Two James Spirits - Grand Rapids

Top notch spirits! If you are on the west side of the state and don't want to drive to Detroit to the original, you are in luck! Remember, this is a tasting room and no food... but there is a great place connected that has very good food. Many great spirits to try, and even more craft cocktails! Or even mocktails for your DD. My favorite was the Old Fashioned made with Catcher's Rye, yum! Absolutely great, friendly service!

First off don't be confused - the spirits room is located inside the 7 monks tap room. Second of all - Shout out to Rachel for being the best bartender and taking great care of us! The cocktails were amazing down to those potato chips! Something about tiki drinks and salty crunchy chips go hand in hand. Ha. We ended up buying some Dr Bird merchandise and a bottle of the French Connection. We would definitely come back just to see Rachel and try more amazing drinks.

Everything associated with Two James: their different types of bottles, the Detroit distillery location and Supergeil (TJ's restaurant across the street from their Detroit location) is FIRST class. The same holds true for their Grand Rapids location. Probably been here a dozen+ times and the service behind the bar is always outstanding. Also you can purchase the entire line of bottles saving a long trip across state to the east side.

Visited for my first time last night & loved it. The bartenders were super nice, Jake and another gentleman were working. They were both awesome, friendly & talented mixologists. The vibe in here is great, the artwork is stunning & I found out it’s a local artist and they switch out the artwork throughout the year. Can’t wait to go back and see what new pieces they have up. The drink menu is great, it was hard to decide which drinks to get I can imagine they’re all great and I’m excited to go back and try another! Will be back soon!

Great atmosphere, amazing drinks, and outstanding service!!! Besides the usual good bar experience, they have b-movie night every other Wednesday with a specialty cocktail to match the movie. It is one of my favorite events in Grand Rapids!

This is the best cocktail bar in Grand rapids. Desmond is a bartender took care of our us. He is full of magic and delicious drinks maker. Very friendly place. Will be back again to taste all drinks.

One of our favorite neighborhood spots to cozy up, and enjoy a cocktail. The bartenders are also super nice, and welcoming. I forget her name, but she’s always so kind and makes amazing drinks (sorry I’ll edit this once I remember it!). This cocktail lounge is absolutely on par with all other top cocktail bars in West Michigan. A true gem.

Fellow Yelper Karsen told us to try the Dashi back here, so we decided to stop by on a whim this past Saturday to try it out. Pork broth might sound weird as a chaser for whiskey, but the saltiness of the broth works much like the sourness of a pickle back - it completely takes away the bite of the alcohol! It is also served warm, perfect for a chilly day. We ordered a total of 26 dashi/pickle back shots lolololol. Shout out to Rachel; a true girls girl; the sweetest bartender that made our experience all the better! Thank you for dealing with our loudness and shenanigans!

Service: RACHEL!!! She is the best bartender. Very down to Earth and attentive. Love her vibe. She made the experience special for us. Food: we had the Dashi shots and then the same whiskey with pickle back. Rachel gave us some pickles as well. Ambiance: love this small 'speak easy' vibe spirits bar. They are connected to a larger brewery 7 monks. The bar itself is cozy with a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in town and see Rachel!!

2 James is the hidden gem I've been trying to gate keep for years. But have done it unsuccessfully - as now, everyone I know loves it as much as I do. The cocktails are creative, seasonal, well balanced and stiff. The ambiance is sexy and quaint. It is moderately priced and the bottles you can purchased are also aesthetically pleasing for my bar cart. Note: The absinthe fountain is not for the weak of heart, but it is for you if you're not a kill joy. The gimlet!!! The staff!!! I love you!!!

This place came highly recommended and we had to check it out. The manager Rachel immediately introduced herself to us and offered complimentary tastings of some of their amazing spirits including: rum, vodka, gin, bourbon, as well as coffee liqueur and ale brandy. We ordered a few cocktails (jungle bird, painkiller) and were highly impressed. The overall atmosphere is eccentric and chill paired with amazing drinks and service. Highly recommend checking this place out for a date night or a night out with friends.

Stopped in for and afternoon cocktail on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. The bar tender was friendly and did an awesome job on our drinks. I got the pain killer, it was strong but I loved their version of the drink.

As regulars at 7 Monks, my boyfriend and I had noticed the beginnings of the Two James Spirits tasting room coming together in the side room pre-COVID. Then during our first COVID times visit, it looked like it was close to being open. I hadn't seen any official opening announcements, but when we stopped in for dinner the other night, we were told it was the first week they were open. So we decided to check it out! We ended up having a great time. Our bartender Alex was incredibly helpful and knowledgable. He had great recommendations and helped guide us through the extensive cocktail menu. Two James is a distillery based in Detroit, so it was fun to be able to try some of their products in a new setting. The main spirits for the cocktails are whiskey, gin, vodka, and rum. We tried a little bit of everything! The Lona's Earthen Jar, Peter Piper, Golden Earth, and Le Baron were some favorites. These cocktails are so unique and interesting, it was delightful to try some new things. The Le Baron was definitely one of the most interesting cocktails I've had maybe ever - it is a savory drink that smells like ramen but is so delicious - really weird but very good. If you're a fan of fun drinks definitely stop in and try some of Two James' spirits! You can mix and match flights and they have pricing based on how many tastings you get. I really loved their vodka, barrel aged gin, and the rum. They even have absinthe, which I'd never tried before. It's super botanical with a very strong anise flavor. If you're not a black licorice fan, stay away! The vibe in this tasting room is funky and a bit eclectic, with some fun murals and art and topiaries hanging from the ceiling. The seating is varied and the whole area is pretty cozy. We felt very comfortable hanging out here for a few hours chatting with the bartenders and learning about all the drinks. You can order food from 7 Monks online for takeout, and they'll bring it right to your table. Definitely get here soon, as I'm sure it'll be super busy as people start finding out about this hidden gem!

The Detroit based distillery's first offsite tasting room, this Grand Rapid's location has an amazing staff and a beautiful, hip tasting room. You can find all your whiskey staples here and more. Try the absinthe, which is distilled using real wormwood or their award winning Catcher's Rye. Their menu is seasonal and hand crafted by the staff - The best of the best is what makes the cut. Regardless of what your drink of choice is, you're sure to find something you love when visiting.

Casey is the MAN! The only bartender i want to be served by. The bar is legit and the place to be. If i could give more than five stars i unequivocally would! Keep the drinks coming....cheers!!!

I am very disappointed by my experience. I went with a friend and sat waiting for 10 minutes before a bartender brought us half full water glasses and told us that he would be right back because he was "making drinks". 20 minutes later, he finally came over and didn't apologize for the wait and just asked if we knew what we wanted. After ordering, we waited another 20 minutes while he did sidework and eventually got around to our drinks. When our drinks arrived, they were not very good and we ended up cashing out and leaving without finishing them. We both work in the service industry so we would have understood if it was busy, but we watched as he talked to his buddy's at the bar and actively ignored us. I've never written a bad review but I am so stunned by the way we were treated that I felt it was necessary. When we asked to cash out immediately after receiving our drinks, he brought over 2 "buy one get one 50% off coupons", yet never acknowledged the wait time or even apologized. This was our first experience and we will not be going back.
