Udon Mugizo

The food was great and delicious, and definitely of value. I love how inviting and clean the waiting area is. It didn't take too long to a table to be available around Sunday 5 pm. The wait was around 10 minutes. The table is also always comfortable. The seat is a bit firm, but not flat. The table isn't so small that you can't order for two and appetizers and not have room to rest your arms. I love the small details in how my server place the dinnerware. It was centered on the table, and the cup logo faces the other person. I really enjoyed the food. I ordered thesalmon ikura seiro set. The sesame sauce for steamed vegetable has a bit of alcohol taste, but it wasnt too thick and has a broth or some kind of savory flavor in it. It pairs really well with the vegetables. Most of the vegetables were steamed only, except for the eggplant and wakame. The wakame has some oil, while the eggplant seemed to the grilled or seared for a bit before steaming. I was also please to see how thin the slices of eggs were in the salmon ikura rice. That was impressive to cook such a thin layer of egg, and then slicing it so fine. The other dishes in the set were equally great but my knowledge of Japanese food is very shallow, and I can only say they were delicious. The crispy onigiri bites were amazing too. The pork went really well with the mentako. As a big eater, I'm surprised to get so much food, and for this price. This reminds me of the Mountain View's Maru Ichi's combo, but with far more dishes. Unfortunately, it is closed now.

SO MUCH FOOD holy moly. the table got a takoyaki to share and I got the unagi seiro set and strawberry soda. the food was delicious. the unagi was so so good, I loved it. the small portion of udon was simple but nice. I could've gone without some of the steamed veggies/tempura but I still appreciated the variety. the soda was tasty but the rainbow flashing light and souvenir pouch really clashed with the entire restaurant vibe, it felt like it belonged in an amusement park. it was bizarre but pretty funny. the servers forgot the drinks we ordered after water but we got them eventually. I'd love to come here again but now that I know the portion sizes, I might get something smaller.

I’m so glad that I found Udon Mugizo because my dinner was excellent. I wanted tsukemen and they recommended the Tempura Zaru Udon, which was close enough and simply delicious. I so enjoy getting to prepare a portion of the meal, and with the Zaru Udon, you get to smash the sesame seeds, and make the cold broth yourself.

FOOD curry udon was pretty good—definitely got some flavor fatigue toward the end so i recommend ordering some type of drink. gyudon was lowkey kind of dry, not enough sauce and meat to rice ratio was off. SERVICE served us super fast (only a 7 minute wait). customer service is average. ATMOSPHERE cozy warm vibe. not particularly hot or cold inside. bathrooms are very nice, has bidets but theres only two stalls. theres a huge CRAZY curb on one of the driveway entrances. plenty of parking.

TLDR: good food; cozy jazzy interior perfect for rainy days; fast service food within 6-7 minutes after ordering; a little pricy expect to spend at least $20 for a good bowl but imo well worth the money Curry Udon: 8.5 (must go if in area and obv in mood) Very rich creamy and delicious. Regular serving is not anything super massive but well worth its price and enough to fill most people up.

There was no wait time when I went around lunchtime on the weekend. The restaurant has sufficient space so there should be no need to worry about long wait times. Our server was attentive and the food came out quick. There’s many good udon options to choose from, you can’t go wrong with any option. Although the food is great, it can start feeling a heavy towards the end of the meal. Overall, it’s a great udon restaurant and you should definitely try.

Delicious, authentic and warm dishes. We dropped in around 820pm on a Saturday night and the staff were very friendly as well to accommodate our orders. ---- Updated after 3months. Paid a second time to visit. Good experience and tasty dishes. Highly recommend.

Food: the broth is REALLY GOOD. I’ve definitely tried better udon noodles somewhere else but here is pretty good still! Recommend their tonkotsu udon for sure; the spiciness added the flavor and makes it different from other places. Service: it was close to their end of business hour but they still took us in. The staff were very attentive and welcoming! Ambiance: calm and enjoyable! No matter your group size, this is a go-to place to have a nice comfort food with udon.

My sister and I came here for the first time after finding it on Apple Maps. Right away, the staff were very efficient and friendly. We appreciated our waitress walking through the menu with us for recommendations and dish clarification. My sister and I are big ramen people so the Tonkotsu Udon was the obvious choice. We LOVED it. Such a big portion for the price and the flavor was so rich. I couldn't even finish it all and I'm a "never leave food behind" kind of girly. Overall, perfect balance of fresh ingredients with the satisfyingly chewy noodles. Highly recommend for a nice, hearty comfort meal!

I love udon that's why im here. Udon is good and chewy. Other than that everything else is just blah. Not coming back

This is one of my favorite udon spots. The exterior contrasts in the interior. The interior is clean and modern with a Japanese-style interior design. We ordered the Curry and Mentai Cream Sauce Udons. The curry is absolutely delicious. It's thick and seasoned well. The udon is the perfect chewy texture and I enjoyed the crunchy bits of tempura. I loved that it came with a small side of rice to help you finish the curry or allow you to change textures. The Mentai Cream is good but there is a little after taste I don't enjoy. If you've had squid ink, it's that fishy bitter aftertaste. Besides that the noodles are great, it tastes like a cheesy alfredo. The udon was the same as the curry! My one recommendation if you're coming with 2+ people that share food, order one creamy and one soupy udon since two creamy is a bit heavy. The service was fast. The server was attentive and came to take our orders as soon as we were ready and the food came out quickly (10 minutes).

Great food, quick friendly service! Very fresh udon. Ample parking. Older building, but interior was modern and nice. My unagi combo was well-rounded and came with a good variety of food - the unagi over rice, steamed veggies, tempura, and mini udon. I was a little disappointed that the bento boxes were only for take out and not applicable for dining in. Wished take out menu and dine in menu were the same. The udon broth was a bit too salty. The unagi was good, and they gave a good amount of pieces. Overall, good experience. My daughter approved! We will be back again!

Not sure how I have not written a review here yet since we have been coming here for years since it has opened! This is our go to spot for everything Japanese curry and I feel like no other curry spot has beaten this place in regard to taste and flavor! We always order the Curry Udon, my husband gets the Katsu one and I get the shrimp tempura which comes with 3 pieces on the side plus veggies which is enough to get me super stuffed I almost always take it home to go! I do ask for tempura sauce on the side because I do eat the tempura like an appetizer since the curry udon already has a ton of meat and flavor, I feel like the shrimp tempura is just the perfect add on and such a good deal for the price point! Service is always great! Someone is always checking in and making sure we have everything we need during our meal!

It was my first time trying Udon Mugizo on a busy Saturday night! I was left satisfied with my meal. Very hefty and hearty portions with a bowl of fresh udon that was packed with tons of flavor. The waitlist appeared to have about 8 parties listed but was seated fairly quickly (within 15 mins). The one downside was I felt pretty rushed. I understand servers are trying to flip tables and/or prepare for closing but I wasn't even halfway done with my meal yet and we were already being presented with a check. We never even got an introduction as to what our server's name was when it was time to order now that I think of it.. however that isn't a dealbreaker for me. I'll definitely be back and will be trying their extensive tempura options! Also should mention that parking is limited so arrive extra early for your dinner plans.

UDON even know how much I love Udon Mugizo! As someone who moved away from the Bay, Udon Mugizo is one of the restaurants that I always have to get when I'm back home. Their udon-centered menu features so many different types of udon - creamy mentaiko, nabeykai, tonkotsu, curry, and more. My favorite is the chicken nabeyaki udon, but honestly, I've tried most of their menu and everything is very well-made! Highly recommend checking them out for some of the BEST, freshly handcrafted udon that I've had in the US and Japan!

About a year later and I still enjoy coming to Udon Mugizo. This time around, I decided to get a set instead of my usual tonkatsu udon. The set was delicious and had plenty of food for a great price. I would def recommend this restaurant, especially when the weather is colder and you need a warm bowl of yummy noodle and soup.

Salmon spinach cream sauce udon - order it!!! I usually like ordering tonkotsu, but decided to try one of their creamy udons and it was soooo good!!! I was scared it was going to be heavy and that I was going to get tired of the taste midway, but that was not the case! I usually have leftovers whenever I eat out, but the serving size (regular) was perfect for me. Service was great - there were 3 different servers who constantly refilled our waters and walked around checking if our table was ok. Parking was super easy too (Tuesday 5pm)

Seriously one of the best places I've had udon! I love it here. The restaurant is on the smaller side so it does get busy quickly, however, I always find it worth the wait. Food comes out pretty quickly and it is DELICIOUS. We've tried several things on the menu and everything is so good!! Ambiance is great. It's cosy and casual. Staff is nice and quick! Will always recommend this restaurant!

Compared to the San Francisco Japantown location and meal, this experience was just ok. It wasn't terrible by any means, but the food wasn't as good and the space feels a bit more sterile. I got the niku udon because I wanted to try a hot udon instead of getting another cold udon dish like I did in Japantown. I didn't like it anywhere near as much as I did the zaru udon; while the portion of beef was really generous, and the beef was nice and tender, the entire dish felt like it was lacking something to really bring it together and it was just a bit boring. The gyoza were just as good, though. I would prefer to go back to the San Francisco location for my next Mugizo experience, but if I came back to this spot, I'd go with another dish entirely or just order the zaru udon again. Nice staff, though they weren't around very much, and we had no issues getting seated because it was kind of empty for a Saturday afternoon. Just an ok meal in an ok spot.

Came here to try a different restaurant as I didn't want to go to my go to place. And this place was ok. It was packed so parking was a bit hard. Inside is a bit dark but decorations were nice making it feel authentic. On to the food. We got the unagi meal and hot udon with beef. Broth was good but I did miss adding crushed ginger to it. The unagi was good but on smaller serving size. But it did come with tempura, small udon and veggies. Service was just ok. We asked for forks and were ignored and then we had to ask again.

I ordered tonkatsu udon via DoorDash & was impressed at their to go options. They give you a choice to receive the udon warm or cold. I opted cold, because my husband was going to eat it a few hours later and everything would be refrigerated before then. The noodles come inside of a paper bowl. There is a plastic tray that sits inside, above the noodles, and holds all of the other toppings. Outside of the bowl, there are reheat instructions. My husband followed them (surprise, surprise...) placed everything into our own bowl, and it was delicious!

A delicious udon experience! The San Jose location has a beautiful interior, full of warm lighting and wood furniture. It felt really inviting, and the store was packed on a weekend. The service was solid. Since there were so many people, we had a slight wait. This seems like a very family-friendly spot. There were lots of toddlers and young kids running around the store, giving the restaurant a fun vibe. Once you're seated, the service feels really efficient. We received our food shortly after ordering. I tried the niku udon, featuring sweet beef, fish cake, a poached egg, and tempura bits. The broth was surprisingly salty, so I couldn't drink too much of it. The udon noodles had a slight chewy texture, which was satisfying. The beef was tender, savory, and a little sweet. I loved the mellow crunch from the tempura bits. In general, my bowl had a variety of textures and flavors. I left feeling full and impressed. I would definitely come back and try other udon bowls as well!

This is my favorite udon spot in San Jose! I've tried so many and nothing beats Udon Mugizo! I came here at least 5 times because I was either craving it or wanted to try a lot of their other menu items. The servers, the chefs, and the front staff are all so friendly and nice when you first walk in. They will always greet you and check up on you when you are eating. This store is also decorated beautifully with modern Japanese designs/decorations, and reminds me a lot of the small ramen/udon shops in Japan. Tonkatsu Udon: 9/10. I tried this for the first time because it was a safe option - I recommend this if you're a first timer here. The soup is so flavorful, the chashu and egg added to the udon so well, and the udon was a perfect mix of chewy and soft. The only complaint I have is that it is super salty, but otherwise you cannot go wrong with their tonkatsu udon! Mentai Cream Sauce Udon: 7/10. If you love anything with cream and cheese, I recommend ordering this! The cheese and cream paired with the udon so well and the nori, green onions, and fried tempura bits made it more flavorful and enjoyable. It was a little thick for my personal liking, but my boyfriend who loves cheese/cream likes this a lot. Tempura Zaru Udon: 8/10. I am a cold udon/noodle lover so I decided to try this dish the third time I was here. I was skeptical at first because really it was a basic dish - just udon, tempura bits, sauce, and vegetable tempura on the side. But I honestly liked this a lot because as basic as it is, the chewiness and softness of the udon dipped in the sauce with tempura bits is what makes it so enjoyable. They even gave A LOT of vegetable tempura on the side, which makes this dish worth it for its price. If you're looking for a lighter meal or a vegetarian option, I recommend ordering this!

I ordered the udon tonkotsu, which came with a perfectly cooked egg. The broth was rich and comforting without being too heavy, and the udon noodles were thick and chewy. The portion size was generous, and I loved how balanced the bowl felt with all the greens mixed in. We also ordered the takoyaki, which came out piping hot. The outside was crisp with a light crunch, while the inside stayed soft and fluffy. Service was fast, very nice setting for a casual or intimate dinner.

I was craving udon in a comforting broth and finally made it to Udon Mugizo, which had been bookmarked on my Yelp for a while. So glad we took the drive. You can join the waitlist from your Yelp app or once you enter the restaurant. The place looks small from the outside, but once you walk in there is plenty of seating. Service is efficient, friendly, and impressively quick. It almost feels like a fast-casual setup in terms of speed, but with the attentiveness and care of a full restaurant. The staff is on top of everything. Even the bathroom stood out. It was clean, and the bidet was a nice touch. You don't see that around here, but it instantly reminded me of Japan. The udon noodles were fresh and perfectly cooked, and the broth really hit the spot. No complaints at all when it comes to the food. I will definitely be back to try more items.

Great first experience! We came in for some hot udon but we ended up getting the Mentai cream udon (their specialty) and it was oddly unique but delicious! It wasn't your typical udon with a soup base but more like a creamy udon cheese pasta. We paired it with some veggie tempura and it was very good. The restaurant is clean, service nice, and chill atmosphere. I would love to come again to try more of the menu! Definitely try!!

Reliable, tasty, and attentive hospitality. Whether you come here for a date or to catch up with your best friends, it's always a great spot to hit up. You have delicious Udon selections like the Tonkatsu, Curry, or Tempura, pleasantly served in varying ceramics. Chicken Karaage and Yaki Onigiri are menu items I would also suggest. I've been to the SF, Mountain View, and SJ locations; all locations have always satisfied my hunger and expectations personally.

One of my top places for udon. Place does get busy but has a yelp waitlist. Friendly staff welcomed us and showed us the popular items. The mentai cream sauce udon is amazing. Super creamy and cheesy. Strong fish roe flavor to give it the umami taste. Udon had the perfect texture. The tonkotsu udon was solid. Comes with shrimp tempura, chashu, and seasoned boil egg which was boiled perfectly. Tasty broth. The corn tempura was also unique. Would recommend getting this if you love corn. Crispy and full of corn flavor. Tempura sauce was subtle but enhanced its flavor. Cozy restaurant. Would definitely come back here! Parking lot and street parking here but does get busy.

I can never go wrong with Udon Mugizo! The food and vibe that this place offers is of such high quality an elegance that it is a great place to bring your family, friends, and co workers! I got the Katsu Donburri Combo and it came with the katsu, bowl of rice, and a delicious bowl of udon. This place is known for their udon, but if you're feeling like getting some rice and meat then this is a great option! The staff are super accommodating and quick as well! I will always love this place and I will always enjoy my time dining at this fine establishment.

Tried something new this time - we usually come for their creamy udon which is hands down one of our fave meals. The katsu donburi was delicious. I will definitely struggle picking between the two next time. No wait around 2PM on a Sunday and the service was quick as usual.

First time going to Udon Mugizo I was surprised at the variety of udon that they have but it makes sense because it's an udon place and besides that they had a really good tempura and some good appetizers. I really enjoyed their presentation and actually the service was very top-notch as compared to other restaurants. They were very attentive. They kept filling the waters and they were looking at what we needed. The chicken was a little less of high-quality, but the udon and the taste felt really authentic to Japanese style. The curry udon had tender beef and thick and flavorful. What I like is the amount of food they give and again the service.

Absolutely loved my udon this time around. Wait wasn't too bad as my friend and I were seated within 15 minutes for a weekend lunch. I would definitely come back and give their cold udon a try. RECS: + Tonkotsu chashu udon ($20.50, 5/5 stars) was soo comforting, accompanied with a hearty tonkotsu broth. You get 7 pieces of chashu in addition to the boiled egg and tempura, what a steal PASS: + Mentai cream sauce udon ($19.25, 3.5/5 stars) gives me mixed feelings. I liked and disliked the creaminess because it became overwhelmingly cheesy at some point. Downside also is no protein in this dish. I would only get this IF shared, and even then I'd rarely crave this

Highly recommend for their service, presentation and flavor. I enjoyed my time here on a family gathering. They killed it in the flavor category everything tasted like it was meant to. The ambience is a chic trendy Japanese spot with hospitality and quick service. Lets get into the food: Mentai udon (5/5) fire, someone ate the leftover without me Katsu curry udon (5/5) the crispy, the curry the ooo udon Katsu donburi (unrated) didnt get to try only my phone did before devoured Nabeyaki udon (4/5) only thing was there was quite a bit of tempura flakes in it making it kind of heavy. Other than that solid flavor. Highly recommend getting this udon!

I've been slowly warming up to udon over the years and Udon Mugizo is one of the reasons why. The place is always cozy and the ambiance is perfect for a rainy day. The udon is on the pricier side but justified with the quality. The corn tempura is an excellent appetizer.

My girlfriend and I went here. We were seated pretty quick. They took our order and our order came out quick as well. They offered water. They came around and refilled my water at least twice (the cups were pretty small). Our food was good. I had the beef donburi and came with a mini udon. It was tasteful and was hot. My girlfriend got another udon. The ambiance is nice. They do have a side room for larger parties but other than that, the party size is limited to 4 per table. They have music in the background. Today is Thursday and they were pretty busy. I'm sure on Friday it would be packed. Overall a great visit and would come again

Really like the ambiance of Udon Mugizo! It was my first time eating here with friends. Came during lunch on a weekday but did not have to wait that long for seating. Service was great, consistently checked in on us and water refills. Sooo many options, I think the lunch set is a good combo; you get a rice bowl and an udon on the side. Portions are huge!!! We got a variety of dishes, I would say anything you order would be a good pick because we had no complaints. Definitely will be coming back!

This location is more spacious than the Mountain View one and feels more intimate and upscale. It is also very clean. Service is attentive, precise, and accommodating throughout the meal. My go to order here is the tonkatsu udon. It comes with three slices of pork loin chashu, shrimp tempura, tempura flakes, a boiled egg, and blanched spinach. The broth is rich, umami, and incredibly comforting. The portion is perfect if you are hungry, though it might feel like a lot if you are not. Either way, it is so good that I always finish it. I love adding a little of the fish powder that comes with the dish. It really amps up the flavor of the soup. My only minor gripe is that I wish the egg were like the one at Ramen Nagi, but that is a small preference and not worth taking off any stars.

Decided to finally come by to this restaurant to try out the food! Parking can be hectic, since there can be a lot of people. I do suggest making reservations if you are going in a large group. There was a situation with my reservation, as my party was unable to all make it on time, and then we were told that they were going to give our table away (which is understandable since half the party was going to be 30 mins late). We then put our name down again and just waited, but there was a miscommunication where they held the original table for us. I am very sorry for that miscommunication and inconvenience. Beside that, the experience and service was great! I got the unagi seiro set , and I was shocked by how much food this set came with. Veggies, tempura, unagi on top of rice, and small bowl of udon! Everything was delicious, but I def could not finish the whole thing by myself. We also got the karage chicken as an appetizer. It honestly wasn't my favorite but it was good! Overall, this is a great restaurant to just try out if you have not yet.

I came here on an evening night with one of my coworker after work. We were craving for udon, and then we had a movie to catch nearby. We both ordered Tonkatsu udon, with corn and mushroom tempura. The broth was super delicious, noodles were cooked perfectly, lots of food, it's very filling. My friend had extra food to bring home. The batter of the fried shrimp was perfect perfection, I would say the corn tempura was average. But everything else was very good. Definitely will be back to try other flavors. Parking is very small, but luckily I was able to find some parking. Staff was very nice and welcoming, and didn't have to wait on an evening night. I think at most five minutes, because it was pretty busy. And the place is pretty quiet and very organized.

This is a very popular place for everything udon. The broth is full of umami goodness, and the noodles are thick and chewy. The Tonkatsu Udon was no exception. The chashu was flavorful and tender, imparting a gentle smokeyness to the broth. A simple, maybe non-essential observation, however, is in regards to the seasoned boiled egg. I realize that they are made ahead of time and refrigerated. But my pet peeve is when I bite into an egg that is still cold on the inside - not here at Udon Mugizo! The egg was actually quite hot all through, without boiling the yoke even more. This is a masterful touch that I rarely encounter in any udon/ramen restaurant. They really pay attention to detail here!

Friendly and helpful staff, quick service, and cozy Japanese dishes. Was seated right away at 6pm on a Friday, but when we left there were a lot of people waiting and no parking left in the lot. The Miso Black Cod appetizer was flavorful, I just wish there was more of it. My husband and I split a large Nabeyaki Udon with an order of Vegetable Tempura to go with it. It was enough food for the two of us! I loved the traditional flavors of the udon, but unfortunately felt the tempura was a bit too oily. Udon Mugizo satisfied my udon cravings! Would love to come back to try a different one.

Dedicated spot for udon noodles in the Bay Area. I absolutely love this place, so it's always a treat whenever we come here. We thought there would be a line on the weekend, but I think we arrived right before the lunch rush. Our server was so sweet and very attentive and took our orders right away. I ordered the Niku Beef Udon and my husband usually does the Tonkatsu Udon or the Katsu Curry Udon, depending how he's feeling. I always wanted to try the Mentai Cream Udon, but I keep defaulting to my usual order. The broth for the beef udon is light but flavorful. It comes with a healthy serving of thinly sliced beef, green onions, tempura bits, and a poached egg. I usually mix the poached egg right away with the soup, so it has a richer taste. We were in and out within 30 minutes. Very quick service and we ate super fast because food was so delicious. :)

this place wass sooo good i wanna come back here again. pictured below is assorted tempura, mentai cream sauce udon, and niku bukkake udon (cold). honestly everything was just so good and the noodles were really chewy as well.

Came here on a Saturday. Lucky we came early because the place gets crowded quickly. Got the Udon deluxe and it was fabulous. It came with pork belly that was delicious. Also got the tempura gyoza which was amazing. The service was fast and helpful, the restaurant was lively and clean. This is an authentic spot for udon. You won't go wrong eating here...

Came here again after a bit, and it's still so special to me!! The broth of the tonkotsu soup is so savory and delicious! The egg they cook perfectly with it a little runny in the yolk. Pro tip, order a pork katsu cutlet on the side and it's a perfect additional protein to dip into your broth!

Okay, since the food is always top notch and service is super fast, I am giving Udon Mugizo 5 stars! They consistently satisfy my cravings for great, flavorful soup. came in as first timers around 4:30pm and there was no wait time bur as we started eating, more people were coming in. we ordered appetizers and entrees at the same time and they also came all out at once. for apetizers we got the gyoza and takoyaki and i would recommend both! we also got the lychee, strawberry and peach sodas and they were pretty good. we got the creamy spinach and salmon, mentai, and tonkotsu udon in two different spice levels. the mentai and creamy spinach both tasted like a cheesy, creamy pasta with udon noodles and tonkotsu tasted like regular tonkotsu, would recommend trying all of them. will consider coming back to try different menu items. service was good, everything went smoothly and they were always there to cater to us

I was thrilled when I found out there was an Udon Mugizo opening in San Jose because I love the SF one soooo much but hate driving out to the city. These bowls warmed my heart and stomach, spreading joy throughout my meal. My favorite is the Niku Udon, just perfect all the way around. Staff were friendly and our waitress, can't recall her name, was hilarious and sweet! The interior is quite big, however, tables are still relatively close to one another so volume can get on the louder side. A side note: the bathrooms have heated toilet seats which initially took me by surprise, but by the end of my trip to the toilet, I was on amazon trying to find one for myself! Small detail but it was great- especially on a cold winter night. Pumped to have Udon Mugizo in San Jose!!!!!!

I came here for lunch for party of 5 and we were seated promptly. I tried the tonkotsu udon with a spice level of spicy. The broth was very flavorful and the noodles were a great texture and not overcooked. Spicy is actually not too spicy and I think I could've went one level higher. The employees were very friendly and checked up on us several times and refilled our waters. Their menu contains a variety of different udons and I'm curious to try the others! PS, they have a bidet in their bathroom!

I love this place! I got the Seiro-Mushi deal, which included udon soup, eel with rice, and tempura. The udon soup was rich and hearty and the tempura was fried to perfection, without being too heavy. The eel, wasn't my favorite, but it was still a nice to have because it provided me with a different option. The service is fast, the servers are nice, and there's lots of space and tables, so you don't have to wait too long to be seated. I highly recommend this place and hope you give it a try!

Udon Mugizo is alwaysss busy and there is always a wait, but the wait doesn't last long because the service is so fast!! A humble restaurant, good music and a welcoming vibe! Perfect for a family dinner or date night! You are always greeted by the friendly staff when you enter and they keep things fun during dinner. We celebrated a birthday dinner, and they were nice enough to refridgerate our cake, bring out birthday glasses for the celebrant and sang at our table! The donburi combos on the menu are such a steal! ~ $20ish for HUGE portion. You get a little of both worlds- rice and soup! The Katsu Donburi was sweet, crispy, and very umami! My favorite part is the scrambled egg with onion served with katsu! If you're in a hurry, add yourself to the waitlist on Yelp!

Came here again because I really wanted to try their Unagi Seiro Set, and it was quite delicious. The portions are ample. The unagi was soft and well-cooked: almost creamy. The udon wasn't too soft with just the right amount of firmness. The tempura was crispy, and the sesame dipping sauce was a wonderful addition. And the steamed vegetables were just right. Service was fast and attentive, and the ambiance is very warm.

OMG I've been here several times already and while I love the Mountain View location - this location is WAY BIGGER with parking right there!! And the service is the BEST - actually both places are good but I will say our water glasses were NEVER empty and folks kept checking in on us and cleared away our dishes while letting us chat - we were there a while and never did we feel the pressure to have to leave right away - it helps being a larger location... Food was delicious and amazing - first time we went kids had their creamy udons that they loved... Hubby had their curry udon, while I went appetizers all the way... got the miso cod appetizer as well as their tempura... hit the spot for me... Actually anything you order there is good and what's nice was the 2nd time I went I was craving a little rice so got the tempura rice combo that came with a side udon - it was PERFECT. It's amazing how much they put into that rice bowl and they didn't fill the brim to rice with a little tempura - it was a lot of tempura (I think there was 3 shrimps at least) and veggies with just the PERFECT amount of rice... and the side udon was JUST the right amount... I will say though my favorite is their beef sukiyaki udon - I usually get that one but glad I tried something different the 2nd time I went... LOVE this place and love their food. Lunch during weekday is best - not too crowded so no wait. I do wish they provided bento boxes when you eat in - I would've liked the miso cod but I guess it'll be when we order to go...

Food: Salmon Spinach Cream Sauce Udon, Katsu Curry Udon, Karaage Overall: A popular udon spot in San Jose! We came around 12pm and was on the waitlist. I know that they're known for their mentai and salmon spinach udon so I went for the salmon spinach to get protein. Their portions are pretty big even for a regular! I think the salmon spinach cream sauce udon was tasty and creamy; reminded me of pasta dish but with udon noodles. The katsu curry udon was also really good, even though I'm not a regular consumer of curry, the set is big! It came with katsu, rice, and the udon had braised beef/short rib; you will come home full.

Heavy! Get ready for nap time because this place will fill you up. We had a few varieties of udon, unagi and curry. The regular udon was just okay and honestly I didn't finish it. Maybe the noodle texture wasn't bouncy/snappy enough and the broth temp was lukewarm while the soup flavor was a bit bland. TBH, I prefer Marukame. But, The creamy udon was a hit and a table fav! The unagi was fantastic. It was sweet, perfectly grilled and super tender. Portion was crazy too, it was stacked to the max on top of a bowl of rice. The tempura was amazing and a definite must have while the curry was heavy but in all the right ways. It was a tad spicy, more sweet and savory. The beef was super tender too. The entire meal was great overall. It took me to lala land and an amazing mid day nap. lol.

Great udon spot! Service was fast. I came on a saturday around 1pm and while it was busy, we were able to get a table for 2 right away.
