Kisin

"When a Bib Gourmand chef from Tokyo arrives in Paris, the first thing he does is open a restaurant, tantalising and bewitching our senses. Diners will sample Japanese produce and genuine udon, made in front of the diner. Natural, additive - free ingredients, most of which are imported direct from the Land of the Rising Sun. Healthy, wholesome and succulent." - Michelin Inspector

This shop is small but it’s amazing! Since the restaurant is small it requires a reservation, but we got lucky and got a spot without a reservation. If you are looking to get appetizers i’d recommend to stay away from the tofu. It was much too sweet for our taste. But otherwise everything else was delicious! We got them the boeuf and it was amazing! The combo of udon and beef was just right and made the broth much more flavorful. But the star of the show was their desserts. The black sesame and matcha mochis were so amazing! They were both very flavorful and delicious. If your are a fan of Japanese food, this is definitely a place to put on your to-do list!

We were the only Americans! You must make a reservation via telephone, even for lunch. The restaurant is small! We had several starters. The most filling udon was the beef, it felt like it had a whole cow. The tempura udon was also quite large!

Google
Amazing food for people that love the asian and japanese cuisine. I warmly recommend the menu A with starters, Udon of your choice and desert as the perfect finisher. Perfect place if you are looking for price worthy food!

You’d better make a reservation; we were lucky that someone had canceled. The texture of the udon was really nice, but the broth was a bit bland for my taste.

Google
Amazing, freshly made udon noodle soup, the flavours were wonderful. We didn’t reserve but they managed to get us a table after a short wait , service was great as well. The dessert was unbelievable tasty as well! No picture, we ate it too fast!

Google
Everything here were exquisitely delicious. The starters: we had vegetables and karaage, were really tasty. The karaage though made from chicken breast was really tender and mouthwatering. We ordered hot udon bowls and they were all delicious. The noodles, the soup, the tempura, everything was perfect. The service was also on point. Overall it was a wonderful experience in such a nice restaurant with a great ambience. Too bad we were already full or would really love to try the rest of the dishes on their menu!

I went to the restaurant yesterday. The food was excellent. However, the service was not the best as I was treated differently. The Japanese waiter, who is very mature by age—I’m not sure if he is the owner or the waiter—treated other customers with a warm welcome, talked to them nicely, even smiled and thanked them all the time. But for me every time he served, he looked pissed and looked at me like he hated me maybe because I’m not Japanese or white (I wasn’t what was on his mind, but I guessed). And when he served, he moved things with an unpleasant attitude, like he wanted to point out that I was unwelcome there, but he couldn’t say. I thanked him in Japanese, English, and French but I got only an unpleasant look, and he didn’t say anything back unlike other tables they got the best services from him. The other waiter was fine. He talked to me like other customers. I have been to Japan many times but have never been treated like this; I have only experienced excellent service and a warm welcome every time, which is why I like Japan but the service from this Japanese restaurant here in Paris was not the same. I didn’t say anything bad or do anything bad to that waiter. If the restaurant had a camera, you could look into it and see how different he treated me compared to the others. It’s the worst service from MICHELIN star restaurant I ever had.

Absolutely fantastic food! The marinated tuna was delicious a good high quality tuna cut. My favorite was the cold udon with the duck broth on the side. It was fantastic I highly recommend it. This was one of my favorite restaurants during my visit in Paris.

Yelp
Okay. I'll admit an Asian eating Asian food while on vacation is a little stereotypical but this place is excellent. My girlfriend and I came for our last meal and were not disappointed. We picked their price fix menu and shared a lot of their small dishes and appetizers. The chicks karaage was fried to perfection and tender inside. The in house made noodles were springy and fresh. Incredibly attentive service in a very nice clean and traditional feeling restaurant. We got lucky and went early but they were turning people away who did not have reservations. If you're looking for good udon in Paris this is the place to go!

Yelp
We opened the door to the restaurant and a metal rod fell on our elderly parent's head. Everyone saw as we were the first ones in the restaurant. The guy in the photo took the rod and walked away. No sorry, no acknowledgement and proceeded to rush us to sit down so he can help the other customers. We told him that their metal rod just felled on our elderly parent's head and pointed to their door that showed where the rod fell off, and how come they did not take any interest in apologizing or seeing what was wrong. The man's answer, "sorry i dont speak english" and proceeds to help with the next customers and brushed us off. Absolutely horrible experience right off the bat. A Michelin star doesn't mean anything if this the service. An untasteful experience and we didnt even try their food.

Yelp
Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent, albeit hot and sweaty experience, despite the A/C dining room. Kisin opens at 11:45 am, is a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and also takes reservations. Some of the staff wear a mask and some are talented. ;) Ordered the tempura udon with a side salad and it was tasty. The side salad was light and refreshing. The tempura was lightly fried and came as a generous portion. The udon itself was delicious, although having hot udon during the heatwave made it a sweaty and sticky experience. 25 Euros for lunch after VAT and they take NFC carte bancaires!

Yelp
One of my favorite meals in Paris!! Kisin was recommended to me by my friend who recently visited Paris. She told me I should be able to get a seat without a reservation if I go right when it opens. I looove udon and really missed some Asian food (although French food is great), so I went one day before it opened and was stoked to be first in line! Unfortunately it was randomly closed that day. I tried again the next day and was able to get a seat! OMG - it really hit the spot. I got the tempura udon with tempura on the side. The broth was amazing, the udon noodle was the perfect amount of chewy. Every bite I took I couldn't help but smile and feel happy to be here. I also got the yuzu mochi for dessert which was expensive but a great finish to a great meal.

Yelp
Nice little spot for udon and ramen spot. Good service and all fresh to order food. I'd like to try more options when I get back to Paris, but I'd go back for the curry noodles today if I could.

Yelp
Best udon I've ever had!!! Still dreaming of it!! Do yourself a favor and enjoy the best Japanese meal outside of Japan! They have English menus! People are kind and everything is tasty!!

Wendy L.

Yelp
Chose this place based on great reviews, and the fact that udon is house-made with flour imported from Japan. While the udon tasted fresh and way better than at most Japanese restaurants in Paris, it wasn't as chewy as the one in Japan. The broth is clean, but nothing spectacular. I got the beef udon. I wished the meat was more tender. It was very dry for a stewed meat. The marinated tuna was a special treat. Very high quality tuna and the seasoning was perfect. Service was the typical cold French service. A bit disappointing, as I was used to having top service in Japan. Ambiance was just okay. As the place is quite small, it can be very loud.

Yelp
Great chicken karage, udons were all perfect consistency, broths packed with umami, friendly service. Best udon in Paris.

Yelp
Probably one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants I've been to outside of Japan and Los Angeles. They moved their restaurant from Tokyo, Japan to Paris, France about two years ago. Staff is Japanese and they all speak English, French and Japanese. Very cozy, clean minimalist interior with a coat rack in the front and plenty of tables. All udon is made fresh in house by their master chef. I'm not 100% sure if all their noodles are made in house or if it's only the udon. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just the udon since this is their specialty. We tried their udon in the beef curry and the pork udon, I must say that both udon were delicious but the beef curry pleased my palate more than the pork. The pork was nice and both the curry and pork were both perfectly spicy-ish. Next time I would definitely get a bowl of their thin noodles. It seemed to be almost in a ramen like broth and served at a much hotter temperature. However I didn't see this on their menu, only learned about it by seeing other guests eat this. Expert tips: for lunch time you either show up when they open (11:45am) or call and make a reservation because it was indeed a very full house with every seat taken, this is very popular amongst the local professionals for lunch break. Fantastic for a cold day. Passed by for dinner and it was not as busy as it was for lunch, that might not be the case for the weekend though. You might be wondering why would we ever, as a tourist or visitor, sacrifice an opportunity to have a French meal for a Japanese meal? Simply because it is nice to have a break from decadent French cuisine. Even have a little break from wine with a nice ice cold Japanese beer. Dress stylish, casual, respectful and clean. This is a fine establishment. Expect to spend about €20 to €40 per person for lunch or dinner. Price depends on what you order.

Yelp
Just passing by the area while walking the block and I happen to run into this Michelin star rated restaurant. Japanese udon is their specialty. I decided to go with the plain udon with the tempura on the side. Perfection. The broth was just right and the noodles were so soft yet still slightly chewy enough to be able to tell it was udon. So authentic and savory! I dream of the noodles. As an udon lover, this is by far one of the best places I've ever had. Tempura was crisp and the portion of items battered were bountiful. My friend had one of the broths that were rich and creamy. Very different. Very ramen-like but still equally as wonderful. Very nice place, minimalist, clean and tidy. Food was great. If i ever come back to Paris, I will be back!

Yelp
The best broth with a touch of ginger was perfect pairing with the silken udon and pork. Simple and delicious. Make reservation. Thank you.

Yelp
Fresh, handmade udon noodles in delicious dashi broth. Easily one of the best udons I've ever had. Reservations highly recommended as it can get quite busy. Service was amazing, our waitress was super sweet and accommodating.

Yelp
Really great authentic Udon in Paris. I was craving Japanese Food after a week in Paris and came upon this place. Japanese employees. Solid flavors. Options are not extensive but I was fine with what I could get. I wished you could add other toppings in the Udon, but that's not how they are set up. Agedashi Tofu was delicious. I slurped up the broth it came in. Also got the Wakame Udon... and with enough Togirashi (red pepper flake condiment), I got my fix.

Yelp
We had the best Udon ever. We had ordered the chicken tempura with hot udon soup. The chicken was fried to a perfection and the udon noodle and soup had the best umami flavor. Also ordered a cold sake and it went very well with the food.

Yelp
Had a kakiage udon. Their soup is golden and soft on your palate and natural. Noodle is slightly on the soft side of you like the Sanuki style. But over all, I'm happy give them a full mark as they strive to use all natural, authentic ingredients.

Yelp
For 68 Euros we got 1 curry beef udon, 1 beef tenderloin on rice and a side tempura. It wasn't bad, but it doesn't justify the taste. We were expecting more as a Michelin star restaurant. For 68 Euros there were a lot better places we could have gone to. The rice dish was very dry and the tempura was standard. Not bad, but not phenomenal ‍

Yelp
I've had udon all over the world and this is my favorite. The quality is amazing, the appetizers were heavenly. The staff was very nice and professional. If u want truly authentic Japanese food with an extreme attention to detail and food quality then look no further. A++++

Yelp
Ice cream is cold. That's all I got to say. Food taste lousy. Duck use generic terayaki sauce. Grind up pieces. Super small portions. Way overpriced! Go someplace....

Yelp
After passing this place a ton of times, we decided to google what it actually was... as soon as we saw udon on the menu we knew we had to try it! We popped in fairly late on Tuesday night and ordered lotus root as a starter and some udon. We ordered another appetizer but didn't get it, which was fine because 1) we didn't mention that it hadn't come, 2) we didn't get charged for it anyways, and 3) it was way too much food as it was! They put some chili powder on the lotus root for us and it was so nice to have a little heat! The udon I ordered was sesame seed and pork, which I liked but the broth was a little heavier than I anticipated. We were happy to have found Kisin on our trip, and we might make it back before we leave.

Yelp
What a tremendous treat for our first night in Paris! I called ahead to the restaurant to make sure a table was available for our family of five (including 3 young children). Given Kisin's Michelin status we didn't expect to get a table but it was our lucky night. The place is tiny--and as we all know, fabulous things come in small packages. I didn't realize it until I got there but the chef hand makes all of the fresh udon noodles. Such a big difference from the chewy rubbery kind you generally get at restaurants or purchase at Asian markets. If you have never had fresh noodles--it's a must! We ordered two tempura udons (one as a prix fixe set), and several sides/starters: sardines, braised beef, seaweed cucumber salad--all incredibly scrumptious and unique to Kisan. (I wished the beef had been braised a little longer but the slight chewiness to the dish did not take away from the immense flavors). We enjoyed our food so much we ordered an additional udon bowl to top off the meal and skipped dessert. ;) if you are hankering for a truly authentic, Japanese udon, Kisan is a must.

Yelp
The best udon in Paris, hands down. Great appetizers too. Visited with a Japanese group and they all loved it. Excellent job! Service was great too. They have a nice set which is on the French menu but not the English. 45 euro for 3 appetizers, main plate, udon of choice (yum!), and dessert.

Yelp
If you are an Udon lover, Kisin is for you. They have menus in french, japanese, and english. I ordered the cucumber seaweed salad, Goma Tantan-men (Minced Pork), and my mom had the Nibuta (Roast Pork) and small hot sake. First, I am a broth person. The Goma's broth is thick, dense/savory.. I sensed a hint of peanut flavor. Nibuta had a soy sauce base quality to it and was much lighter. I would say wow, two completely very different styles of broth's and both were absolutely wonderful in flavor. Next the meat. I was expecting to receive ground pork (because that's what would usually come out), but when the dish was served the pork was cubed, into tiny perfectly tender pieces of meat. The Nibuta came out with a nice portion of Chashu that was sliced not too thin or thick and was absolutely perfect in its meat to fat ratio. But most of all, let's talk about the noodles. HOLY. MOLY. The noodles are handmade in-house, and we were blown away. The noodles were the perfect thickness and possessed a very pleasantly chewy consistency.. they seemed to almost melt in your mouth. I would've loved to have tried all the different types of starters. Their tempura looked very delicious and their mochi was quite large in comparison to what I've seen in Japanese restaurants in California. I'm a big Japanese food/ramen fan, and in California/Washington I'd say I haven't seen a Japanese restaurant that concentrated solely on Udon as their specialty. In my experiences, Udon isn't as popular as ramen in the U.S... But hey, I'm a fan. =) If you're looking for a warm comforting authentic Japanese meal, come to Kisin. Great for a winter date night in Paris.
