A New Roman-Style Pizza Place Makes Its Way to Cité du Multimédia | Eater Montreal

"I'm noting a new Roman-style al taglio pizza spot called Ugo Pizzeria, set to open very soon in Cité du Multimédia, the neighbourhood sandwiched between Old Montreal and Griffintown. Named for chef and co-owner Ugo DiNunzio (whose pizza co-owner Frank Candido says he first fell in love with at the now-closed Pummaró), the shop will showcase DiNunzio’s 100-year-old family recipe: cold-fermented dough transformed into rectangular slices. A preview menu lists eleven varieties each of pizza rossa (red) and pizza bianca (white), plus cassone (folded flatbread), piadina, and Bari-style rounded focaccia; the red pizzas use homemade tomato sauce and fior di latte with meats like sausage, salami, bacon and capicollo as well as cheese and veggie toppings, while the white pizzas are layered with fior di latte and include options such as gorgonzola, mushrooms, porchetta and asparagus. By-the-slice prices range from $6 for the Alessia (tomato sauce, fior di latte, anchovies, capers, olives and pesto) to $10 for the Fabrizia (caviar, smoked salmon, capers, dill and crème fraîche), and the menu is rounded out with salads, arancini and desserts. There will also be a takeout DIY option with prepared dough and toppings, and the dine-in plan calls for a few high stools and an outdoor terrasse by summer. Joined by partners Panos Koulouris and Lily Koutsos, DiNunzio and Candido overcame COVID-related delays, sourcing ovens and mixers from different parts of the country, finishing renovations and hiring staff, and now expect to open within the next month or so; as Candido joked, “I’m not interested in running a restaurant, but I am interested in this dough!” Ugo Pizzeria will open at 681 rue de la Commune, offering dine-in, takeout and delivery." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars I had an amazing experience at Ugo Pizza in the Old Port. I ordered the Sofia pizza and some fries — everything was fresh, delicious, and full of flavor. The pizza was cooked perfectly and the fries were crisp and satisfying. What really stood out was the customer service. The staff were friendly, fast, and genuinely attentive. You can feel they take pride in what they do. Highly recommended. I’ll definitely be coming back!

In Montreal? Stop here!! ⭐️ Had a wonderful experience at Ugo! 5 generations of love in the crust the was soft and tender inside, crispity and light on the outside. MMMMmmmmMmMm. So good. The slices are generous and irresistible. Thought I’d only eat half, I was wrong. Lovely team operating. Cozy seating area. We hope to go back before we head back to US. 😋

Cute, quick pizza spot. These are rustic. Focaccia style squares (not slices). Lots of options. The mixed Italian salad is also very tasty. Service was excellent.

Amazing Sourdough roman style pizza, loved the Sabrina, Rosina and the Zina, some of the best Roman Pizza I ever had. Lily the owner was super nice and knows her stuff, we had a great conversation! Hope to see an expansion up north in Laval one day. Much love.

Staff was incredible and efficient! We tried the Sabrina, Maria and their classic Peperoni Pizza's and they were incredible. Their foccacia bread is incredible as well! Highly reccomend for a quick and delicious slice in Old Montréal!

Google
Just received the four squares of pizza that I ordered for lunch: 1. They are much smaller than they looked in the pictures. 2. The crust is so big that each piece is really half a piece of pizza and half a piece of dry crust. 3. They are burnt. The pizza part itself tasted good, but there is no way this is worth it. The corner piece I had was literally TWO bites and the rest was burnt bread… I don’t understand why this place has such good reviews. Very disappointing.

Google
We walked 40 minutes to have this pizza and it was amazing ! Soft on the inside , crust was just right. So much to choose from. I had the "Gloria", and took half with me for later. Ask for the hot oil, not hot to me but tasty. Super friendly staff, small seating area.

Surprisingly good lunch when we went to Montreal. Very affordable for a quick lunch and super tasty too!! The Arancini is better than some casual dining restaurant I had in fact!

Yelp
Pizzeria Ugo recently opened on de la commune and immediately caught my eye. They offer an extensive selection of homemade pizza al taglio, rectangular slices baked in large pans. These are perfect portions to grab on the go and enjoy as you wander around Old Montreal or along the canal through Griffintown. However, you can also order larger portions or entire trays. Ugo's pizza is made from their own dough recipe which is double baked resulting in a wonderful crust that is nice and crispy on the outside, yet perfectly chewy inside. The toppings are abundant and look terrific. My mouth is watering just thinking about their pizza. As soon as you enter their restaurant you'll be overwhelmed by the huge selection of great looking slices that are awaiting your selection. Some of the options include spicy salami and eggplant, prosciutto and mozzarella, peperoni, roasted vegetables, really there are just to many great options to name. You've just go to stop in and see for yourself.
