A Cafe Called Twisted Waffles Is Coming to the Lower Garden District | Eater New Orleans

"I spotted a breakfast-and-lunch café called Twisted Waffles opening soon in the Lower Garden District at 1420 Annunciation Street, directly next to post-college apartment destination The Saulet. An occupational business license issued to Jennifer Matthews this month lists it as a “standing coffee/safe shop,” and an alcohol permit filed in February is pending. The shop confidently bills itself on its website as “everyone’s favorite cafe in New Orleans,” putting a “new twist” on breakfast and lunch; the massive menu features brunch-like items such as creole grits and chicken and waffles, customizable “waffle bowls” and “wafflewichs,” six specialty waffles plus a few traditional breakfast options, and lunch offerings that include customizable burgers, a varied list of sandwiches and salads (club, BLT and even a Caprese waffle), or larger plates like crab or salmon cakes. Hours listed online are Monday–Saturday 6 a.m.–8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and a Kermit the Frog countdown meme posted on its Facebook page last night suggests the opening is imminent, though messages to them have so far gone unreturned." - Clair Lorell

Our family stayed at Holiday Inn French Quarter-Chateau Lemoyne and were given a $15 voucher to Twisted Waffle. We went in knowing it was an overpriced tourist place, but it's connected to the hotel and convenient. We initially tried to eat there the night we checked in, but they closed earlier than the hours posted on google. We ended up eating breakfast there the next morning. While the atmosphere is nice and the food was tasty, we were displeased with the service. There were only 4 seated tables, so they were not overly busy and it took an incredibly long time to get our food. We literally saw our server 3 times. She took our order, delivered our food, and brought an electronic device for us to check out on. Someone else brought our drinks and my daughter never even received the cranberry juice she ordered. We were not given an itemized bill and the device to pay was left at our table already pulled up to card payment, however the price did not seem correct and I thought maybe the server had forgotten to apply our voucher. I was shocked to see a $15 "fee" added. I flagged a server and questioned the "fee" and I was told it was taxes and tip. I pointed out that taxes were itemized on another line. She then said it's the gratuity because people weren't tipping them. So gratuity is included, fine. I proceed back to pay and the electronic device prompted me to tip again. So these folks aren't telling you they're adding gratuity then requesting it after it's already added. They're double dipping. I did not leave extra since they were already charging (I think it was 20%). Good tips come from good service. My husband and I have both worked in food service and we tip well, however we absolutely will not tip more than 20 percent for subpar service. If they aren't getting tips it's because the service like we received is poor. Due to dishonest practices like this, I would not recommend Twisted Waffle. The food was good, but it's wasn’t worth what we ended up paying (almost $70 for two adults and a child).

I went for breakfast on a Sunday and it was fairly busy. I didn't wait to be seated but the people who were coming in after did. I tried a strawberry waffle with chicken and I did enjoy it. My favorite was the beignets. I would say what I had was worth the price.

Great food, amazing service! Stopped in for breakfast and was blown away with the waffle combinations/options, definitely bring your appetite and imagination. The waffles were perfectly cooked, and the flavors are delicious! The drinks are really good too, and the service is above and beyond! I came with a group and our server was very patient and extremely helpful and was able to accommodate various requests!

While visiting New Orleans, we were recommended to try Twisted Waffle by a friend and we had a great experience! Everything was so good! I only had the breakfast sampler since we were about to travel (which was very tasty btw) and didn’t want anything too heavy but the variety of options others in our party had looked delicious and was told to come again and try other menu items. The waiter was so nice and attentive and management was present and made sure we had everything we needed! We will definitely return the next time we visit the city!

Actually the best waffle I've ever had. My partner and I shared a strawberry shortcake waffle, I was expecting it to be obnoxiously sweet or something but it was PERFECT. The texture, the taste, the temperature, the toppings, all the Ts. So freaking yummers I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a breakfast spot!!! Worth the tourist money!!!! Update - Came back the next day because it was so good. Restrooms were very clean and nice. Lemonade was tasty and I think handmade?? Amazing!! Brilliant!! Banana nut chicken and waffles was delicious, the chicken was a great texture (not rubbery or anything like I feared it would be). The strawberry shortcake waffle was just as good as it was the first time.

Best Chicken and waffles I have ever had. The drinks were strong and the servers were super friendly. We ordered peach chicken and waffles and velvety waffle both came out quickly and were delicious.

My family and I arrived and there was only one other party seated. The waitress let us know to use our phones to look at the menu and checked in on us. My daughter ordered the chicken & cookie monster waffle, my mom ordered a chicken and wafflewich, and I ordered the bowl with crab & shrimp (can't remember the name) and a sweet potato waffle. I asked for a watermelon tea only to be told they didn't make it. I showed the waitress the item on the menu. The bartender ended up making it for ne. Everything was delicious. I tasted my daughter's waffle and it tasted plain. She enjoyed it though and ended up eating a lot of the sweet potato waffle. The bowl was really good. I thought it needed sauce which was only listed for the Nola bowl. The waitress brought me some which made it taste much better. I also needed to split the bill and the waitress had no problem doing it. The service was a little dry considering we were the only people there most of the time but we still enjoyed our meal. I wish we had something similar where we live.

This place is so good, probably my 5th time coming here. It's on my list every time I fly into NewOrleans. They have a $25 mimosas flight, how could you not?! And the food is amazing as always. They are now located in the French Quarters which is so convenient. Devin and Malani served me and they are so kind and welcoming - great job!
