Ubuntu Street Café is a restaurant operated by Project Feast's Culinary Apprenticeship Program. As such, it's open briefly on a few days. The rest of the workweek is dedicated to training immigrant and refugee cooks for local work in commercial kitchens. I can not overstate the value of this program. That said, my review is devoted to Ubuntu's food.
It is outstanding. I've enjoyed ceviche, herby cucumber salads (topped, as I always hope, with sumac), and warming, meaty stews. When I visit, I tend toward small plates, but I have also appreciated the entrées. Today, I stopped by for esquites, which was tart and toasty. The menu rotates seasonally and as apprentices move through the training program.
Ubuntu Street Café is open Wednesday-Friday from 11am-1pm.
