10 of Montreal’s Best Casual Japanese Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"Decked out in wooden panels and faux graffiti, Kinoya is a cool little izakaya tucked away near the St Denis and rue Rachel intersection (not to be confused with the newly opened Kinoya Kushi Bar, although it’s from the same owners). It’s a something-for-everyone kind of institution, with all sorts of staples such as gyoza, yakitori, karaage, and takoyaki. It’s also a great spot for bentos and ramen at lunch." - Tiffany Chan

It was my first time eating here and we had an amazing experience, the food was really great and even the presentation was wonderful. I’d want to eat here again but there’s one thing I’d want to improve here and it’s the lack of images for the menu. For most of the food we want to see how it looked like and also wanted to consider the portion size. However the food was good either way. I’d recommend visiting and try out the foods here.

Went for the $25 AYCE. I would say the quality of the food is mediocre. Not disgusting but nothing exceptional. Overall it’s still a good deal for the price you pay especially with the cocktail. It’s too bad because the rest of the menu looks really good. We got there at 3pm on Saturday. No wait and received our first order really quickly.

I went during their happy hour on a Friday. We had tried to come before for the happy hour deal but there was a line up and we couldn’t get a table. This time we got lucky and the place wasn’t too busy around 4pm! The all you can eat tapas were great and is probably the best happy hour deal in Montreal.

Nice restaurant for Japanese tapas and drinks. Very cozy vibe. The shrimp tempura and the abalones were excellent. The takoyakis and brochettes were mediocre. I also enjoyed the sashimi. Very good pricing.

Went there for lunch on my birthday. We ordered apps and ramen and every dish was fantastic. The drinks were delicious too! Would definitely back again!

Went there late at night with a couple of friends and had a great time. The staff were nice, patient and made us feel welcomed! The drinks were really good and generously portionned. The food came out at a reasonable time, it was fresh, meat was juicy, and my unagi bowl was the perfect savory-sweet I was looking for. Desserts tasted amazing as well, the mousse cakes were smooth, and the ice cream was rich. Needless to say, it was an amazing end of the week for me and my friends :)

Went for the lunch menu. Great food and service. I would recommend stopping for a good meal. Upgrade to a Bento box for only $5. Green tea with the meal was a lovely touch.

Yelp
We went for the all you can eat special. They have a menu that includes 11 items and a drink for 25$ pretty good deal. From 3pm to 6:30pm. The waiter kept on checking to see if everything was okay. The aesthetics are ok nothing to extra but cozy.
