Definitely get the soft serve here. Don’t think the other snacks are worth it. Pretty spacious place to hangout and play board games. It’s self order at the machines and finished items are brought out at the counter for pick up. Not a particularly inviting space though. Something about it just feels under construction or industrial, not exactly what I expect from a dessert shop. But it works.

Google
It was my first time here and seemed similar to Somi Somi. I loved the Taiyaki croissant with Nutella and banana above the regular Taiyaki; was delicious and highly recommend it. The soft serves and milk tea was also great. They have a few board games you can play there or bring your own. The bathroom was a little sketchy, but everything else was nice.

Google
On one visit, the ticket machine was broken and I (among others) had to wait around half an hour before getting my order. The employee was just sitting in the back on their phone and didnt know that there were orders waiting to be made, nor did he check. Wait times are often a little long and they frequently seem understaffed, or with bad staff. They frequently have new flavors and seasonal options, but overall the quality is poor. This is one of those restaurants where it looks amazing but it does not taste as good as it looks.

Google
A cute Japanese-style soft serve joint on Telegraph in the heart of Berkeley. Not your standard flavours but all really good. And if you don’t like the desserts there are some arcade machines too! Definitely recommended.

Google
Japanese-style soft serve ice cream in a fresh and warm taiyaki cone filled with your choice of filling! Black sesame is my favorite flavor with sweet red bean filling in the cone. The seasonal flavor is always changing and there are some really unique flavors (see photos). Taiyaki is a Japanese treat made on a grill press with batter and a filling. Fillings may include sweet red bean, custard, or Nutella. The outside is slightly crispy and the inside is soft and fluffy. Paired with ice cream it's a dream!

Google
Uji Time has a few locations around the Bay Area and this is their Berkeley location. The matcha here is pretty decent and authentic which makes for a great treat after a meal. There’s lots of room to sit down with friends and they even have some board games you can grab while you sit and eat. One word of caution, if you’re looking to get the prices you see on the menu, make sure to order with the cashier and not through the SnackPass kiosk which upcharges on the price. Besides that this place is nice.

Google
The soft serve was great! The taiyaki on top of it was yummy and the red bean filling in it was delish. Tried the taiyaki croissants and it didn’t live up to my expectations. I got the nutella one, and I thought it was just going to be nutella but it had banana in it too, which I don’t like. I wish it was listed somewhere because I wouldn’t have gotten it if I knew it was in there. Also anyone who was allergic to bananas would’ve been in for a nasty surprise. I also think anyone who’s had traditional taiyaki anywhere else and craved that probably might not like the taiyaki croissant option they had. The facility could’ve also been a little cleaner.

Google
I got the deluxe taiyaki with 2 flavors: ube & matcha. The ube is very rich and creamy, and has a velvety texture. The matcha tastes like actual green tea and is probably my favorite. Its very good soft serve. The teiyaki was warm when first served. Overall a super satisfying ice cream experience.

Yelp
4 pk mochi covered strawberries $15. Order and pay on e-pad. Get goodies when number is up. Enjoy!

Katelynn V.

Yelp
Ube or u bae ? This was the best ube soft serve ice cream I've ever had and I don't even like ube all that much. It's smooth, creamy, a beautiful vibrant purple, and perfectly sweet! I also like the vibes of the place and how spacious it is. They have large tables which I love! It seems like a nice place to study but I'm not sure if they have free wifi. I tried calling a few times but nobody picks up LOL. They also have a claw machine for cute plushies. I would totally come back to try the other flavors and the taiyaki here.

Yelp
So sad to see todays the last day that Uji time will be open in Berkeley! It's definitely sentimental to me cause I've been here so many times since it opened on Telegraph. It's unfortunate landlords seem to be pushing out local businesses here. Hopefully they will reopen in Berkeley with a new location and other spots around the bay too! I know they've closed a few other locations they had too. But luckily there's still the SF and concord location! I always loved coming here when I was shopping/hanging out with friends on Telegraph in Berkeley. It was the first place I had ever tried Taiyaki with a soft serve in it! Its so tasty and still one of my favorite places to get it from rather then a bigger company like somi somi. It will be missed! I came the other night and it was super popular and crowded as always. RIP Uji time Berkeley! Thanks for the memories!

Veramay N.

Yelp
We came here for some soft serve taiyaki and were greeted by the very nice employees. They were very patient considering I had many family members with me ordering at the same time and making changes so I do appreciate their help in navigating us through the menu and being kind. There was a a small amount of seating but the place itself is not very spacious so you may not have seating. We ordered red bean filling taiyaki with matcha soft serve and you do get toppings included and we chose pocky sticks (pictured) and then another with ube soft serve (not pictured). Overall, it was a good dessert. This is not complaint but rather just to inform you that it is a pretty large portion of soft serve so I recommend sharing. We made the mistake of ordering one each and could barely finish half and unfortunately threw the remaining soft serve as it was so filling and the portion was large. The taiyaki was fresh and the red bean filling was not too sweet. Both ube and matcha flavor soft serves were wonderful with just enough flavor that was not artificial tasting. Everything tasted of better quality than others we have tried. Enjoyed this place and would recommend if you are looking for a sweet treat with asian flavors.

Claudia S.

Yelp
This Uji Time is constantly out of the classic menu items, and not a single time when I showed up they were able to make taiyakis. Why?? The soft serve is good but pricey. At this price point, I really just hope they can align with the quality and menu availability as compared to their Concord location.

Mónica P.

Yelp
their ice cream is great! We all enjoyed the different flavors we got and I'm not even a big fan of soft serve style usually. I AM, however, a big fan of matcha and it is nice to find places with some enjoyable matcha desserts. I definitely want to try their cantaloupe drink next time

Yumi R.

Yelp
I just love the walk up kiosks to order. Convenient way of ordering. Got the seasonal gingerbread soft serve and the black sesame with Mochi taiyaki. Both were so delicious. The service was great, it's contactless but we got our order pretty fast. Good ambiance, not too crowded but enough to feel cozy.

Mia H.

Yelp
When I went here, it was later in the evening after dinner and towards closing. The inside of the shop is pretty big and spacious with lots of seating, but the decorating was not the best and the place seemed a bit old. However, we ordered a giant kiosk and got one of their parfaits. The staff was really friendly and we got our order not too long after. Although it was a bit small for its price, it was decorated really cutely (you have to order the toppings you would like on top). Overall, the matcha soft serve was alright--it wasn't bad but I've had better. However, I would definitely come back because of the convenience and it's a really good place to hang out with friends!

Cameron C.

Yelp
Small menu but BIG flavors! The ice cream has a great presentation and is uniquely delicious. I will be coming back! Not to mention it fills the entire area with a mesmerizing waffle smell.

Magda M.

Yelp
A new guilty pleasure I have is popping in here when I walk between UCB and my house. On a hot day (or even less hot ones, I shouldn't lie ), I love a matcha soft serve or black sesame. In the waffle cone or the delicious fish shaped cone. Soooooo good, brings me back to my trips to Japan. Huge space to sit inside if you want to - hasn't ever been too busy when I've been by. Could eat this ice cream far too often (don't tell anyone hahaha).

kimmy s.

Yelp
I came here very excited for some matcha soft serve, only to find all the light out and interior in chaos. Looks pretty closed. So sad.

Marcus C.

Yelp
A solid spot for dessert in South Berkeley! Uji Time serves asian-inspired flavors of soft serve in taiyakis, or fish-shaped pancakes. They have three flavors that never change: matcha, black sesame, and ube. They also have a rotation of seasonal flavors. My favorite is definitely the ube, which packs a lot of flavor. If you order the taiyaki, you can customize it with a variety of toppings. This particular location has a large sitting area where you can enjoy your dessert. Ordering was very simple too, with the kiosk in the front. I will definitely come again for small, quick treat!

Jamee S.

Yelp
Getting ice cream in asian flavors in a fish croissant is Insta-worthy and such a novelty. We came here to introduce this fun food to our family from Switzerland. We ordered on a kiosk but had so many questions and unfortunately no humans were around to answer us. There were 2 people in the back making the orders and 1 person asleep on the couch next to his iPhone. It's a good thing we kinda knew what to get but I wish I could have found out what the toppings were.

Ricca Cathrina E.

Yelp
Quick desert after an activity nearby. Glad we tried it! We had ube and sesame soft serve and banana Nutella taiyaki. Super yummy! Soft serve isn't too sweet and flavors were really good! They have a big interior space. They have board games to use. Kids ate their soft serve while playing rummikub. Staff was really nice and friendly. Will definitely be back here.

Milo P.

Yelp
This is an adorable, affordable date spot ! I would definitely recommend the nutella taiyaki (not pictured) -- although it seems a bit expensive at first glance, I felt that it was worth it. The location is a little dreary (we thought it was abandoned at first glance), but apparently sometimes they host live music, which may pick up the vibes. I've been to a few iterations of this chain, and this is the first one to use snackpass exclusively, so I'm unsure if they accept cash-- keep that in mind if that is a concern :)

Leo C.

Yelp
Good ice cream, meh pretty much everything else that we tried here. Their tayaki came out dry and flavorless. But, like I said good ice cream.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Checked out this spot for dessert. The place is really big and seems like a good spot to get some studying done as there's lots of tables. I got the ube/ sesame swirl. The sesame flavor was interesting, I think it was a tiny bit too salty.. making it a bit strange. The ube flavor was good and creamy, and the taiyaki was good!

Megan D.

Yelp
Honestly, I expected more from Uji time because it seems really popular. The black sesame ice cream tasted like chocolate and not like how normal black sesame tastes. The fish was really dense and cold instead of light and airy. We also got the rose lychee ice cream which was good but a little on the sweet side. it's only a limited time flavor but it was probably the best thing there.

Casey Q.

Yelp
A little bit of a let down for me. I had decently high expectations for this place as I've heard a lot of good things about it. Me and my girlfriend got the Black Sesame and Matcha Ice Cream. The Black Sesame was decent with good black sesame flavor but it was a bit too milky for us. The Matcha was a let down for me. The matcha didn't really taste authentic and the matcha powder was super crunchy for some reason. Usually matcha powder is supposed to dissolve in your mouth, but I found myself chewing it with my ice cream. If you're in Berkeley and want ice cream, this place could be an option, but it isn't a must get.

Sarah V.

Yelp
My friend and I were in the area, and we wanted to grab some quick dessert since we saw that they had strawberry daifuku. The ordering process was quick, and the strawberry Mochi was pretty decent. I wish the strawberry tasted more fresh and sweet, but overall, it wasn't a bad try

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Ube Parfait was delicious! I came here from the photos and looking up ice cream! I was in awe - Asian unique flavors of ice cream! They have Lychee, Hong Kong Milk Tea, Tofu, Red velvet chocolate flavored ice cream and more! I bought the cartons for home! Their taiyaki fish shaped pancake waffle like, is a signature! Dining area could be improved with more coziness.

Sophie C.

Yelp
Stopped in here on a rainy day because we were craving something matcha. It was pretty empty and we didn't see any people working, we ended up having to ring a bell. It's a big open space inside, with somewhat mismatched and outdated decor. It felt a bit dingy and didn't seem that clean, and was very dark. But, the matcha soft serve was good and satisfied us. We like strong matcha, and this was definitely pretty strong with a typical matcha texture. Good soft serve, but probably more enjoyable to take it to go.

Lilly P.

Yelp
This froyo is great! It's not too sweet, but still hits the spot when you want a treat. I recommend!

Thy V.

Yelp
Best. Ube. Soft serve. I've ever. Had. Creamy. Smooth. Perfectly sweet. Constantly thinking about how I can come back through the area just to have it again.

Rachel L.

Yelp
UJI Time has hands down the best sort serve and taiyaki. I've tried Somi Somi and Amausaan Uji Matcha too, and I think UJI Time reigns supreme. I've tried a variety of their flavors -- tofu, matcha, purple yam, ramune -- my favorite has to be the matcha flavor. It's rich, authentic, powerful, but at the same time, not too overbearing when you pair it with another flavor. I find that it particularly goes well with the tofu flavor! One thing to note is that they do routinely swap out their flavors, but they seem to have matcha year-round! You can either opt to have the ice cream in the taiyaki cone, or the ice cream in the cup with the taiyaki on top. I much prefer it in a cup to prevent spillage and to maximize the amount of ice cream. I'm a huge Nutella lover -- the warmness of the taiyaki cone melts the creaminess of the Nutella to perfection. You can also opt for a custard or red bean filling, or no filling if that's what you're into! And for only $7, you can add 2 toppings: my favorites are the matcha powder, pocky sticks, chocolate logo. Tip: check in on Yelp for a free additional topping! Finally, the ambience of the restaurant is very comforting and sociable. There are board games, couches, claw machines (that are impossible to win by the way)!

Christine F.

Yelp
Came here right when it just opened and there was a bit of a crowd. It's my second time here so I know what I want to get. They only have one kiosk though so it's a bit inconvenient if there was a rush of customers. In the past, I got the taiyaki cone and I didn't know it had red bean so I didn't enjoy it. However, I was glad that there's an option to have no fillings. I also got matcha in the past but I wasn't a fan of it back then. Now, I definitely enjoy the matcha soft serve! It's so rich and not as sweet. The only thing I was a bit sad is that the soft serve melts prett fast. Overall, a good experience here. Service is great and parking is best if you can swoop a spot by a nearby garage.

Liz B.

Yelp
Make sure to check in on Yelp for a free topping! Cashierless ordering and a touchscreen await you. Small menu but I highly recommend the ube ice cream! Pure, delicious and perfect with your choice of filling in the cone. I highly recommend the Nutella. And adding toppings is only the cherry on top! I also enjoyed the matcha ice cream. Not too sweet, tasty and refreshing. Great area to sit around and enjoy your treats! They also have drinks but the real star of the menu is that ice cream and taiyaki cone.

Heather S.

Yelp
If you want another dessert spot in Berkeley, look no further!! Uji Time has a wide range of Japanese desserts from taiyaki to fun flavored soft serve ice cream. There is abundant indoor seating and nice workers making it the perfect place to come with friends. Make sure to stop by if you're in the area:) -- - Matcha Parfait ($6.50) // This was the perfect dessert to share! With creamy matcha ice cream and lots of toppings, every bite was a mixture of fun textures and flavors. I especially liked the crunch of the corn flakes in this parfait. Totally recommend!

Michelle K.

Yelp
Really aesthetic AND yummy ice cream! The green tea and the black sesame ice cream flavor is so soft and creamy. The soft serve is in a fish pancake with red bean. It's the classic asian ice cream that come in packets but with matcha! The inside of the café is really cute. There's plenty of seating because of the community tables and there are small tables as well. The have draped lights across the ceiling that make it cute for the background of a photo! Don't get confused with the two cashiers on either side. The café is combined with two places so it might be hard to spot it from the outside as well. But if you want to order the ice cream, make sure to go to the right cashier. Since it's in Berkeley, it's going to be pretty hard to find street parking. There aren't parking lots for this specific place. I just wanted to get the ice cream and leave so my friends and I parked at the closest gas station. It was only about a 5 minute walk and we were back in our car in about 15 minutes. I wouldn't recommend parking there if you're going to stay for a while though and walk around.

Steven L.

Yelp
Everything was meh about this place. Nothing really stood out to me, the ice cream was alright. Decided to try this spot out because it was open night time

Cristina P.

Yelp
GO BEARS Swirl for Cal Day is so pretty and full of school spirit! Golden Yellow Banana Milk with California Blue Vanilla is an awesome combo for everyone visiting Telegraph Ave this weekend

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
This Uji Time is a big and spacious area inside. Parking is paid street parking. It has to been awhile since I came here because I do not remember them having boba before - there were a couple of other boba spots that share this spot with them (Vampire Penguin then Chatte Tea). They have a decent amount of variety to choose from for drinks, especially for a soft serve shop. I ordered two of their boba drinks - I ordered the matcha latte with boba and jasmine milk tea with boba. The matcha latte is a bit gritty, it has a strong matcha taste and it was not as creamy. The jasmine milk tea also has a gritty taste, it has a strong tea taste and it was not that creamy either. The boba kind of broke apart and was on the harder side. I would recommend to stick with their soft serves over the boba drinks, but it was not bad to try it for that one time.

Alex B.

Yelp
Very yummy soft serve flavors and friendly service. The atmosphere is a little sparse and empty but can be enjoyable, especially with the free games along the side wall!

Katie Y.

Yelp
We got a taiyaki cone ($7 now- sign is not updated) with ube ice cream and red bean filling. It was really large so I recommend sharing with another person I thought the fish was really crisp and well done. The ube ice cream was a bit soft and sweet for me but my partner enjoyed it a lot. And it was filled with a generous amount of red bean. Overall a fun afternoon snack! We went on Sunday afternoon and didn't really experience a wait

Christina P.

Yelp
My friend and I went here for dessert! My first time trying taiyaki and it was quite good. Pictured here is the lychee and matcha combo, and I had the ube and black sesame. I couldn't take a photo of mine because it melted so quickly. We both had red bean filling and it was amazing - probably my favorite part! The fish "cake" was tasty. I thought the ice cream portion was alright - flavor was a little off and it melted so fast which made it difficult to eat. The filling and fish portion were the best parts!

Jan-marie V.

Yelp
First time here and couldn't pass up a Ube soft serve on taiyaki cone! Fast and friendly service and interior designs! It is fairly new, the name is not yet displayed over their place, it's located in the old Vampire penguin shop. They had other flavors like black sesame seed, tofu and matcha. It was a pretty hot day, so my ice cream melted really fast and got sort of messy. I think maybe next time I might ask for my soft serve in a cup with the code on the side. Definitely would come back again to try the other flavors and different menu items.

Natalie A.

Yelp
Usually like this place for dessert but I tried to buy one of the gifts in the case today for a present, and no one knew how to sell it to me. One worker took me to a QR code that didn't work, and other didn't know what to do but said they can't take cash (which wouldn't have been an issue). They ended up saying they "don't know if they're selling" (in a display case full of things with price tags) and couldn't offer a solution like even a time to come back when someone who knows the answer is working. Really disappointed because I've had my eye on this gift for someone and would've bought it.

Michael T.

Yelp
The ice cream here is unique! You can get flavors like Ube, Matcha, and Black Sesame (kinda tastes peanut buttery). They previously had a Tofu flavor which sounds kinda weird but was also good (if the owners are listening my mom really wants this flavor back)! I don't know how to explain it but the soft serve feels refreshing/doesn't feel heavy? I enjoy getting the red bean as well! It's nice to hang out here. They have big enough tables for groups of people. I've played some card/board games here (bring your own). If you get the soft serve in the taiyaki cone, be prepared for it to spill a bit as you get to the end and grab a few napkins. Although recently they give the option to have the ice cream in a cup and the cone on top! I think that's the way to go nowadays.

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
This place has the cutest dessert! I love the way the soft serve and taiyaki are presented. We wanted to try as many flavors as possible so we got the matcha and Ube swirl. The matcha was stronger and more bitter than I expected (which I like!) and the Ube actually had a distinct purple yam flavor that I think a lot of Ube flavored ice creams tend to miss. The dessert was super messy to eat. I split it with my boyfriend (perfect amount for both of us to share!) and we really struggled to keep it from dripping everywhere The chocolate stick was okay -- I think the flavor wasn't that strong and I would've preferred a pocky stick. The rice pearl topping surprised me though! I wasn't expecting much but it added a really nice crunchy texture to the whole thing. I would definitely come back here to try their black sesame soft serve and other hard ice creams because the place seems to nail their flavors super well :)

Katherine G.

Yelp
Funny enough I've haven't ever gotten the soft serve from this location, but have gotten the mochi ice cream twice! The first time I got matcha, and the most recent time decided to try the passion fruit. I remember the matcha one being really good, and I thought the passion fruit was pretty solid too. Prices are quite high for what you get though.

Tracy D.

Yelp
The inside is a little mismatched and hodgepodge but I guess it's telegraph college area. The soft serve was delicious. Had Ube and sesame. The taiyaki fish cones were so good. I filled mine with Nutella. Ordered a pint of Ube to go and 3 taiyaki cones for the kids. Definitely a great treat.

Alejandra A.

Yelp
Super fun and yummy ice cream place! To be honest with you, it was my first time coming here and I was a little bit confused about how to order. I wasn't sure where to start on the menu and how to go down adding things, and reflecting back I wish I had added a scoop of the red bean paste that looked delicious. Nonetheless, the taro ice cream was really good! I got it with pearls sprinkled on top and the condo of the bottom half was fresh, cakey, and thick. Not stale at all!

Amy Y.

Yelp
My son and I went today to try the taiyaki - we got the croissant taiyaki - one with adzuki red beans and one with ham and cheese. Both were horribly undercooked - they were crispy on the outside and on one end, but the inside layer of both was undercooked (not at all?). The ham and cheese had a distinct layer of pepper in the middle - some people might like that, but it was too spicy for us. And the Adzuki bean paste was billed as homemade on the sign, but it was dry and the beans were undercooked and hard. As they came off the machine, the guy brushed them with honey, which seemed like a good idea flavor-wise, but didn't work well with this thing we think of as finger food. We were unfortunately very disappointed with the food in all ways.

David L.

Yelp
Great ice cream and a lot of flavors. I really liked the inside. My favorite was the black sesame flavor ice cream....

Ally H.

Yelp
Cute place to rest and hangout! I for the taiyaki with matcha & white peach! Both flavors were strong and tasted great! However, the taiyaki itself tasted like it wasn't made fresh at all!! It was heard to chew and swallow :( it was pretty disappointing I couldn't finish it only the ice cream. Overall the ice cream was great but the taiyaki should be the main part made fresh/made to order

Dannie Y.

Yelp
Went to this ice cream place been many many times ! Really love their ice cream. EVERY single flavor all goooooood! Also good match with small groups ! It's my happy place to go with my friends! Highly recommended!

Christine P.

Yelp
Really good ice cream and Taiyaki cone! Nice staff. Plenty of seating. Parking is the only downside.

Kristin Q.

Yelp
Food: 7/10 Wait time: no wait on a Sunday afternoon Service: N/A served and paid at the counter Portion size: medium This is our second time here and we enjoyed it. A lot of dessert places are closed with COVID but this one is still open. The phone number on Yelp wasnt working for me but we drove by and it was open. This time around the soft serve flavors were sesame and matcha. We both got the matcha, one in a waffle cone and the other in the taiyaki with red bean filling. You can also get a variety of topping for $0.50 each if you would like. I recommend this place. Usually they have three flavors but probably during COVID they aren't making much since business is probably slower.

Odie O.

Yelp
It's pricey but the had watermelon and it was fantastic wish they had this flavor all the time the fish is cute but regular cones are my preference
