Restaurant Closures in Seattle for April, 2025 | Eater Seattle

"A small operation that had been operating inside a Capitol Hill ghost kitchen is moving to a brick-and-mortar location in Everett after May 3, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. Owners Lee and Patrick Pharaoh said they were moving partly to provide a place for customers to sit down and also because of safety concerns — orders had been stolen, and patrons from nearby nightclubs have caused problems. The spot is one of the few places in Seattle serving South African food." - Harry Cheadle

The Best African Restaurants in Seattle

"Meaning “I am because we are,” the recently opened Ubuntu Bar and Grill specializes in southern African cuisine. The menu is inspired by the braai (barbecue street food) culture of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and beyond. Peri peri chicken and spiced lamb chops grilled to perfection are paired with sides like grilled corn, chakalaka (a spicy vegetable relish), and coconut rice. Save room for malva pudding, a sweet, caramelized pudding made with apricot jam and topped with custard. Food is currently available for take-out and delivery only." - Alicia Erickson

Where do I start? This was my first time visiting, and I was thoroughly impressed — from the service to the food! Shan was incredibly friendly and pleasant to talk to, and I felt welcomed the moment I walked in, which means a lot. The interior is beautiful, the food is delicious, and the service is excellent. I think I’ve found my new favorite place to eat in Everett. I highly recommend checking them out!

The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Patrick was super helpful and kind in teaching us about the different dishes and sides. We ordered the lamp chops, goat stew, and tilapia. Such a great experience and the prices for the amount of food you got was amazing.

Ubuntu Bar & Grill is an absolute gem! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and from the moment we walked in, we felt like we were in good hands. The owner, Patrick, was incredibly kind and hospitable—and knowing that he personally cooks all the food made the experience even more special. We were blown away by the flavors. The garlic steak was perfectly seasoned and juicy, the short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the plantains were the ideal balance of sweet and savory. Every dish was clearly made with care and passion. You can feel the love in both the food and the service at Ubuntu. Patrick has created something truly special here—we can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely loved our experience at Ubuntu Grill in Everett! The food was amazing - fresh, flavourful, and deeply authentic. The chef is Malawian, and you can truly taste the heart and tradition in every bite. We had the samosas, Nsiima, goat stew, and chicken wings. Each dish was spot-on and brilliantly done. The goat stew was rich and tender, the wings perfectly seasoned, and the Nsiima took us straight to Southern Africa. We’re already planning to go back often. Highly recommend!

Food was delicious, came here with my dad on a recommendation. New to the cuisine but had fabulous guidance. I must say, although the bread (Parotta) was amazing by itself, you gotta save it for the oxtail stew. We also got Peri Peri Chicken, Jollof, South African Yellow Rice, and Chakalaka. 10/10 will come again with the whole family next time.

This place is unique from the african art on the walls to the delicious food that won't be found anywhere else in Everett the plantains were mildly sweet that contrasted well with the light charring. The oxtail stew was delicious tender and flavorful. The grilled pineapple is a must try it's reminiscent of a great bread pudding. Nsima pairs with everything since it has little flavor but a thick mashed potatoes texture that is really pleasant. The dino rib is super tender and massive. The steak bites though large to be called bites were seasoned well and cooked to perfect medium. The turkey samosas are crispy and meaty with a roasted pepper forward flavor that is wonderful. The peri peri chicken has just the right amount of spice. The picanha was juicy.

10/10/10! First of all, this restaurant made provision for me as I was far away from the delivery location (I had to pay extra but it was worth it). The food? Divine. 10/10. I loved everything and highly recommend them. If you’re looking for some good South African/ Southern African cuisine while here, this is the place to be. I will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Not sure that this place is real. Placed a decently sized order early in the evening - an hour later the delivery driver said they turned him down and weren't taking orders. I called their number and no one picked up. Felt really bad for wasting the driver's time. Beware ordering and if you're willing to risk it then make sure you have a backup
