On the Grid : Twisted Root Burger Co.

"Twisted Root Burger Co.'s brings you bad ass built-to-order burgers with attitude, and we wouldn't have it any other way. From a traditional beef burger to bison or even (kangaroo?), with any topping you could imagine, you'd be silly not to be here once a week for a burger fix. Don't miss the fried pickles, hot dogs, and for those who might need a little kick - the spiked milkshakes (Banana & Bailey's? Yes, please.) Ditch your current identity - you'll know your burger is ready when the kitchen yells out your celeb alter-ego for the day." - Reel FX

Google
Absolutely love this place. Every time I’m in town, I love to stop by here. Every time I’ve been, the workers have been friendly and seem like they genuinely enjoy their jobs. I’ve never had a bad burger here and I’m a big pickle fan so the pickle bar is a total plus. The way they plate their burgers is great and it makes the food look very appetizing (and it tastes just as good!!!). They were playing some major bops on whatever speaker system they had and once I was with my dad and they said whoever brought their dad’s wallet to the counter first got a free float and they stuck to their word. It was a very fun and engaging visit and me and my dad still joke about it to this day.

Google
Staying in Dallas for a day while on vacation. Wanted to try somewhere that was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and decided on this place. It did not disappoint. I had the Freshmen 15 amd some fries with a soft drink. The food was amazing (don't forget to try all of the pickles at the pickle bar) amd the atmosphere feels like a place that you want to hang out at. Not sure about the normal parking situation, but the road in front of the restaurant is under construction, so you have to park two lots down in a pay to park place. Maybe this is normal, I do not know for sure. Anyway, don't let that stop you from eating here as the food is worth it.

Google
The onion rings were lukewarm to cold, but the burger was actually quite good, the service was very good and attentive, I recommend this restaurant.

Google
This place is a dump. Sticky floors, dirty tables. I wiped down my own. Shoes were sticking to the floor. Ordered a millionaire burger with no bun. Salt, salt and more salt. Seems like there's a good tasting burger in there but it's hard to find under the well done over cooked burger covered in salt soaked mushrooms. The bacon the burger was less salty than the mushrooms. 730 pm on a Tuesday and it's dead. Me and one other couple (I'm here for work). I left all of my onion strings as they were just a pile of salt. Pic is what's left. There part of a burger under there but i spit it out. Place is gross and do not at all recommend.

Google
The food came out super fast! Loved the Gosh Jam it! My husband had the camel, and he said it was so good.

Google
I would definitely go back to try more. The fish blt was amazing, and the brisket frise was equally as delicious.

Google
Perfect burger. I got the classic with grilled onions and fries. I loved the burger but the fries and ranch were real standouts. The fries were fresh and seasoned to perfection, the ranch had a distinct pepper flavor that helps separate it’s flavor from a lot of other ranches I tried. Gotta say. If you are a burger fan and want a delicious meal, this is the place to go.

Google
They have pickles! Order at the counter and seat yourself. They have a good variety of burgers and shakes. Employees working the cash register and bar are amazing. Kinda loud atmosphere but fun place to hang before a concert. Big tex was good but needed more guacamole.

Yelp
The best burgers in town! They have a variety of options and charge cheaper than most for any add-ons. We dined-in during lunch and we got lucky before it began to flood with people. Their menus are available right when you enter and you typically have some time to look over the menu, just don't hold up the line. The last items we got were the All American Burger and the Classic along with an order of fries with their ranch. It was phenomenal! Their margaritas are giant which is worth the price. There are tons of booths/tables available if you would like to sit inside but they are pretty small if you go with a larger party. You do have to pay for parking as well unless you find another area and walk here. All in all, this is a must try!

Yelp
Nice spot for a variety of burgers My burger was juicy and good. You can choose your own pickles as well. Service was great the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The place is big and rusty very good for large groups or solo diners.

Yelp
Haven't been able to visit TWB for some time. It was a mixed experience coming back. The burger as usual was very good. Got the All American. The patty and bun were excellent. Had them hold the cheese. The bacon was not crispy enough and was pretty poor quality with way too much fat. On the mobile order, like other places, you do not get the full range of order options. They did not pick up the phone, so I had to mobile order rather than phone it in. Despite mobile ordering, I had to wait what seemed like 15-20 min in the lunch rush line to get to the register to pick up my order because they do not have a mobile order pick up area or line. At least I did not have to wait the additional 20-30 min they were quoting ppl to get their burger after they already waited in line. At least my mobile order was ready and I could leave without waiting more. Finally, street parking used to be free some time ago, maybe a long time. Now all the streets are metered and there are two paid lots. Consequently, cost me $14 for the burger, another $6 to wait 15 min to pick up my food, for a total of about $20 for a burger without table service, since they don't have any and it was to go anyway. It was about average noise level on this visit, but it can get quite loud in the past when they are busy. Overall, TRB has a great burger and it's worth a try. Just expect to pay a lot and wait a long time , especially during the lunch rush.

Yelp
Amazing flavors and selections of burgers. We made a stop after arriving in Dallas. Everyone in our party raved about the flavor and juiciness of the burgers. The southern western vibe was all we needed to kick off our trip. Can't wait to come back to the Twisted Root on our next visit.

Yelp
I was so torn about giving a 4 star. I wish they offered a 3.5. We came to visit a friend in Dallas and wanted a burger so he recommended this place. Let me start with the atmosphere. Nice feel. No tables for more than 4 people so we pulled to round high tops near each other to which a server passing though said sharply "don't block our path". Duh. We weren't born yesterday. We ordered a classic burger with cheese and the fried ride. The burger was ok. Nothing spectacular. The onion was perfect. Not to hot. We enjoyed everything on the fried ride. They give you one tiny ranch and one tiny chipotle ranch for a huge plate of fried food. You pay for any extra ranch. The chocolate shake was soooo good!! The staff. No one was friendly. We didn't hear them call our name. We were Sabrina Duncan. A lady behind the counter rudely said "are yall Sabrina Duncan". Yes we are and it's loud in here plus we are visiting with our friend. Cool your jets sis. Ugh. Why can't people treat you they way they would want to be treated. Will we come back? Probably not. I can be talked to in an unkind way for free and the burger was not that great.

Larry H.

Yelp
Both burgers were very good. Onions straws were great. We went on a night when it wasn't very busy but still took some time to get our food.

Lilith G.

Yelp
Ambiance was nice, the restaurant was cute! Not very busy but many tables and the restroom dirty. 2 stars for the pickle bar!! Pickles were delicious and the only good part of my dinner. I know a burger joint doesnt typically ace a vegetarian burger but this was absolutely disgusting.. Usually black bean burgers are formed actual patties.. What I got was a loose pile of mush what I can only describe as something like a sloppy joe. The Vegabond was inedible. The fried pickles were lack luster, the ranch was awful and runny, the honey mustard was abhorrent.
google avatar

Elizabeth A. H.

Yelp
They have pickles! Order at the counter and seat yourself. They have a good variety of burgers and shakes. Employees working the cash register and bar are amazing. Kinda loud atmosphere but fun place to hang before a concert. Big tex needed more guac. And we got tons of chipotle ranch even after we asked for only regular.
google avatar

Taylor G.

Yelp
Relaxed bar type vibe. I love the characters that are called when your food is ready. The staff was super helpful when deciding what to order and the food was great! The pickle bar is a nice touch and everything was very clean.

Yelp
Burgers are 1/2 lb cooked medium well unless you indicate otherwise. The buns... this really made the burger. They were soft and buttery. I really liked the burger. * Big Tex Burger - Juicy and flavorful. The housemade guacamole and ranch were yummy. I would add tomato next time. * The Classic - Delicious and truly a classic. I would've liked maybe one more tomato slice, but I doused it in ketchup anyway. Sides and stuff: * Hand-Punched Fries are double fried but some were still a bit soggy. They were fresh, hand-cut potatoes. They were good. * The housemade pickles were AMAZING and crunchy. Bread & Butter was sweet and the perfect topping for my burger. Dill was a classic sour. * Hand-crafted soda was carbonated and crisp. I had the root beer. Environment: * The decor fun to look at. Moderate noise but still quiet enough for an initimate conversation or a place to hang out. I like how they use pop culture names to associate orders. * The bathrooms are gender-neutral and inclusive. Pretty clean as well. * The staff is friendly and willing to help.

Yelp
The mushroom burger (added truffle aioli) was so juicy and delicious. The pickle bar was amazing. I tried them all except for the atomic but the other 4 flavors were crunchy, flavorful, and bottomless. Would love to visit again!

Yelp
Finally checking this place out with one of my Soldiers, got the Wild Boar Western burger with steamed veggies instead of fried! Shout out to Twisted Root Burger Co. for the Military/1st Responder discount! (Not too far from Dallas MEPS). Noticed the pickle bar after eating so was kind of sad but just means I gotta come soon!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not a big fast food junkie... although I love a good burger. I've been a Twisted Root Fan for years now but the location close to where I lived closed. Not your average burger joint because they have unique and exotic meats as well as your typical plain beef. Some meats that I've had are Camel, Ostrich, Bison, Elk, Emu, and TONIGHT I tried antelope... and it was AWESOME! Grab a real sugar soda or a cocktail, and if you're not into meat, grab a side or two and enjoy ENDLESS pickles! Dill, Sweet & Hot, Atomic, Ranch, and Bread & Butter! No, I didn't stutter...Pickles ARE Endless!!! The bathrooms are pretty fun, too. There is a hand washing sign you need to read... and I didn't take a pic, so you just have to go to read it. (Pick #8)

Yelp
The vegan burger and fries are amazing and taste delicious, The only downside is that It literally falls apart every time i get it. I eat the most that i can with the bun and eat the rest of the quinoa and beans with a spoon. It's still delicious. I love soggy fries and that is what i got. If you don't like vegan burgers falling apart and soggy fries, this isn't your place. If it is it's perfect. Had minimal service and didn't stay since it was a to go order

Yelp
Prompting lunch date with the girls and it was definitely worth the time and money. The associates were super friendly and helpful in what to order, my food was piping hot! And fresh and I absolutely loved my sandwich it was not too much! There are free pickles in many flavors so I got some and enjoyed it a little too much. The building was nice and clean and it wasn't too packed so my friends and I were able to enjoy each other
google avatar

Mackenzie C.

Yelp
We ordered our food to go through yelp and it was ready in about 20 minutes. We customized our burgers and got fried pickles as well as fries. The burgers were juicy and delicious, the bacon was cooked perfectly. The fried pickles were delicious however the ranch was an absolute no for me. I prefer a sweet ranch over a spicy one. Anywho, the fries were well seasoned and delicious. The root beer... also an absolute no wayyyy too sweet. Overall good burger and sides at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon before one of the football playoff games. Staff was less than enthusiastic to be there or to serve customers. It was as if customers were a bother when they wanted to order something. The burgers and onion straws were good as always and who doesn't love self serve free pickles! Maybe it was just an off day for the staff early on a Sunday. Will go back but likely just for take out.
google avatar

Zach C.

Yelp
One of the best burgers I've ever had !!!! They even have a self serve pickle bar with different flavor pickles. They also have a full bar. Fries are really good too. Highly recommend if you are in Dallas.
google avatar

Shane O.

Yelp
Best burger and shake I've ever had. The setting was nice and your ticket (name called when your order is ready) is a true flash back to the 80's. The soda machine has hand crafted drinks made with sugar. Excellent service, and as I said to begin, THE BEST BURGER AND SHAKE I'VE EVER HAD.
google avatar

Sally T.

Yelp
We'd really enjoyed our food and they gave my grandson a free shake for his 7th birthday! Friendly folks!
google avatar

Ricarta C.

Yelp
This place did not disappoint ! Great atmosphere, decor and delicious food !! I had the freshman burger and fries and the black cherry soda ... I left happy & full !!! I'll be back to visit Texas
google avatar

Chelsea B.

Yelp
Came here with some coworkers and was pleasantly surprised! They have a pickle bar with a variety of different flavored pickles and make their own bbq and ketchup. Their bbq sauce is a little sweet for my taste but the ketchup was incredible. They have a wide selection of meats you can get for a burger and their turkey burger did not disappoint. With fresh cut fries it was a great meal!

Shannon G.

Yelp
I love twisted root and I love the treat yourself fries. It used to come with this amazing ranch. They have changed their ranch. The new one has a sweetness that does NOt go with the fries at all. please bring back the old ranch. It was perfect. The all American was great but again I used to put some on my burger... but no more
google avatar

Becky A.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service & and a fun atmosphere! Don't miss ordering a shake to go with your burger and cheese fries! We will definitely return & want to try other locations as well!
google avatar

Carly C.

Yelp
I have to give this place a 5. I got the freshman15 burger and if it didn't fill me up I would order another one right away! I was skeptical that it would just be average but man I was wrong. I have no complaints. Fries are awesome! I would tell anyone to try it.
google avatar

Domonique S.

Yelp
The first time I went to twisted root it was amazing then recently I went back with my family and my words can't even explain how good the food was. The Employee's were very nice and let us take our time ordering and the burgers were wonderful and well done. They also have different flavored pickles they you can try their very good .
google avatar

Brad U.

Yelp
The food was great!! The service was like Chick Fil A. The eclectic atmosphere is part of the attraction. The only downside is the excessive fees now parking in Deep Ellum. And that was at lunch. $8 to park for lunch down there is a huge mark against the area. But once in a while it's nice to have a Buffalo burger. The house made root beer was delicious. Go only if you are prepared to pay the excessive parking fee.
google avatar

Skyy S.

Yelp
I stopped in here on a Friday night and had a great experience. When walking in, we were greeted by the host. I was able to order and got my name for the order. It was really cool that they give you celebrity names for each order. Another thing that they do is that they have different types of pickles to try once you sit down. For my burger, I got the western burger with American cheese. This is one the best burgers i have had so far in Dallas. It was so delicious and flavorful. I love coming here for the pickles and the burgers!

Marcus H.

Yelp
Quite literally the best burger I've had! My girlfriend and I had the millionaire burger. Food was over flowing the plate in the best way possible! With the plate being so busy the flavors came together excellently. We've been here for about a week and tried restaurants around the city every night or multiple times a day. The atmosphere is super cool and welcoming. Also it's be pretty cool if you order the burger of the month the proprietors donate to the local nursing programs.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
Fun, welcoming atmosphere, unique decor, amazing custard shakes and most importantly - superb, filling burgers. The Freshman 15 is a consistent crowd pleaser and the Big Tex was wonderful with the fresh guacamole and fried onion rings. The bbq root beer and chipotle ketchup sauces are also great, as well as the jalapeño ranch!
google avatar

Nathaniel P.

Yelp
I'm a fan of 10/10 I recommend! I love the consistency of the tenderness of the different burgers! I love how fast and personable the staff is at all times! The pickle bar and wall decor is always a conversation starter! I wish I could get my name and picture as one of the placeholders when someone orders food! "Nathaniel Palmer your food is ready has a ring to it"

Sharita J.

Yelp
The workers here were really nice and the bartender made the best drink it's a special drink that tastes like pink lemonade!
google avatar

Clarissa A.

Yelp
Food was 100%! Very tasty and came out pretty fast. Service wasn't very good, which is why I put a 4 star. She just seemed so bored to be there and didn't really care to help us.

Allan B.

Yelp
Great tasting burger and fries. My wife and went there on a lunch date after watching Grand daughter hockey game. Service was quick and serving size was good. The location in Carrollton seems to serve a younger generation but we did not feel out of place.
google avatar

Moriah D.

Yelp
If burgers are your thing, it's only right that you go to Twisted Root! Every burger is cooked to perfection and served hot and fresh. My favorite burger is the Gosh-Jam-It. It's a perfect mix of sweet from the bacon jam with the saltiness of goat cheese, and the spiciness of chipotle. It is literally sooooo good! The bread & butter pickles are also a must have! The margaritas are amazing! And so is the manager, Mike. He is always attentive and friendly to us and you can tell that his entire staff enjoys working with him and respects him. Great atmosphere in the heart of deep Ellum.
google avatar

Diego M.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service, and fun. Ordered the Big Tex Burger and a chocolate shake, completely devoured my meal and it really good bang for your buck! (my friend ordered the 'gosh jam it' do not order that burger it leaves a really strong taste in your mouth)
google avatar

Ahnyong Z.

Yelp
Food is good enough, no different from any other location. Service is painfully slow.
google avatar

Landis T.

Yelp
Hadn't been here in like 10 years, but remembered it was good. Forgot it was this good! The burger was juicy, even though it was a bit over cooked. Great flavor. Wish the bun was more toasted. Fries were great, hot, well-seasoned. Loved the pickle bar. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Joanna M.

Yelp
The decor is so fun and lots of thought was put into all the details! Fun environment, great food & perfect location in Deep Ellum. The burgers are tasty and have unique toppings. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area- great for all ages.
google avatar

Maria T.

Yelp
Super fun place, delicious food. The Ice T Iced Tea was hilarious. Lots of fun options, generous servings, vegetarian friendly.
google avatar

Phillip E. S.

Yelp
The barista at Merit Coffee suggested this place for America Cuisine. All I wanted was a tasty burger and fries. Thankfully, that's exactly what I got in The Western with their fresh-punched french fries. Even before ordering and eating my food, the staff behind the counter were super nice and extremely personable. If I'm ever in the area again, there won't be any hesitation to pick Twisted Root as the place to eat. Way to go!
google avatar

Randy T.

Yelp
Burger was very good but restaurant needs some more diligence when it comes to cleaning. Dirty condiment dispensers, empty salt and pepper, tables that stayed dirty for our whole visit. Needs a manager.
google avatar

Shannon W.

Yelp
The self serve pickles alone make me wanna come back every day. But the burgers are great too. I love the location in deep ellum as well as the one at the airport. You can't go wrong w a burger, 100000 pickles and 2000 beers.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
My sons and I went shopping in Dallas..specifically Deep Ellum. After shopping, we wanted something walkable as the car was still in paid parking so we ran over to Twisted Root. We knew they had GF burger buns and have had them in the past so we looked forward to it. This location was great! Fast service, super friendly folks and eager to help my son's diet needs. All of our burgers were great, the fries were nice and hot and seasoned and the music was happy and upbeat! We enjoyed our meal just in time to grab the car and head back to Fort Worth. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Clarice C.

Yelp
The food was good, my total was higher than I expected, almost $60 for 1 adult and 3 kids. We all enjoyed the pickle bar. I ordered a salad my kids ordered the kids chicken tender, a burger meal. For our table fried pickles and onion rings. I wish there wasn't an extra charge for ranch because each kid wanted ranch. But at almost $60 for our meal, $16 for parking, I was at my limit for spending.
google avatar

T L.

Yelp
Do not eat here if you aren't looking for the best burger in Deep Ellum and dont want to crave more. This burger was so good. I can not wait to return! I had the Lots-a-Shroom burger with twice cooked fries the best fries Ive had in a while. We also order the kale and cabbage salad and fried pickles. Everything was excellent and cooked to perfection. Shout to the cooks for preparing everything to perfection. Our server Day Day took great care of us. I still cant give 4 stars although they didnt have my burger of choice. I Will be back next week to try the Millionaire and the cheese fries.
google avatar

Leila Q.

Yelp
A beer & burger!? You can't go wrong ! This place has the best ice cold beer & delicious juicy mushroom burger! Atmosphere is amazing!!! Especially Von ! She's fricken awesome!

Sarah M.

Yelp
Love twisted root! We have noticed the quality going down over the years, but I know that happens to every restaurant. I'm still happy when I get to come and enjoy their food and wish them continued success .

Yelp
Rocky Balboa here giving my honest review of that crappy shoe leather of a burger I just paid $12.00 for with a side of soggy fries and cheddar on top. Rocky balboa was the fun name they gave me when I ordered and gave me my buzzer. I was hoping for the Ferris Bueller buzzer but rocky was fine. What was not fine was this burger. We have been here before but something has drastically changed here and needs to change back very quickly. Either your Sysco rep ripped you off and sent you a crappy $.85 patty or your manager is now ordering this $.85 crappy patty and he needs to go. One of these two things better happen or you will be out of business in two months. Either way this was by far the worst burger I have ever had. I almost wanted to tell people in line not to order as it was bad. The guy sitting behind me in his booth just kept looking strangely at his burger too as it is bad. It was way over cooked and just a piece of shoe leather put on a bun and served with a sliver of lettuce and half a smashed slice of tomato. I am not exaggerating, go try one (well no don't)...and you will see. Unless it is 1:39 am and you just stumbled out of the bar and crawled down the street to twisted root and find them open,,, keep crawling home and eat some leftover Ramen that has been sitting on the stove for A week.. it will be better than this burger we took three bites out of and left it at the table. Why risk your reputation on a crappy pre-made $.85 patty.?? The vendors do offer an upscale patty if you ask or what is wrong with getting fresh beef and actually making your own? I don't care I will NEVER be back to any twisted root after this fiasco of a visit. Not even Chuck Norris could make me eat one. I am sorry for this review and sorry I ate there even more but get your act together. You have a great location and HAD a great reputation and it will quickly be shot if you continue serving this crap. Don't eat here.. it was once good and now it is just a money trap for the late night munchies. The picture tells it all. We did highlight it a bit so you can see the details of this shoe leather. It's cut in half so you can see the details of this over well-done piece of junk meat. It makes me feel bad to know some cow gave his life to have it his precious meat be abused in such a way and served to a paying customer like this. Burger lovers,, Skip this one and save your gut and wallet. I hate writing reviews such as this. I also hate seeing a restaurant owner and manager try and take advantage of paying customers like this. This place was getting packed and all the meat looked the same. No Would say a thing but I assure you no one was happy with what was served today. Good luck rebuilding what you all once had. You lost me and probably many sober customers and a few not so sober customers too. Even beer googles can see thru this crappy piece of meat you are now serving. I am done.. straighten this out or shut the doors for good in two months as customers are smarter than you these day.
