Old Bae: Where to Pick In-Season Blue Crabs Around D.C. - Eater DC

"Capitol Hill beer-and-burger bars the Ugly Mug and Valor Brewpub just morphed into one place to pick Maryland blue crabs at the end of each week. Along with crabs by the dozen (medium, large, and jumbo), a Maryland-style seafood boil for two ($43) features crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, corn, cole slaw, and potatoes. A new all-you-can-eat option every Thursday (market price/typically $60-$80) comes with slaw and fries from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Normal crab-picking hours resume at noon on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, running through the duration of blue crab season. Reserve a seat (indoor/outdoor service available) on Resy. New summer elixirs from the brewery crew include a “Beers” Knees and rum punch." - Tierney Plumb

This place runs a ghost kitchen on UberEats. If you are enticed by the advertisement images for DirtyBurger, RUN. Management, you should honestly be held legally responsible for false advertisement because that is 100% what this is. The image I ordered vs what I got is only stuff you see in memes. Yall are shameful for that. $30 for THIS? Cut me a break. I will be contacting Uber to let them know what a scam this is.

Had an awesome time at The Ugly Mug! The vibe was already great, but Thursday night with DJ RJ took it to another level. The music was absolute fire—perfect mix of hits and deep cuts that kept the energy high all night. Great drinks, fun crowd, and unbeatable atmosphere. Definitely making this a regular spot!

Randy was amazing bartender/waiter. He as well as the other waiters were very attentive and constantly checked on us and did I mention that Randy made me Ana amazing adult drink 😊. First impressions goes a long way & my first time will bring me back again and again!

Great live entertainment and awesome food! (Really awesome food!) They boast a fully raised stage with lighting and sound, booths, tables, and 2 levels, a bar and seating on each, plus outdoor seating with clear dividers, heating, and cover. We saw an excellent comedy set hosted by K Bell. I had a Reuben and my friend had the burger and fries. Great portions, perfect and fresh. The show was very well produced and included six 10 minute comedy acts. The bar was attentive and fully stocked. Great location-- we even spotted a senator down the street leaving a dinner party!

To the Gm Gainer I don’t appreciate the service tonight. I came in after work for a steak Salad and a margarita the lady up stairs told me that they don’t Serve salads on the upper level and recommended. I go downstairs to order the salad and would have the drink ready I ordered.i went to order on Level one witch I explains I’m just coming for a steak salad and margarita I did ask with flavors like Passionfruit or pineapple or regular she mentioned that she only had regular witch was my choice due options she refused to get me a drink after I ordered my Salad at valor and she began to Bring other guests into the dispute I then asked for a refund I’m seeking acting from management on the Professionalism and treat.

I imagine if the Ugly Mug is as great as it was back in 2008 when I first went!! I was there every Sunday with my boys watching football. It was the best spot! Great food, excellent service, perfect atmosphere! Glad to see they are still around!

So I was craving a cheesesteak and the wife said to look up who has the best. I came across a post on instagram of the brisket cheesesteak from the Ugly Mug. It looked good and I said let's go. We made a 40 minute drive in rush hour traffic and arrived. I paid for parking and we went in to the Valor Pub. The waitress on duty put her backpack down and told us to sit anywhere. We sat down and downloaded the menu and started to put in our order. The waitress came back with water and we were about to put in the order when she told us that the waitress who was supposed to be on duty was an hour late and that she had to leave. We understood and she told us that we could go upstairs and the bartender would be able to take care of us because it's all the same restaurant. So upstairs we went and the bartender greeted us and we sat at the table. He came over and told us we were in happy hour so beers and everything on tap was half off. I ordered a cider and there was confusion because he said that cider wasn't on the menu even though I could see the tap clearly labeled cider. He rectified by leaving us and checking the tap that was labeled cider. We started our order with the pretzel. He left and we looked over the menu. He came back a couple of minutes later and said they were out of pretzels. (It's Monday so if the item is popular either somebody fumbled the order or they don't order enough) So I order the chicken wings and I place the order for the Brisket Cheese steak. My wife orders the pizza and we wait. All the food shows up and I was disappointed. I showed our waiter what I wanted from instagram. He assured me that it was the sandwich I ordered but what I got was a far cry from it. The brisket was old, microwaved and just terrible. The wings were good and my wife said the pizza was ok. I was pissed and my wife was too because the total meal was $60 and we left hungry. This restaurant is in an upscale hip spot but they pride themselves too much on karaoke and alcohol. Food seems like a passing fancy. I would have done better going to a carryout spot. Also, there was no soap in the men's room and no paper towels.

Yelp
I was going to a movie at the Miracle theatre and decided to grab a burger and a brew. The Ugly Mug sounds interesting. I'm in about 5:30 PM. I grab a seat at the bar and decide on a stein of Valor lager ( I think it was a lager). It's a real stein made of glass and full of tasty beer. Definitely something to try on a hot day in DC. The A/C is definitely appreciated as it was a hot day and not cooling down any time soon. I decide on another beer. This time I go with the Red Tail Angels Amber Lager. Good and cold. The menu has a few burgers on it..I decide on the basic Becky smash without mustard. Service from Sophia is terrific. Need something? She's right there to help. In a bit of time the burger and french fries arrives. The burger is pretty good, bread was a bit stale. Fries are crispy and hot. I finish the food and have the last of the beer. Definitely will be repeating. Small place, has a cozy feel. Fresh brewed beers are on tap.

Yelp
This is a good venue for watching sports. Plus right below them is Valor Brewing. Parking is street parking but this is close to the Eastern Market Metro station. The Valor beer is tasty. I hm having the Valor air boss. I will come back...this is where my Manchester City fan club meets

Yelp
*Please read fully* The portions given are pretty lack luster. I didn't expect a full box of loaded fries but I got a small order of fries. I opened my burger before taking a bite and I was shocked to believe I was only given what looked like a burger cut in half. All these burgers have noticeable chunks missing from them...I ordered a triple cheeseburger and these Pattie's are extremely small. I'm met with 2in x 2in square patty that rivals more of a flat meatball than the big juicy patties I ordered. The lettuce is ballon ribbon thin and so scarce that it's not even worth ordering with your food. Truly its more like a garnish than topping. The grilled onions aren't nearly cooked long enough to carmelize and don't have enough noticeable flavor to them. These French fries are sweet and it just throws off the whole idea of loading them. You want cheesy, salty, well made fries. Not sweet, cheesy fries? I'm really sitting here like what is this. These fries are bland ya'll. I'm not a petty guy and I rarely leave reviews unless it feels justified. My burger was upside down and I'm not sure if that's saying the cook was just that busy or unbothered by how I'd received my order. I order this triple burger and loaded fries through Uber Eats and so this order costs almost 50.00 USD all things considered. I haven't even taken a bite yet due to how thrown off I was about the food I was excited to try out. I even considered buying two sets of fries to share with a love one, which definitely would've put my order above 50.00 USD. Good thing I didn't waste my money or get too excited about the experience. I'm disappointed and I gotta keep it real. Bad Portions. I don't see how you cook up a burger this small and give it the "ok" to be served to a paying customer, especially a online order. This is a Patty was a snack for the cooks, not a meal for a customer. I just took two bites of it and its gone. Missed potential. Your customers shouldn't have to filled their burgers with replacement ingredients because of a lack of quality control. I don't know if this was a one off thing but looking at past reviews I'm gonna have to say otherwise. This place could be ran by good people with too much on their hands, who knows? What really matters is customer satisfaction and today, I got a bowl of disappointment. I'm not gonna lie to ya'll; I feel sick tryna eat this. I ate the little square patty and 2/3 of the "second" one. I spit the rest out. I'm not here to ruin livelihoods but maan. The fries are actually sweetened to a degree. Cheese shouldn't be sweet and these fries are soaked in it. The burger meat actually had a slight taste/wiff of decay. it might not be decay but theres something about these burger patties that ain't right. Hell the whole restaurant is on the chopping block. This actually ruined my appetite and now I'm thinking I should lay down because my stomach hurts. Not worth the wait, the money, the calories or the excitement. spend your hard earned money somewhere else. (SMH) Damn, I shouldn't just got chipotle.

Yelp
This is a standard bar which is not a dig by any means. My wife and I went to watch the finals for district karaoke. They have a small stage upstairs and pretty intimate "venue". There os a full bar with happy hour specials and daily specials. Which are decent because a lot of other bars prices are a bit high for my liking. We got the loaded tots. It's standard bar food, so nacho cheese out of a pump vs real shredded cheese. Still tasted ok. We planned to get a pizza. The but the tots portion was large enough for 2 people. Beer selection was ample. They appeared to be short staffed. But if you were nice to the server she was nice back. The wait times were long. But we were not in a hurry. There are sports betting machines there. One patron came in just to use them. I like dive bars. And I like this place.

Yelp
Placed order on app. Wings never delivered. Absolutely no attempt to understand situation. Was told to file complaint with bank. Service has never been a high priority within this establishment. Do not use App!!!

Yelp
Save your money! Ordered through Uber Eats, and what I got was far from what I ordered. They displayed a delectable looking waffle in the picture, but what I received was a frozen waffle from Harris Teeter. Disappointing, to say the least. The letdown continued with my sausage egg and cheese - no cheese included. Picture being excited about a meal, only to receive this. Got a refund, won't be returning.

Yelp
The Ugly Mug gets points for the service, and having a loyal clientele. It could be a great spot. But there is something UP with their beer. It doesn't just taste skunked, and I think that would be impossible considering how many taps they have and how many times I've tried their drafts. It tastes more like they've never cleaned their lines. I mean it is HORRID. i have never tasted anything like it. They're out of almost all their bottled beer most of the time because it is that bad. The food is fine, the vibe is good, and it's a great place to watch sports. But the beer makes the place irredeemable and is SUCH an easy fix. I'm not even posting this to dunk on them, I'm posting to publicly beg them to fix it.

Yelp
I came here yesterday for karaoke/game night. They have all day happy hour on Wednesdays, so that's good. There are a lot of options on the happy hour menu for drinks and food. The food is pretty bad though. It's bar food, but the bottom-mest of bottom bar food. I ordered the "truffle" fries and a Caesar salad. I put truffle in quotes because there was nothing truffle about it and they used powdered Parmesan cheese on them. Despite this, the fries were actually tasty. Far better than my salad. The main reason I ordered the Caesar salad is because I figured that was something that would be hard to mess up. The first red flag was I saw some cheddar cheese sprinkled on the salad. Lol. I love all types of cheese, but this was unexpected. The salad wouldn't have been terrible if they didn't drown it in dressing. I picked at it, looking for pieces that didn't have so much dressing. In the end I mainly ended up eating the croutons. As for drinks, I kept it simple with a tequila-soda from the happy hour menu. I had two and they were solid. The first one was really strong, which I like. My last critique is that it took a while for us to get our drinks. The food ended up coming out before the drinks. They use a website where you can place your order and conveniently split the bill. I'm not sure if the bartender was backed up, even though it wasn't busy when we first got there. The vibes were cool. The music was very loud, so don't expect to have a lot of conversation. All in all, I don't think that I would come back here.

Yelp
Fun bar for Vols games if you only get drinks. The food is pathetic though. The pretzel sticks aren't edible and we suspected that the "buffalo chicken dip" actually had hot dogs in it
google avatar

Yelp
The delivery was late. They say they use uber eats, but they use their own delivery with a horrible tracking system. Food is cold. I ordered chicken and waffles. The waffle was burnt. I have a picture, but I can't add it in this review. They need to do better. The rating was a 4.0 on Uber Eats...so maybe I need to do better.

Yelp
Grateful to Ugly Mug, Gaynor, for allowing me to host the Patriots vs Eagles game on Sunday, November 17th! If you want a basic sports bar to watch the game stop in! I've been to Ugly Mug a few times over the last few years. Usually, I'm there to watch a game or enjoy happy hour at the bar on the top. My only complaint is that it appears the service and taste of food has gone down. For one, I used to love ordering the buffalo and old bay. The wings have gone down hill The wings were so bland and the sauce (mambo and the old bay) didn't really add anything to it. The bar knew it would be a large group but there were only 2 servers working. There was no heat in our section and the tv wasn't working in another part of the bar. I hope some changes are made to make this is great sports bar again.

Yelp
We were at the Capitol and walked the 2 miles to this place, only to find out that they were closing at 3 for some event. We still could have had lunch but for some reason, they only had brunch. When asked to see the menu, we were told to scan the barcode on the table. When I did so, it was asking for a username and password. Just to consult a menu? Exasperated, we left the place. Too bad because it looked like a place that I would really have enjoyed.

Yelp
I stumbled on this place by accident, I basically transferred from Valor Brewpub because I was looking for food, they're basically connected. I went around midnight so their kitchen was closed (just a heads up) Anyways this was the MOST AMAZINg experience I've ever had -I'm in an Uber drunk so forgive my misspellings Anyways the STAFF AMAZING THE PATRONS AMAZING IT WAS KARAOKE NIGHT, I was starving and needing to pee but I did not leave my seat at the bar. The bartender amazing, the karaoke amazing. Idk how to go about what a great experience this was I think the MC said karaoke is every tuesday and every 3rd and/or 4th Friday of the month Anyways if you're looking to explore the city and go out to the bar come here, there's no reason they should have such a low score. I have never felt So welcomed and smiled so hard :) thank you everyone for tonight what a wonderful time

Yelp
Sad to say the brunch menu is now gone and the menu is back to basic bar food . I stopped in on Sunday excited for some shrimp and grits...but was informed the menu was reverted back a few weeks prior. The staff who were there were still very attentive and awesome and the fries I reluctantly ordered were delicious.

Yelp
The Ugly Mug is operating at least two ghost businesses out of this location using food delivery apps. The food is beyond awful.

Yelp
This place has got to be one of the most diviest of dive bars that I have ever stepped foot in. The service by our one bartender Matt during happy hour was sparse, the bar was sticky along with the menu which should've been a telltale sign of what was to follow. Both the Carryout Burger and Tropic Thunder were both mediocre and quite bland. The boneless wings are coated with a supposed mambo, a signature sauce of DC was blah, the fries that accompanied both meals were below room temperature and served without condiments. While he looked for the salt n pepper as if there was only 1 set in the entire bar, we had to also ask then wait on plastic ramekins. While I'm on disposable cutlery, while I know everyone is going green they don't offer straws at all, not even have the paper ones. When I and a few others asked we were simply told that the owner doesn't buy them. The worst part about it is that the entire inside of the restaurant is pretty updated and cute. But the food and service is pretty crappy. Sad thing is I really wanted to like this place too but it's a no for me.

Yelp
Listen, let me save you some money. This food was ABSOLUTELY disgusting! I browsed through Uber Eats for an hour before deciding on this restaurant. I ordered the smoked chicken and gouda pizza for myself and margherita pizza for my son. I knew he wasn't going to like it the moment I opened the box, and I was right. He said it was nasty! I took those big disgusting tomatoes off and added cheese and pizza sauce that I already had to it then put it in the oven. I'm so disappointed. I'm never ordering from this establishment again. Oh, and they didn't tape the pizza box shut. That's just common sense! I don't want someone tampering with my food!

Yelp
Got to the venue a bit early for a Pride Show, decided to have Pizza and an excellent beer. Staff was welcoming and in good spirits

Yelp
This bar restaurant is ok. Sort of drab on the inside. Never ate here but had drinks. Nothing exciting

Yelp
Horrible customer service. My order was placed by bartender and it was incorrect. Once I received the new order, it was the lady next to me. I explained to him again this order was incorrect. His attitude and demeanor was horrible. When I received the correct order he kinda is tossed my food to me. Never again will I eat at your establishment. Update as if 1:11pm - Based on the owner response below, I see why the staff conducts themself. Never will I step foot back in that places

Yelp
Came here with a large group of 30+. When you first walk-in this place screams the makings of a great sports bar experience. We were quickly disappointed with the tasteless wings and the bad service. We had one waiter, which isn't enough for a party that size. I eventually got up and went to the bar to place my order and I was never told the bottle of wine I wanted wasn't available. After waiting 20 minutes, I inquired and was told it wasn't available. I really wanted to love this place because it can accommodate large groups, is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and is in a great location. Please improve the service and if you're serving old bay wings, put old bay in the wings. I'll wait a couple of months and try this place again. SN: they have a retractable roof, which is probably really cool in the summertime.

Yelp
if you're going to play your music loud enough to keep the entirety of cap hill awake, at least play good music.

Yelp
This is the third, or fourth, I lose track, summer in a row that The Ugly Mug has had air conditioning issues so bad that it has had to close. I can't blame this on management, it is poor maintenance by the owners. The restaurant underneath this establishment, Valor, never has such issues. What is for certain, summer is going to come and it is going to be hot. That is foreseeable. Aside from that the restaurant is a pleasurable experience. This signals to me that the owners really don't care about its customers. 1 year, ok, air conditioning can be a significant capital expense, 2 concurrent years and beyond is just trifling. I mean that in the most respectful way I can put it. Do better. Treat The Ugly Mug like you do Valor. You own them both.

Yelp
The servers cannot here because the DJ pplays the music Soo loud. I know that is happy hour but they act that the don't want your money. DAMN. Dirty glass and they give you their ass to kissssss

Yelp
5 for service, 3 for beer selection, 1 for dirty menus. Stopped in for happy hour on a Tuesday which was basically $1 off drinks? 2nd floor bar with a (dirty) menu of interesting choices but with dirty (did I that already?) menus, I was reluctant to order. My pescatarian daughter has eaten and imbibed here often drawn by the laid back atmosphere, excellent service and variety of foods offered for her diet. She is not bothered by the dirty......never mind. Our bartender/server was very attentive and personable. The back of the restaurant is under a giant greenhouse-like glass roof. Liked that seating option. Imagine that's really awesome on a starry night. For drinks I would return; for food, check the other reviews

Yelp
My friend and I came here on Sunday during brunch. The restaurant was not crowded; we decided to sit at the bar as my friend new the bartender. The bartender was very nice and social. I ordered the eggs Chesapeake. I asked if it came with home fries or tater tots and the bartender said he wasn't sure and proceeded to type in our orders. His response SHOULD have been, let me find out PRIOR to inputting my order. Well, I did find out that the eggs Chesapeake did not come with anything additional and I could not bring myself to pay 5 bucks for a side of home fries or tater tots (am I cheap or is 5 bucks for a side of tater tots steep?!). The standard eggs Chesapeake is an English muffin, crab cake, poached egg and hollandaise. My order did not have an English muffin and the poached egg was overcooked and not runny. The hollandaise was also not smooth; the consistency was a bit odd. However, the flavor of my crab cake was pretty good. I plan to eat a snack soon as my brunch was small and needed a carb to be more substantial. I would try this place again (wouldn't be one of my first options) as I FEEL like they have it in them to do better.

Yelp
hello all my name is dion, and i am writing a review about the ugly mug after trying to be a patron since they lifted the restrictions of covid. first off the food is excellent!! the pizza is great, and the tater tots are second to none, i will say that you will get fed and fed well, but let me tell you about the rest of the place. the downstairs is a much better bar than the up stairs. the drinks are good and the price is reasonable. depending on who you get will be depend on what your charged upstairs, and if they dont know you...the drinks are weak upstairs. but now the establishment. we spend money as well and i mean a lot of money on food and or drinks and that is where i have a problem with the business. sometimes certain people will come out outside the business and will have a bluetooh saying its a distraction because it is not. the speaker playing while partaking the food and drinks that the business offers... i have been told that is a problem. now my issue is if it is a problem, why dont you have your servers come and offer their services to the people outside and i mean allllllllll the people outside, instead of picking and choosing who you serve!!!!. now i can respect if you say the music is a distraction, but what i cant and wont except is your business picking and choosing who can do and what they want to do!!!!!. trust me and believe i have sent the word out to the people that not only support ,but substain your business, and from here on out i promise your business will falter unless you realize that we do not just use your establishment as a meeting place to just not meet and greet, but as a business that we spend money and i mean a lot of it to not only maintain you, but to refer you as a place to come to have food , serving everyone as equal.... this is the first of many post yet to come against you and trust and belive , i have a voice and it will be heard. trust me people i am not a violent person, nor haave i been there. the foord is excellent and most times the cleintel is great, but the bartenders upstairs and how they pick and choose who they serve outside is terrible. unless your white!!!!! there i said it

Yelp
1. Ambiance: I found my new favorite urban, hip, and upbeat bar. Upon entering through the door, you will walk up the stairs and you will find a large space that elongates with booths, tables, and chairs. The bar is right in the middle, which makes it convenient for the people in the back and the front to be able to access it. I really like the mural in the front to the right of the bar of the urban street and the athletes within it. When you walk towards more in the back, it becomes really chic with skylight, classy booths, and high top chairs and tables. At night, it becomes more romantic with the dim environment and soft light. Of course, there are big screens throughout the entire place so have no fear. 2. Food: I ordered the wings and I must say that it was fantastic for bar food. It was really crispy and the wings were a great size. I highly recommend the Buffalo wings as it wasn't too saucy, and just had enough to get the taste. Our table had the beer tower as well, which is such an awesome idea. We started out with Bluemoon and then switched to Miller Lite. The entire table thought their food was decent for bar food as well. 3. Service: I forgot to bring my receipt home so I am not sure of her name; however, I do recall that she was fantastic. She helped our table, which had six people in the back and we were there for the WSU vs. OSU watch party. She had on a red shirt with white outlines at the colar. She was great and did an amazing job assisting our group. 4. Costs: I had ordered 8 wings with a cost of $10. I thought the wings were worth the cost. They're delicious and a good size so I have no complaints. I'm uncertain of the costs of the beer tower as the bill was grabbed by someone else. 5. Overall Experience: I had a great time and it was such a fun experience. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu and have a different beer tower. Side Notes: I thought it was freezing in the back and I know that part of the reason was because of the glass windows on the side and the ceiling. I thought space heaters would be a good idea to keep the back warm. Also, the restroom is very difficult to discern so it would be great to have a conspicous sign to show the location of the restroom.

Yelp
I wish I could leave a review on the drinks and food but I can't. I'll tell you why. I noticed this place was open on a Saturday night and figured my girlfriend and I could grab some wings and a drink before heading back to my place. We walked up the stairs to the restaurant/bar area. It was loud inside. Not unusual but just a heads up for you guys. The place was full of drunk frat boys. Since I've never been here I was unsure if I had to be seated by a host or not. So I stood by the stairs and waited to be greeted. Two servers walked past us several times pretending not to notice us. So we assumed we'd have to seat ourselves and we did. My girlfriend and I sat in the back, away from the frat boys. It was much quieter there. We sat at a table for 15 minutes and no one came to take our order. So now I'm wondering maybe we shouldn't have seated ourselves. Finally, I get up and walk to the bar. The bartender is talking to two patrons. I tried to get his attention but he's also pretending not to see me. Then one of the servers walks past again and still nothing. At this point I figured since they don't want my business I'll go elsewhere. And that's what I did.

Yelp
Whew....where do I begin? This place was absolutely terrible. Let me try to break it down my mandated 1 star that really means 0 stars. The Bar: My partner attempted to get a drink from the bar and the bartender was such a "donkey" (insert the other word). She attempted to make her drink request and his reply was "ugh, no" and he moved on to the next person and then finally came back to get her order. (I really don't want to assume it was because we were Black but I wouldn't be surprised and I hate to even bring race into this.) The drinks were terrible. The vodka and cran basically tasted like an Crystal Light packet and rubbing alcohol. (And note I'm a lush and this was terrible) [Keep reading for more] The "Comedy" Show: Listen...let me first start by saying there were SOME good comedians at this show. You can tell that some of them were still new and getting to know their craft and worked really hard on their delivery. The comedian I had a problem with was the promoter/event coordinator/etc. "Starr" (??) We first met him walking in when he basically tried to double check us to see if we were in the right spot for the comedy show. He did this by walking up on us, literally no space in between and saying "whoa whoa." We let him know POLITELY that one of the other guys checked our tickets. I guess he didn't like this and then proceeded to make a scene of us having our tickets checked already. From here we should've known what to expect from the show. The next thing to happen was him shouting on the mic to the management to lower the lights and correct the sound on the TVs so that the show could start. After this the comedians came on to do their set so we thought we were completely done with his antics....wrong. This guy the promoter has a set too. He was beyond tipsy and high on stage that it was unbearable. He kept repeating that he was the best in the DMV and even called out what I'm guessing are local comedians (??) by government name and said he was better than them. This wasn't even the worse of it. What pushed this to be even more unbearable was that he kept doing the same jokes/set over and OVER again...it had to be over 3x the same jokes. He did both Obama and Jay-Z voiceovers but the exact same topic/joke over and over and over again. The host basically had to do damage control after he leaves the stage... We ended up leaving early because we could not take the environment any longer, especially the increasing antics of the promoter. Overall: I promise I will NEVER be back to this place and I'm probably sure they don't care about losing customers so I guess it works out. ‍

Yelp
My first visit but probably won't be the last. My friends and I had a wonderful time here on karaoke night. Although we did not partake in any of the menu items this visit, I feel comfortable giving four stars as a preliminary rating based on how much fun we had. One of the most impressive aspects of our evening at The Ugly Mug is the app they use for karaoke. The ease of signing up to participate and a searchable catalog at your fingertips was enough to earn my favor. Next time we'll come prepared to wine and dine so I can offer my opinion on the food and beverage options.

Yelp
My fiancé and I live in the neighborhood so we frequent The Ugly Mug for drinks and late night bites. They've had a good beer selection, service and food every time we've visited. We most recently came for brunch to watch the World Cup final. While there a lot of great restaurants in the area, we chose The Ugly Mug first and foremost because of the number of TVs they have as well as their food & drink offerings. We got there around 10:45am and it was already starting to fill up. Since we knew we'd be there for a while, we opted for the $20 mimosa bottomless (2 hour limit). They did not skimp on the champagne in these and they were quick to replenish your glass! For food, my fiancé ordered the Hangover Burger and I chose the Mug Sammy. Both came with a choice of fries or tater tots (same price), we opted for the tots which were perfectly crispy. Although we already loved it here, we learned how the Ugly Mug is the perfect spot for catching a game after our recent visit. We definitely plan to come here in the fall to watch football games. The food is better than your average bar food and the service is definitely better than most! We were so impressed with how well the team managed the World Cup crowd!

Yelp
I'm not sure why this place has such low reviews when it's really a cool place! We went here right before (and during because we're late people) the Nationals Game and I definitely recommend coming here beforehand. They have someone driving you to the game from here and all you have to do is tip the guy! It's about a 7-10 minute drive in a golf cart. The service from the bartender was great overall! Of course we began with the bottomless mimosas for only $16. It was definitely a lot of champagne to orange juice ratio - can't really complain there! We all got the pastrami hash and I was honestly a little disappointed with the portion size. They also forgot to put eggs on it - oops. Not a huge deal but they were quick to get the eggs out to us. It is exactly what it sounds like. We stayed there for about 2 hours before realizing we might actually want to go to the game. It was definitely a good time here and I'll be back!

Yelp
Horrible! I used to frequent this restaurant years ago and it was such a fun spot with great sliders. Now, it's simply horrible. Was there today. Walked past and saw people eating a crab broil so we had to stop and try it. We were seated at a dirty table. When no one came to check on us, I had to go inside to ask for the table to be cleaned. I was told "we cleaned the tables earlier and no one has been there since." What kind of crazy response is that?! Service was awful, despite the servers being very friendly. They rarely came to check on us. Took forever to Put in our order. They never Brought half of my meal yet charged us FULLY. When called our for it they only took off $2. When I told the waiter that they never brought out any of my sides, his response was "I'm not the chef, I have nothing to do with that." The server didn't even give us a check. After having to go inside and run them down to pay, we were told "it will be $124." We've never been to any restaurant where we were not given a check upfront. The crabs were not good. Cooked with zero seasoning. However, the wings were good. This place has gone way downhill. Passerbys were looking at my plate and I advised them to not waste their money. So many businesses are struggling post Covid and we are really trying our hardest to support small businesses but they are not even trying! We were sooo mad when we left about the way we were treated and them charging us for food we never got.

Yelp
I don't recommend delivery. The host is extremely dismissive and then abusive to me. telling me to "calm tf down" and "im the only one here!" not an appropriate response to "I'm here to pick up an order... no I didn't give you a name yet."

Yelp
I went here with some shipmates for our lunch break. I had some crab Dip that came out with pita bread. The dip was excellent, extremely better than I was expecting. Whenever I see crab dip I usually think it will be imitation crab breadsticks. This crab dip sauce was more of a mayonnaise/chipotle base that had chunks of crab in it. With the pita bread this appetizer was filling and more than enough to take home. As an entree, I had their chicken sandwich and fries. I wasn't impressed by it, it was just okay. BBQ sauce can make some okay things taste better though, so that's what I got to go along with it. One of my shipmates said these were some of the best fries he ever had. On the way to go they were giving me a plastic container with no top to put my to go food in because they couldn't find their to go boxes (funny right?). They ended up finding the boxes which helped out a lot because it would've been a weird walk back to the car with a plastic container of food, especially the crab dip.

Yelp
I went to this place for a MSU vs DUKE watch party. The pleasantries .......this place has the potential to be a nice little spot to watch sporting events and socialize. Nice location in Southeast and metro assessable. The negatives ..... this place is understaffed (impossible to order food and drinks when they are busy). One of the bar tenders told me "he's doing 15 things right now, so whatever it is, it will have to wait". The other bar tender screwed up my order (I ordered Jerk Wings and Mac N Cheese ...... I end up getting a plate of regular fried wings). The drinks are watered down. and they ran out of Jack Daniels (which should be a sin). I don't think I will be back. I took a picture of my wings, but not even worth posting. From what I saw, the burgers did look pretty good.

Yelp
i ordered through ubereats and can only speak for the food, which unfortunately was gross. i got the buffalo chicken dip, margarita pizza, caesar salad, and some fries. the margarita pizza had cilantro on it instead of basil. the buffalo dip was frankly gross and had slimy chicken and a weird taste. the caesar salad didn't even get packaged so i can't speak for that. the fries were okay i guess.

Yelp
To be clear, the 3 stars of this review are really only for the food. Service - This is the 3rd I've come here on a Monday night. The first Monday it was deserted, we got ok service. The second Monday we came here my friend asked to change the TV to a different game and the server responded, "I have a lot of things on my to-do list, and that is on the bottom". Ok, you're busy but that's exceptionally and excessively RUDE. Today is the third Monday I've been here with friends. We arrived around 7:45 and our table ordered a pitcher of beer, a vodka soda and I ordered a pepperoni pizza roll & cheese pizza roll. That was 45 minutes ago. My friend received a regular cheese pizza with apologizes for messing up the order 20 minutes ago. I think they are EXTREMELY under staffed (1 bartender and 2 servers for the whole floor???) but unfortunately that shouldn't be taken out on the customer. Food - I've had the pizza roll before, it was delicious. (Update) I finally got my pizza roll and it was undercooked BUT they're usually very good. Atmosphere - They just redid the second floor and it's pretty nice for a casual night out with a date or a group of friends. A bunch of small booths and 8-10ppl tables.

Yelp
The Ugly Mug is a total dive and you can expect everything to be at that level. Service? Divey. Food? Divey. Drinks? Divey. Everything is serviceable, the price is cheap and the place is dank. The crowd often fits the vibe. The not "divey" part of Ugly Mug is the bar has wireless chargers. Win.

Yelp
Menu changed since last year but took a turn for the worse. Limited selection and just wasn't that good. Got the wings which were the best, followed by a burger and pizza and both were extremely salty and not memorable. Drinks are fine, bartenders are fine, and we'd come back to watch some football. Maybe just not to eat.

Yelp
LOVED coming to the Ugly Mug to watch football games. Had a really disappointing experience a few Sundays ago. I looked at the brunch menu and brought some friends for Sunday funday. I sat down and ordered a mimosa, and the server was stunned that I asked for a brunch menu. According to the waitress "the only brunch we serve are mimosas." I promptly finished my drink and left to another bar down the street. Management should know that if you no longer serve something, it probably shouldn't be listed as a complete menu item online.

Yelp
'Ello chaps! The Ugly Mug is in some district of D.C., what do I know, I don't live there? I DO know that this place may be called Ugly but the restaurant looks pretty and the food is even prettier. In a good way. Great service, damn good food, and we loved the atmosphere. This is a great spot for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Don't ever go see what passes for comedy here. The product was already atrocious before a white comic gets up and starts making jokes about slavery and the Holocaust. Beyond offensive. Walked out and never coming back here.

Yelp
Great place to dine. Great place to catch the game. And food was very flavorful for a sports bar.

Yelp
Ugly mug is a second floor sports bar next to Rose's Luxury, so we stopped in before joining the line for a quick drink. There is a ton of space, some with dinner style tables, others surrounding the bar, and there are TVs everywhere. Tons of TV coverage with numerous sports, and even It's Always Sunny, entertaining the afternoon Monday crowd. This feels like the type of place to grab a beer while enjoying the game, but they also have numerous draft cocktails. I went with the rye manhattan, which is a bit fruitier than your typical manhattan, but still enjoyable. My date's choice, the extra beauty, was basily and cucumbery. She dug it. The real star was the service, as the bartender was quick, fun, and brought smiles to our faces while serving up our drinks.

Yelp
We came here for a Lehigh/Lafayette football telecast that our alumni put together. The space was perfect for that type of telecast but it was understaffed. We had to order from the bar to get our meal, but our meals came super late. Husband ordered the burger medium rare, it came out medium well. The tater tots were crispy, so i guess that's a plus?!? We then never got our beers either. Kid-related notes:The place is spacious enough for strollers and had two highchairs, but no changing station in the bathroom. I had to change my 10 month old son while sitting on the toilet. As you can imagine, not the most appetizing thing. With so many sport bars around and being in an area that's kid friendly, i was really surprise that bathroom lacked a basic necessity.
