If you are an Udon lover, Kisin is for you. They have menus in french, japanese, and english. I ordered the cucumber seaweed salad, Goma Tantan-men (Minced Pork), and my mom had the Nibuta (Roast Pork) and small hot sake. First, I am a broth person. The Goma's broth is thick, dense/savory.. I sensed a hint of peanut flavor. Nibuta had a soy sauce base quality to it and was much lighter. I would say wow, two completely very different styles of broth's and both were absolutely wonderful in flavor. Next the meat. I was expecting to receive ground pork (because that's what would usually come out), but when the dish was served the pork was cubed, into tiny perfectly tender pieces of meat. The Nibuta came out with a nice portion of Chashu that was sliced not too thin or thick and was absolutely perfect in its meat to fat ratio. But most of all, let's talk about the noodles. HOLY. MOLY. The noodles are handmade in-house, and we were blown away. The noodles were the perfect thickness and possessed a very pleasantly chewy consistency.. they seemed to almost melt in your mouth. I would've loved to have tried all the different types of starters. Their tempura looked very delicious and their mochi was quite large in comparison to what I've seen in Japanese restaurants in California. I'm a big Japanese food/ramen fan, and in California/Washington I'd say I haven't seen a Japanese restaurant that concentrated solely on Udon as their specialty. In my experiences, Udon isn't as popular as ramen in the U.S... But hey, I'm a fan. =) If you're looking for a warm comforting authentic Japanese meal, come to Kisin. Great for a winter date night in Paris.
