Roadhouse 29 Replaces Two Birds One Stone With Smoked Meats and Burgers | Eater SF

"Opened in 2016 by chefs Douglas Keane (Cyrus) and LA chef Sang Yoon (Lukshon, Father’s Office), the yakitori-focused Two Birds One Stone was a departure from typical wine-country fare, offering Asian flavors in a slick space; it has now switched gears and will reemerge as Roadhouse 29 on January 30." - Ellen Fort

GPS may have you turn left but should be right turn. Entrance faces the river. We picked a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy a lovely lunch. The “In Rouge” cocktail is a nice blend with Titos and other flavors and is not too sweet. I enjoyed the Blackened Chicken Wrap which was awesome and plentiful along with the house chips which I highly recommend and my friend had the ribs and chips. All were great. Waitress was friendly and efficient. Great outdoor space.

I only had a couple of beers and no food. The bartenders were really friendly and helpful. There was a beautiful fireplace outside where I sat. It was nice to be right on the river. The music covered multiple eras and wasn't too loud at all. Perfect to create a nice ambience.

I love the riverfront & I finally made it over to try this spot. The entire space is a vibe - especially the outdoor area with the fire pit. The burger was delicious & and I’ll be back by for a drink soon!

This place was fantastic. I came by chance but was so happy I did. The atmosphere is great with a nice indoor space and even better (in my opinion) outdoor space. The food was very good and fairly priced (I got the chicken tenders for reference). And the service was friendly, professionally, and very accommodating. I liked Two Birds One Stone so much that I came back for a bit the next day.

I hope to update the review as this place has a lot of potential to be great, but this was their first weekend, and they weren't quite ready. The service was very slow. I would have ordered food as well, but after waiting in line at the bar for a while for a drink and hearing others complain about the food wait as well I changed my mind. Food and drink prices are on the high side for what it is. Staff was very friendly and the place is very nice right on the river. It is also dog friendly. I hope to try it again and have a better experience once they have been open longer.

Me and my wife came from Northwest Arkansas for her birthday to celebrate and relax. We stayed at the Origin Hotel right next to here. Dylan was our token tour guide, honestly the sweetest and most knowledgeable help of touring Kansas City as we've never been. He introduced us to great food and drinks here. The atmosphere was awesome, food was awesome and the drinks were amazing. The taps had local beers for us to try, Dylan even made us his personal favorite mix between taps. They opened in June 2025. So they had kinks to work out, reading previous reviews I see that. But, for newcomers reading previous remarks and seeing it compared to now. Their AC works now, they have shaded umbrellas, their food. Amazing. I absolutely loved my experience here. Im sorry for the ones that felt a different way from starting periods. It's improved. They have listened. They took notes. Give it another try. My wifes birthday was this week and they spoiled and treated us. Honestly 10/10 for me. Come by and say hi. They'll welcome you with no judgement and greet you with a smile. Me and my wife definitely see ourselves coming back and enjoying another slice of heaven here.

Great spot on the river! Awesome selection of local beers, very nice and welcoming staff. We arrived late after driving all day and were told the kitchen had just closed, but they ended up accommodating us. The bar staff chatted with us at length and actually wrote down a list of recommendations for other things to do in the area. They made it clear we could sample as many beers as we wanted before we chose one. The food came out quick, hot, and delicious. The staff checked on us often. On top of that there’s tons of nice seating outside right on the river. Just an excellent experience all around! We came back the next day, too. Thanks guys!

Google
Stopped by before a Current game. Location is excellent. Beer choices are perfect! Bartenders are great and the only reason there are 2 stars for service. The outside food ordering, delivery and follow up is abysmal and needs work. I watched at least 2 couples leave because they couldn't get service and then the next couple that sat down was immediately served. ??? We were luckily not in a hurry because it took 30 minutes to get a server and after the food was dropped off,no one ever stopped by again. Great place for a pre game beer, but do something about the food service, please!!

Yelp
What a great little spot along the river! We stopped at Two Birds One Stone after attending our first KC Current game (yay!). I loved that Two Birds was within easy walking distance of the arena. So convenient! Many others had the same idea to crab a drink post game. Service was great! Quick and efficient service at the bar. I felt like Two Birds had a decent selection of draft and canned brews as well as cocktails. We didn't try any food, but there is a menu other bar food available. Loved the view of the river and the convenience. A great stop for pre- or postgame or for a lovely outdoor drink.

Yelp
After 175 years; Kansas City finally has a riverfront beer garden!! Two Birds One Stone was my second stop of a solo pub crawl this past Saturday evening to check out a few new places in the downtown area. I really, really want to love this place, but my visit left me a bit underwhelmed. Visiting at night was probably not the best time to go, since the river and the park is not visible. The courtyard was set up with a variety of seating arrangements and some large screen TV's - although the deciding game of the NLCS was not viewable in favor of college football. Sad. Since I was flying solo, sitting at the bar was an obvious choice but the "bar" inside offered no stools, the upstairs was closed and all seating options outside were designed for groups. So I sat at a picnic table by myself with no view of the river watching a football game that I didn't give a crap about, sucked down my Love Gun Cream Ale from Heavy Riff Brewery in St. Louis and headed across the street to Show Pony inside the Origin Hotel for a bar atmosphere with conversation and MLB playoffs. I'm not writing this place off, I'm sure the vibe would be much different during the day and with friends, so I am eager to return and give them another chance under the proper circumstances - weather permitting.

Yelp
Great Spot Near the River & Stadium We stayed at the Origin Hotel next door, so this was just a stone's throw away--and such a fun find! The location is perfect, right along the river and beside the soccer stadium, in a beautiful new building. The beers were excellent, cocktails were fantastic, and the overall vibe was spot on. Service was friendly and attentive, and it's a bonus that they're dog-friendly.They also have theme nights/events it seems. I loved the little touches--like free skeeball near the restrooms--that made it feel playful and welcoming. The neighborhood is clearly up-and-coming, and I'm excited to see how it grows. The only downside is parking, which can be tricky on game days, but overall this is an awesome hangout spot. Definitely a must-visit when you're in the area!

Yelp
First timer here! I absolutely loved my visit here at Two Birds One Stone! I was a vender for the KC current game right outside of Two Birds One Stone and it was amazing! All the servers and staff were so kind and made sure my man and I were taken care of, the space was clean & beautiful, and the food was GREAT. I had the pub nachos and they were not like any other nachos I've had before. Delicious! And my man had a brisket Philly cheese steak with pub chips and he loved it as well! Not to mention one of the sweet servers whipped up a strawberry like limeade! 100000/10 will be back soon! (:

Yelp
Tim and I got out today and made a stop at Two Birds One Stone Beer Garden along the riverfront and a few steps away from Women' Soccer Stadium. This was a great spot by the river today with a nice view. I do have to say this service was not that great as it was not busy and it took about 10 minutes to get our drinks and another 15 minutes before he came back to take our order. They have a great selection of drafts and can beer. The menu is very limited. I got chicken fingers and french fries and Tim got KC brisket Philly sandwich with homemade chips. Food was just mediocre. Nothing really to write about. If you going for conversation, beer and a good time this is a very cool place to enjoy, relax and take in the views on the riverfront. I'm only giving this four stars because of the entertainment vibes as far as food I would give it one star

Yelp
Great spot by the river! Great selection of draught and canned beer. I found some new beers I've never heard of which was awesome because I found a new favorite. The food was pretty good and nice sharing portions. Service was great! Our bartender was so funny and made our experience what it was! It's very spacious and has a nice outdoor area. I bet it's adorable at night. Highly recommend if you are staying at the origin hotel!

Yelp
Great vibe. Beautiful views. Food and drinks available. Came here today for their grand opening night. We ordered a couple beers and sat outside on their patio, enjoying the sunset Hughes. There's a good selection of beers and cocktails available, however, they unfortunately do not feature any sours or stouts on the draft. Only one sour in a can and I don't think we saw any stouts at all. For a beer garden, it would be nice to see a better variety of beers, especially local beers (the one and only sour available was from OK). They offer a full food menu and the plates that came out looked very delicious, but were were not hungry for this visit. Will have to try their wings next time tho...those looked awesome! The service took a little longer than ideal as the few bartenders seemed overwhelmed with the long line. If there would've been a dedicated cashier it may have improved the flow.

Yelp
Maybe this place is still working out the kinks...maybe it's just filling a hole, since there aren't any restaurants in Riverfront near Current Stadium (other than Show Pony inside Origins), or maybe it's just not that great. I'm not too sure yet. I've only visited once so, I'll have to try it a few more times to get a real feel. I wouldn't recommend going after a Current game because when I walked past it was insanely packed- and not in a good way, in a "I'm not going to get my food or drink in under an hour" type of way. So, I went on a night I thought would be an off night however, there was Volleyball league going on therefore, it was still quite crowded. Anyways, onto the food that I did try which was a salad. The menu itself isn't that adventurous and the day I was there they were out of the two flavors of wings that peaked my interest (which now seem to be off the menu) so, it pretty much contains a few appetizers, some sandwiches, burgers and chicken tenders. I was feeling healthy so I went with the one salad on the menu which was a classic wedge, one of my favorites. But, this wedge had a few problems. One being that the wedge itself was extremely unwieldy to cut with flimsy compostable utensils. Another was that it was missing some components including the blue cheese, which in my opinion makes a wedge a true "wedge". Also, the kimchi vinaigrette sounded so interesting and unique however, I didn't really taste any of the fermented funkiness that makes kimchi so alluring, I wouldn't have been able to pinpoint this dressing from something like a sundried tomato vinaigrette. The biggie was that I up charged the salad by adding a protein on top which was supposed to be fried chicken, as you can tell by the picture it most definitely was a grilled chicken thigh. Though it was juicy and cooked well it wasn't what I ordered and since I already had to ask for the blue cheese I didn't feel like throwing a fit over some chicken. I'm giving Two Birds One Stone the benefit of the doubt and saying 3 stars over 2 stars because, maybe it was just opening week jitters or growing pains of a new restaurant. Hopefully service is running smoother now and the kitchen knows the menu a little better than the night I visited.

Yelp
Looking for a place to relax with a drink? This is it. I stopped by after work and enjoyed a cocktail. There were plenty of seating options, inside and outside the vibe was relaxing. You'll find a variety of beer and cocktail choices, along with a food menu. The staff was friendly. It's a great place to hang out with friends or just treat yourself.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped in Saturday evening after attending the Taco Festival down in Power and Light. My sister and I had seen it during our stay that Tuesday evening at Origin Hotel. We were not sure if it was open that day but since we were in the area again we stopped in after looking up their hours. Two Birds is not far from the Women's Soccer Stadium. It's nestled in a newer development area-Origin Hotel, newer Apartment Complex businesses and hopefully soon the Street Car will be making its way down to the river area as it's under construction right now. Two Birds has a cool/fun vibe. There is indoor seating as well as spacious outdoor seating. It was a nice cool evening so we grabbed some nice comfy chairs outside by the fire pit. We were greeted promptly by a server. I ordered the Strawberry Rum drink which was delicious. They do have food available to order but we just stopped in for drinks. I saw a cool skee ball game on my way to the restroom. I stopped to play on my way out. I had played a random lady who stopped to watch me, it was a good game-she beat me though! My friends and I enjoyed our drinks and I even got to pet a cute doggy that was there with his humans on the patio. We enjoyed our time hanging out there and will definitely be back!

Yelp
This was a great experience for me today. Our server was very respectful and considerate. We were vendors for the KC current game! I ordered the KC brisket Philly! I give it a 9/10 I felt like the meat was a bit dryer than some but I loved it over all with the barbecue sauce! The environment was very much adult oriented but family friendly at the same time.

Yelp
Great service. Drink selection is excellent specially local varieties. Location is perfect. Ample outdoor seating. Beautiful views. Didn't try the food though but you have to try this place. Dylan is the best bartender!!!!

Yelp
We went on a Thursday evening for a drink. We brought our dog and ordered our two drinks at the bar. Pricing was fair and service was good! We didn't try any of the food. The scenery on a summer evening is hard to beat though. Variety of chairs could seat many different types of groups. We had a great experience and will be back!

Yelp
I'll start by saying that Two Birds has only been open for a short period of time. The setup is great and it's within close proximity to CPKC Stadium and overlooks the River. I love the outdoor seating area and there are tons of tables and chairs. Unfortunately, they are definitely not prepared to handle crowds at this juncture. We came before a Current game. At least a third of the outdoor seating area was closed due to low staffing. The line for drinks was 20+ minutes deep (hello double-fist orders). I'm pretty sure there was only one server for the entire outdoor area as well. On this particular day, they were no longer taking food orders because they were too busy. I'm also disappointed in their food options. They need at least one entree that's not a paltry salad (especially one that contains blue cheese-ick) is or can be made vegetarian or vegan friendly. If this were an established joint, my review would be one or two stars. However, given the lack of appropriate staffing for their first few weeks, I'm hopeful it will improve. Owners, please staff up on game days and reconsider your lack of vegan and vegetarian friendly food items. This place has great potential!

Yelp
Two Birds One Stone is the newest hidden treasure in KC with a location right next to the current stadium - soccer and sours? Say less. There's a trendy shotgun interior with a full bar for anyone who wants to take a break from dog days of summer (speaking of, this place is dog friendly!), but don't discount the massive outdoor space with a variety of table types and umbrellas for shade. The food menu is balanced with burgers, sandwiches, and snacks. If you're looking on the lighter side, they have a blackened chicken wrap or a wedge salad you're going to love. Wanting an upscale take on a grillout? They have an incredible smokestack burger with brisket that is truly to-die-for. Fans of traditional wings, make sure to give the PB&J sauce a try if you want an americanized version of peanut thai sauce. The must have here is the MASSIVE pile of onion rings with the avocado green goddess sauce. They have so creatively paired flavors together and absolutely nailed it. The service here is something to write home about. The staff is friendly and attentive with a personalized touch. Ask for Carlos and Kelsey when you stop by and you'll be leaving with a full belly and a new friend. While you're munching away on your menu pick, be sure to grab an ice cold drink. They have options from wine and cocktails to good old brewskies. They've partnered with local breweries like Vine Street so you can enjoy the local flavors KC has to offer and support small businesses all in one go. One might say, killing two birds with one stone

Yelp
Super cute beer garden by the KC Current stadium. They have a full bar of drinks. They make a good bees knees. The pretzels were delicious. Servers walk around so you do not have to order at the bar. A great little gem.

Yelp
This place is legit. Big patio space with gorgeous uninhibited views of the river and a large variety of different seating options and drink options. Staff are all-stars- soooo nice! Vibes high. They have food. Dog friendly. Kid friendly including a specific kids area on the patio. Lots of taps & beers but also a full bar including a good variety of alternative canned options. No cider or sours that I saw but they had a shandy and seltzers. As far as the food goes... everything that walked by us from the kitchen looked amazing! We had the Mezze plate and the onion rings. 10/10 but the green goddess sauce is a little unique however still delicious. Great vibes and solid mixed crowd. Low key brewery types and "it" crowd were all enjoying the spot. Bathrooms were weird though. At first you think they're going to be gender neutral but then they didn't want to be a safe space so they split it up by "traditional" gender normative roles. Could have easily leaned into genderless but maybe there's a long term plan there! Handicap accessible? Yes, but opening the gendered bathroom door might be tough with the handle being at head height for a disabled person and the door would swing out into your chair. Otherwise, doorways are wide, concrete walking path throughout the gravel patio, & ramp to get to patio from building. Definitely going back for a ton of summer nights coming up! Pumped this place is on the map. Four stars! Deductions for the bathrooms not being gender neutral, not having easier access doors to the bathrooms for wheelchairs, and no radlers or ciders available.

Yelp
We had a great experience! We came early before the rush and were immediately impressed. Everything was clean with a little industrial look to it. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. They also have cornhole for entertainment. I never imagined those metal chairs would be so comfortable :-). Even the bathrooms were set up in a cool way. You walk out the bathroom door and the sinks are actually in the hallway. This way you don't have to worry about getting your hands dirty on a dirty door handle right after you wash them. The people were very friendly and welcoming. They were constantly making sure trash was taken out, tables were cleaned off, and their guests were taken care of. We saw their drink prices were fine as well. They have a lot of fun ideas for different beers and other drinks. We enjoyed everything we tried. This place is a great find and I would recommend giving it a chance and trying it yourself. Cheers!

Yelp
Drink are bad and the service is slow. Didn't get food because of the price. Most of the beer was not available.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was so yummy and the servers were very friendly, however it took forever to get drinks. It was extra busy with their being a game but just a heads up you may be waiting a long time for a beverage.

Paul M.

Yelp
Food was good and so was the service. Good selection of drafts. The atmosphere was great too.

Yelp
This place is a gem right off the Missouri River. Abbi and Spencer were amazing. The food was so good. I was going to take a pic but I had to dig In right away. This is a must go!

Yelp
Dishonest. Horrible service. Do not keep their word. Highly suggest not going there until they figure out what to do and learn how to run a business and treat customers. It was truly remarkable how disappointing it was even while we were all excited to visit the new establishment. Food is WAY overpriced. Lines are STUPIDLY long to get a beer. And, reservations mean absolutely nothing to the management.

Mary G.

Yelp
Went to a wonderful KC Current game so while we waited for the shuttle to go back to our car we stopped here and had a couple beers. Great service, great atmosphere. Good vibes. Great way to wait. They handled the large crowd from the game very well.

Danielle A.

Yelp
So good! This place has a stunning view of the river and river walk and the beer and food was awesome! The servers are friendly and the atmosphere was perfect.

Alan C.

Yelp
Great drinks and food. Some growing pains, but overall very good! Would definitely go back!

Peter C.

Yelp
Fantastic beer garden on the river. Even on a hot night there was enough breeze from the river to keep the patio cool enough to comfortably enjoy. Burger was great. Service of was great and knew the beer selection. Definitely worth the effort to get there. I'm looking forward to the upscale dining room opening this fall.

Yelp
I have been so excited for this place to open because I frequently visit the Berkeley Riverfront. The interior and outside seating areas are really nice and well decorated. A group of friends and I decided to sit outside since it was a nice day. The waitress came over and gave us some menus and allowed us some time to look over it. We decided to get some drinks and gave her our IDs. She then proceeded to make us pay in advance. I thought that was odd but i assumed it was to start a tab, but I didn't see that occurring with other tables. The waitress then came back a few minutes later with everyone's drink aside from mine. It took about another 15 minutes for my drink to come out. We were then ready to order food and other drinks a few minutes later, but the waitress came back and said she's closing our tab. At this point I was really confused and asked her why and she said "04 and up is 21, and you guys are 03" and asked us how old we were. We told her we were 21 and she thought about it and said "Oh i had my math wrong". I thought this was a minor miscommunication, but after her admitting her mistake she still refused to serve us and made us close our tabs. I honestly don't know what warranted her to act this way towards us. I really wanted to try the food they had, but I was never really given an opportunity. I understand they just opened, but I hope they improve their customer service.
