Google
Extremely happy with my ramen experience at Uchiwa, the broth and the chasu pork had an amazing rich flavor and the meat was perfectly cooked and tender. It was exactly what I hope for in a rich Tonkotsu ramen. I will definitely be coming back!

Katia M.

Google
First of all, the service was excellent! I interacted with multiple staff members and they were all warm, friendly, and professional. Unfortunately, the food did not match the service. I got the vegan shio ramen and it didn’t have much taste at all. Maybe I was setting myself up for failure because most vegetarian ramen broths don’t pack as much flavor as the meat-based ones but this one felt especially disappointing. I had to add a bunch of the chili seasoning to give it some taste. My friend got a meat-based one but said his tasted very average too.

Google
I tried this place today for the first time. It's delicious. I had the Tonokotsu and found it super flavorful. The pork was delicious and fresh. The broth was rich and super flavorful - but not TOO heavy or greasy at all. The service was really friendly and the staff were knowledgeable. I will be back and think this is a lovely gem of a restaurant.

Rebecca S.

Google
Second time at this ramen shop, the tonkatsu ramen is very delicious, but also very very rich. It's a good size portion, so we don't order anything else. Staff is super nice and the food comes out really quick. Will be going back to try the other ramen broths.

Google
This is my go to for Ramen in Marin if I'm I can't make it into Uchiwa has a simple Ramen menu just like the Ramen shops in Japan. They specialize in Ramen and the atmosphere inside of the restaurant is quaint and inviting. I had an order to go and keeping the soup separate from the noodles and other ingredients kept the noodles firm. I recommend Uchiwa Ramen !

Juan B.

Google
DISGUSTING Tonkotsu SOUP! I ordered online delivery. Me and my son could not even enjoy and finish. I hope I don't get sick. I still have the nasty burned and old oil flavors on my tongue. The meat disgustingly burned flavors. I used to go to this place before and never again. I never write bad reviews, but this is real a bad experience.

Google
Music is great. I don’t know why there aren’t more 5 stars. Compared to every other similar ramen restaurant they don’t charge automatic service fee, they aren’t more expensive than another restaurant I was comparing. I went to a place down the street for pho and they wanted me to pay additional money for more meat and they claimed their large size had more noodles and meat, but based on my experience that’s a lie. Anyways, the music and the interior design here is great. I hope this encourages more people to come enjoy the ramen here.

Google
Uchiwa Ramen in San Rafael is always a solid choice. But let me tell you, this time of year? It's especially good. Maybe it's the cooler weather making a warm bowl of noodles even more comforting

Yelp
First visit as it's so close to my daughter's place. Award winning ramen. I can see and taste why. The Karage had a light fried batter still crunchy with light flavors. The Asian salad with apple slices was sweet, slightly tangy, and very healthy. The ramen in the broth was fantastic. Service is spot on. Hats off service. Highly recommend this place when visiting San Rafael. It sits in the heart of downtown.
google avatar

Yelp
The spam musubi had no flavor. The ramen tasted old. I'm not sure how to describe what old tastes like? The pork was oddly chewy and the egg was cold even though the bowl of soup was hot. The staff was kind and the food was hot. It was also clean. 3 stars for kind and clean and hot! But that's where we stop this review. If you're not first, your third. I won't be wasting my time going back to this spot. For what it's worth, it looks like a local gem, just not my local.

Yelp
Man.. Went here when they 1st opened. My thought was "better to have them here than not.." they could survive San Rafael, but wouldn't last in Japantown. Fast forward, back from Japan and craving a slurp. Gave them another shot all these years later and the tonkotsu was seemingly blander than before. Presented well, service is decent, ambience is cool, but man, I just really wish this was better

Yelp
So glad they are open for lunch! I've been going there since they opened and they never disappoint! Food and service is excellent!

Yelp
Hands down the best ramen spot in San Rafael! We stop in everytime we are in town. The food is so good and the service is great! It's a cute little place with so much heart.
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
Drove by this place a few times. Always looked cute. Had the hankering for some ramen today so we went. Split a Takoyaki and had two ramen. Great presentation and taste. Carlos was a super kind and attentive server. We'll come back! 20% off with a stamped receipt from your previous visit.

Yelp
I previously loved this place. It was my go to ramen spot. But they've changed and today on the phone the general manager told me that I was wrong. I only order one thing here. Miso Ramen. Previously this came with a full egg. A few months back they switched to half an egg. Tonight I ordered via the app and paid $1.95 for a soft boiled egg. When I got home and opened my bag I was shocked that there was only 1 full egg. I was expecting 1.5 since it comes with 1/2 and egg and I paid for what I assumed was a full egg. Again the photo doesn't show that it's 1.95 for half an egg. Food is good but you can get a bowl of pho down the street that will last you 2 meals and double the meat for less. The pricing for ramen has gotten outrageous. I won't be back. And I don't recommend anyone being taken advantage of for the false advertising. Additionally I was put "on hold" 2 times and heard everything that was said about me. Not professional and rude to have me explain myself three times. Photo of the pricing and little broth provided.

Yelp
Food, service & ambiance ALL good. We live in Novato and try and come once every two or three months.

Yelp
OK so this is the place I wanted to try yesterday but went to Shige instead.. So I was happy to try this place. Last place to eat before heading back home. It was nice of them to accommodate last minute large party sitting. Staff was nice and restaurant was clean. Ordered some cucumber salad and spam masubi for starter. Cucumber salad was pretty good. Spam masubi was pretty tasty but spam to rice ratio was pretty laughable.. Ordered tonkatsu ramen and tried the miso ramen. Order didn't take too long and I understand it was a large order. Ramen looked yummy but when I went to taste the broth first.. I was introduced to Luke warm broth...boooo big no no for me. Large portion of veggies which I was happy with. Ramen noodle was not bad but felt like I was eating the typical store bought. Charsu was decent size and thicker than other place. With that bring said, it was like eating sliced pork meat, some what dry. Most of tye other places I had charsu it was fatty and melt in your mouth. Broth was not bad but lacked little seasoning. Miso ramen same same.. Not bad but miss the extra thick rich broth flavor. Over all it was not bad. Not the worst but doable. If I was in the area again I would not come back here for ramen.. Oh well at least I got to try a new place.

Yelp
I recommend going here if you're looking for a place with pretty decent ramen. I thought the broth was not as rich and creamy as I would have liked it (ordered the Tonkotsu ramen). My favorite part was the egg that was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the Shoyu Ramen with gluten free noodles and he thought it was okay. We're still on the look out for the best ramen place in Marin County, but we'll keep on looking. The service was great and very attentive. I also liked the layout of the restaurant. 7/10 overall.

Yelp
We love this spot the service is amazing the food is great and they play good music! Parking isn't hard and they recently added more things to the menu which was fun
google avatar

Martina M.

Yelp
Yeah, no. :/ Not sure what (if anything at all) went into making the tonkotsu broth. It was very bland and disappointing FYI if you order tonkotsu ramen with gluten free option: they swap the pork for tofu. Generally I wouldn't mind this but with the lack of flavor in the broth, the combo didn't work. Chicken karaage was okay but it definitely needed a squeeze of lemon (we asked for some slices). Sunomomo cucumber salad was also good, but it's hard to mess that one up.

Yelp
The real deal. It's nice to come back here and enjoy my noodle day. When I lived nearby I came more regularly. Now I happily enter this place with a special hunger today. The place was clean and well maintained and ready for customers with napkins out. The place settings were clean and sanitized. After sitting down we immediately had customer service at the table. Thank you Alice for making us welcome. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen and my wife had the Miso Ramen. Both awesome and have a beautiful presentation. THe staff was friedly and helpful. We really enjoyed this on or pass through town again. I want to return with our daughter. She loves this stuff. I will be happy to come back here again and look at these pictures. I posted and you'll. Understand why.

Robert G.

Yelp
Front of house staff is friendly, but food is super bland.. Basically "water noodles", not sure if it was an off night / bad batch, but this place was such a disappointment.. & to be charging $18+ for half an egg with water broth was a sad experience. The Tonkatsu & pork was so underwhelming, no flavor! No seasoning! can't remember a time where I have left 90% of my food at any establishment and asked for the check. We won't be back

Yelp
This evening, my fiancé and I were pleased to discover that Uchiwa makes pretty good vegetarian ramen. They also offer vegan and gluten-free options for those with dietary restrictions. They were pretty busy, and we're still being COVID conscious, so we sat right next to the front door allowing for proper ventilation. I'm not sure if they offer outdoor dining options. If they don't, it would be nice if they would consider that for the future, especially as summer is approaching. The ambiance was nice and chill, and the restaurant was very clean. The service we received was above average and attentive. Other than being unable to offer the egg in my ramen hardboiled- I opted to skip the egg entirely since I'm not a fan of jammy eggs; the meal was great. The extra spicy oil I ordered on the side was definitely extra spicy. Overall, Uchiwa is a solid choice for decently-priced ramen in Marin. I'll be back!
google avatar

Chanelle M.

Yelp
I can't say that I was impressed by anything other then the beer on tap. Its all about the broth when I eat noodles and the broth was a bit bland. I tried to doctor it up, but it didn't make it much better. I was glad that I ordered the chicken wings or we would have been extremely disappointed. Cute intimate restaurant with tables lining the wall and street metered parking.

Yelp
Our absolute goto for Ramen in San Rafael... Menu offers many tasty small bites and appetizers also! Ramen broths...superb! Staple in Marin County. Try them in Emeryville, too! Highly recommend! Cheers!

Peter P.

Yelp
We have been going to Uchiwa for a decade. It was the first real ramen place in Marin. They continue to do a great job all around. We are particularly happy about their excellent GF options.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't believe the hype! This place is GARBAGE!! THE WORST ramen I have ever had! One star for the folks who work there - friendly, smiles all around, not their bad! Fault on all the people of San Rafael who totally hype this place!! Noodle was not cooked!! Tonkutsu is supposed to be rich and "milky" - clear broth, zero umami. Came with half a soft boiled egg. Ordered extra and they gave me the other half! This place needs to be shut down so they can all go learn to cook ramen before they start serving it! San Rafael - the worst spot for ramen!
google avatar

Yelp
Found this restaurant by a quick Yelp search. My friends and I were looking to try something new. Parking was easy on the street. We didn't make reservations, but they were able to get the three of us seated rather quickly. Service was friendly and informative. Menu has a nice selection without being overwhelming. The salads were light, fresh, and delicious. I feel in love with the pickled cucumber salad. The kimchi was freshly made and had nice heat. The vegan ramen was good, not my favorite for the area, but solid. My friends husband liked his bbq pork Shyou Ramen. The Mochi was so good we ordered it twice. If I'm in the area, I will stop by and try more on the menu.
google avatar

Jaime N.

Yelp
I liked the shio broth here over the tonkotsu, which was light and had more soy in it than I would have preferred. The chashu was nice and thick. The egg...basic.
google avatar

Brian J.

Yelp
Possibly the most bland ramen I have ever eaten. Service was attentive and nice. Last time I will eat there.
google avatar

Yola S.

Yelp
Good but not great since my ramen was cold, I got up and brought it back so then I got a hot one. I love ramen the noodles were delicious and the soup as well Weird they charge you extra for spicy Good sake menu for sure Only one waitress for the whole restaurant

Jeannie C.

Yelp
I've been going to Uchiwa for years. Their Vegetarian Miso Ramen is what we always get, and it is delicious. However, a recent trip for take-out was a bit disappointing. It was the first time I added additional items to our ramen. I did not realize that for almost two dollars ($1.95), you only get HALF a soft-boiled egg. The menu should state $2 for HALF a soft-boiled egg. It comes already with half an egg -- my son's ramen had one whole egg. I was expecting one and one-half eggs. For my ramen, I ordered extra tofu. For $1.95, you get ONE extra cube of tofu. I'm not joking. My ramen had ONE extra cube of tofu when compared to my son's ramen.

Yelp
This place was amazing ! This young gentlemen attended and greeted me and had the most welcoming aura ever. He sat me down and set the mood for a great experience. The ladies there served me my delicious food and I was not disappointed!! I ordered a tonkotsu and it was definitely a wonderful experience for my taste budsthey have this delicious soda called Mango cream soda and I totally recommend this. 10/10 experience and 10/10 food!
google avatar

Zoe C.

Yelp
This ramen is pretty classic, nothing too crazy out of ordinary. They cook the egg just right and I appreciate a good soft boil! In terms of ambiance it is the best out of San Rafael ramen restaurants. The tonkatsu has a meaty flavor and not much other spice. Staff friendly and accommodating. Never had to wait to be seated here.

Ryan D.

Yelp
It's good, not my favorite ramen in town. They do have more on their menu than the others and I really liked the cucumber salad
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
This was my first time being here, and I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it was a letdown. The broth had almost no flavor and lacked the rich, savory taste I was expecting. Adding chili oil costs an extra $2. Overall, the price felt way too high for what you get. Not worth it at all, and I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Tony W.

Yelp
OK Ordered tonkatsu ramen.. Tantanmen ramen.. And chicken karage. Chicken karage was decent, nice, hot crispy, served with kewpie mayo Tonkatsu ramen broth was not very rich, oddly sweet. Tantanmen was more of a "mix" noodle with less broth. Broth had some peanut taste, but also wasn't very flavorful. Turkey/chicken mince was in some chunks but not particularly good.
google avatar

Maggie P.

Yelp
I couldn't stop thinking about the Kale Salad. I still can't! The dressing was superb (the part I can't stop thinking about) and the kale was tender. I'll definitely return.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Good ramen and nice staff! Also the are quick enough so you don't feel bored, but you also don't feel rushed.
google avatar

Kiyomi W.

Yelp
Heard so much great stuff about this place so I had to come try it for myself! Overall it's pretty good! My only complaint is that the egg is not a soy sauce egg and just a regular soft boiled egg. Everything else in my tonkatsu ramen was super flavorful and the noodles were so yum! They also have gluten free options which was so great that I could come here with someone who doesn't eat gluten! They have indoor and outdoor dining and the service is really good.

Caroline M.

Yelp
Take out tonkotsu ramen last Friday looked great. Texture if gluten free ramen surprisingly good. But ooh the broth was way salty and greasy. Disappointed.
google avatar

Dan L.

Yelp
I love Uchiwa. Food is great, staff is friendly, and the aesthetic is great for a date night. Been eating there for years and I plan to keep eating there in the future. I know it's out there, but the Chashu taco appetizer is one of the most delicious bites I can think of. Try it for yourself
google avatar

Sabrina V.

Yelp
The inside of this place was very modern and clean. My first impression is that I get very safe eating here during COVID. Very clean and social distanced, everyone wearing masks, their cleanliness on point. Also the customer service is great!! Their ramen broth was extremely flavorful, and all the added vegetables were cooked perfectly. I ordered the tan tan ramen, and I really liked how they used ground turkey instead of ground pork. Their appetizer list also really impressed me! They have a lot of tasty sounding appetizers and unique, not just basic gyoza. We ordered the spicy glazed wings which were FIRE! I really liked these wings, super crispy and flavorful. Good mix of tang and spice but not too sweet and no flavor is too overwhelming. I also liked the kimchi spam masubi as well. They have a great variety of items on their menu, and would definitely come back to try more ! Last thing, the music playing is such a vibe and brings a great ambiance. 10/10 spot, highly recommend

Robert N.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. Authentic and delicious Japanese ramen. Appetizers are outstanding. Staff was very friendly and helpful. A little loud when packed. Extra hot sauce...get it on the side and add it slowly, tastes, etc. It can be first and I like things spicy Will be back.
google avatar

Toni S.

Yelp
The cost to the quaint ambiance was very serine. My favorite dish is the tacos! Which are light and airy. I usually pick dishes that are light on my stomach. But heavy in taste! Thank you much! Will be in shortly! lol

I F.

Yelp
Fantastic food for a readable price. Service was easy and good! Warmly recommended for anyone who wants a good buissnes lunch !
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! The ramen servings are huge. They accommodate everyone. The broth is fantastic. It's comfort food.
google avatar

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Phenomenal Ramen spot in San Rafael! It's super hard to find a ramen spot that is gluten free friendly and Uchiwa very clearly labels which items are gluten free on their menu. Tonkatsu Ramen- Egg is a perfect soft boil with a slightly runny yolk and the vegetables are fresh. The broth was a little bit flat and didn't have that umami flavor compared to other well known ramen spots. However, I still enjoyed my ramen! Each ingredient was also arranged very carefully and precisely in the bowl for a fantastic presentation. Tantanmen Ramen- Ground turkey for those that aren't a fan of pork. Spam fries - If you like spam, this is a must order! We ordered a group doordash order, and they did a great job labelling each individual order. The broth is also packaged separately from the noodles so that the noodles don't get overcooked. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a delicious lunch take out option.
google avatar

Dee C.

Yelp
Sorry, absolutely didn't favor this food/place. The soup was so plain and bland and just not good flavoring, I didn't even finish my food and I was starving when we got there. In all honesty the best thing was the 1 pc of hi-chew candy I got after paying.... The bathroom was also out of paper towels so I used my shirt to dry my hand. Service was fine

Aurora B.

Yelp
Ordered three different ramens and all of them lacked flavoring of broth. The tonkotsu broth was so bland and the egg was not done properly. It was just half of a boiled egg. The pork belly seemed like a sliced pork with no usual fat or flavor.

Chris M.

Yelp
Carlos was a great server! We really enjoyed the Chicken Katsu. The Gyoza was really good too. We'll be back to try out the Tonkatsu ramen like Carlos had suggested.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Delicious ramen noodles with authentic taste and delicious flavors. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Kristi H.

Yelp
We ordered ramen through door dash and when it was deceiver we were missing half of the broth. I typically wouldn't call about door dash missing items but ramen without broth is a little weird. The manager who I spoke with went above and beyond and instead of offering to reimburse or credit, they delivered it themselves! They definitely went above and beyond expected service! Highly, highly recommended

Dick S.

Yelp
Love the thick miso vegetarian ramen. Friendly, prompt service with easy nearby parking.
google avatar

Morgan H.

Yelp
This is the best ramen I have had in a while. Sure, the prices are on the higher side but its worth it for the quality of ingredients and depth of flavors. I came with a group of 5 about an hour before closing time and the employees quickly put some tables together for us as some people left so that we didn't wait too long to be seated. Broth options are Shoyu, Shio, Tonkutsu, Miso, Vegetarian Miso and Vegan Shio. Our vegetarian and vegan friends were super pleased, and I was a big fan of the rich broth of the Tonkotsu. It's served with thick wavy noodles, 2 pieces of tender chashu, half a soft boiled egg, bean sprouts, spinach, mushrooms, a liberal amount of green onions and bamboo shoots. For $13+ it really is stocked full of good stuff. The Cucumber Salad appetizer was a favorite and something nice and light to cut through the heavy soup. The Goyza are fried and that would be the only thing I would have passed on because it didn't really add anything to the meal. Service was good and our drinks were always refilled, so I would definitely return the next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times. First time was 2019 and it was very good. We went a few times in the last year and it was just ok. Today we went and it was just bad. I got tonkotsu ramen and it tasted really off like the pork wasn't fresh and broth just didn't taste good. It was Tuesday so maybe they made it over the weekend? I asked if I could get something else which they were nice about. I got the veggie miso and sadly that was bad too. The broth just didn't taste good. We also got veggie gyoza and which was fried and the contents were so mushy I had no idea what was in there. Won't be going again.

Yelp
Was recently there for dinner ! Loved the environment and the food was truly delicious. Tonkotsu ramen was out of this world ! A true gem added to our community.
