Udupi Palace Review - Rogers Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This vegetarian spot’s specialty is dosa, which makes up a significant portion of the long menu. Udupi Palace’s versions of the South Indian dish have well-crisped edges, but taste over-fermented, and are served with a perfectly acceptable (if too salty) sambar. You’ll find plain dosas, ones filled with potatoes and onions or chutney and cheese, and varieties made with lentil flour instead of rice. The idlis are slightly better, and if you go early in the day (say, during lunch by yourself), you’ll likely get them with sambar that’s tangy and doesn’t taste too reduced. The restaurant is quiet, and ideal for a low-key dinner with friends or a weeknight dinner alone, but we suggest visiting for a great vegetarian meal on Devon instead." - Adrian Kane, Veda Kilaru

Wow! All 5 of us loved our food! We ordered the veggie tray appetizer. There was plenty for all of us and so tasty My first bite was a little too spicy and the waiter noticed and kindly brought me a mango shake to hep take out the heat! Then I added rice to the dish and it was fine. We loved our naan. Service was terrific!

I dont think i have met such such nice people! Very family style and warm welcome and seating! Def good food, you can never go wrong with them. Rava dosa is good, mysore masala can be better!

Google
Udupi Palace is a usual for whenever our family wants a mix between North and South Indian food. Great atmosphere when it comes to the decorations and the feel. When it comes to service, the wait time is usually only around 5-10 mins (considering it’s dosa). The waiters and whole staff was nice, friendly, and fast :) Overall, great restaurant to visit for any meal of the day! Would highly recommend this restaurant.

I had expected it to be a lot better. I have previously eaten in the Gerrard St. Toronto location. The customer service, the food, the friendliness of the staff everything was way better in Toronto. Hope that the management takes this feedback and improves everything

Google
This restaurant serves delicious vegetarian Indian dishes in Schaumburg area. Their dosa and sambhar were amazing. The Idali masala from the appetizer section was also delicious. We also ordered Gajar halwa for dessert

Google
Samosas we’re great however the rest of the food sakes tasteless also hate how they serve hot food in styrofoam and give plastic utensils. Also they give water in styrofoam cups!

Google
Ordered 3 idli and 2 plain vada appetizers. Came with a huge container of sambhar and coconut chutney. Food tasted amazing and felt like it was home made! You could tell the idli and vada were made to order since they were so hot and fresh. I wasn't expecting them to be so big either. Will definitely be revisiting in the near future for their lunch buffet.

Yelp
4 stars for Udupi Palace Indian Restaurant. I placed an order via Uber Eats with them. I tried the paneer malai kofta and the palak paneer - both entrees were served with rice. The Malai Kofta was just okay, I've definitely had better - there was too much corn in the kofta balls and the sauce was too sweet. The Palak Paneer however was amazing - it had a nice smoky spicy taste to it. Overall, I'd recommend the restaurant - maybe I will try something else next time.

Yelp
My parents often order carryout here so naturally when we're in town we get it (too any India food approved by Papa Patel - you know the food is going to be good). Ordered lamb biryani, mattar paneer, daal makhani, naan and chicken tikka masala. Everything was delicious as usual. Especially loved that the lamb biryani was spicy. We'll definitely return and order from here again.

Yelp
We went back to this place after about 14 years. If I remember correctly the decor inside back then was much more inviting and vibrant than what I saw today. The ambience was uninviting. Anyways we were seated in a booth, the place was clean. We were then given plastic cutlery inside a transparent plastic. Apparently Covid hit them hard and therefore the precautions. Anyhow... We ordered Udupi's Special Assortment as an appetizer. It contained among other things fried idli!!!! Now who on their right minds fry idi's.... Ugh! It tasted bad. Besides the Sambhar, nothing in the appetizer plate was good. For entree we ordered malai chicken with onion kulcha and tamarind rice. malai chicken was dry and hard. It was also bland. Not good at all. We did not eat this dish and returned it. Tamarind rice was ok. It's usually lemony and tangy, but this one was bland. We had to sprinkle salt to get some semblance of taste. Kulcha was alright. Their Indian coffee is fantastic though. Our server Aryan was awesome. I am giving this place 2 star... 1 additional star for service! :-)

Yelp
At 90F outside, on a weekend, they switched off the AC! Terrible people. No fan also. It was so hot inside. They are serving North Indian food in in the buffet n mini masala dosas! Yuck !! And all that for $21 including tax .

Janu P.

Yelp
The food was okay, the staff was very helpful and considerate although your dosa's weren't like what we expected. There were flies flying around our food and so I had to ask for a fly squatter.

Yelp
This place has the best Sambhar! Yummy! Went there for lunch on a Wednesday and their customer service was impeccable. Abdul uncle was on top of it, asked if I needed more water or more sambhar, and anything. He was very nice ans helpful. Aryaan was a very good server, he listened carefully to our orders and even repeated it back to confirm the order. Very Friendly! We ordered masala tea, Lassi, dosai, idly, vada combo!Loved the food even more because the service was so good... Thank you.

Yelp
We went yesterday for lunch with family before catching flight to go back home. Thought it's dosa place we can't go wrong with picking Udupi. Walking in you can tell Restaurant is not kept well. Boxes and chairs stocked every where and bathrooms just was dirty and disgusting. Order some apps and dosa. Everything was soggy and didn't really taste well. One of us ordered dal and had to send it back because it smelled spoiled. Now 18 hours after most of us have stomach cramps and feeling sick. Really don't like giving bad reviews because could be lots of reason Resturant was off on any given day but when food is this terrible and you feel sick after something needs to be changed. Hopefully this will help them get there act together and improve.

Manjinder S.

Yelp
We had dinner there on our way to Wisconsin. While there Website says they are the "Dosa Hub", their dosa is not the best. I would stay away from Dosa and instead try some North Indian Dishes. After placing order for Dosa, we then ended up ordering Paneer Makhni and that was 100% better than the Dosa that we had ordered earlier. Hopefully the owners change their web site and stop saying that Dosa is their specially. Say that North Indian is your specialty. The people there are nice.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. Have never had a bad meal here and the staff have always been friendly, thoughtful, and attentive. I'm a big fan of the Iddly Manchurian, the Dosas and Uttapam, and the Baghala Baht is a perennial fave and nice change of pace. Dal Makhni is exceptional -- that's a must of course. My family has had many of our favorite meals here, and we've always been treated like family too. Big love here.
google avatar

Yelp
Good is always great no matter what I order. Most definitely try any Paneer from here. The staff is nice don't be afraid to try the food or approach them.

Yelp
Worst Indian food I ever had. Will not recommend or ever go to this place again. Worst taste of south Indian or north Food. Undercooked Kadi - pakora, takda daal was actually mixture of daals, which is not what it is, actually there was no tadka and one kind was undercooked. Mendu wada was probably fried in cold oil, was completely saturated till the center with oil. And many more things to mention- i just hated the food preparation.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for our Anniversary and when we called, were disappointed that the Buffet was not being offered (perhaps due to Covid). However, we went anyway and were very pleasantly surprised. We chose the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry and an order of Samosas. All came beautifully arrayed on our very large plates and the taste was delicious. What a great price, too. Plus, we had enough take-home to have for dinner. Our waiters were very attentive, as well. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Beena J.

Yelp
Was a quick stop for brunch, had Butter Masal dosa, sambar was like water with no real pieces, coconut chutney was meh..idli were soft enough, nothing mind blowing. The falooda was good if anything can be good in a styrofoam cup. All plastic utensils...expected from hole in the wall places, not sit down restaurants. Don't think will visit again,

R B.

Yelp
Great food and more importantly excellent customer service. My wife ordered a dosa but forgot to request to make it crunchy. When we told the waiter, he gladly brought us another one without any hesitation. Although I'm not a big Indian food eater but I would certainly return to this place. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Food was delicious, just a little on the expensive side but they give about a portion and a half worth of food so you'll have leftovers

Yelp
I have lived in the neighborhood behind here for over a year and I would always be like one day I will get this place. It always smells good when I'm walking around the area and today I finally had to try it. The only problem I had was that I hadn't come in sooner. I got the non veg daily special and some vegetable samosas, both were truly out of this world. I normally am pretty good about saving a little food for later, but this time I ate the whole thing because it was just so delicious. I will definitely be popping in here and grabbing samosas now that I know how good they are.

Yelp
I found myself here at the Udupi Palace southern Indian cuisine for a birthday dinner since turning a ripe 36 years old on 9/17/15. I hadn't had Indian cuisine for the longest time and thought, yeah, why not? I had been driving around Schaumburg for gas and literally had stumbled upon here thereafter looking for a place to eat. I happened to choose Indian cuisine as the choice to satisfy the birthday hunger pangs and this place seemed to fit the bill. The restaurant is supported by a large several retail businesses and parking lot, so parking isn't really an issue here. I arrived here around 7pm on a brisk Thursday evening. The parking lot was kind of empty and I walked into the restaurant, which was also kind of empty. Just a couple of tables were occupied. Only when I had left with my take out order, a bunch of people entered the restaurant. The interior of Udupi Palace Indian restaurant was swanky and quite beautiful. Very clean and just aesthetically pleasing. The restaurant was quite large and the staff here were friendly for the most part. The overall experience here at Udupi Palace was rather quick, but it was nice and positive. Since I was ordering take out, not much can be said about service, but they offered me water to drink and the food came out within 15 minutes. Udupi Palace southern Indian cuisine is located at 730 E Schaumburg Road in the heart of Schaumburg village. They accept the major credit cards, so that's always a plus. The prices here can be a little pricey, but you do get what you pay for and it was a decent, but delicious meal for me. It ain't that bad actually if you eat out a lot. I eventually took my order and had it in my hotel room while watching tv, while being obviously immune that it was my birthday night... I ordered the lamb tikka, which was a slice of wonderful. Definitely haven't had Indian curry for a while and that just hit the spot. It was served with Indian rice and I ordered 2 orders of garlic naan. The Lamb tikka was delicious and just satisfies me, but I wished I could have made it just a tad more spicy, just to keep it interesting. The mix with the rice was a complete meal for anyone. The garlic naan was a good compliment on the meal, but at $2.50 per order, it's kind of okay, but not cheap either. The meal was decidedly nice and quiet, considering that I ordered take out. Happy that I came here for some Indian cuisine. I felt that I could have done better with dining in, I guess this time will have to do. Maybe next time will be different, if I return to Schaumburg, IL again. I'd recommend this place, if you were craving Indian food, but it was just a good, positive, but decent experience. Maybe it'll be good next time for sure. Food was good though. Support local! B

Yelp
Idli and vada is a must try. Service is good , waiter even allowed me to change my seat. Ambience can be improved a bit.

Yelp
What a pleasure to visit a restaurant where they know how to treat a guest. My son chose Udupi Palace in Schaumburg to dine for his 23rd birthday. I'm somewhat new to Indian Food and learned that Udupi foods are vegetarian. But, Udupi Palace offers some for those of us who are carnivores. But, even with the interesting and mysterious meat offerings, we all chose vegetarian dinners. The portions are very large, and come on large plates, so we chose to eat family style. We tasted some of everyone's dinner. I had what amounted to a large rice and wheat flower pancake with onions, potatoes and green chilis. This was quite hot and not for the faint of heart. My wife had an Indian crepe stuffed with potatoes. It was enormous - close to a foot long. Both kids had curries - Jon had chick pea and Sarah had their vegetarian curry. The food was really good. Having a food allergy, I always special order and this can cause poor service. This was not the case here. The manager, an older gentleman (and I use the word gentleman properly) helped immensely. He pointed out what I could and could not have, and offered to make some of the other dishes in ways I could eat them. It was truly service with a smile and we will most certainly return. Oh, this was my third visit.
google avatar

Ajay J.

Yelp
Gave us chicken instead of paneer. Go to the Udupi in Chicago, don't give the Schaumburg one your business if you are vegetarian.

Yelp
Really good food and great service. My family and I live this place. Five stars for sure!!!

Sandeep G.

Yelp
Is it possible to give zero star? Visited about 10 days ago. The waiting staff was very friendly and nice. So I tipped them nicely. The food, various kinds of Dosas, was terrible. Soggy and without flavor. The food smelled of over-heated oil. Went there after a bad experience 5 years ago. It seems that nothing has changed to date.Mango lassi was served lukewarm without ice. Requested ice and it was promptly served. The lassi still tasted like crap. This place has lost the plot.

Ubedullah P.

Yelp
They sell falooda only in a size of 12 Oz. On top, the person on the phone from the shop mentioned that the customers are stupid to buy from them and they are costly too. He later said that he was making jokes (with customers). They should be nicer to Americans and learn customer service and ethics values in order to sustain in this tough market.
google avatar

Jason P.

Yelp
Not good. I don't recommend eating here. To start, the service is pretty bad. We went during lunch, but the restaurant was only half full. If it was packed, I might understand. The sign said "please wait to be seated", but we waited for 5 minutes before someone came around. When we were seated, no one came around so we didn't even know who our server was.....and they never asked what we wanted to drink. It was a buffet, so we just went up to get food. The buffet is pretty small, so not much of a selection. Some of the food items didn't seem fresh, or maybe sat for too long. Since we were there between noon and 1, I have to assume the food is from a different day. By the time we were done eating we still never had a server come by, so we really didn't have service at all. We never even got a bill, so we went to the counter to pay. We previously ate at Pryia Indian Restaurant on Wise road in Schaumburg, and that is so much better. I recommend going to Pryia.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
One of the best dosa I have had in a while. There service is perfect. I got paper masala dosa and mom got rava masala dosa. And as per mom this is the best sambhar she had had and she normally says i make better than anyone else can make. 100% gonna come here again since mom even loved the food. The only thing you have to tell them to make everything with butter instead of oil and you will love the taste.
google avatar

Neal A.

Yelp
Amazing dosa! And great service! We've been coming here for years. Recommend the paper masala dosa, iddly. If you like chicken try their chicken curry dish. Sag paneer is a 5/5! And for dessert, try their kulfi... mango or pistachio One more thing: Chole is fantastic :)
google avatar

Kaleend D.

Yelp
Not the best dosa place out there. We tried the paper dosa which is supposed to be crispy but it was part crispy part soft. The sambhar had less salt too. Thr mysore masala was decent but not the best again. Also tried rava onion dosa again salt was less and something was lacking not exactly sure what.
google avatar

Pradyumna T.

Yelp
Stale food . Not great at all. Weird that udupi serves non-veg stuff . Thali is not at all good . Semi-cooked stuff , reheated before serving. Dont come here.Turn around and go to another place. Wish i could give it -ve stars
google avatar

Shradha A.

Yelp
So i'd been here about 4 years ago and liked their lunch buffet. Went back for my birthday 2 years ago and had mixed feelings. Went here 2 nights ago by chance, as I was in the area and craving sambhar, and made some surprising realizations. This place is actually, contrary to all rules, better for NORTH INDIAN food than South Indian! We had really good chana bhatura here, but the dosa and uthappam were both disappointing! They had decent chutney and sambhar, but the Devon branch scores much higher on the south indian food scale! The idli was actually not bad but the raita was really good too!
google avatar

Sarika S.

Yelp
I can't give this place more than 3 starts because the heater was broken in the middle of the winter!! Come on people, it's the middle of winter & you're in the Midwest, this is not acceptable. Even the staff had on huge jackets. Ok, rant over. The food was decent but the servers and manager (maybe owner) was super nice. Started with a fried apps sampler, everything had a great crisp, esp the potato patties. For dinner, I got the rava onion masala dosa. It was different than I had before, but the potato stuffing wasn't great. My cousin got the butter chicken, and it was a bit on the sweet side. I noticed that about a few things. Naan were hot & fluffy. Sambhar was plentiful. Parking was easy since it's a strip mall. And they have a coat hanging area at the enterance.

Michael B.

Yelp
Their dinners are excellent. The buffet is very good to excellent, depending on the dish. The rasam is okay, not my favorite. The buffet always has gulub jamon which is one of my favorite desserts, as well as one or two others. The service is as friendly as you will ever find and seem to truly want each guest to have the best experience. You have to love them for that!
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
This place is near my home; however, I hadn't yet tried it. I ordered delivery and the food arrived hot and tasty! I've only tried their chicken and garlic nan. Both great! I will try this place more and update accordingly!

Yelp
This is probably my favorite South Indian restaurant ever anywhere, except for their Chicago location on Devon Street, which is also my favorite. I came here on a Saturday afternoon, after placing an order for pick up on Yelp EAT24. I placed an order at 3 pm, which is an off time, but it's still cool that it was ready for pick up at 3:30. I ordered a batch of floating idli, which, for starters, is just fun to say. Also, it was delicious!!! It is difficult to describe iddli, so I'll do my best. It's like a spongy rice cushion that you can use to soak up the lentil soup and coconut chutney that comes with it. The only other place I've had it besides Udupi palace is in India, and so, if you want to try this exquisite vegetarian delicacy, well, come here, or...fly to Mysore or Trivanthepuram because that's your other option. Also had a butter masala dosa. The dosa was really fresh and soft with crispy edges, and just, like, perfect. If you don't know already, a Dosa is like a savory Indian crepe stuffed with a spicy potato filling. Add the butter modifier and you get...ummm, can you say "South Indian fast food" before finishing this dish? It's THAT good. The dosa was a decent size, and they didn't skimp on the potato and onion filling. The vegetable samosa were nicely done, deep fried, but not greasy, and the cilantro chutney was holy cow, unbelievably flavorful. The tamarind chutney was a bit on the sweet side for my tastes, but still good. Eggplant baingan bharta, which you can get in North Indian restaurants, was also delicious. Here it's so much better though... Less tomatoe-y, creamier, had a sprinkling of peas added, a nice touch. Finally, we topped it off with a vegetable utthapum, which is like a sweet and savory Indian pancake with vegetables cooked into it. This is a place to go and celebrate, or take out to celebrate at home, or go to for a lunch buffet. Heck, just go. The flavors are unbelievable. Yes, like nothing you've had before, if you haven't been to South India.
google avatar

Shreya P.

Yelp
Good South Indian restaurant which serves large portion of food. We tried Royal Mysore thali which comes with choice of soup, several appetizer and 3-4 vegetables, roti, rice & sweet. Quantity of thali is more than enough for one person. Taste is average so is the ambience of restaurant. Staff is friendly. I would recommend to try this pocket friendly restaurant at least once.

Shilpi H.

Yelp
The dosas, vada, and idlis were great. I wish the food was a little spicier but it was still yummy.
google avatar

Mirza B.

Yelp
It was once a nice restaurant been going here for years but don't know what happened it's like total mismanagement and service is bad. Came here on a weekend and items were stale and had to wait for items to come to the buffet. They should have more desert choices for the buffet I would not recommend this place unless we get new management
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Amazing food and spectacular service. We were celebrating a friend's new job and upcoming relocation for said new job. Udupi Palace let us bring in a cake and gave us clean plates and utensils. After cake, we hangout for over an hour after paying the check and the staff continued to keep our water glasses full and in no way made us feel unwelcome. Highly recommended! One important note: the Schaumburg location does NOT have a liquor license and does not permit BYOB.

Chitra P.

Yelp
Really disappointed with the quality of food! The idli Manchurian was smothered in tomato soup without any veggies. We have had better luck at other places. And the dosas, very very sad! We tried four different kinds and none of them had any flavor or crisp! Paper dosa n rava dosa are supposed to be known for its crisp texture! :/ And sambhar, no flavor w added water. We are very surprised by the food at this location. Other locations are better. One star is for ras malai. Thank you but never coming again.
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
We have been coming to this place for awhile now. The quality of the food in the last few months has definitely gone downhill and the customer service is awful! The last time we were in they served us our food and we waited another 15 minutes for someone to bring us out plates. On multiple occasions I've called to order take out for lunch and someone will pick up, listen and then hang up. Very frustrating. Last straw...I called today to ask if I could please place an order for pick up and the guy on the other end said "no" and hung up again?! I called back and same thing - someone picks up, listens and then hangs up. Nice. We will definitely not be returning customers here any longer.
google avatar

U.K. N.

Yelp
I have been coming to this place on and off the last few years. The quality of the food has gone down. I ordered masala dosa and the masala was very salty. I tried the yogurt Madhu vada, instead of it being soft it was clumpy and stale. Probably not retuning to this place again.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
I've been here and to the location on Devon over a dozen times. My wife is vegetarian and loves this place, so do our vegetarian friends. That said, the lamb korma and achari gosht here are truly excellent unique dishes, and the tandoori chicken is tasty too. The masala dosai is unique and a crowdpleaser with the family. Samosas are huge, moist/flaky and delicious. The lunch buffet is a great option to try a variety of dishes, and is always fresh and well attended to. The space is open and airy, updated touches with booth seating along the sides. Some nice tropical plants decorate the entryway, with a small waiting area with seating. Service is very accommodating and friendly. We've brought in large groups several times and they are super helpful and make sure everyone has everything they need. Waters always full, extra silverware, etc. The owner often comes out to see how everything was. The low reviews here are far off base from my personal experiences here over several years. Take stock in those that can actually articulate their opinions, and not random slams of a local business because it's not exactly up to their impossible standards. "The food is good but expensive" Surprise, you pay more for high quality food. The lunch buffet is offered every day and a super value. Udupi Palace is a unique local gem in Schaumburg, in a sea of corporate chain junk.

Yelp
Do you like being stared at the whole time while you eat? Having every move watched by someone? If so, this is the place for you. The food was once good, but the last couple of times I went, it didn't taste as fresh. One time my water glass had a hole in it (the rim was intact, it was as though someone hit the side with a hammer and it went straight through). The fact that no one noticed this worried me. What else goes unnoticed?... The utensils are usually quite dirty too. The staring is the worst part tho.

Yelp
Several weeks ago, after a grueling day of work, walks, and whining, my bff, husband and I headed out to Udupi for Indian food. When I go out for Indian, I'm usually going to the lunch buffets because they're cheaper than dinner and offer a variety of dishes to choose from, which was especially helpful when I am not as familiar with a cuisine. But we had been to Udupi once before and had gotten a dosa which is a crepe stuffed with a different fillings. I am not sure where else to get this delicious goodness around Schaumburg. We ordered two kinds of dosas as appetizers, one with potatoes and onions, the other was cheese. The cheese dosa was unbelievably good. If there's such a thing as Indian pizza, that would be it. We also ordered individual dishes whose names I'm always going to misspell, so I'm going to be lazy and just give you the description. There was lamb in red cream sauce, potato and vegetables in red cream sauce, and then my dish, which was supposed to be spinach in not-red-cream sauce. I am good with mildly spicy food, which is the description for what the others ordered, but mine was described as spicy. I asked my server if they could make it no spice and he said that he would try and that it might be mild, which was fine. So our food comes out and my dish is spicy. Not mild spicy, super hot spicy. Like twice as spicy as the other dishes, which my BFF and my husband didn't mind, but I just couldn't handle. Part of the way through the meal the server comes back and asks me if it is okay; I tell him I can't handle the spice and he tells me that he's so sorry and would be happy to replace it. He meant it too, but by that time I was full and the others were eating it so I didn't really care. When the bill came, I was surprised to see that he hadn't charged me for my entrée! I thought that was outstanding customer service, especially since I hadn't asked for anything. He honestly just wanted us to have a good experience and did all he could to make sure that it happened. Thanks for making my night, friend. You're the type of person who makes me want to do business with your business.

Yelp
A very weird concept where an Udipi -usually such restaurants are purely vegetarian is serving Chicken curry and another item (don't remember which one). The food is just mediocre and does not deserve more than 2 stars. I would not recommend this place at all.
google avatar

dockster d.

Yelp
I'm only giving it one star based on the service we rec'd when talking about catering an event. I have eaten here before, and the food is good, but even then, the service was sub-par. On this instance, we met with a man named Ray. This took place in early February, 2007, and was for an event in July, 2007. Thus, we took an early road to try to see what our options were. Ray is not a very good man to talk with or do business with. It was very intimidating and a high pressured situation. He repeatedly mentioned that in order for this to be a "deal" we had to commit right then and there. We said that we weren't going to decide for atleast a week as we have to shop around and compare our options. He didn't like any of this. He didn't offer us any tastings (but we did eat there on our own dime anyways). He didn't even offer us water. When the water boy came around to pour water, he sent him back and removed the glasses from our table. After we finished telling him what we wanted, and he gave us his "best" price (which was only 20 dollars less than the original price for a several thousand dollar order), he left the table. He never even said "thanks for coming" or shook our hands...Nothing! My family then got our food. However, at the end of the meal, when we were leaving, he still didn't even bother to come by and say "thanks" or "let me know when you have a chance". He simply was soo upset at the instance that we said that we cannot let him know within one day as he demanded. That kind of service is not the standard if you go to other Indian restaurants for catering. I decided, even if other places are the same price as his place, I will NOT choose Udupi for their catering, simply based on how we were treated when we made initial contact. Funny thing, he said he likes to cater events since it advertises his food to many people at once. Too bad this review in itself will reach far more!

Yelp
Yum, yum, yum! It had been ages since I've had good Indian food, and I wanted to find some during my most recent visit home to the Chicago burbs. Yelp led me to Udupi, and it was good. The palak paneer was lusciously creamy without being overwhelming...the kind of sauce that you sop up with your naan...or lick clean. Our masala dosa was also nicely spiced, though a bit more filling would have been nice given the gigantic size of the crepe. I also expected some of the chutneys that usually go with dosas. Per my recommendation, my brother went to Udupi a few days later with friends and raved about their bhaigan bharta, the deliciously spiced roasted eggplant dish. What's w/ the 4 stars then? Well, their basamati rice was really HARD, which means undercooked or old...That's not cool. And I think that it's a tad overpriced...Okay, so Honorable Mr. R. Venkataraman, former President of India, ate there (as their website states, in case you were wondering) but for reals...we're in the burbs and these are city prices. Complaints aside, I'll be back.

Yelp
I eat at Udipi restaurants all over the country and have never been disappointed. This one was certainly no exception. I had the Royal Maysore Thali so I was able to try a dozen or so of their menu items. It was unusual in that they had meat dishes on the last page of their menu and Udipi is typically vegetarian. The service is excellent. They might consider some Indian music. This is a must visit if you like this cuisine.

Yelp
After my favorite Indian restaurant sadly went out of business I've been hauling all over Schaumburg and Hoffman to try and find a replacement. Of the 7 restaurants I've found so far, Udupi hands down has the best food. Food is well prepared, spiciness can be adjusted properly, great quality, and honestly quite exceptional naan. Table service seems about average, which is on par with pretty much every other Indian restaurant in the area. A bit aloof but certainly accommodating if you need something. My only complaint is that the atmosphere is really quite bad. Old style diner look, with fake palm trees and a badly oversized waiting area. That aside though, if you go out to eat just for the food, this one definitely fits the bill there.

Yelp
Sixth restaurant! I just moved to the area and I have been looking for my go to Indian restaurant. I tried 5 other restaurants before Udupi and was about to give up. I am so happy I didn't give up on my search. The chicken tikka masala was delicious. I'll be ordering again.
