The Best Dishes at Atlanta Restaurants in 2023 | Eater Atlanta

"To close out the year, Deborah VanTrece and Robert Butts at Twisted Soul gave me my top meal: flawless, delicious, and well seasoned — I still think about the black pepper grit dumplings." - Beth McKibben

Coronavirus Will Hit Black-Owned Businesses Much Harder - Eater

"To support her community and staff, VanTrece has launched a pay-what-you-can menu at Twisted Soul, thinking of the model as a fundraiser of sorts. 'This is a whole new pricing structure. You’re not pricing to pay the bills and pay the rent,' says VanTrece, whose landlord told her she wouldn’t have to pay a late fee on her rent, which is $10,000 a month. In addition to cashing in her credit card points for gift cards for her staff, she’s turned her restaurant into a hub where they can quickly grab necessities like a hot meal and toilet paper. It’s a service most of her team participates in. 'But then I have some that are just scared,' she says. 'They don’t want to come and I can’t blame them.'" - Angela Burke

As soon as I walked in, it was a friendly atmosphere we were greeted by Reina, and Valeria. Very family oriented environment. We were also greeted by the chef she was very polite and friendly thank you Lee for your awesome food. The owner Brenda was also very professional and friendly, thank you Brenda for your service. Great food especially your pulled pork and yuca fries. My kids loved the milkshakes.

Google
Delicious food! I’ve ordered the Vassar Noodle Bowl, the Pineapple Soul Smoothie, the BBQ Pulled Pork Banh Mi, and the BBQ Pulled Pork and Korean Grilled Tofu Steamed Buns. Everything was absolutely delicious, and my friends have tried other dishes and drinks they also loved. A big thank you to Twisted Soul for hosting at Tasty Tuesday at Vassar. I highly recommend them and can’t wait to try more dishes in the future! I recently ordered the Vassar Noodle Bowl. It was very delicious, warm, and comforting. I highly recommend!

Google
food is incredible (i got the coconut curry & thai iced tea), there are plenty of tables though the area is a bit small, so takeout was my best bet. still, the food is delicious & i’d definitely want to come back to try more from their menu

Google
SUCH good and flavorful food! Everything from the sauces to the fresh veggies to the perfect egg placed on top was so. good. Definitely recommend this place!

Google
I am a huge fan of their Empanadas and steamed buns! I love that they have vegan options which come in handy when we order out with friends with dietary restrictions. Only place around to get a malted banana milkshake which is out of this world. The owner is a great guy and will definitely take great care of you. Definitely give Twisted Soul a shot when you are in the Poughkeepsie Area!!

Google
This is by far some of the best food I’ve ever had! I ordered the Vassar Noodle Bowl and it was so full of flavor. I love the fusion of different styles to create a perfect blend of deliciousness. I also ordered a Bubble Thai Iced Coffee. It was perfect. I’ve heard a lot about this place and I’m so glad my wife and I decided to stop in. We’ll definitely come again

Google
Incredibly slow service. It wasn’t crowded and it took us 25 minutes to get our salad and noodles. The other customers all had long waits as well, despite there being many employees who weren’t doing anything or were working very slowly. The food itself was horrible. As a complete salad connoisseur, their flavorless American Beauty Salad was inedible. The Tofu Noodle Bowl was lacking both salt and flavor. We had to dispose of both of our meals.

Google
Tasty food! A little too pricey for the amount and a little too much fusion to be perfect at all the menu items, but overall good execution. For carry out we got lamb dumplings, a chicken empanada, a chicken curry rice bowl, and pork belly steam buns. Everything was pleasant (pork buns were the favorite) though for $50 for 2 people we weren’t exactly full. The building space is set up well for a college-style restaurant with an emphasis on carry out. Would get again.

Yelp
A cute little fast casual spot with an array of food options. We got the Braised pork belly rice bowl and the fried chicken curry noddle bowl as well as pulled pork bao buns to go. Seating inside is very limited the employees are friendly. The noodle bowl was very good but a little small but the curry wasn't too spicy and had a nice coconut cream relief. The braised porky belly rice bowl was a nice portion but the sauce was a little over bearing. Could've used a little more of the nuts to give it a better texture. The bao buns were very good. Nice fluffy warm buns and packed with the pulled pork. We also got the Thai tea and lavender lemonade. Lemonade was amazing it had chia seeds in it. The Thai tea was okay. It was way too creamy to the point it was white and I couldn't really taste the tea that much. I'm not from the area but if I ever came back maybe I would try something different from the menu

Yelp
The "food concepts" at twisted soul are fresh and ambitious. Vassar students really seem to enjoy the international flavors offered here, as it's a good alternative to the bland food you find in the dining halls and elsewhere around town. I particularly enjoyed the Vassar noodle bowl, which featured chewy noodles in a coconut milk curry sauce (allegedly Malaysian, more Malaysian "inspired") with BBQ pulled pork on top!! I would never have thought to combine these two ingredients, but they work beautifully together. It's a very warm and comforting dish, and the mint, cilantro, and radish garnish helps provide a bit of contrast. I liked the sour cream drizzle on top, too. I feel like this dish could really be fantastic if they adjusted the thickness and amount of curry sauce (the noodles are swimming in it like a soup) and provided more herbs and radishes on top. It could also benefit from a crispy topping to provide textural contrast. I've had other things from here that I've liked, but that weren't anything special. Like the Malaysian curry, their chicken tikka masala sauce also has a very runny texture, instead of the thicker richer sauces I've had elsewhere. And their bao buns are honestly not worth buying, since they have no hoisin sauce or creamy aioli/slaw element that binds together the rather dry meat, pickle slices, and scallions in each bun. They seem to exclusively be a grab and go kind of place, which makes sense to me as it's in a college town. Inside it's small and rather bleak, without any kind of decoration and not much seating. They take a pretty long time to prepare orders too, so plan ahead in case you're in a hurry.

Pat O.

Yelp
They've been around for years. Their menu reads like a mini food mall with their empanadas, arepas, dumplings, buns, bobas, and more. They are not necessarily the best you'll ever have for the dishes, but they are always quite good and especially convenient for when everyone wants something different. Just plan extra time around lunch and dinner - demand from Vassar students will often overwhelm staff and a 10 minute order might take 25.

Yelp
I really am a fan of this shop. They put flavors together in an inspired way. Generally speaking I like classic cooking but I like their blends. My favorites are the Vassar noodle bowl and twisted Mac with pulled pork.

Yelp
Walking distance from Vassar and also a small parking lot in the back. Only one table with 3 chairs available, so aim for take out. We had the curry with noodles and grilled chicken which was filling and exactly as such, the pork dumplings which came with rice so it ended up being a decent meal in itself, the chicken empanada which tasted like there was cheese inside, and the tofu bahn mi, which had fresh ingredients but wasn't very much a bahn mi. In particular I didn't like the sweet bbq sauce that they used with the tofu in the sandwich. Ingredients are fresh, and has an assorted menu.

Yelp
So good. A little pricey but the flavors are amazing. We loved the curry noodles! They are not spicy at all. Small little spot but filled with goodness

Yelp
Twisted Soul was my HOLY GRAIL for my sweet sixteenth birthday party!!! If you're considering hiring them for an event, do it now! I wish I could give this business infinite stars! I don't even know where to begin with this wonderful group of people. The owner Brenda worked incredibly close with us the entire time despite being booked with many other events, and she was so flexible and easy to work with as we figured out what we wanted! She was my literal lifeline throughout this whole process. Twisted Soul's prices are extremely good for how many amenities they offer and their service was tremendous as they provided me with an extensive guide to look into every aspect of my food and the overall ambience that I wanted for my big day! She helped my family make a timeline and there were even employees there discreetly helping and giving out food at the stations and whatnot so I wouldn't have to worry about anything! I had no idea before this event how much food really plays into what people remember and their mood during the event. Brenda did so much wonderful work for our family helping us tour our venue and even coming in early to set up and even change things to make every little detail the most perfect it could be! The food was amazing!!!! She knew exactly what kids wanted and when and even went along with my tastes! We had a taco and pasta bar and a milkshake stand and chocolate fountain and it was all just so amazing. She even set up a fancy cocktail hour when people were arriving of some little French baguettes and fruit to go with my Beauty and the Beast Disney theme! If I ever had to plan another one of these big parties, Twisted Soul would be the first business I would look to book, both as a catering service and amazing guide!!! People still rave to this day talking about how much fun they had at my birthday party and none of it would have been possible if I wouldn't have hired Brenda and Twisted Soul!!!

Yelp
The food has always been amazing here. I've been coming here for years but miss the old twisted soul so much! There's no cozy seating anymore or even a bathroom! They used to provide reusable silverware and offer you a water carafe and glasses for your table but no longer. Tons of plastic use with disposable plastic silverware and plastic non compostable containers. It's become a quick to go service counter with just two small tables by the door so if you decide to stay and eat you will be freezing the whole time. It's no longer a nice place to sit and have lunch, definitely recommend only getting take out from here on out! That being said I always recommend the baos and empanadas.

Yelp
Sad to say I will never go here again! They heat up the empanadas in the microwave and the girl who took the order tried to hide the fact they were taking it out of the fridge and microwaving from me! I thought they were taking out something else from the fridge!!! When I walked out and went to eat them in the car, they were super soggy, covered in oil from being over nuked in the microwave and NOT Edible from being so hot and the grease was dripping everywhere. I brought them right back in uneaten and asked for a refund and they gave me attitude and told me I needed to relax..when they had the audacity to call that an empanada and charge over $8 for something that is not presented the way any other empanada I have eaten anywhere else has ever been prepared & presented. I know how the owner use to serve these and this was not it-- I use to frequent this place when I had my business across the street and ordered empanadas almost every day from here. Sadly, the quality of food and service has gone down hill since 2021. I should give lesser stars but I'm not sure if the owner is aware the staff is being lazy and nuking these. Other restaurants that make empanadas always have a hot food warmer to keep them warm, crisp and on display; I don't know why Twisted Soul isn't doing this for their empanadas. The staffer told me it was the same owner as back then but I find it very hard to believe she would choose to refrigerate the empanadas and microwave them, serving greasy, soggy product to their customers.

Yelp
First off! This menu is the most interesting menu I have read in awhile. So many different cuisines but it all works. A friend I was visiting in Poughkeepsie suggested this place so we ordered lunch to be delivered. She got the Braised Pork Belly Rice Bowl. She loved it! I got the Bibimbap Korean Style Rice Dish and a beef empanada just to try. The bibimbap was very tasty. The egg on top of it traveled very well. I can't believe it got to me so nice, still runny, it even just looked pretty. Almost fake it was so pretty. The tofu was pan fried, slightly firm and not falling apart. The spicy Korean sauce it came with was delicious and made the dish. I wish I lived closer so I could order this all of the time. The empanada was good but I would like to order a different appetizer to try.

Yelp
Years later and this place is STILL at the very top of my favorites list. You can't go wrong here and I love to support this local business! I can only speak to the vegetarian dishes but none have disappointed. The Argentinian empanadas are delicious- I especially love the corn and goat cheese variety with the most aaaammmaazing chimichurri sauce. I dream of this sauce people. We love the thickness of the Malaysian coconut curry over a jasmine rice bowl, too. The chickpea fries are a MUST try, absolutely crispy salty perfectness. Mac and cheese (without protein) was also decadent and filling, but a very tiny portion for $6. That brings me to the point of price; Twisted is certainly on the pricier side for smaller portions. HOWEVER, the food here is very fresh tasting and flavorful and is unlike anything you can get locally. It is worth it every time!! They also have a lot of cool drink options. I am not incredibly impressed with their bubble tea options (a little on the unmixed/chalky side when I've tried) but I do really enjoy the lemonades with basil seeds- very unique and refreshing. Run don't walk here people!!

Yelp
We decided to order some Twisted Soul because my fiancé was craving the pork belly buns. I decided I'd try something new this time. I ended up getting the pork belly rice bowl and WOW, so good! The first thing I tasted was the delicious sauce. There were so many different textures and the pork belly was plentiful and tender. On my last visit, I felt like the portion was pricy. This time around, I was stuffed and didn't think the price was bad for what you got. I received a lot of food. I also picked up a taro bubble tea because it's been a while and who doesn't like bubble tea? It was perfect and comes in one size. I was very pleased with this visit. Such amazing flavors and pleasing to the eye as well.

Yelp
Twisted Soul is a great way to mix up your meals. It has a large array of options that can fulfill whatever you may be craving! Even so, their staff isn't always particularly hospitable and often leave you feeling rushed or worried. Several times I have ordered something and was unsure if my order was taken properly. Their boba may be overly sweet and in some cases lacks a bit of flavor. I often leave this place feeling a bit disappointed, but appreciate what it brings to the community!

Yelp
Stopped by this place after seeing a write-up in the Hudson valley magazine about places to have good dumplings. They do have quite a menu to navigate from rice bowls to steam buns to the dumplings to noodle bowls to all sorts of twisted teas (liquor to get it spiked) and some really good lemonade options I got the one with Ginger and I got one to go as well. My review is solely about the dumplings. to be clear these aren't northern Chinese style dumplings with the soup in the middle but there more like the Mandu Dial Korean dumplings which don't have the soup and are a little more dense. I tried the vegetarian, chicken and pork. But vegetarian dumplings were more of a bean paste type filling which was pretty good and the dumplings were layered on hot fresh jasmine rice garnished with chopped scallions. The chicken dumplings were accented with ginger which made them pop and the pork dumplings flavorful. They were accompanied with three different types of sauces that ranged from hot to sweet n sour to a type oil herb concoction; very different from what I've had in traditional dim sum houses which made it stand out. I did have the chicken empanada which came out hot and fresh, I suspect they are Argentinian style so they are not deep fried like you would get at a Dominican or Puerto Rican style restaurant. A lot more delicate and textured as well. We did split the pulled pork banh mi and I have to admit I was a little let down at the quality of the baguette; generally speaking I'm used to having a fresh baked baguette with a little bit of crunch and this one had a substantial crust on it but the pulled pork and the filling more than made up for it. I would say this had a very cozy ambiance, plenty of seating, a very high rate of turnover but what really won me over was the customer service and how friendly the staff was. Those girls were quite engaging and expedient; If you're the boss of this place and you're reading this review throw those girls a couple of extra bucks at the end of the week.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for our lil monthsary and even though they were only serving to go orders, the staff was so nice and there was no wait. There was a seating area just to the right of the place and when I tell you the food here is phenomenal-- omg. I forgot to picture my hibiscus tea and his vegan ice cream cookie but those were also amazing. We traveled from far to try this place out and it did not miss. Def plan on returning here for a future monthsary. In photo: Fried Chicken Noodle Bowl with Glass Noodles // Chicken Tikka Masala Mac&Cheese (both were EXTREMELY bussin )

Yelp
I have NEVER waited so long for a drink that entailed pouring some ice, some green tea & a scoop of boba into a freaking cup. I once waited over 25 minutes- and watched while no one worked on drink orders for that long- & waited another time for 15 minutes when I was the only person in the place & there were no other orders to be filled. Ridiculous. Not worth it.

Yelp
I came to Twisted Soul after seeing pictures of their food on Instagram which all looked great. When we arrived it was difficult to find, this was due to Twisted Soul still being closed to the to the public in July of 2022... The door is shut and you order by pressing a doorbell and speaking with them through a slit in the door. The odd part is they may claim this is due to covid, but staff inside are not wearing masks, or gloves... it seems like an excuse to just not offer their customers seating, or bathrooms. This was very off-putting to me. We decided to order an array of food, from rice bowls to dumplings and bubble tea. All of the food was good, and very enjoyable. The major downfall is the seating, which is on the sidewalk in the heart of Poughkeepsie. They don't put out enough chairs so people are sitting on the tables with their dirty feet on them! We had to stand for a while waiting for another table to leave so we could grab two chairs and sit. My last complaint was one I witnessed while eating our food. A table of 4 which ordered a ton of food asked Twisted Soul employees for a cup of water. Their response was, we don't give out water, we can sell you a bottle. That is so ridiculous... they easily spent $80+ at their table and you cannot even give a cup of water to them? If you dined in, you would provide water without issue! Overall, great food but very poor atmosphere. If they opened their doors, provided bathrooms and water to customers I would have easily gave 4 stars.

Gillian R.

Yelp
Food was decent, but I didn't realize it was more of a takeout restaurant than a sit down restaurant. I got the fried chicken bun. It was a little bland the empanada was better.
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
I ordered via DoorDash & got the Fried Chicken Noodle Bowl (with udon), the Chicken & Beef Empanadas, the Pork Belly Baos and the Yuzu Lemonade. Highly recommend the Empanadas & Baos! They are baked so they are not too greasy, but still have delicious flavor on the inside. The chimichurri sauce on the side is a perfect pairing as it adds freshness & zest. The pork belly baos were what we expected. The outside buns were soft & fluffy while the braised pork belly melted in our mouths as we ate them. ALSO, try out the Yuzu Lemonade! It's super refreshing & it's not too sweet. It comes with sago which is similar to tapioca but they are a lot smaller. The only disappointment for me was the noodle bowl. It was too soupy for me, I expected it to be a little thicker as it is supposed to be a curry sauce. The flavor of the sauce is just okay, it's sweet with a little heat. The fried chicken was still crispy when the delivery arrived so that's a plus! I do think they food is a bit more expensive than other restaurants in this area but I believe it's worth trying out! This place is unique & reminds me of restaurants that you would see in the city.

Yelp
First time getting takeout from here last night, and we have mixed feelings. The food was good overall but the wait time and service were unacceptable. My husband called in the order at 6:40 and was told it would be ready in 35 minutes. He texted me at 7:30 to say that he was still waiting, and had no idea how long it was going to be because the woman working there gave no indication, she just said that my fried chicken was taking a bit longer. So I called and asked and I was told that it would be about five more minutes. I asked the woman if there would be anything taken off the check or anything thrown in and she replied with a very curt "no." At 7:50, the food was finally ready so that 35 minute estimate was pretty much doubled. Husband said that the woman just handed him the bag of food and walked away. Based on the service, I absolutely would not return. I understand if it's a busy night, things happen, but your attitude makes a lot of difference. If she was apologetic, my feelings would probably be different. My Malaysian curry noodles with fried chicken was good. Flavor was nice, but I can't believe the order was held up because of a thin fried chicken cutlet. My son's chicken empanada was fine, the pastry was very nice and the filling was OK, not super flavorful or interesting. My husband's pulled pork mac & cheese was outstanding. The steamed pork belly dumplings were inconsistent. Some had no sauce and the meat was bland and others had more sauce and were more flavorful. The only other complaint is that everything was already dressed with herbs and cucumbers which suffered as they wilted and were not pleasant to eat hot. They should have been put in separate containers for adding at home. Overall the food was good, not great, and suffered because of the service. I also felt like everything was a bit overpriced for what we got. We had tried the pastry shop across the street a few months ago and thought the pastries were really outstanding so we would go back there again. But it's doubtful we will go to this restaurant anytime soon. Customer service is important and made all the difference last night, in a bad way. ** update 2/23. The owner reached out via private message as well and gave us a refund for a half our order, which really says to me a lot about the character of the owners. I understand it was a busy night and we all have bad days and we certainly appreciate this gesture and will patronize in the future. Overall we really did enjoy the food but the wait time definitely impacted my review so we will try them again in the future during a less busy time.

Yelp
Great food! The dumplings and lavender lemonade (pictured) are my absolute favorite go-to's. I also highly recommend the Korean Bibimbap with pork belly, it comes served with delicious Kimchi. The service is great, everyone is very friendly. Highly recommend checking out this place, it's one of my favorites in Poughkeepsie.

Yelp
Super excited to say that this little place on Raymond is small bites with BIG flavor!! From the blue ginger lemonade or lavender lemonade to the lumpia...This little place hold a special place in my gut..lol!! Check the place out if you aren't hungry hungry, just hungry...it's sure to satisfy your craving.

Yelp
Amazing food, some of the best in Poughkeepsie actually.....but they are closed so often, even on days when they are supposed to be open. Closed sundays and Tues and occasionally Weds too. Sometimes it's a clean sweep with sun, mon, Tues and Weds closed. I'm not sure how this works as a business model but they are always busy. Try and call in an order?..no answer, even when open...or they may just be closed that day ...who knows.... but when it's open and you catch a slow window, you can order food and get it within 25-30 mins. Regardless...still of the best food

Yelp
Date night with my son and figured we would try a new place. The place is super small only 2 seats. The service was fine. We made a mistake and ordered one for their noodle bowls. Just thinking about it and I'm gagging. The mix of pulled pork, peanuts, mint and what ever else was in there, has definitely a lasting effect on my son and I. It's a hard NO for us

Yelp
I was visiting my friend at Vassar when she suggested this neat place to get dinner. She insisted that I try the Vassar Noodle Bowl and it was DELICIOUS. The curry sauce and pulled pork in the bowl was absolutely amazing. If you enjoy Asian food and trying something new, I would definitely recommend getting this. I also tried the lavender lemonade with basil seeds, which seems to be one of their specialties, and I loved it!! The flavor has a great balance and I had never tried basil seeds before in a drink, but it was surprisingly delicious. The seeds have almost a slimy coating and adds an interesting texture that I really enjoyed. However, some of my friends didn't enjoy that slimy feeling and preferred the drink without them, so that's something to keep in mind. Overall, I was incredibly satisfied with the food and service here and I look forward to coming when I visit again!

Yelp
This place has way more than bubble tea, but this was the only thing I got here. Was hoping to get a cupcake, too but they didn't have any that day. They won a local contest for these apparently. Great location as it is in the downtown area near Vassar. Super nice staff. The restaurant is a bit small, but maybe par for the course in the area. I really enjoyed my mango Jasmine bubble tea. It had a great flavor and was refreshing. Could have used more boba, but it was ok.

Yelp
I just went here for lunch and boy was I unimpressed. First of all, the menu is so confusing. It goes from Latin flare to Thai to Japanese, then after all of that you can get chicken tikka masala mac and cheese. There are way to many things to pick from across a lot of cuisines, it must be impossible to master the flavors of all (and my assumption is correct). I got the bimbimbap and it tasted like something you would get at a super market. The 'homemade sauce' tasted nothing like it should be and the flavors were just not there. I also had the empanadas which were equally as bad. My coworker had the mac and cheese and also shared the same discomfort that they went and got something from another place after having a few bites. My suggestion is to shorten the menu and really work on making food that is worth eating. If you want to make latin, great stop making dumplings. If you want Asian, cool stop making Arepas. Whatever you do just don't keep doing what you're doing.

Yelp
Ordered Twisted Soul Delivery through Grubhub with a couple of friends on a Friday night. The process was pretty easy and it was delivered in about 30 minutes. I got the Fried Chicken Noodle Bowl with Sweet Potato Noodle. The chicken was very nicely fried and the batter was delicious. I didn't quite like the sweet potato noodles with the dish. I think the regular noodles would have paired more appropriately with the curry sauce. Overall, 3.5/5 stars rounded up for the speedy and nice delivery.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
Food itself wasn't bad, the amount of time that it took waiting for the food was bad. I ordered two different things and I swear it took about 30-45 minutes to wait for it. The food was pretty decent, I think I'd appreciate it more if I was vegan or something. The drinks are amazing though! A bit expensive place.
google avatar

Yelp
I haven't tried their food yet but their cupcakes are to die for! I happened to be shopping next door and a friend told me about their cupcakes so we stopped in. I couldn't get over the selection of deliciousness! It was hard to choose just a couple so I brought home 6 of them on the pretense that I could share! So I shared a little, but mostly they were mine and they're amazing! The next time I was in the area I stopped in for more! Will definitely have to try their food soon!

Yelp
Great place for Asian fusion food! Amazing staff and a great variety of foods to choose from. Got a beef empanada, the presentation is simple and fabulous with the chimichurri sauce on the side in a bottle. Also got the fried chicken noodle bowl which was very good as well and reminded me of something similar I'd have at home, just wish there was a little more spice/zing to the sauce. Got the hibiscus vodka drink which was light and refreshing. Overall, this is a must visit place for anyone in the area.

Yelp
Lost a point for price (I'm looking at you $3 lemonade). Service is excellent, friendly, and fast(ish). Everything is made fresh, so you have to allow for the laws of physics. I am working my way through the menu but so far the Asian salad is my favorite. My pharmacy manager loved the dumplings. The lavender lemonade with basil seeds is super tasty and still tastes good if diluted with water (I do 1/2&1/2 but the flavor holds even at 1/3&2/3) but I usually just drink it as made. For a daily lunch, I need something about 10-15% less expensive but the prices are perfect for my portion control. ... UPDATE: I finally got across the street to TS's soup and sandwich counter...DELICIOUS!!!!!! And much more price appropriate for me.

Yelp
I had a great experience at Twisted Soul today! During COVID-19, they ask customers to call orders in, but the friendliest crew member noticed us outside reading the menu and was so kind to come out and take our orders (socially distanced with masks, of course). They said the order would take 15 minutes and was ready exactly on time. I had the almond milk bubble tea, which did not disappoint, and the Korean Tofu Steamed Buns. The flavor was different than what I expected, but the spice level was perfect, and the portion size was perfect too - not overly stuffed and I didn't go hungry. I also stan because they have a decent number of vegan and vegetarian options, YES! I would love to try other food items, and I'll definitely be back for more bubble tea! Support local businesses!

Yelp
The BBQ pulled pork mac and cheese is INSANE and so are the pork buns!! I'm so happy there is a place near me that has pork buns because the only other place I know of that makes them is in Uptown Kingston. The only reason I'm not rating 5 stars is because I feel the prices are pretty high. I easily spend over $30 on a meal for myself. The service is great and the food is phenomenal, but the prices are a little much.

Yelp
Tiny little hole in the wall producing some unexpectedly good bites. The empanadas were fine; wish I'd have had the time and appetite to sample the arepas. The Vassar Noodle Bowl was so good - the sauce was silky, spicy, and cooling all at once. There's like 5 tables with about 12 seats inside, so unless you don't mind eating at one of the three tables on the sidewalk, it's very likely that you'll have to carry your food home. I'll risk it; the sidewalk was fine.

Yelp
I thought I would love this place based on the interesting menu and the reviews. But my experience wasn't very good. I tried: - Goat Cheese Empanada: not much goat cheese and not much flavor overall. - Fried Chicken Curry bowl: the fried chicken itself was terrific. But the curry was too watery and detracted from the overall bowl. - Boba tea: pretty bad boba tea with stale boba. I was in there before lunch rush and it was still very slow to get food. I wouldn't come here if you are hoping to squeeze in a quick lunch.

Yelp
The service was slow despite ordering ahead and the food were probably decent at the best. Wasn't too sure why this place is rated so highly when the food portion are small, tasted below average and overpriced. Had 3 empanadas for $8 and the braised pork belly rice bowl which is way too sweet and priced at $13.25 for a small portion. I barley found enough mango or crispy onion on the rice. They used the topping very sparsely. The best thing we probably had were the smoothie and the peach milk bubble tea. Are milk bubble tea suppose to have half a cup of ice in it? Probably not, but it is what it is. This whole meal altogether including the drinks($8.70) costed $32.38. Definitely wasn't worth it and their twist on Asian cuisine isn't working.

Yelp
I meant to eat at that establishment for a few years now , but I never was able to make it during their open hours. It is a very basic concept: you order at the register and they bring your food to you at your table. There aren't many tables lined up against the wall on the hallway. It is a very intimate place to eat and have a conversation with people at your table. I ordered a Ethiopian BBQ grilled tofu rice bowl with a ginger lemonade (with had Chia seeds in it Yum!) My food and drink were served very quickly to my table and they were both good. A waitress bought a carafe of water and glasses to our table. The food choices are eclectic , it's a fusion between various cuisines combined to make a tasteful dish. They have a vaste choice for boba tea , a few mixed cocktails, and a cupcakes selection. I liked the food and the ambiance. I will go back and try something else on their menu!!

Yelp
They had me at bubble tea...that would have been enough. But they offer up a Thai tea with the tapioca bobas?!! Be still my beating heart! The boba seem to be soaked in maple syrup ...which adds a lovely taste to it all. Caution: for those who have been to Thailand and are craving the lovely orange Thai tea- this isn't that... sigh yet it's still quite lovely! Now for the salads...I'm in love with them! Especially the Twisted Soul and Indian salads. That's what I find myself going back there AGAIN AND AGAIN craving!

Yelp
I was one of the first customers when it first opened up on Main St. I literally remember talking to the owner and saying the place was great , I mean the food was fantastic but, would prob do way better over by Vassar. Bad idea I guess cause last couple times I went I had to stand on a line. lol. Definitely recommend Twisted Soul, the empanadas are great, dumplings are great. Salads and bowls are awesome. Nice, fresh, clean, delicious, gives you the good full feeling. You know what I mean.

Yelp
BEST gluten free cupcakes! Soft, moist and flavorful. Love the fresh icing and toppings, such as fruit or chocolate. Also the glop of dulce de leche is heavenly. Love the gluten free sweet potato Naughty Noodles, so tasty and spicy. Wonderful unique flavors with all the food.

Yelp
Had lunch here today for a first time. Very interesting concept for the menu, had a little bit of everything influencing there food. You can get anything from a dumpling to an empenada, My kind of place! I ordered the vegetable dumplings, and they were pretty tasty. They came with a small portion of rice on the side so the star of this dish was undeniably the dumpling its self. They we're streamlining fresh, and we're very tasty. Steaming hot, and just what my tummy needed on a cold rainy day. Would definitely recommend everyone give it a try.

Yelp
Tasty but I could have eaten two of the Twisted Soul Salads. Next time I will try an empanada on the side. Looking forward to visiting again.

Yelp
Finally got to go there : recommended by someone who said it was worth the 20+ mile drive from home. They said it was a "Tangle of tastes". I was not disappointed. Parking in the lot next door made it a quick & easy visit instead of the usual Raymond Avenue hassle of looking for a spot. Be prepared to take a few minutes to look at the menu for that "just right" item that will tickle your palette. The choices are numerous & will easily fill the bill with whatever your taste buds are in the mood for. All the items are all prepared with fresh ingredients, whether you want a light lunch or a fill-me-up-dinner. NOT a place to go if you are in a hurry or want a greasy burger & greasier fries. It's a place to relax & enjoy the multitude of tasty dishes. It was fun. I WILL be back. P.S. Their bakery, right across the street, has all kinds of delicious take-me-home treats. Stop in - even if you just want to look.

Yelp
Well visiting the charming town of Poughkeepsie New York I stopped by this place and had an excellent meal! The Asian/Latino fusion was absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the pulled pork arepas, The Korean inspired wings, the chicken Filipino adobo steamed buns and all of it was amazing

They always have amazing food! I enjoyed each meal from here, including their amazing arepas, dumplings, lemonades, milkshakes, wings, rice and noodle bowls, and much more!

Yelp
Twisted Soul has some of the best fusion food in the Hudson valley! It's right off Raymond Avenue near Vassar college so the vibe is youthful and hip. The decor is nice, they have local artist artwork on display and in the back display some family photos which gives it some personal touch. The restaurant is pretty narrow so you're close to other parties but it's nice. The food is wonderful, I would describe it as South American Asian fusion street food. My personal faves are the slow BBQ pork steam buns which are topped with pickled cucumbers and the BBQ pulled pork Colombian style arepas. And all the different arepas are gluten free which was s a major bonus. I've also had the rice bowls, Mac and cheeses and noodles bowls which are all tasty as well. Fried plantains are just as good as your own abuela's. Lastly they have a nice beverage menu. The have bubble teas, milkshakes, Thai drinks, fresh fruit smoothies, power smoothies, signature drinks, alcoholic drinks and street drinks. My personal favorite is pineapple mango ginger smoothie. And they have a wide variety of cupcakes to finish you're meal off great. If you are looking for a nice bite to eat, a full meal, catering or take out for an affordable price this is your place! One of the best fusion places in Poughkeepsie.

Yelp
Food is good but it's time to start coming back from the pandemic already. NYS restaurants are permitted to resume indoor dining at 100% capacity but apparently Twisted Soul didn't get the memo. They won't even let you in the door to pick up take out. You have to stand in front of the place until they bring your food out. I can understand enforcing safeguards. But it's time to join the rest of society again.

Yelp
Very trendy place in the Vassar college strip of restaurants. Kind of a tight space if you plan on dining in and can get uncomfortably crowded during a rush so don't have your heart set on eating there. My favorite menu item remains to be the fried chicken noodle bowl with the peanut flavored sauce. However the flavor notes are sometimes a hit or miss. Another item I like is the sticky rice. Not too fond of some of the other items especially since I am not a pork eater but I would still come back for the 2 afore mentioned items alone. Also not a place for big portions, so definitely more of a lunch place for those of us more substantial eaters. Yummy drink selections featuring twisted lemonades, teas, bubble teas and smoothies. Definitely a good choice for lunch! and if I am in that Vassar strip area, Twisted Soul would be my top choice. P.S. No one should be expecting waiter service here, the people working here really don't get paid for that lol - If you eat in, someone will bring you your plate but they are not waiters or waitresses and won't be back to ask you if everything is okay. But that does not take anything away from the place, personally.
