Hostinec U Vahy - Review - Smíchov - Prague - The Infatuation

"In the year 1803, a few significant things occurred: the United States completed the Louisiana Purchase, Beethoven premiered his Second Symphony in Vienna, and the Napoleonic Wars began in Europe. And oh yeah, a pub opened in Prague that later came to be known as U Vahy. Run by the Pašek family since 1917, this bi-level spot was long a workers’ bar in the once-gritty Smichov neighborhood, hugging up against the Staropramen brewery. During the pandemic, the tavern shut down and the owners had some time to think. They renovated the interior, brought on a new chef, and reworked the menu, using the mid-19th-century Czech cookbook,Household Cookery Bookby Magdalena Rettigová, as inspiration. Today, this relaxed tavern serves up an array of excellent (and once-nearly-extinct) Czech dishes like garlicky snails, crispy frog legs, and tender beef tongue, plus more straightforward pub food paired with Staropramen beer, made just steps away." - David Farley

Amazing pub with such great history. The owner of the pub (Petr) is a SUPER guy. Really nice and provides great service. The food is really good as is the beer. This pub has been in the family for over 104 years. We really enjoyed our visit and will be coming back for sure. One thing that is GREAT about Prague is wonderful business owners like Petr. Thank you for a great visit!!

Restaurant was quite full when we came, but they found a table for us. Food was just what we wanted: perfect local food, simple with good taste. Good prices also. Nice local restaurant.

So cosy and authentic Czech restaurant. They have great food, the best Czech beer and the most friendly and welcoming staff we have met in Prague. The owner is the third generation and very enthusiastic to tell about and show his restaurant. It has become our new favourite place to visit in Prague. A very honest place.

In the more busy part of Andel you will find this little gem... It's very Czech in its expression.. both the interior, the food, the beer and the people... All very nice and authentic... Can highly recommend Got the ribs and the knee (with condiments), beer and kofola... Everything perfect.. A nice touch is the ice bath of the beer glasses. The beers are truly cold 🥶❄️❤️

First time in Prague, and this little pub has made a big impression. What an absolute little gem of place. Staff were so friendly, and couldn't fault the beer. If you around Andel please drop by, you won't regret it.

This place is SPECIAL! You will not find a more authentic place in this part of town. This is by far the oldest pub here, and it is clear that the couple who runs this tiny place do so with so much love and dedication. What's more is, THEY ARE ALSO SUPER FRIENDLY! ...The place reminds me of the house from 'UP': tiny, surrounded by such bigger, newer things, but staying true to itself. Instantly became one of my favorite places in Prague!
