As National Parks Reopen, Nearby Restaurants Worry About the Coronavirus | Eater

"Also owned by the same local restaurateur across from Yellowstone’s north entrance, this saloon saw locals stop coming—even for takeout—out of fear of interacting with tourists. The owner has noted early, often maskless travelers arriving from large cities and has been working closely with health officials to test and monitor employees and implement strict precautions to protect the small community that relies on park visitation." - Nick Mancall-Bitel

This place was busy, and noisy, with mostly locals enjoying their Friday night... AND the food and the service were fantastic! I had a BLT that bulged with goodness and my husband had a burger that was so good he made a point of stopping and thanking the chef. Sure we had to wait a bit for our food but it was definitely worth the wait.

Google
Group of 10 stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday, they quickly put tables together for us. The chicken tenders and fries were exceptional. They make their own sauces! Chipotle ranch was delicious. Prices were reasonable and we all enjoyed our meals. Very friendly waitstaff. They have Toast Pay on the paper bill so you can use Apple Pay which is very convenient.

Staff was friendly, great service, the soup tasted home made and very good. Everyone enjoyed their meals.

We stopped here on the way home for our kiddos wrestling tournament and we were so happy we did!! The food=12/10. The kiddos split the 6 chicken tenders, the hubbs and I split the pork chop sandwich and a burger with onion rings and fries. All the food was incredible..but we were so impressed by the homemade fries and onion rings—as it’s rare these days!! The service was amazing! We chatted with locals while our kiddos played pool. All and all an amazing experience and we can’t wait to stop by again soon! 💗

Google
Chicken fingers are delicious. All sauces are home made. A bit noisy to have a conversation. May need to consider the outside patio. Would like to come back sometime to try their steak.

Google
The food was SO good and extremely filling, we came here as a group of three and had a pretty long wait but I'll assume it was just busy. The prices on their website were a bit lower but it was a great deal overall. The bar and bathrooms were really clean 😁👍

Google

Google
Easy, fun staff. Great steak, and we are steak snobs. Good green salad. Warm, cozy, & comfortable. A little loud, but that's just the sound of folks having a great time. Sat at the bar, perfect for two, really large tables for larger groups available. Affordable.

Yelp
Was in the area and fond this spot. Very much a local place. Sat at the bar & watched the cook. Wife had the grilled chicken sandwich & I had a turkey sandwich. Turkey sandwich was okay with lots of meat, but just a sandwich. Chicken sandwich was very good with two pieces on it. Others commented on how good the burger is. The place looks like a cool dive bar, but head to the back for family seating. Service was good, and we had fun interacting with the cook. Give it a try for a burger or BBQ.

Yelp
I was very impressed. The main room was full and very noisy, but there were tables in the back - and outside seating too, that was pet friendly. Service was great, prices reasonable, portions generous. I had the very best BLT I've ever had!! My husband liked his burger. I don't know if we will be in Whitehall again, but if we are, we will definitely eat (and drink!) here.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a local while my husband was working in the area. It did not disappoint. If the locals dine here then you know it's good! When you walk in you notice the classic tavern feel. 1-2 servers and a guy behind the counter making all the food. The food is hand made, fresh and VERY good!!! I got the handmade chicken tenders with home made fries. Some of the best tenders I have ever had. Service was good, tavern vibe and ample parking. Whitehall is a pretty small town. Worth a stop! Not too far from Bozeman if that's your vacation spot.

Yelp
Ate here several times while traveling/camping thru Montana. I was pretty surprised when I saw the menu and that almost everything is homemade. The deep fried mushrooms, fried pickles and chicken strips are all so so good. I wasn't as impressed with the pork chop sandwich. The bread it was on was good, but the pork chop lacked flavor. All the staff was super friendly and attentive. I learned the bar was the best place to sit, it's the only flat surface. All the tables are uneven and your drink will slide.

Yelp
The Two Bit Saloon is a relatively small bar and grill. It is classic a rural Montana watering hole. The beer is cold the burgers and chicken fingers are good. The service is fantastic. It isn't fast but is served with a smile and friendly conversation, even if you're not a local. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Fantastic service, atmosphere, and food! Absolutely recommend if traveling through. We stopped through on way to Yellowstone!

Yelp
Good location right on the main drag. Food was great, the kids loved the chicken! Service was horrible. Girl I think her name was Hailee, was extremely rude and made faces at my wife. Didn't take our order for about 20 minutes and the place wasn't busy but she was too busy flirting at the bar. Had to ask the blonde waitress for water and for our bill. Not impressed. Had some friends brag about their experience here and sad to say ours was nothing like theirs. Will not be back.

Michele Q.

Yelp
Food and drinks were great. Can't wait to return. It was one of the only places open on Memorial Day. We decided to go for a drive and stopped in here for lunch. They were slammed but dealt with the crowd well.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Great food, great smoked prime special on Saturday. Great place to grab a beer and a meal!

Yelp
Steaks, sandwiches, and chicken tenders are amazing! As a local, I love this spot and visit probably every week!

Yelp
We were traveling from Idaho to Yellowstone park and was looking for great food while getting gas. That's how we found this place. When I arrived I asked the waitress if dogs were allowed since we were traveling with one but unfortunately he was not. The food was really good but the blond behind the bar had NO HOSPITALITY about her at all. The waitress Cheyenne at first was busy and had little time to answer questions we had about their beers but as the night went on her smile and service improved 100%. The food was AMAZING however if you order a steak (on the menu it states comes with mushrooms, onions and bread) you have to specify that you want them otherwise you'll have to wait for the waitress to reorder them.

Yelp
Great food, good service , unique and inviting saloon. We really enjoyed our lunch. The chicken strips were the best!

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch at our mechanic's recommendation. The bartender recommended their hand-breaded chicken strips, which we got with fries and their house-made sauce. It was delicious! And a very generous portion. The full order was more than enough for two of us to share. Add some cold beers and a shot of whiskey, and we were very satisfied. Very reasonable prices, too.

Yelp
We visited this saloon for two reasons: 1. We were driving through the town of Whitehall on our way to Bannack State Park and 2. Only in your state recommended it as a hole in the wall you should visit. So, we went! It's a typical, western bar. They have a map on the wall where everyone from out of town signs their name. Thought it was super cool! (Of course I signed!) I ordered the Rueben and chips and salsa. The Rueben was huge and delicious. The salsa, for sure homemade, was the BEST I have ever had!! I would go back just for a massive order of that!! I initially orders a water, but it tasted funny to me (no fault to them, my husband said it tasted fine). So I ordered a beer and was perfectly satisfied! The bartender/waitress was very nice and attentive. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 star rating is that they put your sandwich on top of your side. For me that meant my Rueben was leaving juice all over my chips. Not too excited about that. Other than that, no complaints from me!!

Yelp
Great service and the chicken tenders are out of this world! Would definitely recommend to hunters or families looking for a great place for lunch.

Kimberly K.

Yelp
Atmosphere was great for a dark dive bar. Clean bathroom and the staff was grand for a busy Saturday night. Had the ribs, very good tender. Yum! The steaks we saw looked amazing and the hand cut fries wow! Wish the pawn shop had been open :(

Kim B.

Yelp
Great Food! Wonderful atmosphere! Great and friendly service! Highly recommend Two Bit Saloon.

Yelp
Called for delivery. We are holding an ad that says "we deliver!" ...They wouldn't deliver. Thanks for the false advertising! What's the point of advertising in the hotel if you can't deliver on your promise?! I will let the hotel manager know our dissatisfaction, and your unwillingness to meet your advertised (and joint venture agreement) promises.

Yelp
Food is great. Everyone is awesome there. If it's busy it's slow service. Best chicken fingers in Montana!

Yelp
Came in at 11 am to a empty cold building with no acknowledgement from the sole visible employee. We had previously scoped out the menu and were prepared to order. It's my birthday and I wanted steak this was one of my only 2 options. Service was borderline rude definitely not service oriented. We ordered after a hefty amount of time being ignored and having our drinks loudly (not slammedbut close) placed the table. We ordered fried pickles dang they were so good served with homemade ranch dressing. The ranch and pickles in their own right needs a 5 star review. We ordered a steak sandwich and a ribeye both Medium Rare. Sides were salad, fries, onion rings, "chips". I asked for the lady to pick me the dressing between the two vinaigrettes that were also homemade since I wanted to try something new but couldn't decided. She brought me a salad with visible slimy gross lettuce and Italian dressing. The dressing was flavorless and salad was old. She clearly at this point hates her job and we are a huge bother. When I asked if there medium rare was a hot steak with very pink center she was like yeah. Then proceed to tell the cook I wanted a seared steak with pink in the middle words I never said. I asked if they had A-1 she said yeah it's in that bottle but it's a different brand. So the answer is NO. Food comes out. I have no idea why they call it a steak sandwich it's a steak served with toast. My husbands stake was cooked close to rare but this was acceptable. Onion rings looked good. "Chips" still cooking had to wait on their arrival. Upon the arrival of the "chips" they were gorgeous little floppy circle fries they in no form were "chips". Now the "Ribeye" is clearly a sirloin and self respecting carnivore would have know this. The steak was cooked to medium in some areas and medium well in others. There was ZERO seasonings added no salt nothing this is now child's play everyone knows you must season a steak with a minimum of salt. This steak is pure lean meat no marble no fat nothing that makes a Ribeye an Ribeye. I just paid $28 for a sirloin. Seriously the worst Ribeye ever still has gristle in the marbling. This is a disgrace that they are ROBBING consumers of what they are paying for. Of course no server in sight drinks empty and were having food issues. Fries are pretty good some other brand of ketchup has been filled in the Heinz bottle not horrible just not Heinz. So check comes and she starts clearing the table the most attention we recieved was the get the hell out of here attention. I was kind and said thank you for every visit she came to the table as it is my Birthday and I wouldn't have put it past her to mistreat my food. I have no idea why my husband tipped her $8 I would have left her near nothing. I would only recommend this place for FRIED PICKLES AND RANCH DRESSING.

Yelp
Love the food here. Their burgers are great, the chicken strips homemade and tasty, and their hand cut fries hit the spot. Be prepared to wait, especially if calling ahead. Every time I have called in an order, it is 15 - 20 mins late. I don't know if this is a ploy to get you to buy a drink or what. Service is...meh. Salty servers and bar tenders. Good ol small town USA

Yelp
If you are driving down I90 and looking for an authentic Montana experience, come here. The staff is friendly, it has a good beer selection, and and Steak is amazing! It was a very comfortable and relaxing stop on a very long road trip. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Cerah P.

Yelp
Horrible unfriendly staff had a to go order staff was not busy and didn't even acknowledge that we were waiting on order for 5 minutes then we picking up the order verified I got everything they said everything was in the bag and brushed us off and they didn't give us everything we ordered no sauce for their soggy fries and dry burger would give less stars if I could horrible bar staff who don't care about their costumers

Jerry C.

Yelp
GREAT PLACE! Fun people... Had chicken strips, their homemade ranch dressing and onion rings -- all excellent! If, per chance, I stray through Whitehall again, this would be the place I grab a bite to eat.

Yelp
Three and a half, really. Good handmade burgers, steaks, and chicken. Service was a bit curt, but we came in pretty late, so I can't blame them. The deep-fried green beans were an excellent app, but a little salty. The dining area was stiflingly hot, but there is a patio, although both had mosquitoes during our visit. I'm guessing this is by far yer best bet for dinner in Whitehall.

Yelp
House-made food, sauces, fries, etc. Montana Angus, local favorites, Cold Smoke on tap, what else can you ask for! HUGE portions deeeee-LISH!!

Yelp
If you're looking for a taste of small-town Montana, look no further than the Two-Bit Saloon. We are becoming regulars on its back patio, most often following a hike in the Highlands or Tobacco Roots. Today, we made it our dinner destination following an adventure at the nearby Ringing Rocks. We are never disappointed by the friendly staff and the delicious food. Although our usual fare includes burgers and fries, two of our party (ages 11 and 12) chose the chicken sandwich and roast beef panini. Both were scarfed down immediately. The hand-formed burgers were exceptionally good, with a choice of several cheeses. Served with fresh lettuce, etc. on homemade buns with a side of hand-cut fries, chips or onion rings. All sides were delicious and what I have come to expect from small-town joints like this one. The staff is courteous, if not downright friendly, and even allowed us to bring our leashed dog onto the patio instead of leaving him in the car on this warm evening. A perfect stop after a hard day at play!

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday for lunch, got a table and ordered the chicken tenders and there home cut fries. It was very good, staff was very friendly. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
The Chicken Tenders. Awesome! Great little divey bar with yummy food. I made the mistake of ordering a glass of wine..... bad idea, but that was my fault. For bar food - its delicious! Friendly staff!

Yelp
Great place! Stopped here every Saturday night while attending field camp with Indiana University. If you are in the area, it's a stop you need along the way. Great food, sides, and of course drinks. Made a lot of memories here. Not one of them were bad.

Yelp
Burger was great, loved having a late afternoon beer on the patio! Perfect after a weekend of camping!

Yelp
Stopped in Whitehall for one night while driving across the country. The hotel recommended this place and I was skeptical but hungry. What a great surprise! Best burger in a really long time. Also I ordered side salad with blue cheese dressing. The server brought be a "Cajun" blue cheese dressing and suggested I try it and could change if I didn't like. Well I am not a big fan of spicy hot but this dressing was superb. Just the right amount of heat without overpowering. An unexpected find. Not sure if I will ever be back through this town but will make a point of returning to this place if I am ever in the area.

J. R. K.

Yelp
In the past this place had great food. It seems to change as they change cooks like changing a set of underwear every morning! Hamburger patties are too flat, which is flatten by the cook and cooked too much like black. I think the secret to a great hamburger in the past which I noticed was it wasn't flatten so thin, it had some beef to it, that's what kept the flavors in. The past two times I have been there in the past eight weeks it has not been good, on top of that they give you less french fries compared to last year, but prices just go up! I think what turns my stomach the most is the people preparing the food DO NOT WEAR GLOVES OR HAIR NETS!! I had a hair in my fries too. Where is the health department!
google avatar

Qi L.

Yelp
Steak here is really good!!! Had a good time dining here while driving cross country.

Barbara B.

Yelp
Good food & the best vodka tonic I've ever had. Fairly comfortable place but I'm not sure the locals appreciate out of towners. When we walked in it was almost total silence, no friendly smiles so we just scurried back to the booths. The little basket my sandwich was served in was useless. It didn't allow me to slice my sandwich in two and I didn't want to place it directly on the table to slice it. It was good tasting though, so that made up for it. Very good dinner salad too!

Christine P.

Yelp
Ordered their "Famous Chicken Strips". Not famous at all. No seasoning to the thin flour coating. Way over cooked. Fries were good but so is Mc Donald's. Wait staff under staffed and no reply when we told them chicken wan't good. Keep driving if you want to eat. Beer is cold.

Yvonne G.

Yelp
Went there for a Halloween costume party w Karaoke entertainment. Ordered the chicken strips (hand cut) w 3 different dipping sauces that I suspect were made in-house: outstanding flavor + very affordable. Later ordered the chips + salsa appetizer, which was plentiful + delicious. Salsa again tasted homemade not store bought. Delicious! Service was good if a bit slow - no problem though since they had their hands full; bar was packed w a fun loving, entertaining crowd. 3 bartenders were swamped + did their very best. I had a throat problem + required a lot of hot water, which they were only to happy 2 provide - they have an electric tea kettle! Really appreciated that little detail. Can't wait to return there + enjoy some of their yummy offerings again. Great place to go + hang out w friends. Thank you so much for making this a great evening for us!

Rita C.

Yelp
Food is always good but staff turnover is horrendous. They try hard but are over worked and under trained. A 30 minute wait time for a drink and hour for a sandwich doesn't cut it. The upside is there's always someone to visit with.

Capt B.

Yelp
What a surprise! Great service, good food: we had their signature burger and a sirloin and everything was far better than expected. Really good, friendly service and warm atmosphere. I'll be back again.

Sandra H.

Yelp
This place has the Montana saloon atmosphere. We were a party of 6. Each couple split a rib eye steak. There are no real veggie sides available. Only salad and fries. They were fine. We all ordered our steaks medium rare. All three were seriously over cooked. We returned them and they made it right. Second ones were way better. The house wine was ok and reasonably price. I do not think I would repeat only because of the lack of veggie selections.

Tara M.

Yelp
Hand pattied burgers, juicy steaks, hand cut fries and chips and Cold Smoke beer on tap. This place is very comfortable and the food is very good. The menu isn't extensive, but they do what they have well.

L F.

Yelp
Two Bit is a fun place to stop when you are in Whitehall. Excellent service and really good food! Highly recommend the chicken strips. Great brews on tap!

Haylee E.

Yelp
Stopped in on a busy Saturday night and the service was great for how busy they were. The food was delicious, definitely recommend their "Famous Chicken Strips". Far too delicious to be considered bar food!
