This place is kitschy-cool, which is very welcomed by me. I can't bring myself to sit on one more salvaged studio stool, at another railroad tie counter, under the light of an edison bulb. The feeling is roomy and relaxed, but still a little more 'special' than going to pub-style bar. Love that you can stop by during the day for a cheap cup of joe and a Dough donut (much preferred to Elsie's Donuts nearby, where some of the flavored glazes are artificial tasting and ABC gum-like in texture).
Most of the staff here are great - really friendly, capable, problem solving individuals. However, there's one bartender who is a bit sullen - lacking in hospitality, and can really dampen the spirits (pun!) in the place. The last time my companion and I were there, we arrived around 4pm on a weekend with the intention of getting a few drinks before dinner at Gloria's (No. 3). Upon sitting down in the empty (but for two other customers) bar, we ordered our drinks, and spontaneously decided to also order a donut from the selection sitting on the counter. The bartender made a to-do about it. Like, "I don't even know what to put this on or what to use to grab it. I don't usually deal with this stuff. Is a couple of cocktail napkins fine??" ("Perfectly fine!") We enjoyed polishing off the donut and our drinks, and a couple more customers sat down, and in that time,
we'd heard the same bartender give excuses to why he couldn't make a drink she requested a little less spicy than before (she obliged, "Ok, I'll have it the same as last time then.") We also tried and failed to make eye contact with the bartender, even when employing waving-hand gestures. Mind you, we're sitting at the 2/3 empty bar counter. When we did finally succeed, we asked for our bill instead of another round, and took ourselves to King Tai, where Happy Hour was getting started. (Two Saints also currently doesn't offer a Happy Hour, which is an interesting choice.)
