Tyddyn Llan

"A husband and wife team run this attractive, slate-built former shooting lodge in a pretty valley location. Start with a drink in an antique-filled lounge or on the terrace overlooking the lovely gardens, before choosing from wide-ranging menus that mix classic and modern dishes. The cooking is satisfying and wholesome, and the wine list offers a good breadth of options. Service comes from a friendly team and there are elegant bedrooms for those wishing to stay the night and explore the area." - Michelin Inspector

This is a superb place to visit for food and ambience. Located close to the A5 it is accessible but rural.||Last night we enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu. All were good but our favourites were the John Dory and the tomatoes. The latter a real taste bud surprise.||The tasting menu breakfast an under the radar success. Take your time over the breakfast!

A stunning setting, I felt myself relax just driving down the drive. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived and when we thought things couldn't get better - they did! Our room was newly refurbished and felt fresh, our stay was during the hottest day of the year and it did get a little stifling during the night.||The menu was innovative and excellently executed, we had the six-course tasting menu and every mouthful was delicious. We were also treated to a new and exciting experience … a breakfast tasting menu – again not to be missed.||However, what made our stay unique and memorable was the kindness, friendliness and professionalism of each and every member of the team at Tyddyn Llan. Just returned from a night stay at Tyddyn Llan which is a lovey modern restaurant with rooms. The rooms have been nicely redecorated also with lovely toiletries and homemade shortbread. As I only eat fish they prepared a menu especially for me and it was printed out. We had booked the 6 course but you also get Amuse bouche and an avocado dip with chicken skin. All the food was amazing but we particularly enjoyed the bread and mushroom butter, tuna tartar, John Dory and the desserts were spot on. The wine flight was well matched with each course and good value. We also loved breakfast it’s a taster menu and the items are of top quality. Staff were all very knowledgeable and helpful about the food and wines. Everyone was wonderful. Maria the manger and Gareth the chef have made this restaurant with rooms really special. We also had excellent service from Osian, Angharad, Darcy and Emily. Thanks everyone 🥰

We were the first guests to stay at Tyddyn Llan after the refurbishment of the public areas, and what a wow factor! They are beautiful, a wonderful freshness with a nice relaxed feel to the place. I could see myself curling up with a book by the fire if we were to stay longer than 1 night. ||Our room was clean and comfortable, if dated and tired, the building is undergoing an extensive refurbishment and one of our party stayed in the newly decorated room, which is stunning, I look forward to returning when there are more rooms sorted as that's my only real critique. ||Our meal in the restaurant was stunning, every course was packed full of flavour, and you can tell the chef takes care in procuring his ingredients, and breakfast the next morning was fantastic. Well done to the new team, we can't wait to come back when there are more refreshed rooms!

Tyddyn Llan is in good hands. Fantastic tasting menu with some particularly excellent pastry. We stayed in a newly refurbished room whuch was extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated. I expect they'll have a star before long and it'll be well deserved.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay and will definitely be returning next year. We had a 10 course taster one night and 6 course taster the second night and the food was amazing and presented exquisitely. The five course breakfast was equally as impressive. The wine we were recommended really complimented the food we were eating. The service was really attentive and you really were made to feel special and nothing was too much trouble. It was fine dining and drinking but not stuffy at all. There was a lovely log fire to sit by which we were thankful for as arrived during the weekend storms. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Having stayed at Tyddyn Llan last summer after the first phase of refurbishment, we were excited to visit again following the extended closure in January. Walking through the front door, we were instantly greeted by a much brighter and fresher feel, almost as if the house was waking up again. The abundance of spring flowers in the gardens emphasised that. The lounges and bar are much brighter and more inviting, with comfortable seating. The pictures are more relevant and by a local artist - some of which are for sale.|However, we were very disappointed to learn that, despite the closure, there is still only one bedroom that has been updated and obviously that is very much in demand. It must be frustrating for the team that potential guests are being discouraged by the rather dated room photos online. As the communal areas are now complete, hopefully the new owner will want to accelerate the guest rooms before the tourist season begins. We did overhear other guests who were on return visits, so the food is definitely the main draw.|Make sure you book when offers are available, because the food is sensational and I’m sure the rooms will be hard to come by once refurbishment is complete.

Yelp
Not as good as we were expecting for the expensive prices. All the staff was lovely and nice, but not as detailed as they should be for a Michelin one star restaurant. We were seated in a pretty outside porch setting for our 1st round of drinks and 4 complementary nibbles - which were very good. However, the table had an ugly smashed and smelly cigar butt in the ashtray with it's wrapper. By the fourth time a server came by to attend to us without noticing it, we finally asked if they would take it away. We ordered a bottle of Bordeaux, but they brought two glasses with wine already poured in them - didn't know what to make of that. So 1/2 hour later we're invited inside to our table. Then they bring an unopened bottle of Bordeaux. We didn't want to consume more than one bottle of wine for the evening, so we explained that we had ordered a full bottle of wine beginning with our 1st drink order. So they opened the bottle and poured 2/5 of it out before bringing it to the table. I don't know - maybe it was a lost in translation thing, but it seemed an awkward way of doing things - and left us wondering if we got to have a full bottle as we had ordered. The bread basket was good and plentiful - and the butter was exceptional. Our 1st course was grilled scallops / and cured beef over greens and shaved parmesan. Both were excellent. There was a complimentary middle course of watercress soup which was exceptional. 2nd course was Pigeon with really nice local mushrooms and beans. The sauce was really good and so were the veggies - but the Pigeon was very tough. It tasted good (and gamey which was expected), but the toughness was surprising. The other dish was rack of local lamb, and was perfect. They ask served us a dish of creamy scalloped potatoes which were just ok. One of our servers poured the last bit of wine in our glasses, but he actually left some wine in the bottle and walked away with it. Maybe he's trained to hold back on the last ounce of wine so the sediment doesn't get in the glass - but it wouldn't have bothered us in the least, so we felt we lost out on even more wine of the 25 £ (about $39) bottle. We passed on the dessert course, so can't comment on that. The fake, cheesy, battery operated table candles were a little surprising for such a nice place too. All in all, not sure it was worth the 115 £ plus the service/gratuity we left. We would have expected better attention to detail back home in the States for these kind of prices.
