These Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes Make the Ideal Lunar New Year Gift - Eater SF

"For now, with her mother as the only other pair of hands in the kitchen, Zheng can only make a very limited number of pineapple cakes each week. This week, she has a few more gift boxes available for pickup at Washington Bakery this Thursday, February 11, with a February 8 deadline to put in your order. That said, Home Flavory Eats will continue selling the cakes throughout the holiday season, with at least one more pop-up at Washington Bakery next week, on February 18, in addition to its usual pickup times at Uji Time’s San Mateo location (Thursday through Saturday, ongoing) and at Zheng’s Castro Valley home (every Thursday afternoon)." - Luke Tsai

Google
The Matcha soft serve with taiyaki was absolutely delicious! You can choose a filling inside for the taiyaki such as Nutella or red bean, and you can also choose two toppings. We chose chemical and Matcha powder. It was a very good deal and the best Matcha flavored ice cream we’ve had in the Bay Area. I also had the tofu soft serve with Ube, and they were really interesting flavors, but I don’t know if I would order it again.

Delia T.

Google
Line was to the door, but moved pretty fast. A bit crowded in the small waiting area. Both Matcha and Sesame ice cream were good - creamy, tasty, and not too sweet. Also noticed that they have Seasonal Flavors - Lavender and Tofu.

Vivian H.

Google
I like their tofu and black sesame ice cream! There IS a swirl option or you can do two flavors; and there are two flavors for the taiyaki - red bean and nutella. What's great is they let you try the ice cream. Ice cream is a bit on the icier side. Plus is - they have stamp cards now!

Milo C.

Google
I've heard of this place and how long the wait can be. Totally understandable given the baking time for fresh taiyaki cones and the ridiculously photogenic nature of their creation. Thankfully we came at a non busy time. The soft serve was decent to good, with a lot of flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet. The warm, chewy taiyaki definitely complemented the melting coolness of the ice cream. One big negative is that the taiyaki didn't hold on to the soft serve well and we ended up dripping everywhere. Messy but enjoyable!

Google
Having had ice cream earlier, I shamelessly herded my dining buddies for a second round of dessert. Inside is a small space with a couple of tables set against an Aloha mural. At the entrance, a sign said 'Line Here,' so I assumed they usually have a line, but there wasn't much of a wait on that Sunday evening. They offer a simple selection of soft serve, which comes in a cup, cone, or taiyaki cone, as well as some mochi. The flavors are matcha, black sesame, and tofu. I tried the tofu, which tastes like soy milk in soft serve form, or even sweet bean curd / douhua. I decided on the black sesame, in a taiyaki cone, of course. It was sweet and refreshing, and has almost a peanut buttery taste. After a few minutes, it started melting fast. That's when I remembered why I usually get my frozen treats in cups instead of cones. The cone was a soft batter, but slightly soggy from holding the soft serve in it. If I were to return, I'd go for the tofu flavor if I am in the mood for a treat. I would not make this part of my normal diet. $6-$7 for dessert is more of a once in a while kind of treat.

Google
Tl;dr get the mochi Soft serve: both black sesame and matcha flavors were OK. The ice cream was very rich but not silk-smooth with a jarring presence of ice particles, presumably due to the extremely popular demand. Taiyaki: the taiyaki cones were fresh and crispy, made from a well balanced batter. Mochi: these were actually much much better exemplars of the quality of their ice cream. The outer layer was nice and chewy. My favorites were the matcha, red bean, and chocolate ones. Chocolate was more on the pricey side, but definitely worth the money.

Teresa C.

Google
I got the matcha with the taiyaki cone and red beans on the bottom. It was icy, and not that tasty. Maybe it was just an off day but I have tried it again. I’d rather go to the flagship store in Japantown.

Zain T.

Google
They had a 50% sale for Veteran's Day! The matcha ice cream is really good and I recommend it over the black sesame and tofu flavors. You can get samples of each flavor to see which you like best. Good spot!

Yelp
Tong Sui is a small drink shop located in Downtown San Mateo. They have limited indoor seating and a rewards system. The staff are super friendly and even offered my friend and I a sample of their mango coconut pudding (would recommend). Christmas Strawberry (5/5) - SO GOOD! At first I was hesitant to order this drink because I didn't really want a strawberry milkshake. However, the barista recommended that I switch it out for their house coconut milk and it was perfect.
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
This Tong Sui is located in downtown San Mateo. Parking is either street parking or there is a parking garage nearby. Service was not the best - the employee behind the counter was not that friendly or welcoming, he looked rather annoyed when he was asked questions and ringing me up. I was intrigued by their new item, the Persimmon Mochi Coconut Pudding, but they were out on my visit. I went for their Mango Mochi Coconut Pudding. I usually do not like coconut, but the coconut flavor was subtle, as the mango was sweet and the mochi texture was a nice addition to it.
google avatar

Jodie S.

Yelp
Amazing option to grab a drink or dessert if you love coconut flavor. But don't worry, coconut isn't all that they've got! Many drinks are coconut free as well. Their drinks and coconut pudding is sweet enough for a sweet treat but not so sweet where you feel sick from the sugar. It also tastes more natural than artificial. Highly recommend the Coco Avocado and any of their coconut pudding. Don't forget to save the jars as you can redeem 10 jars for 1 free pudding. The store itself is very simple with no extravagant decorations. There's ~4 tables inside and another 4 tables outside. They can get pretty busy at night but service is relatively fast.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been going to Tong Sui's Sunnyvale location since 2020, and it's been great to see how consistently good they've remained while continuing to grow. One thing I really appreciate is that they use real, fresh fruit in their coconut desserts. The expanded variety of flavors over the years has been a welcome upgrade, and this San Mateo location is especially bright, clean, and inviting. The selection is always well stocked, and the staff is friendly. As a small aside, the jars used to be a bit larger, but given the wide range of dessert and drink flavors available now, I'm more than happy to give that a pass.
google avatar

Jason P.

Yelp
Tong sui is pure comfort in a bowl. Each spoonful feels both nostalgic and exciting, balancing delicate sweetness with deep, layered flavors that don't feel heavy. Whether it's a silky sesame soup, a fragrant red bean, or a perfectly textured mango pomelo sago, every cup tastes thoughtfully made and beautifully balanced. The flavor, aroma, and care that go into tong sui make it special. It's an experience that soothes the soul and leaves you craving just one more bite. Simple and incredibly satisfying.

Yelp
The coconut puddings from Tong Sui are always a solid lightweight dessert option - not overly sweet and low calories, with plenty of flavors to work through, including seasonal ones. Pricing a tad high at ~$10 per jar, but if you bring back 10 clean jars together to recycle, they give you a free one! This time I tried out the taro & ube sago and the black sesame puddings -- both were lovely! I also got the nutty noir drink which was a black sesame drink which came with mini taro balls, really enjoyed this drink as well, very flavorful with the sesame and the taro balls was a great complement (glad this was the default topping option). Staff member was super friendly and quick to offer to take my order (someone else was at the self-order kiosk) and helpful when I asked about the drink description. I do wish their displayed menu included all items (I only noticed some matcha drink options when the side panel menu rotated to show specials and seasonal options) as well as a description so I didn't need to ask (or use the self-kiosk to find out). All in all, another great Tong Sui location. This location is in downtown San Mateo, so parking is bit harder but there are public lots (free on Sundays) nearby and within walking distance. Interior is pretty small, only 3 small tables, so not really a sit down place, but the dessert/drinks are easy to take to go. Service was quite fast as they don't have as extensive of a "drinks" menu compared to boba shops, so should not ever be too much of a wait. I picked it for the fast turnaround and light dessert, will be back if I'm in San Mateo again!
google avatar

Traci H.

Yelp
When I cannot get my Heytea while I'm in San Mateo, this will do. I love the mango mochi coconut pudding. The texture is so nice and enjoyable; it was surprising the first time because there is a softness to it and the mochi and the coconut pudding have different soft textures with the mango fruit being more solid; but I really love it. Not too sweet. I don't care for the equivalent like drink though but I love the jars. They say you should drink it within a day so don't keep it too long. Jars are part of a recycling program and I think if you turn in 10 bottles you get something. But that means you cannot lose them!
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
They still have Mulberry drinks, which is my favorite! But, they have freshly cracked coconut drinks too now which mimics their Redwood City location. Note, no coffee drinks here though. It's also watermelon season in case you're into that!
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Orders taken at a kiosk but workers were very attentive. We ordered a Strawberry drink, Black Sesame Walnut coconut pudding and the Rosie Lychee coconut pudding. Very good! Not too sweet and real ingredients are used. Coconut taste is like young coconut. Read up on the history of Tong Sui and the owner is Fujianese with HK influences in taste. She also worked at the Michelin Manresa in Los Gatos (which is no longer open). manresa also was known for their bread and pastries, very top notch!
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
Even though I think they need more plant-based options I love their coconut pudding topped with mango puree. It's the best I get it over and over and over.
google avatar

Christina N.

Yelp
I usually get the coco mango drink and coconut pudding dessert here. Today I decided to try their seasonal coconut corn drink. It was good, but not as good as coco mango.
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
After our lunch, I took my mom to here for dessert. She went for the Black Sesame Coconut Pudding and I went for the Lychee Coconut Pudding. Both were smooth, creamy, and full of flavor! Also really appreciated that they were low in sugar, so the flavors came through without being overly sweet. The quality was definitely there, but it's on the pricier side for the portion. Still, it was a satisfying treat post lunch. There are definitely some seasonal flavors that piqued my interest!
google avatar

Gema B.

Yelp
Star is super sweet and attractive and welcoming We ordered the coco mango so yummy my favorite Love they have the kiosk to order or in person Lost or choices but I will stick to my favorite coco mango Location is small cute but great outdoor seating love best for the summertime Over all 5 stars
google avatar

Yelp
I was walking though downtown San Mateo and I wanted a drink so here I am. I ordered the matcha mist. The matcha mist was pretty good. It had a nice blend of the coconut and matcha flavor. The pistachio was also a nice add on. I also really liked that despite how busy this place was when I walked in, my order still came out really quick. I'll definitely be back to try the fresh coconut. Try it out if you like. :)
google avatar

Caili C.

Yelp
I love Tong Sui drinks for a refreshing drink on a warm summer day and this time I dropped by the San Mateo location and got the Coconut Ice Bomb with Watermelon which was delicious! Loved the combination of the creamy coconut ice with pieces of fresh watermelon, giving it an extra hint of sweetness. It was light and refreshing but still felt like a special treat.
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
Their matcha coconut cold brew is amazing! I'm a texture gal and love the pistachio crumble on top. Genius idea! And of course I can forget their delicious puddings. If you're an earl grey fan, try it....you won't regret it. Hope they open more locations in the East Bay or Central Valley!
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
The dessert is really light and refreshing! If you like Melo Melo in LA, it's a bit different but similar. They have a lot of different flavors. We tried mango mochi which was light and refreshing, earl grey flavor was very strong, and if you like black sesame, you'll really like it. The order came out pretty quick which is nice! There's also a lot of seating available (indoor and outdoor seating available). Overall, would recommend it if you like coconut since it's not very sweet!
google avatar

Chastity V.

Yelp
Visited for the first time on June 27 and got the Avocado Mango smoothie with house coconut milk (5/5). Creamy, flavorful, and exactly what I expected from an avocado smoothie! Plus, it was dairy free! I ordered on the tablet in the store and waited about 7 minutes for my drink. Store was clean with some seating inside for individuals or small groups of up to 4 people. I look forward to trying more of their drinks and their vegan coconut desserts!
google avatar

Grace X.

Yelp
I had the Halloween seasonal vegan pumpkin pudding which was amazing! It was pumpkin puree over their classic coconut pudding topped with biscoff crumbs, I thought the texture and flavor were both really nice and it's not overly sweet either. The menu has lots of vegan options and they are well labelled. It is a little pricey, my pudding was almost $10 but I guess you get to keep the nice glass jar which maybe offsets it a bit. They had a tablet kiosk for easy ordering and there are a handful of small tables with chairs inside for seating. My one complaint would be that the wooden spoons they give you are very poorly shaped, the spoon part is very flat so that when you get near the bottom of the jar they're pretty useless.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
*visited on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm Was craving something refreshing & a matcha after eating at palette tea house, and was so happy to see there's a tong sui so close to the hillsdale mall. At this location, you'd order at the kiosk and wait for your name to be called - the kiosk is incredibly easy to use! The shop is slightly small, but they're making drinks/ cranking out orders fairly quickly! There are chairs to sit down, but there's also a large outdoor area with seating available. OKAY THE DRINK: * matcha mist w/ coconut pudding: SOOOOO REFRESHING. Their coconut pudding honestly made the drink much more yummy, even though the drink was already tasty & refreshing. I love that they added a matcha series
google avatar

Mauricio E.

Yelp
Came in for a drink and decided to try one of their jarred coconut desserts. Oh....my.... They are SO GOOD. Even more amazing that they advertise these to be healthy, low-sugar coconut based desserts. Although pricey at around $10/jar, they are incredible. So far we have tried the Earl Grey, Strawberry Matcha, and Mango Mochi. If I had to choose I think the Earl Grey is my favorite but all have been absolutely delicious. They also have a rewards program if you bring back 10 empty, clean jars, they give you one jar free. I will definitely take advantage of this!

Yelp
Stopped by after driving down from Novato. My dad and I got the coconut earth and my dad got the coconut breeze. I slightly preferred mine, the drink was a very large portion and wasn't overly sweet. The price was pretty high ~10 dollars but was pretty unique and I enjoyed the coconut chunks in the drink.
google avatar

Valerie M.

Yelp
Tried a few times here already. Highly recommend this place! A really healthy collection of Asian flavored pudding / drink desserts. Very smartly using as a base, then creatively pairing with many flavors. Very low sugar and calories. Passes healthy freaks like me. It's really hard to choose from, basic ones like mango , matcha , slightly bold ones from Asia like Durian. Also creative combos like coconut & earl gray. My go to ones are Matcha with red beans (super healthy and nutritious) and mango sticky rice (reminds me of Thailand) It's a very cute place to catch up with friends on a beautiful sunny afternoon. With Plenty of outdoor space to sit down. A few small cure tables inside but not much. This place is almost always packed inside. (Just be aware of that) This is one of my go-to hang out places now.
google avatar

haobin g.

Yelp
Try the newest drink today. It's called Coco Earth. It has a very pretty appearance (baby Blue represents the sky and the matcha green represents the land). The taste is very unique since it has coconut meat and coconut water inside and mixed with matcha cream. It also has the house made coconut cloud with coconut flakes on top. The price is considering little expensive compared to all other bobas around. But the size of this drink is big.
google avatar

Lalita G.

Yelp
I love Tong Sui!! I've been coming here for a couple years. The durian always hits. We will always recommend people to come here!!

Jason W.

Yelp
Good experience. Enjoy my dessert and will come back again. Good customer service and atmosphere
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Tong Sui is one of my all time favorite places to go. It's very special to coconut puddings (which are great) but I mainly go here for the fresh fruit drinks that never disappoint. I've tried and love the durian ice bomb and avocado coconut. Today I am trying their new honeydew melon drink (as this is a rare flavor to find AND they use real fresh fruit here, so it was definitely a win!) and it's awesome. I would definitely order this drink again. This location is in downtown so it's nice to conveniently take an urban walk with a drink in hand or sit inside or outside on the chairs with tables.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Tong Sui is a hidden gem! It's a small shop, but somehow still feels spacious inside thanks to the minimalist layout--there's only one small table indoors, but plenty of outdoor seating available. Plus, it's on a blocked-off street, so no cars = peaceful vibes while you enjoy your dessert. Ordering is easy--you can go up to the front counter or use the iPad, which is super convenient. The menu is packed with drink options and a great variety of pudding desserts. Everything came out quickly and the staff was super friendly and helpful. My classmate and I are obsessed with their matcha variations--each one we've tried has been spot on. The puddings are silky, not too sweet, and full of flavor. Definitely a must-visit if you're a fan of Asian desserts or just want a cute spot to hang out.
google avatar

Priscilla W.

Yelp
Tong Sui sells refreshing coconut puddings and coconut based drinks. There are a few tea based drinks, but coconut is their main seller. I love the signature coconut pudding. It's simple, classic, and clean, and it's the base of all their other flavored puddings. If you collect ten jars, you can clean and return them to the store for one free signature coconut pudding.
google avatar

Jacob C.

Yelp
One of my favorite "not too sweet" dessert places. This time I ordered mango mochi coconut pudding. It is very delicate, and has good mango flavor. I have also tried their other ones such as the mango sticky rice pudding which is solid too. If you manage to collect 10 of the containers, you can exchange it for a discount on a future one. Or the containers make good bowls at home to store ingredients or food in

Rajat J.

Yelp
Really tasty and healthy coconut pudding, they even had holiday flavors We got the mango coconut pudding and it was great Highly recommended
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
As a huge fan of all things coconut (especially coconut juice), I just had to try Tong Sui. True to its name, their menu is filled with sweet, juicy treats. While expensive, they're well worth the price; you can't really go wrong with any of the puddings (which come in resealable/reusable containers), or the drinks (which are my favorite). Not much else to say; I absolutely love this place, even with Meet Fresh across the street and Antoni's cookies nearby. I wish everything was slightly cheaper, but perhaps that's for the best, for both my wallet and my diet, since I'd otherwise come back every day.
google avatar

Katrina F.

Yelp
Love this location. The staff person taking our order was very informative. They also have a rain day special, any purchase for 50% off a DHP Tea Latte - we got it iced with less sugar, light ice. Looks very aesthetic, clean, and modern inside. Indoor seating is comfortable and even though it's drizzling outside, this place is super bizzy. Road is closed off outside so parking can be difficult for sure. All in all, would be back!
google avatar

Alyssa O.

Yelp
went here after taishoken and it was within walking distance. a good, light dessert place. it is self-order through an ipad, so that was quick. and our coconut pudding came out fast. i ordered the black sesame one, but also tried the mango mochi, i think i preferred the mango mochi more. would go here again!
google avatar

Clifford W.

Yelp
Street parking, a little difficult with street meter parling, better to to paid parking lot. B Strret was blocked off on weekend. Tong Sui had a lot of walk in orders. I thought we had to order off the iPad, but better to just tell cashier what you wanted. Ipad did not have all entrees which is why we took so long. Improvement needed on ipad menu! Ambiance was like a ice cream store, cash and walk away. Limited tables and chairs. 10 glass jars will get you one free pudding. Pudding was creamy, average. Service average. 4 stars out of 5.
google avatar

Sally C.

Yelp
Tried the Coconut Breeze--mostly coconut flavor, couldn't taste much watermelon. Glad I got less sugar; full sugar would've been too sweet. Not a huge drink menu, but I'd come back to try the pudding. There was a line, but service was fast. Convenient downtown San Mateo location with limited indoor seating but some tables outside. Solid spot overall.
google avatar

Celeste W.

Yelp
This is such a lovely and refreshing dessert for after a meal! I ordered the mango sticky rice coconut pudding, and it was such a lovely mix of textures and flavors! It was fruity and smooth, and the sticky rice offered a nutty and flavorful balance!
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Tong Sui, I owe you an apology.. I thought I had tried your coconut pudding a couple years ago and wasn't impressed. Turns out I unfortunately associated Tong Sui with a similar but different coconut pudding I had in SD (they don't even have a location in SD lol). My fault entirely. Luckily, I had the chance to stop by and ordered a couple different things. The Mango Sticky Rice Coconut Pudding was so delightful! It's such a different take on dessert. I loved the familiar flavors and different textures. Everything just worked so well together. It was perfect and *not too sweet* since most of the sweetness came from the layer of mango. The Milky Persimmon drink w/ crystal boba tasted exactly as that! Milky and persimmony. I should have opted for "less sweet" when ordering through the kiosk but was feeling a little crazy haha. It was really good! Persimmon anything is not seen very often on menus. These desserts are a little pricy, but the quality is excellent. Makes for a great treat yourself treat! Might have to stop by every time I'm in the area now.
google avatar

Polina L.

Yelp
We visited this place for the first time and were pleasantly surprised! The employee, very nice woman, helped me to make a choice by telling me more about each drink I was curios to try. I ended up ordering Cheezo Mulberry drink. My husband got the watermelon tea. Both drinks were super fresh, tasty, and refreshing. The atmosphere was nice, and we definitely plan to come back to try more of their menu!
google avatar

Helen H.

Yelp
I've noticed there are several of these shops located in the bay and decided to try their pudding. You order at the kiosk. I went with the mango mochi coconut. It's pricy at $11, but does come in a cute glass jar. The texture of the dessert was nice and I enjoyed all the light flavors as well. There are a few small tables inside as well as a few outside.
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
Fresh, light coconut jelly desserts that aren't feel too heavy on the stomach. The corn drink is also really delightful, and comes with a naturally sweetened option. There is a little bit of a wait on weekend evenings, but line moves relatively quickly.
google avatar

Mark Anthony P.

Yelp
TONG SUI | San Mateo 1. Signature Coconut Pudding -- coconut water, coconut milk, lactose-free milk, and toasted coconut flakes 2. Mango Mochi Coconut Pudding -- fresh mango and house mochi Tong Sui in San Mateo is a cozy dessert café specializing in traditional Hong Kong-style sweets. Their signature coconut pudding was refreshing and delicious. I would definitely come back to try all the other flavors! Also, they come in glass jars that you can take home too.
google avatar

Thuy Tien L.

Yelp
Nice and refreshing--not too sweet. We got the mango pudding. Only thing better would be if it was fresh mango than purée to break up the texture. But I guess that's why they have mochi and rice flavors with mango too. We also got the coco earth. More watery than I expected, but I like that you can adjust the sweetness level.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall 3.75 Stars - Visiting for the 1st time in San Mateo's downtown district, I discovered this place after having a pleasant meal at another establishment and needed something sweet to end the day. 3.5 Stars - Ambiance. Located in a rustic brick building, it is more of a grab and go place with very limited indoor and outdoor seating. You order your dessert from a tablet even though you are looking right at the person at the front counter; kinda' strange. Also, need a CC or debit card to pay; no cash. 3 Stars - Service. Not much to say but the person hands you the dessert or drink, napkin, and a wooden recycle spoon. 4 Stars - Food. I preferred the Mango Sticky Rice Coconut Pudding $10.95 I was pleasantly surprised the dessert was in a glass container. It was cold and it contained homemade purple sticky rice, coconut milk pudding and layered with fresh mango paste and chunks. The sticky rice was sweet enough to balance the mild coconut pudding and the hint of sourness of the mangos. I would definitely get it again. The dessert was delicious and not overly sweet. Most Chinese desserts are not too sweet which was excellent for me after the surf and turf meal I had devoured recently. The sticky rice was the bottom layer, coconut pudding the second layer, and mango as the first layer. Make sure to scoop all 3 items to have a balance bite. The dessert can eaten very quickly, so take your time. Also, I recommend water or one of their refreshing drinks. NOTE: 1. There are Vegan desserts and drinks too. 2. They have a recycling container for your glass container if you finish the wonderful desserts at their establishment 3. They have a lot of seasonal options There are multiple locations in California, so check their website. I wish they were closer to my home state in the South. Excuse the picture, I brought to the hotel room to eat after finishing some work.
google avatar

Tammy P.

Yelp
Impressive! 1. I've wanted to try the puddings here for a while and finally stopped by for their persimmon products. 2. We tried the milky persimmon drink (less sweet) and it tasted exactly like the name suggests. It wasn't very sweet and tasted like a ripe hachiya persimmon with some creaminess to it. The crystal boba is the perfect topping for this drink. 3. The prices are a bit higher than expected but you're paying for fresh fruit.
google avatar

Ashley Y.

Yelp
the Durian Coconut Pudding is so good.Has a bold, (very) distinctive flavor of durian. But pudding is velvety and the coconut compliments the durian well. Durian wasn't too overpowering I like how light and creamy the texture was. I loved the Asian flavors that aren't too common to find especially the more daring ones. But be warned, it might not be for everyone due to the distinctive taste. Order at the front or electronically at the kiosk, grab a seat outside and give it a try!

Yelp
So glad they started serving drinks at this location in addition to their awesome coconut pudding desserts! What started as a small pop up in Sunnyvale now has multiple locations in the Bay. Tong Sui is growing fast and that's no surprise given that the founder was a product manager for Tencent and she used her expertise in tech to tackle the dessert/boba industry. The San Mateo location is relatively new and unlike Redwood City it initially didn't offer drinks but so glad that changed quickly. The specific store is small but it's still very cozy and clean with a few tables for the people that want to stay in. It's also centrally located in the heart of downtown San Mateo. Tong Sui offers premium Asian desserts and high quality boba drinks! The menu was designed by the former Lead Designer of HeyTea from Asia. What they are best known for is their premium coconut pudding with the option of various toppings. For me it receives the best and highest compliment for any Asian dessert - it's not too sweet. It's the perfect balance of high quality ingredients with just enough handling of the ingredients to make them shine. Don't sleep on their drinks. They have solid base choices with creative seasonal ones that are always worth trying out. Similar to their desserts, they focus on premium ingredients and simple preparation. The company pays attention to every step of your experience - from the appearance of the store and their menu, giving it an elevated feel and sense of occasion, to the quality of their cups, jars, and obviously the exceptional desserts and drinks. It all culminates in a memorable positive experience that makes you want to come back.

Yelp
I came with oh a Sunday and was able to order fairly quick! We got a coconut in a shell which came with coconut Milk and water pudding. We also got a signature glass pudding. The coconut pudding tasted exactly like coconut water and was super refreshing! There is a parking garage that is a close walk. This place has a couple of tables inside and out and is great for friends. Hopefully they open more locations :)

Yelp
Such a unique drink with their sesame drink, really good and quite enjoyable for somebody that enjoys the nutty flavors of black sesame Asian desserts without it being sweetened (tbf I also got less sweetness) In fact all their drinks my friends got were quite good so what makes me rate this less than stellar? Well their prices are a bit on the higher side, I do value that they have quality ingredients and this place clearly has a following since there was a line and crowd outside but I found nearly $7 for every drink with some nearing $10 is kinda not normal imo. I won't deny their drinks were good but damn I do believe they're on the higher side Overall given the price but also how good the drinks were I would come back albeit every so often. Despite the rating it's a high four stars for me. Seating is extremely limited so that is a slight knock but overall with nice weather recently at night it's a great area to walk around and explore downtown San Mateo if your okay with a lot of families, kids, high schoolers, and young college students running around. It less yuppy like in other cities in the Peninsula
