20 Excellent Lunch Options in Downtown Chicago - Eater Chicago

"Beloved hot dog stand U.B. Dogs briefly shuttered at the end of 2018 but has returned to the delight of many. Everything on the straightforward menu is freshly made — from the stellar Chicago-style dogs to the burgers and fries — and that commitment to quality is the reason why the lines during lunchtime are frequently out the door. The house specialty “Joey dog” is a fan favorite; it’s topped with fries, garlic-wasabi aioli, and Tabasco sauce." - Jeffy Mai

Four Chicago-Area Restaurant Shutters to Know - Eater Chicago

"After eight years, U.B. Dogs is closing at 185 N. Franklin Street. Tribune writer Nick Kindelsperger is enamored by the hot dog stand as a quality Loop lunch option. The owner plans to open a new restaurant next year in the same space after closing U.B. by the end of 2018." - Daniel Gerzina

After a long flight I needed some soul food and was looking for a spot to get lunch that was close to my hotel. I looked around on google and found this place and I’d never had a true Chicago style hot dog before, and the reviews were good. Normally I am a simple man when it comes to hot dogs. A hot dog, a bun, and mustard. That’s it. However, I decided to change it up though as I wanted the “true Chicago experience”. I ordered their 2 Chicago Dog special and it was absolutely magnificent. The bun was soft and warm, every topping enhanced the flavor of the hot and juicy dog. And the fries were freshly made and crispy yet soft on the inside. It was perfect. And the hospitality was what you’d expect from a “mom and pop” shop. Overall an A+ experience and I will return someday.

This place is an institution! It's a wonderful lunch spot for a burger or hot dog, and french fries. Nothing fancy here, but it hits the spot every time! Small menu, but they do it all well!

Based on the name of the establishment, U.B. Dogs, I set my mind on stopping by to get a hot dog one day during lunch. The first time I came in here was rush hour so it was pretty busy and it just seemed like a lot to choose which hot dog I would prefer. Eventually, I wandered back and to my surprise was in AWE from the customer service to the quality of the food. One of the team members who stood alongside the cashier suggested I try an Italian Beef. So of course I took the recommendation and got one to my likings, dipped with hot peppers, alongside some fries. The food was amazing and I will most definitely be stopping here every so often on lunch breaks to refuel! This place is such a vibe!

Luckily, we got there at 11:30 am before the lunch crowd. No line but when we left, line out the door! Excellent variety of hot dogs and sides.

Hands down best burger I've ever had. The impossible patties are unreal and somehow what they did with them make them even more incredible than other places I've had them. Highly recommend. Will be back soon. Owners are awesome people, too! Update 12/3/19: went to Vegas and visited the coveted Gordon Ramsey burger joint and had his impossible burger. Couldnt believe how it didn't come close to UB's burger. Shocking how Gordon stays in business or calls his burger world famous. Sorry Gordon, That's a Ub distinction.

My first meal in Chicago and I wasn't dissapointed! The staff is INCREDIBLY friendly and the food is delicious! The best Chicago hot dog I will probably ever have. Overall, an excellent place to pop in and enjoy your meal. I will be back!

The atmosphere here is fantastic! Cheap hot dogs, great menu selection, wonderfully energetic staff. I tried the Joey dog, and while I didn't care much for the garlic-wasabi aoili, I would definitely go back and try some other options. The fountain drink machine had some great cream soda as well.
