🚘 Plenty parking and a warm welcome despite arriving really late in the night after a six hour drive from Yorkshire.
🛌 I stayed in the turret (?) room 117 for one ☝🏼 night, which was apparently a free upgrade on arrival, whether or not that’s true, it definitely makes you feel good… It was a spectacular room, not much window space, but that is forgivable given the size and unique features about the room, there is bottled water, not every hotel gives free water out. There are coffee pods and good features in the room to make the stay easier. Eg safe, iron etc. There is a view to the sea from this room.
☎️ When I first booked the hotel, the hotel went out of the way to call me and make a reservation for dinner. I hadn’t quite realised what I’d signed up for, and found it rather odd that I had to make a reservation. I thought it might be due to the remoteness of the hotel and to help with catering facilities, but on arrival, I now realise this was due to the quality of the service/food on offer.
🥘 the food was exceptional! The menu is small and limited, which I think is a good thing, it stops you feeling overwhelmed. The taste was incredible, although I would say the portions were rather small. This is a sacrifice for quality, presentation and service. The restaurant itself is rather small, a little dark, although it was November and 9 pm at night, but it did have a lovely atmosphere. I felt rather awkward in my tracksuit, eating alone, (business trip) but I didn’t feel uncomfortable and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
🍻 There are two bar areas. One is a small snug and the other is long and open next to the reception. It was possible to grab a few drinks after dinner late into the evening again, possibly out of season, the bar was almost empty, but the waitress was super friendly and super helpful and she made every attempt to return and serve me every 30 minutes or so, despite nobody else being in the bar area and having to be of service in two different parts of the hotel.
🧾 Before I even had fallen asleep, working late into the night, I checked my emails to find a check out early email from the hotel. I clicked it and then I could already see all the things I had eaten/drunk; I could pay for my invoice early. I did this and it avoided any unnecessary delays in the morning. I thought it was a great idea if only so many other hotels offer this service.
🏃🏻 Checkout was super fast and friendly, but I do believe hotels could do a little bit more to make this experience more thoughtful/memorable other than handover your keys pay for your bill. On arrival, there was an upgrade, so how can hotels offer something similar on departure? Even if it is a small, token gift, a small bag of sweets for the car. It makes the stay/experience more memorable.
☝🏼 I was only here for one night, and less than 12 hours, but it was worth every penny (£131 room / £70 food and 4 beers).
🏆 I would stay here again without hesitation. The only reason I have given this four stars is simply because I don’t think I stayed there enough to explore all aspects of the hotel to warrant five.
