A Cute Cheese Shop on H Street — And More Closures in December | Eater DC

"Set to close its tasting room on Sunday, December 21, this destination for orchard-to-bottle hard ciders opened on the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve in 2021. As the owners put it, "It is time we trade the early morning markets and late night tasting rooms in for time with our family," per a message on social media." - Tierney Plumb

Came here for Steezy Burger, and decided to try the Cider. The Burger was worth the two hour drive. Will do it again. Of the four ciders available, three were fantastic. Will return for cider too. My son took a photo of a car in the parking lot and wanted to share it.

As a big fan of cider I decided to try this place out with my friends for our weekly " try a new place to see if we like it." I had heard this place was relatively new and it was between a few other options in the area. I will also preface and say I am not a fan of beer which is why I decided to try this place. They did have some beers available as well as a limited edition cider called "Bee Sting" which is classified as a honey Meade cider. This one was unique in both smell and taste as you can feel the buzz from the Meade but the honey balances out the alcoholic flavor for a well-rounded pallet that is a bit on the sweeter side. I also bought a long two other friends who are beer drinkers and my best friend who is not really all that into alcohol in general but always willing to try new things. We each got four flights at $12 a piece which isn't bad and you get for slots with this. Their ciders are a bit on the dryer side with only two semisweet ones. They also have one that drinks like a beer and another one that drinks like a wine. This place has been open for about 3 years now and the staff are friendly and helpful. The location itself is beautiful and very serene. They also have vendors that they work with who sell food separately outside of the tasting Room in the front as you enter. I would love to see a wider range of offerings on the food side of things as well as a healthy rotation of other options to choose from in terms of ciders. This is the one thing that other places such as breweries have going for them now. I'm hoping in time this place will reach the same status and traffic as say for instance Lone Oak in Olney. While the offerings weren't really to our liking we recognized the effort and time put into making this place a great option for cider drinkers.

Google
Charming cider works with lots of space outdoors and under cover. Cider was really great (I especially enjoyed the Dry Hopped one and the one aged in wine barrels). Also, while I no longer require it, the presence of not just a changing table, but extra diapers and wipes takes "kid-friendly" to a whole new level. Nice touches all around.

Google
I came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday on a super cold weekend. The inside is super cute and warm. I love the high ceilings and woodwork. Sadly, I was not a big fan of the drinks. I only liked one cider although it was super sweet. And they are parented with a brewery whose beers were offered but they all tasted pretty flat and didn’t have much flavor to them.

Google
We went on a Sunday afternoon. We tried five ciders and two of the silly yak beers. The beers were solid, and we liked three of the five ciders. It was a nice place and we enjoyed the vibe. They had ‘steeze burger’ pop up, the burgers were amazing.

Dominic D.

Google
They have food trucks on some days, otherwise bring your own picnic. Several of their ciders are sufficiently dry. There is enough room for the kids to kick a ball outside. They face stiff competition from some of the beer farms in the area. All around a decent choice for a nice afternoon.

Google
I’m always up for trying a new hard cider to add to my personal stash and the Bee Sting was a winner in my book. Just as the name implies the dry cider will give you an instant buzz but the honey mead will level out your palate and leave a lingering sweet taste that will have you eager to take another sip. Besides cider tasting there is also axe throwing lanes available on the property for a group bonding moment. To be safe I highly recommend that you do this before your tasting. Full disclosure, this is a pretty hefty drive if your coming from Northern Virginia or DC. So if you go, make sure to go on a weekend during the day, so that you won’t feel rushed.

Google
Tasty and refreshing is how we describe Two Story Chimney Ciders at Two Story Chimney Ciderworks. What an amazing place tucked away in Montgomery County. The sprawling grounds offered much needed shade on a hot day. The staff, Tommy and Ariana were lovely, welcoming, informative and a delight. The ciders were all so good! We had a flight and shared a bottle of the limited Cherry Foraged & Farmed. 🍎 Sweet Tart 🍎 Proper Dry 🍎 Ruby Red 🍎 Over the Falls There’s a taste for every taste. Chilled, quenching and delicious. I liked each offering. With limited Cideries in Maryland, we are so happy to find this lovely Cidery. We recommend adding them to your weekend plans. Thanks for taking great care of us and we look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
two story chimney was an absolute blast to visit and i'll miss it. The inside house has a great selection of ciders to try out and plenty of space to sit. The outdoors area is expansive and again has more places to sit inside the train cars. When we visited, we brought a board game and played it outside and it was a great experience. Lastly there's axe throwing as well. One of the best spots to practice. Plenty of space to run around for the kiddos and hula hoops, plenty of seating and great ciders to try. I'll really miss this place.

Yelp
Wonderful place with tasty ciders and nice gluten free beer options. Put Silly Yak brewing into your GPS if they don't come up. A nice stop as part of your evening up to that neck of MoCo or a jaunt out if you live in that area. They also host the annual Maryland Cider festival. Quaint indoor space, lovely outdoor seating options. Staff is super nice. They say they have a food truck and to check their socials, but there's never anything posted there about food, so they might be a "hey, let's get food and go here" kind of place.

Yelp
I've loved stopping in over the years for delicious ciders. It's a major loss for the area that it's closing. They have sweet, semi-sweet and dry ciders. All very well produced. The servers were friendly and helpful in making decisions on which cans to purchase to take home. The vibe inside is sort of barn vibes though comfortable. Outside there are tables that have expanded over the years. Two Stoey Chimney Ciderworks, you'll be missed!

Yelp
This place was so cute inside. Lots of tables outside and in the shade. We got our drinks quick since it wasn't too busy. You fill out your own flight sheet. Prices were good and they had a burger tent outside! The burgers were amazing!

Yelp
This place is a gem! We went impromptu after a little road trip for a flight! They have fabulous ciders & fun beers to try! One thing I would like to have seen (maybe they do it in the summer time) food! They had snacks, and it seemed they didn't mind outside food, but having little bites always makes me happy :) The bartender was friendly and information! It was our first trip with the Babe! They have highchairs and extra diapers & wipes in the bathrooms too! It has an open barn type concept and a spacious outdoor seating space in the front and back! Worth the drive

Yelp
You can find this place by searching for Silly Yaks Brewing. This is one of the few places in the US that is fully gluten free. Between cider and beer you have a good variety. We chose to try the flight of gluten free beer. Excellent taste of the hops and flavor. We took a matcha cider to go. Weekends are quite busy it seems with a food truck that provides burgers. They have no food in the bar. Friendly staff. There's a lot of seating outside, loved the containers converted to seating areas. You overlook the fields and that's a calming thing.

Yelp
We drove out to MD to try out this cidery and had a great time. They have outdoor tables and also indoor tables so it's easy to enjoy even on a hot day. They have flights so you are able to try various ciders and beers before committing to a larger glass. They were also very knowledgeable about the ciders and explaining which ones would be more sweet or dry based on how they were made. You can also bring your own food, or if it's a day with food trucks get from there. Overall, it's a great relaxing experience to try out some ciders with friends. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I am not a fan of dry cider, but I like coming here even though it is mostly what they serve here. I thought I only liked sweet ciders, but after trying their semi-sweet selections, it has been steering me in that direction instead and I love it. In the past I have had their Mon Amour, and Sweet Tart (both semi-sweet). On my recent visit I saw that they had Crab Tree (a semi-sweet cider) and Seasonal Beesting (sweet mead blended with a dry cider) on tap. I got to taste both, and they were really good. I opted to get the Seasonal Beesting. Now, I would actually get a growler of that alone. It was smooth and tasted just right. I am not sure how long they will have this one on tap, but I will certainly go back just to taste it again. Visited October 2024.

Yelp
Great Service and kind bartender. I was here for a pop up and it was absolutely delicious. They have a great outdoor area with corn hole and a fire pit. There's lots of outdoor and indoor seating. Although it is a cidery, it is still family friendly! Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
What a wonderful night to drink cider and and throw some axes. We even grabbed amazing burgers!! Wonderful country views, very serene.

Yelp
What used to be a tobacco farm, this place has been converted into a cidery with an apple orchard. We came here to check out a pop-up, but the place offers a cider tasting, axe throwing, various events throughout the month (such as Teacher HH, farmers market, pop-up restaurants, etc.). There are some picnic tables as well as a shipping tank that's converted into more of a shaded seating area. Plenty of parking in their gravel lot. +features various events throughout the month +ample parking

Yelp
I had the best time visiting Two Story Chimney! It was a decent drive from Rockville and totally worth the road trip. We went here to visit the adoptable dogs from Key to Lions Heart and stayed for the drinks. They have a dog adoption event monthly so if petting sweet dogs is your thing be on the lookout for that. This cidery also has a large green space. They are very dog friendly and kid friendly. I brought my baby in her stroller and she had a great time outside. Since it was my first time visiting I ordered a flight. It is so cool that they offer both cider and beer. Additionally their beer is gluten free! That was such a treat for my gluten sensitive husband. We LOVED the cider. The ciders are much dryer than typical cider which agrees more with my taste buds. The beers taste fantastic and you would never know they are gluten free. I was so impressed with the selection and will definitely be back for another round. I do wish that this business had vegan food options. Steeze Burger has a stand but they do not offer a vegan meal. That would be the only room for improvement I could suggest. Thank you for a wonderful experience and I look forward to driving out to try more ciders and beer!

Yelp
LOVE this place!!! Ambiance is off the charts--rolling hills, cute picnic tables and Adirondack chairs surrounding fire pits. It's something right out of Hunting Lodge Weekly. It's peaceful, engaging and delightful--the perfect place to grab some cider, bring a picnic, and just enjoy yourself with friends. For your first visit, I recommend going with either a cider flight or a gluten-free beer flight to see which ones resonate the best with your palate. Then keep coming back to enjoy the good beverages and good times. FYI, on premises food options are limited so be sure to bring your own vittles or check their calendar to see what food trucks/pop-up stands are coming that week. At the time of this writing, my all time fave, Steeze Burger, is there every Sunday afternoon!
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful indoor space, wide open outdoors space, what more could you ask for? There's a fun kids' area, too! Ciders are great, as long as you're not seeking a super sweet option. They do all have a different flavor profile, which is nice. Four stars instead of five because there's no non alcoholic option, not even an apple cider or lemonade. That would hit it out of the park. It's a great place to bring a picnic and enjoy an afternoon. Super easy parking and easy to spot from the road.

Yelp
Great cidery that's very close to home for me. I think I lucked out. If it's nice outside and you want to enjoy some scenery with some ciders definitely come here. We came here once while they had pumpkin picking and spent the day taking pictures of our little one among the pumpkins while enjoying tasty beverages with the dogs. The ciders is not sweet and to me that's fantastic. It's mostly dry and crisp ciders. I especially love the blackberry one, but I encourage ordering a flight to try as many as you can. There are rotating food trucks here. The schedule of food trucks is published weekly on instagram and facebook. While I recommend sitting outside in glorious fall weather, their tasting room is gorgeous as well. So glad I found this cozy neighborhood spot. P.S. for parents not only is this place kid friendly but both the men's and women's bathrooms have a nice changing are with wipes and diapers. Super impressive!

Yelp
Wait...a brewery/cidery for us GF folks in Moco??? Yessss!!!! What a great local spot to check out. If you're in Damascus or nearby area and want a refreshing gluten free drink option, or just enjoy cider, Two Story is the place to go! The ambiance and overall setting is beautiful. They have cider and Silly Yak beer, and they all taste amazing. Kirsten is such a great person and makes sure you have everything you need and can answer any questions you have. We have been before, but today we wanted to come for beer and to try Steeze burger. Nothing like beer and burgers that taste amazing and don't make you feel bloated. They offer flights at $12 for 4 cider options (each are 4 Oz pours). Amazing price and option. I really enjoyed the amber beer and the red piquette cider. It's definitely a must try! We can't wait to come by during warmer months and see what food trucks come by.

Yelp
Good ciders. We loved that we could pick our own choices for the flight and do a mix of cider and beer. All the beers are gluten free. Friendly servers helped us set up corn hole. It was a really beautiful day to be outside. I left it at 4 stars simply for the fact that we weren't the only family but there didn't seem to be much for kids. And no options beyond water for them to drink. Our do pretty well just climbing trees or running around in the grass but even just some simple stuff for them to climb on would have bumped our review to 5. There was a group here doing axe throwing that seemed to be having a good time!

Yelp
We drove by this place and wanted to check it out after the holidays. They have a variety of dry and semi-sweet ciders and the flight goes in order from sweetest to driest. The ones available when we went were in order: mon amour, sweet tart, proper dry, and ruby red. I'm not usually a fan of dry ciders but this is where they shine. The proper dry is crisp and has excellent flavor. The ruby red is also fantastic - the citrus complements the apple hops nicely. I also enjoyed the mon amour but personally, the ruby red was my favorite. The setting is very nice as well. They have wood tables and outside seating in the warmer months. What would really make this place shine would be some food options. Hopefully they'll have some snacks or a food truck option available soon.

Yelp
5/27 Edit: I recently spoke to Tommy. I believe this situation has been resolved and do appreciate thier effort in fixing and helping me and my family with this unfortunate situation that has sense been made right. The florist they did this event with apparently mad e duplicate page and had charged us for the event. We have since been refunded and I really do feel ciderworks was through under the bus when it came to this other business mistake. I feel so much better about the customer service that was provided both in email from Kenzie and the phone call from Tommy. When I am able to again I look forward to coming to two chimneys and actually having some cider.

Yelp
I came here for a friend's casual birthday get together yesterday. The setting was exactly what we were looking for - spaced out, outdoor seating with an indoor option if the weather turns. The tasting room is beautiful with the woodsy interior. We all enjoyed our ciders (I got a flight). All of their ciders lean on the drier side with two semi-sweet options. From what I can tell, not many people have discovered this spot yet. Yesterday was lovely out and it never seemed to get crowded.
google avatar

Yelp
I drive down 650 regularly, and was excited to see a new cider spot. I sometimes pop down to the Blue Valley, visiting cideries there, and having something close was a surprise. The ciders are surprisingly very good. I usually like sweeter ones, but their sweet ones were just good. The dry types, however, were fantastic. They have, on tap, four different ciders, and a fifth available in bottles. They're all about 6% abv, so not too strong. A fight costs all of twelve dollars, such is really reasonable. My fave is the ruby red, which is dry with a hint of citrus. Definitely leaving with a four pack. The entire barn area is beautiful, and currently new -- it actually smells of freshly sawn pine lumber. Huge ceilings, fans, fireplace. Very nice. They could do to add some food or charcuterie to the availability, especially as there's so little within a few miles. Be cautious getting in, driveway is easy to miss. It's almost across from the Etchison convenient store -- and it's really not Gaithersburg. Lol

Yelp
They staff was super friendly and explained the ciders and flavors. Over the falls and the blackberry was amazing. This place is super cute to go on date or with friends!

Yelp
The ambiance - beautiful pastureland - can't be beat. Go quick to snag limited releases. Even more fun when there's live music. Bring your pups too!

Yelp
A perfect place to hang out on a fall day. The ciders are a drier, wine style, which is what I prefer. The Proper Dry and the Mulberry were our favorites. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating (mostly picnic tables outside), with string lights to make things feel festive as the sun went down. I went with another family after going apple picking at Waters Orchard. We brought our preschool-age kids, who had a blast visiting with dogs, running around the field, and playing with the cidery's the cornhole set. The best part was the friendly, chill vibe -- it wasn't absolutely mobbed the way some breweries get these days, even though there were plenty of patrons the whole time. Also, PhoWheels, the food truck that evening, was fantastic -- fast, friendly, and delicious.

Yelp
Two Story Chimney Ciderworks represents everything that's right with the brewery/cidery/winery experience--great product, ample indoor and outdoor seating, pet/family friendly, and passionate and friendly staff. There's a bit of something for everyone, including beer, ciders, and whichever local food truck happens to be parked out front (on the specific day I visited, there happened to be an ice cream truck and the prolific Steeze Burger available). It's the perfect way to spend an afternoon outside, drinking with some buddies!
google avatar

Yelp
There's some great breweries in the AGR & this place is a welcomed addition. The cider is so yummy. It tastes like sparkling wine. It's bubbly, crisp, refreshing, not overly sweet or dry. The beer is gluten free. Aptly named Silly Yak, get it?! LOL. Also delicious. There's lots picnic tables, yard games, an indoor tasting room with clean facilities. They host food trucks on the weekends & they allow outside food & deliveries. They even have a private event space that can be booked. Highly recommend this gem.
google avatar

Denise D.

Yelp
I drove by this place over the weekend and saw the open sign! I had no idea it was even here! I had to go! And what a gem! This place is brand new so it is just getting started! It has such potential! The setting is a old farm! Inside and outside seating! They only had two ciders left on tap by Sunday afternoon. Both were delicious! You can even get a four pack to go. The owner and staff were so friendly and helpful! The plan is to have food trucks and music... I can't wait to see what else Tommy, the owner will do with this place! I highly recommend!!

Yelp
The ciders here are great, and the location is beautiful. It's a great place to relax on the weekend.

Yelp
This is such a wonderful Cidery!! It's located in the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve in the area of Etchison. It's a little hidden gem in the agricultural area of MoCo. First off, the location is pretty much breathtaking. The main tasting room is beautifully done with high ceilings and lots of wooden beams. It's spacious and has even more room outside! There is also the sunset barn for more covered tables and space to hang out. The ciders are traditional and mostly on the dry side which I absolutely love!! My favorite cider is Over the Falls, with notes of oak and red wine from the aging process. I had my birthday get together, here in the fall when it first opened and it was such a good experience. The owner and staff are super nice and warm and are so knowledgeable about the ciders. They now have local food trucks that come by on the weekends as well as Thursday trivia and Gluten-free Fridays. It's our go to place to hang out on the weekends if we want a low key place to chill and enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery!! Don't wait, check this place out ASAP!!

Yelp
I can see what this place is going for and they make a valiant attempt. They admittedly are trying not to be Angry Orchard, and they definitely succeed in making a non-sweet cider. Unfortunately, for me, their offerings just aren't juicy enough. Best of the bunch by far is the one aged in red wine barrels. Nice balance of flavors. If nothing else it's good for a quick stop as it's a pretty setting and the staff are super nice.

Charlene D.

Yelp
So unique! I Didn't know I loved cider til I came here. The "proper dry" and the "over the falls" are great for wine lovers. And Sister Axe Throwing is moving here!!!

Randi W.

Yelp
Great cider, lovely scenery all around. Staff was kind and helpful. Was the perfect place to hang out on a fall day.

Kevin R.

Yelp
Wow! Brand-spanking-new tasting room and some absolutely delicious ciders on tap. Highly recommended for a quiet afternoon enjoying some high-quality libations.

Hunter K.

Yelp
Amazing environment both inside and out, the employees are more than welcoming. And the ciders are amazing! I will be back soon for sure!
