10 of Montreal’s Best Casual Japanese Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"Decked out in wooden panels and faux graffiti, Kinoya is a cool little izakaya tucked away near the St Denis and rue Rachel intersection (not to be confused with the newly opened Kinoya Kushi Bar, although it’s from the same owners). It’s a something-for-everyone kind of institution, with all sorts of staples such as gyoza, yakitori, karaage, and takoyaki. It’s also a great spot for bentos and ramen at lunch." - Tiffany Chan

I went during their happy hour on a Friday. We had tried to come before for the happy hour deal but there was a line up and we couldn’t get a table. This time we got lucky and the place wasn’t too busy around 4pm! The all you can eat tapas were great and is probably the best happy hour deal in Montreal.

Went there late at night with a couple of friends and had a great time. The staff were nice, patient and made us feel welcomed! The drinks were really good and generously portionned. The food came out at a reasonable time, it was fresh, meat was juicy, and my unagi bowl was the perfect savory-sweet I was looking for. Desserts tasted amazing as well, the mousse cakes were smooth, and the ice cream was rich. Needless to say, it was an amazing end of the week for me and my friends :)

Went for the lunch menu. Great food and service. I would recommend stopping for a good meal. Upgrade to a Bento box for only $5. Green tea with the meal was a lovely touch.

We ate on the terrace but the lights inside were really dimmed which looked nice to me. The lamb skewers I ordered were great and my cocktail was ok too. I took a sip of the piña colada my friend ordered and it tasted great too! Would like to go back one day 👍

For a very fair price you'll get good quality food, the staff offers a great service and makes sure everything is going smoothly throughout your meal. This place is perfect for a night out with friends juste as much as it is perfect for a first date. I'll definitely be recommending this place to others.

Tried this restaurant with friends and we opted for the unlimited tapas menu that also includes a cocktail, which I quite enjoyed! Overall, the food is good and filling although I do wish there were more options. Service was great.

This Japanese restaurant is an absolute gem for happy hour! For just $25, you get an all-you-can-eat menu and a cocktail from 3:00 to 6:30 PM every day. 🎉😋👍 My favorite was the salmon tartar—so fresh and perfectly seasoned. 🤤 We also tried the passion fruit mojito and the summer purple sake cocktail. Both were fantastic, but the summer purple sake truly stood out—it was smooth, refreshing, and complemented the meal perfectly. 🍹💜🍶 The value for the price is unbeatable. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy Japanese cuisine and cocktails on a budget! 🌟🥂👍

Very tasty dishes. We tried sashimi, baby octopus salad, chicken gyoza, and Tsingtao beer (Chinese).

Yelp
We went for the all you can eat special. They have a menu that includes 11 items and a drink for 25$ pretty good deal. From 3pm to 6:30pm. The waiter kept on checking to see if everything was okay. The aesthetics are ok nothing to extra but cozy.
