelp
The twilight exit is one of the best bars in Seattle. Great bartenders, great beverages, and great food.

James B.

Yelp
Wow, just had a take away burger-huge and delicious! Will certainly be back for more. And priced exactly where it should be. Very glad to have given this place a try!~
google avatar

Camila R.

Yelp
Nice place. I am visiting the city and the Airbnb host recommendation was this place. I went on Sunday night also karaoke night, so it was a little to loud but the food was delicious and the service really good. Totally recommend it.

Jen W.

Yelp
I don't get out much since COVID, so I think this was the first bar I went to I Seattle since then, and it wasn't bad. Good beer, interesting tables, and even better pinball machines.
google avatar

Eric E.

Yelp
The service is weird and boh is slow. Here's the story: My friend wanted to try this place out and get a quick takeout since it was otw back to my place. They don't take orders over the phone and require being at the bar for that - fair enough. We're both Chefs...so we know how long it should take foods to be done. Was told it would take 20min which we assumed should really be 10-15 so close enough right? We waited over a half an hr and upon arriving back, realized they forgot the ck we ordered. The biggest issue we have...is that the staff was rude from the start, rushy, and pushy when he asked how much longer it would be AFTER their expired time given. Then on top of that...with attempts at calling them for almost an hour straight to rectify or get a refund...they'd pick up and hang up on us. Wow! Our order: SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN WINGS 2x Texas Dogs 1 Chili Cheese Dog Twilight Burger Stoner's Delight Sirloin Meatloaf This order looks familiar? Please, refund my friend back the amount you owe and I'll update.

Yelp
Always great food and friendly staff! Field roast burger w Muenster n mushrooms! Or 2 chz grill chz w tots! Mmmmmm

Yelp
Not sure under what confluence of criteria brings this pit four stars, but here is my story. This past Wednesday(day before Thanksgiving)...my sister and I are looking for a bar close to our location, having successfully navigated BOTH Whole Foods Market and QFC for the family holiday vittles. Twilight Exit did not open until 4:00 pm, so we milled aimlessly for ten minutes. THE bartender(single...as in the only bartender there......white female) was dinking around with the computer, and it was 4:10 before we got our double Maker's with soda backs($30.00). We bs'd a bit, she told us about her cool cold brewed coffee growler, and she moved on to other tasks...I asked to see a menu, just to see what it looked like. Looked right at her and asked the question at a decent volume....and was ignored. Asked again and increased the volume....at that point, a menu was presented. I was honestly treated as an annoyance rather than a consumer of the establishments offerings....wasn't there for karaoke or sitting around looking angsty....I was there to DRINK!! Left $10.00 for the tip, downed my drink and bounced. Won't EVER go back....listen...ANY place where I will do a better job getting my own drink than going through the bartender is not worth my time or money. BTW...I lived in Seattle from 1987 until 1997.....and am not some Cali douchebag complaining like the service is better in Cali...it generally isn't, and if I am any "state-identified" douchebag, it would be New York. FU hipster ASS Last Exit bartender lady(Erica(name on the receipt)....you truly sucked...even my sister agreed, and she is usually on the side of anyone that pisses me off)!!!
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
This is a classy dive bar! If you can combine those two. I was worried walking up to it, windows you couldn't see through and the entrance down the side. We peeked inside thinking it would be empty but it was packed! Happy hour til 8pm helps. No food specials except earlier on certain days. You order at the bar grab your drinks then take your flag to a table so they know which table to deliver the food to. We got Britain. I had the chicken masala with fries and fresh vegetables. My husband had the onion burger with tots. The chicken was moist and a big serving. The vegetable was alien heads... ahem brussel sprouts. My fries were hot and crispy the bottom layer soaked in the sauce yum! This dish would probably have ben better with the mashed potatoes it came with on the menu but I wanted fries darn it! And they were happy to substitute. The burger had a good portion of caramelized onions covered in a melted layer of Muenster cheese, but a little too much aioli. The tots came out warm not hot and tasted like a tot should. So overall watch out for alien brains and go light on the aioli! The food is delicious, service awesome, and great happy hour will make this my new go to place. Moral of the story don't judge a restaurant by its storefront.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
Wow, I don't remember giving this place three stars...but seriously it deserves five stars! First off, they have an awesome happy hour. Until 8 p.m. every night, the following drinks are dirt cheap: $1.50 Pabst draft, $3 Craft Ales, $2.50 Well Drinks. Twilight Exit also serves some tasty dishes, especially their hot wings that cost under $10. These come out steaming hot and I love the sauce and crispiness of the skin. Oh and did I mention they have a nice kick to them? Lastly, the deck area is a great place to lounge around on a nice sunny day. I recently discovered this and enjoyed being around good company while getting a cuteness overload at watching dogs play with one another. Like what other reviews have mentioned, it is in a random area but I believe its worth the trip to kick it here.

Mike L.

Yelp
The bartender who was working around 3pm this past Friday almost ruined our group experience. She seems to hate her job, has zero customer service skills, plays the "ice queen" and completely ignores you until she's ready, and won't even return a greeting. Other than her, the other servers have been pleasant and professional, and the food and drinks are good.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Excellent barfood. Decent bloody Mary. Will definitely make this my go to place for an early drink and/or late night pub fare. Helps that it's within walking distance

Erin E.

Yelp
This dive bar is awesome!! Fairly crowded on a Friday night, only a few open tables left but service was fast. Door is on the side where there's a big parking lot (all free yay!), open seating and order at the bar. Outdoor and bar seating too, there are a bunch of arcade games and shuffle board but we didn't play. We ordered a few drinks, nachos and the schnitzel sandwich...please try the sandwich. It was SO GOOD, so tender and flavorful. Definitely enough food for 2 people, nachos you could easily share with 2-4 people. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

S. Annette L.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood spot...locals camp out on the patio and around the inside bar with tight seating and darkness that provides a subtle euphoria. You don't go here to tell the bartender your woes. Order your stuff, grab your flag, and go sit the hell down. The menu offers a fried smorgasbord of goodness....and there may be some salad or something on there too. Who knows. I love the mushroom caps but let them cool or the roof of your mouth will not be the same, get the fried cheese nuggets and blue fries...oooh your arteries and heart doc will love you. The drinks are not "crafted" but jostled together like an old school drunk magician would do it. Perfection! I really like this place and its super popular in the summer. Good luck getting a table outside, its well worth the try.
google avatar

Sumyat T.

Yelp
I agree with people who said this place is too cliquey and a tinge racist. (Several poc reviewed on their Facebook page that they were profiled to pay upfront at the bar.) Upon coming in, my partner and I, both poc, were met w two hipstery id-checkers intensely staring at us without uttering a greeting. Their vibe was straight up rude and dismissive. We ordered beer & tater tots, which was way too salty. Rude service. Bad food. Too yt. Won't recommend to folks, especially poc, who haven't been here yet. Lame that the CD, historic African American neighborhood, has this white hipster place occupied.

Yelp
First of all, the price to quality ratio here is astounding. Best diamond in the rough bar in Seattle proper. My favorite food item (beside the specials, which are always amazing! Yum bacon green chili mac and cheese...) is the peanut butter and bacon burger subbing in a chicken breast instead. Now, you might think that's weird, and you can see how much I care as I revel in food glory. The drinks are stiff and happy hour is till 8pm ere'day. At the time of this writing its $3.75 wells. Oh, and I wish they could still allow dogs in here, but sadly they can't. Which sucks.
