Suerte Will Transform Into Mexican Steakhouse to Close Out Year | Eater Austin

"A new barbecue joint on North Lamar opening Wednesday, December 3, this spot from founder Aaron Aday brings on pitmaster Justin Abercrombie (who recently left Rollin Smoke BBQ) to deliver what Aday calls “blue-collar barbecue,” aimed at making smoked meats for the breakfast and lunch crowd more accessible and affordable as an alternative to the growing high-end barbecue trend. The menu will include barbecue sandwiches, tacos, ribs, brisket, and more, plus a meat market on weekends." - H. Drew Blackburn

Google
Finally made it in! They have a cute Mule menu, I didn’t try a margarita, maybe next time. We didn’t eat here but the menu looks good. They have a few vegetarian options cauliflower tacos, goat cheese salad and a few apps. The place is SMALL. Maybe 10 seats at the bar and a few tables. The bartender/ server/ maybe she helps cook too was so kind and welcoming and friendly. Very cool decor. Happy we stopped by and will for sure be back

First time in and had a pleasant experience. The lady behind the bar was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and polite. They have a wide variety of mixed drinks with fresh ingredients, which is a rare sight. They have a good selection of drinks in cans and bottles as well. I just went for a beer but my friend got a blackberry mule (no picture) that was pretty tasty. We ordered some food, tri tip fries and a cheesesteak dog. Both food items were good but I think the hotdog was a better deal, no pictures either, but the hotdog is loaded! It’s pretty quaint inside. There’s a small patio off to the side. Pretty clean inside too. Overall would I’d go back.

Google
Decided to try this place out for lunch and overall the food was good and freshly made. We had the homeboy burger, and cheesesteak. As a preference for the cheesesteak I wished the ratio of onion and peppers are 50/50 as well as the meat be thinner.

Mickey R.

Google
We got the peppered pork tacos and goose carnitas tacos. They were very tasty. The drinks were : coronado beer wheat ale and the wife had a blood orange jalapeño margarita. The margarita was good. My beer came in a can and I got a chilled glass.

A must stop if traveling on 99fwy!! Found this during a gas stop traveling back to LA. Adding it to our route when we travel north again. Had the pineapple Serrano margaritas, duck carnitas, and a deliciously cooked burger. Patio was closed but inside is very inviting and equipped with large screen TV's for a comfortable game night. Located in a lively little alley with several other visually appealing exteriors. Spent $75 with food, drinks and tip - great delicious deal.

Ok if you love fire.... Argue with the waitress about how hot the Spicy Chicken Tacos are!!! They were absolutely something I've been craving for a while.. Hats off to Two Goats and a Goose!!! I love heat and it was pretty warm!!! Fish and Chips are good as well. QUALITY 💯!!! First time there and will be back!!!

Google
We had a party of 8 and none of us had been there before. It seems to be more of a bar with some interesting food choices. Most of us had fish and chips which was very good. One had a James cheeseburger which tasted good and one had fish tacos with a tomatillo sauce. The staff was very nice and attentive to our needs.

I found this little gem while working in Bakersfield. I am so happy I did. I have dinner there every time I am in town when they are open. The owner and cook always remember me by sight and both are always genuine, happy and friendly. The food and drinks are always excellent, the atmosphere is very pleasant and welcoming. Truly a hidden gem in Bakersfield worth checking out.

Yelp
The cheesesteak fries were absolutely delicious! We came in on Friday the 13th as they were a stop on the Bar Hop map for the evenings theme. One of our friends was hungry so he ordered the cheesesteak fries and the two kamimaze shots for $13 bucks. The lady who tended us was short (in conversation), but polite. I absolutely love the exposed brick and look of the place. I hadn't been since this place used to be Muertos. I'll definitely be coming back to try more off their menu.

Yelp
We tried going here before but it seems like they close quite early so we were not able to try it as we came a bit past 8 PM. My husband has been here though and loved their grilled lamb tacos. So we ordered the same and also shared a chili verde bowl. He loves the tacos because he is a big bleu cheese fan but it seems like there was not enough cheese on our order. It also was a bit dry which was unfortunate. The chili verde bowl though had a good kick and I enjoyed it. The restaurant has a nice cozy ambiance though and feels like home. Unfortunately, the tacos felt kinda short of our expectations.

Yelp
Dinner was Great last Friday Night , We ordered appetizers- mushrooms and I had the Ahi Tuna and Guest had the Chicken Sandwich. Both were Awesome along with a nice bottle of wine. Service was Amazing and Shawna's Restaurant setting is very inviting and relaxing too. A must place to go !!!!!!!

Yelp
Only giving this place two stars because my waitress was very king and helpful to me, however complete waste of money coming on by here. Stoppped in for lunch and got a Serrano hot dog, after waiting for about 10 min my meal was out and it was HUGE hot dog. Bread to meat portion was way off. Way too much bread and that bread just shouldn't be a "hot dog." Next the Weiner....basic quality. I was suprised to find two Weiners in there and the bread portion still over killed it. For $13 bucks, just not worth it really. On the bright side, the fries were good. Overall, probably won't come back again. Just be ware if you were eyeballing the hot dogs on the menu.

Yelp
Great bar bites in the old Muerto's location. Two Goats and The Goose has a small pub feel, especially with the larger back patio area closed for now. They have a full bar with bar seating and a few tables spread throughout. They do take reservations. The spunky bartender does all things (bartender and waitress). I started with a pineapple serrano margarita. I asked for less peppers to keep the margarita mild and it had the perfect amount of spice. There was a lot of pineapple though so it was pretty sweet. Someone at our table got the blackberry mojito and he commented that it was a little too blackberry heavy with muddled pieces in every sip. Everything we ate was good. I had a burger and it was a thick patty but cooked so well. The fish was moist and juicy and served well in both taco or fish and chip form. The friend cauliflower app was a great start and it almost had a fish like taste- my guess is they share a similar fryer. A little interesting that the food was served on disposable plates. Not what I was expecting based on the vibe. Overall, solid food!

Yelp
The ambiance is fun if you are looking for an Irish pub type feel. Unfortunately, we came for dinner mainly, and not drinks, and that was a mistake on our end. The air conditioning may not have been turned on yet, and it was pretty hot, and the fried foods were not at all good. The garden tacos were pretty tasty though. I had the salmon salad, and it was passable. I was highly impressed with how quickly we were served our food with only two people working, although we were the only party in there when we went in. We will go back for drinks, but this is not the best place for a celebration dinner.

Yelp
Awesome place to have a nice meal. The live entertainment was top notch, the artist played his guitar and had an amazing voice. The food was terrific and reasonably priced. The owner anticipated our every need and had a great personality. I know why she was featured on Diners Drive in's and Dives. Pet friendly. Would definitely recommend. Ty Theresa

Yelp
Legit the best food and service ever ! I love the cheeseburgers they have ! Be patient w them because from my knowledge it's just two people who work there, but it's legit the best ! I will always choose this place for date night !

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place because of the creative menu. Sadly, I did not love it. We started with the often-yelped Pork Bites. Deep fried pork bits, which had no seasoning at all. Not underseasoned, just not seasoned at all. No salt, no anything. My husband got the ahi tacos. He actually loved the taste of the tiny corn tortillas, but the ahi was tasteless. I ordered the cheese steak. I loved the bread. The cheese was good, when I could find it. The meat was chopped instead of shaved, and I had a really hard time biting through it, especially when it was hot. The few bites I got with the (again unseasoned) meat, cheese, and green pepper were ok. Not good. We were planning on ordering a dessert and drinks, but after the food we decided not to. I'd love to try the Amaretto Bread Pudding and Blackberry Mule, but maybe just those before a show or something. Service was decent without being effusive or negligent.

Yelp
I came to this gem on the advisement of an intern at my job and I'm really glad I did. The food was really good, looked good and tasted even better. Idk how to explain it but this restaurant gives me the true Bakersfield vibe. The service and server were really great. Made jokes, kept our cups full and was quick with our food. I should have know this place was good when I saw a line of people waiting for them to open for lunch. I look forward to coming back here again with more people!

Emma A.

Yelp
Pork bites very yummy, older lady is rude :/ she didn't like that I had questions about the menu and kept interrupting me.
google avatar

Natalie L.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and each time, was greeted by a friendly bar tender (who I think is the owner). She makes delicious drinks, and the vibe of the place is really cozy and inviting. They have tvs running showing whatever sports game is on, which is cool. Haven't ordered much off the menu, but the burger was sooo goood!!! Will definitely be back for more yummy drinks and food options.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Bakersfield because there are so many good choices on the menu, from the lamb to the hot dogs done right (fascinating taste combos) and simple things like the burritos. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the ambiance is another plus.
google avatar

Jeffrey F.

Yelp
The fried mushrooms are absolutely killer. I'll be going back just for those...as for everything else, it's a cool little spot for some drinks and bar food!

Dennis A.

Yelp
Visiting from Phoenix AZ. Saw Triple D (Diners Drive-ins and Dives) Guy Fieri show on Muerte Kitchen. The name changed to Two Goats and the Goose. ( same owner) Shawna gave us excellent service. Friendly Professional and Courteous. I saw reviews of rudeness and menus not provided. Never rude and a posted sign says welcome grab a menu and a seat anywhere that is not reserved. Do not believe what others post. Had the lamb tacos and pork bites. They were both excellent. I recommend tacos and pork bites. Thank you Shawna for an excellent time. We enjoyed ourselves. We will be back soon.

Yelp
Food is good but not great and the service is interesting. The sarcasm works for some but my friend who was ordering was not a fan. I personally thought it was ok but the vibe is a little drab. Cool place, cool name and decent food.

Brianna T.

Yelp
This will forever be my favorite spot. I don't care if they're not muertos anymore, their food is on point! This is the spot where me and my hubby go for date night The customer service is always impeccable drinks are delish good portions!! Perfect location

Holli H.

Yelp
The lamb tacos and pork bites were excellent. Met Shawna, the owner, very cool. This place is off of an alley in downtown Bakersfield. So retro. It's a bar that serves great food. Next time I'm in town, I'm going to swing by.

Yelp
Outstanding. The indoor space is not very big, but it's done masterfully. The atmosphere is perfect, it's like a modern pub where you want to hang out regularly. The food is fine dining level of complexity and attention to detail. My boyfriend got the fried egg sandwich and it was heavenly. The black pepper bacon was next level, the egg yolks were perfectly runny, and the bun was phenomenal and fresh. I got the fish and chips and it's the best I've ever had in Bakersfield (bowling alley included!). It's all elevated pub style food but the care and craftsmanship that goes into everything makes it all memorable. The dessert was a cake cup that had cinnamon rolls, vanilla cake, apples, pecans and whipped topping. We were so full but almost ate the entire thing. Side note: I hate green beans. I was vegan for 15 years and never could make myself stomach them. Hate. My bf got them as his side. They're French style and so good we both couldn't stop eating them. Done in garlic and grilled to perfection. The drinks were incredible. The whiskey smash was OMG, maybe better than a whiskey sour? Which says a lot, LOT for me. I got the ace apple cider and it was perfect with my fish and chips. This is the best food I've had in Bakersfield in a long, long time. If your regular downtown spot isn't hitting the way it used to (we won't name names) there is solace for you here. Oh! Keep in mind they have two employees. They ask you to not have loud phone conversations (smaller place) and to let them know when you're sitting since they both may be tending to something else. Don't make a mistake-- the service was GREAT. I wish I had asked for her name. It was above and beyond all around. We tried something new today because the wait at the 18hundred was so long and we didn't want to wait. I've never been happier to have a restaurant be too busy. This was a gem of a find. We can't wait to bring our friends and families back. Thank you guys sooo much for an incredible and unexpected lunch.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised and how amazing this place is! I'd always wanted to try it, we were being put off by another place in town for our group of 9. I called Two goats and the goose and the woman who answered was so amazing and said give me 15 minutes and I'll have you set up! She sure did! We all had amazing and different dishes as well as drinks. Mixed drinks, beer and juice. It was all fantastic!!
google avatar

Felix H.

Yelp
It is delicious, flavorsome, full of flavor, appetizing, scrumptious, probably fresh and juicy, making a succulent meal, a kid would say finger licking good.
google avatar

J G.

Yelp
What a great little place. Started off with a friendly waitress...she was attentive and helpful. We ordered three burgers and cauliflower tacos. The empty plates indicate amazing food! We will be back. Nice selection of booze and beer!!!
google avatar

Eric E.

Yelp
This is a hip little joint that has transformed during COVID. The drinks are excellent. They are definitely strong and not overly sweet. I ordered a spicy drink and they definitely delivered. I was on fire and wanted more. The fried pork bites are a carryover from the previous restaurant. They are great. Crispy, tender, and flavorful pork nuggets. The lamb tacos were ok, but they put so much blue cheese (and strong) they were very one note. I love blue cheese and I ended knocking a lot off onto the plate. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were reasonable. We'll be back.

Yelp
This was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I have never been greeted with such rudeness and anger, combined with the sense of being unwelcome. I wish I could comment on the food, but my wife and l left the establishment after being verbally attacked by the host upon entry. I had been looking forward to checking this place out all week and chose to ignore other reviewers mentioning the hostile treatment of the owner. My fault, and I hope you do not repeat my mistake. You have been warned.

Yelp
Hey this spot was pretty good we came in there about 1 in the afternoon with 10 of us and the owner made it work for us found us seating theyhad another area in the back that was not being used so there not very much seating in the dineing room but ... It was a little tight now the food was on point i had lamb fries and it was so much I couldn't finish it my wife has the chick sandwich tacos my daughter had fish and chips but.... It was a little over cooked .... The owner was taking orders and they had one cook the owners who was nice but ...odd told us of the bat didn't have any dessert available on the menu because she was on vacation the week before so that's was a bummer she also kept referring us to other shops for dessert which was kinda odd but ok it will be awhile if we go back it a little pricey but over all it was ok
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
I know the restaurant is struggling and for the most part everything was fine The burger had great flavor The cheese plate was ok Trip tip fries were delicious but needed way more meat The owner has applied for a liquor license check back February 2021

Debbie P.

Yelp
Had a horrible experience at this so called restaurant. The owner/server was so rude and condescending, my lunch date and I went to Mama Roomba. When I walked in, the server asked if I was ok. I told her about the owner yelling at me in front of everyone-- so I walked out. She said that a lot of people complain about her. I'm surprised her establishment is still open. I will never ever consider walking into this place again. Be warned. I would give this place zero stars if I could.
google avatar

Rochelle V.

Yelp
We shared the TriTip Fries, Buffalo Chicken Fries and the Spicy Chicken Tacos. hotness alert...the Spicy Chicken Tacos will leave the heat lingering in your mouth for awhile, but can't say we weren't warned! All 3 items were delicious and we will definitely be back. We are looking forward to trying the Chili Verde next time!
google avatar

Poncho H.

Yelp
Had a sweet tooth and decided to try this cake in a cup. So stoked that I did!! The tartness of the lemon and the fresh strawberries make this so good. The cake is moist and the whip cream is so light. I can't stop eating it. If you are craving something sweet ...try this!!
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
Food-OUTSTANDING ***** Service-POOR* Ambiance-COOL**** Walked in, only to be asked by owner/server, to grab our own menus. No welcome, hi, good afternoon...There was one other table. Owner/server seemed irritated and was annoyed to provide basic services to her customers. Did not like the food served on styrofoam. However, the highlights of the restaurant is the location, the building, which has so much history, and the food. Hats off to the chef.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to this spot twice. Both times we ended up there because other spots were busy or closed. This has become a reliable place for a drink and good food. On both of my visits the restaurant was pretty empty. My most recent visit I had an odd experience. I wanted to order a salad. They offer six different items under the salad section. The menu lists the ingredients for each salad. Two of the salads mention having mixed greens and the rest only list the toppings. People tend to play fast and loose with the word "salad" so I figured I'd double check before ordering. I asked the server if the tri tip salad came with lettuce since it isn't mentioned on the menu. The server laughed and gave me a sarcastic answer saying "it's a salad". Like I said, the menu had mixed greens listed for two of the six salads so I just didn't want to assume. The food was great but the service left a bad taste in my mouth. I still do recommend this place, despite my weird salad interaction. It's clean, they show games on the TVs, they serve drinks and good quality food. I'm sure I'll be back again next time I find myself downtown with nowhere else to go.

Yelp
I rarely ever write a review on a bad dining experience. I usually choose not to review them at all. In this case, I feel it's relevant information for people to decide where they want to spend their hard earned money. We decided to stop here for a late lunch. There were only 2 people in the restaurant eating when we arrived, and no one was there when we left. Upon entering we were told by the owner to pick up the menus from a table by the door. We did and then stood there waiting for her to let us know where to be seated. She continued wiping down tables, so I asked her if it was okay to take a seat, to which she replied, "yeah go ahead." After a few minutes, she came over to take our drink order. Husband ordered the Gin Gin Mule. He asked what was in the drink. She said it was a regular mule, but with gin. He started to ask if it had ginger beer, but she cut him off and snapped back, "I'm trying to tell you what's in it if you'll let me finish." She wasn't joking either. No dry humor intended whatsoever. We felt so uncomfortable after that. I wanted to leave, but husband decided to wait and see if the vibe and service improved. We ordered the lamb tacos, duck carnitas tacos, and the fish and chips. The food was good, but so hard to enjoy in an environment where you feel that you're a nuisance. We didn't dare ask for anything else or interrupt her from her cleaning. My overall rating The food: Good. My compliments to the chef. Service: Rude and unwelcoming. Ambience: Divey in a good way. I hope this place works on how they treat their customers. It's unfortunate because it could have so much going for it. However, even with the rebranding and new name (it was formerly called Muertos) it appears that old habits are hard to change. We will not be back.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
Staff is super friendly and accommodating. They welcomed us in and we had our choice of seats. The food was good as always. Menu has interesting options and always innovative. It's a great place to have a drink and a meal.
google avatar

Beatriz A.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Owner is nice and attentive and has so much passion for the food they serve. One of my favorite items is the Serrano dog and their cake in a cup are a must!
google avatar

Tom B.

Yelp
I have been going to this location for several years and this is the third establishment. I came in when it was completely dead. The waitress was cold and unfriendly at first. The cook and her were more interested in the game then trying to give the customer a good experience. Almost felt a vibe of not wanting customers ywt so they can watch the game. Then the food came, the fries are the best fries in town. I mean I see why they can give you ok service when their fries are so good. For a small place they had some beers to choose from. I work downtown so I have been to most places around there. I will wait until this reasurant fails and the next one comes in. If you want really good fries, stop by.

D R.

Yelp
This place is great for foodies! It's a super cool room in an old brick building. Tons of unique and flavorful options on the menu. Pork bites, sport dog and Hudson burger are personal favorites.
google avatar

Alisa H.

Yelp
Great place to get together with friends. It was an early Saturday night, so not a ton of people and easy to chat. The food was good! We ordered a few different fries options, and the lamb salad was one of the best dishes I've had at a bar. Drinks were great, service was great. Read the signs at the door and you'll be golden.

Jose M.

Yelp
The First time I went about a week ago on a Saturday waitress lady seemed a little rude but I gave her the benefit of the doubt maybe she just was tired or not having good day. I ordered a burger, it was very good, so aside from her not being as friendly I decided to give it another try today and the minute I walked in the same lady waitress was so rude made me feel very uncomfortable I just decided to walk out. Although food was good last time I couldn't handle her behavior.
google avatar

Yelp
First visit started off quite well. KRBC Citra on tap. vintage brick walks eith nice wooden tables and chairs. Cozy bar. Friendly, quick service We ordered the duck carnitas tacos and fish and chips. The tacos were tasty but a bit too red in the middle. Another minute or two on the stove could help. The fish and chips were not good. Fries were over salted. The fish was awful. Stringy and seeming to be well past its due date. The wife had one piece. I ate the rest. Next morning we are both suffering from upset stomachs.
google avatar

Erika M.

Yelp
The food was AMAZING. My husband and I shared the lamb fries. My husband got the Serrano hot dog and a cucumber mule. I got the 3 duck carnitas tacos and a blood orange mule. We weren't sure what to expect but it sure surpassed our thoughts. We'll go back for sure.
google avatar

TheFlashingScotsman A.

Yelp
You got to try the lamb and the duck tacos! These guys got it goin' on! We haven't tried everything on the menu yet, but the tacos and burgers are great! Nice people, great service. Definitely a gem in the downtown area.
google avatar

Jared C.

Yelp
I'm a fan. This is my favorite spot to hang out with my coworkers before going home. Good food. Great atmosphere. On today's trip, I ordered an old fashioned, a long island ice tea, a plate of cauliflower, and two diner items Togo for dinner: Angelo Burger and Ahi Tacos.
google avatar

Manuel G.

Yelp
A group of friends have lunch almost every Friday. We have our typical lunch spots, but one of them changed names recently. We decided to check it out. Two Goats & The Goose is the new name. We certainly appreciated going in and seeing familiar faces and the waitress already knew what we were all drinking. I had the fish and chips and it was really good. Fish was light and tender. Their tarter sauce had a different taste, but it was good. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The food was great. Overall we had another successful lunch! We're definitely going to keep going there. Check it out if you're downtown.
google avatar

Yelp
Sarah was our server she made sure our table was clean and we enjoyed the food and the service. Everything was fresh and had so much flavor. We enjoyed our meals. Thank you for the hospitalItty and the fresh ingredients. The chicken soup was delicious. It could've had a little more chicken. The fish and chips were battered to perfection. The crane French fries were great. Thanks for the experience and talk to you later ambiance. Everything was just right for the location. Cheers and we will be back.

Annette C.

Yelp
Food was just ok nothing bad to say. The owner was very rude. After talking about my experience, come to find out that she treats her customers badly. not just me. Possibly she might have been moody because it was hot in the restaurant with no air conditioning, only has ceiling fans which will not be ok when it gets hot this summer. Myself and my friends that were there will never go back. She needs to change her attitude.

Greg S.

Yelp
First thing to hit you as you walk in the door is an overpowering smell of sewer. Place looked relatively clean but smelled awful. Only one other table occupied while we were there, but they were plenty loud to make conversation very tough. Server was friendly and attentive. Food was better than average and priced appropriately. Previous reviews complaining of soggy, limp French Fries were spot on. Despite asking for "well done" fries, they arrived luke warm and flimsy. Overall I expected more and left a bit disappointed.

Yelp
Stopped off in Bakersfield en route to Las Vegas. We were feeling peckish after a longish drive through the San Joaquin Valley, so we let Yelp! lead us to Two Goats & The Goose. Now we are stuffed! It's a great little restaurant/bar with bar grub on steroids -- menu includes loaded fries, burgers & hot dogs. All come in mammoth portions, with unusual, yet tempting combinations. My partner had the "it's spicy!" Serrando Dog (loaded with grilled Serrano peppers!) & fresh-cut fries; I had the Michael burger that was oozing with pepper Jack cheese, a grilled onion, jalapeños, and spicy chipotle sauce, served perfectly rare. Grilled green beans on the side. Both sandwiches were HUGE. But the best item was the Blood Orange-Jalapeño Margarita. It had just the perfect amount of heat & sweet. The bar serves an array of "specialty" cocktails, plus some impressive labels: Monkey 47, Johnnie Walker Blue & a slew of whiskeys. 'twas a yummy introduction to Bakersfield.

Yelp
Not a fan--won't go back. My friend asked the sole waitress (who is also the owner) what she would recommend between two drinks and the owner rudely relied, "I dunno. You're drinking it." She didn't have an ounce of humor in her statement. It was then time to order and the as we went around the table, my friend hesitated and was deciding between two dishes. The owner barked at her "You've had this much time and you still don't know what you want to order." She is so abrasive it becomes awkward. We should have gotten up and left. We also noticed there were no employees but the chef. Betcha nobody employed stays long. On a positive note, the mushrooms were delicious. But not worth the sassy service.
