"This restaurant with an informal yet elegant ambience that is perfect for couples takes its name from the Swahili word for “fork”. In the completely open kitchen, the focus is on a gastronomic experience that is timed to the second, given that every guest ordering the surprise menu starts their meal at exactly the same time." - Michelin Inspector

What a great experience this was! We reserved the essence experience which consisted of approximately 7 to 8 courses! We walked into a very open space that looked like someone's living room with a lab like kitchen in the middle. We were seated close to the kitchen which was great as we could watch the two chefs working their magic. The table already had some sourdough bread with a miso butter, some smoked salmon, chive butter and a crispy taco like dish. Everything was very delicious. We then started with the tasting menu. Everything was very good but a few courses stood out. The onion soup mousse, the taco, the ravioli, the eggplant and the dessert were outstanding!

We chose Uma for the most important day of our lives - our wedding. It was an intimate celebration for the two of us, and having dinner at this restaurant was the best decision we could have made. Every detail was flawless, and every dish was absolutely stunning! Thank you to the entire team for the warm welcome and for creating such culinary masterpieces. You made our day perfect!

We chose Uma for our final meal in Spain, expecting a Michelin-level experience. Unfortunately, it was the most disappointing meal of our trip and fell well below standard. Two of the three fish dishes contained fish scales — an oversight that is unacceptable in any serious kitchen, let alone one bearing a Michelin plaque. When flagged, the initial response was to laugh it off rather than apologise. Only after pressing the matter did we receive acknowledgment. A second time (dish) we raised the issue, it was brushed aside with “it happens,” which left us stunned. An eggplant mousse revealed another lapse: wood chips. The explanation shifted from “part of the eggplant” to “a piece of stem,” neither of which justified its presence on the plate. Such foreign matter should not make it past the pass. The venison course was also inconsistent: one portion served medium, the other well-done. At this level, consistency across the table is a basic expectation. Service, while prompt, often felt mechanical and dismissive. Questions were cut short with a hasty “yes,” and the pacing of the meal was dictated entirely by the chef’s workflow rather than the diners’ rhythm. We were served starters before even finishing the amuse bouche. If guests are expected to follow the chef’s timing, then the execution should at least be flawless. What left the worst impression, however, was the chef’s indifference. Despite multiple serious issues raised, he never once addressed the situation personally, leaving the front-of-house staff to fumble through inadequate explanations. At a Michelin-recognised restaurant, accountability from the kitchen is non-negotiable. The only redeeming point was efficiency, but efficiency without attentiveness or care is hollow. The combination of careless execution, dismissive handling of complaints, and a lack of ownership made this the lowest point of our trip. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but what distinguishes Michelin establishments is how they are handled. At Uma, both the food and the response fell far short of expectations. I’ll park my calories and wallet some where else.

Google
A very special experience at the kitchen counter where chef explained each creative and delicious dish that was put in front of us. Relaxed, yet elegant, highly recommend for a memorable meal.

Food was terrific. The chef has a passion for delicious food by combining interesting flavors. Love the open cooking concept as the kitchen is out in the open for everyone to see. The chef prepared each dish by himself, and he put great care into each one. Plating was well done, and they were able to accommodate dietary restrictions well. Had the full course menu, but was a little surprised that it did not feature more items for the price. The menu came to 186 euros per person. To me, this feels like something that would have been with 2 or 3 more items at least. They said the base menu was 125 euros and sold us on the full menu by saying it would come with meat and some surprises from the chef. There were no surprises, or at least they didn't tell us what those surprises were, if/when they brought them out. They also recommended the cheese plate, which was an extra 30 euros. We tried it...nothing special. It should have been included in the price of the upgraded menu, in my opinion. Wine was terrific. Really complimented the dishes and was recommended perfectly. Dessert at the end was also delicious way to end the night.

Google
A shout out to all staff at Uma restaurant. From the chef to servers and sous chefs... Too notch service. The art of perfection. The serving of food on the dish was perfection. Did not have to wipe the dish. Every placement of food was intended in the its right spot. They serve all tables altogether like being at a your families house for dinner. The food was top notch. Enjoyable small servings. Delicious courses

Google
Arzac it isn't. Three tasting menus are essentially the same basic menu with some extras added in the other two. The menu is heavy on fish with virtually no meat (just one dish out of 10, a practically invisible slice of meat) No customary question regarding food allergies. The restaurant was able to accommodate the request not to include fish at a short notice, which was helpful, but it would be better if the tasting menu was more balanced. Adding black caviar to a chocolate dessert seems to be a strange choice. The presentation was great and every dish was very elaborate but overall it felt more form than substance.

Google
My girlfriend and I went for dinner here and the experience was amazing. Surprising and delicious dishes with aesthetic presentation. The waiters were kind and explained every dish to us and if we had questions the chef took his time to answer any doubts. We had the classic menu with the wine tasting and got the extra truffel for the pasta. Everything was great and we can recommend the place to others.

Yelp
While the service and ambiance were commendable, the food was a bit disappointing. The tasting menu offered numerous courses, but unfortunately, none of them stood out. Given the wide variety of dining options in Barcelona, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
I had the most amazing meal here. There were 12 courses and every single course exceeded my expectations. There were some unique combinations that I have never experienced before, like smoked eggplant and toasted white chocolate, or strawberry and caviar, but they worked surprisingly well together. They only have one seating for lunch and one for dinner. They time all the dishes for all the tables together. The menu is all seafood and vegetables. I don't think they allow substitutions, but I enjoyed everything that I never even bothered to tell them if I had any food aversions. This may be my favorite restaurant in Barcelona, or maybe ever.

Yelp
Excelente atención y una verdadera experiencia gastronómica con cada creación del Chef Iker Irauzkin. La combinación de sabores y texturas en cada platillo es única y el maridaje muy acorde. Hay que volver!! Excellent experience in each offer. Combination of flavors and textures with perfect pairing. Five stars, we'll be back

Elegant restaurant and well spaced tables. Service was good, food was excellent, full of flavour and well presented. Great experience for a great price.

Yelp
4.5 stars! My party of four was lucky to book a couple of days before coming here. We came here for lunch back in May 2018 and fell in love. You are warmly greeted by one of the server. Then seated, and she will ask if you want their wine tasting combo or any preferred drinks. We unfortunately don't really drink, so we opted for water (Note: like everywhere else in Barcelona, water is bottled. So you have to pay for each bottle that you drink) Chef and his su chefs cooks in a semi-open kitchen so you can see the magic happening. Food was served in little small bite size pieces. I believed we were served 12-13 dishes including dessert. I'm from America, and we like our food pretty salty over here was well, but there's something about Barcelona's food that's even saltier. Hence, the -.5 star if I could. The salt quality here tastes amazing, but it was way too salty for my taste buds. Each time I saw a salt crystal, I would remove it instantly. Nevertheless, it was an exceptional tasting experience. Will most definitely come back again when I get the chance!

Yelp
My wife and I went into Uma with high expectations based on reviews around the web, and not only were our expectations met, they were exceeded in every way! The experience was absolutely amazing, from the moment we walked in, to the moment we walked out. The menu is a set 12 course tasting menu, with one booking at dinner and one at lunch, so be prepared to book well in advance. We were greeted right away as we walked in, and escorted to our table. Each table is well situated from the others to give you a sense of some privacy making conversations easy. As soon as all of the guests for the night were checked in, the course started coming out. Each course was well explained, and well timed. The corresponding wine pairing was probably the best we have had at any restaurant, and was well worth the additional cost. Each course was something new, delicious and exciting - there was not a course we felt let down on, or fell flat. From one course to the next, each built on the previous, and then culminated in some wonderful desserts. A couple of our favorites were the scallops, lobster and suckling pig dishes, but each dish gave us something new, exciting and memorable. The decor is simple, comfortably elegant, spacious, warm and inviting. The service was outstanding - attentive, fun, exceeding polite and well versed in the nights menu. Uma is a restaurant you go out of your way for, and is a must stop while in Barcelona. It also may be the one of the best values we have ever seen for this high of quality, from the food to the service.

Yelp
Just returned from Uma having had the best lunch in my life. Uma is a true gem. It beats almost all the Michelin starred restaurants (including Michelin 3s) in NYC/SF. Chef Iker is humble and a culinary genius, Anna was very warm making my lunch experience truly exceptional. Pre-courses: -Chip with little fish and caviar paired with a citrus drink -Chopped oysters on a piece of crispy vegetable toast Main courses: -Yam chip with shell fish and jello -Stone fish with green apple broth topped with cream flowers (my fav of all dishes; best stone fish I've ever had with so much flavor and the green apple broth just goes so well with the fish) -Cotton candy with chicken floss (you wouldn't think this is good, but it is!), paired with egg yolk over-easy in mushroom sauce topped with black truffle -Asian dumpling in Thai lemongrass broth, topped with fresh lemongrass -Eel with seasonal snow pea in squid ink broth (Anna told me it's a special type of snow pea that's only available certain times of the year). The snow peas are so sweet and juicy and eel very tender -Suckling pig. Outside is crisp while inside is tender. Very flavorful and big portion Desserts: -Berries in gelatin and cream topped with rose petals. Such wonderful flavor and the rose petals intensify the aroma of the berries -Chocolate bomb topped with coffee ice cream and nitrogen-frozen milk chocolate bits (taste like those milk chocolate balls) -Frozen cherry lollipop in lady-shape (somewhat provocative but interesting) Oh did I mention I had the best white wine IN MY LIFE here for a very reasonable price, and finished my meal off with a orange liquor that's made over the course of eight years? Just sensational.

Yelp
Unbelievable! I didn't know food could get to this level of excellence. My husband and I are huge foodies and this experience was so personal and unexpected. My expectations were exceeded and my husband was mind-blown.

Yelp
Why doesn't UMA have a #Michelin star - or two - yet?!? My husband and I travel extensively throughout Europe, Asia, the US and South America and have eaten at plenty of 2 (and a few 3) star Michelin's that didn't top the food and experience at UMA. Uber-talented chef who is very creative but keeps the food delicious (unlike some places that have gone so high-concept they've left the palate behind!) Very interesting and quirky wine pairing. Fantastic service and explanation. There are only a handful of tables and everyone receives the surprise tasting menu at the same time, allowing them to be creative and responsive to what the market brings each day. Vegetarian options if noted in advance. A few signature dishes which were fantastic and they say are usually repeated. The chef came by the table twice and you can see him work his magic from any spot in the room. Great spacing between tables which the sommelier (and chef's wife) said was standard even before Covid. This is the dream restaurant experience created by two brilliantly talented people who are doing everything right to deliver a unique experience with fantastic food and wine! Tasting is 110 euros. It easily could have been 2-3 x that! Probably the BEST value high-end experience I've had anywhere in the world! This is a DONT MISS!

Yelp
For our last night in Barcelona, the hubs got us a reservation at Uma. He was told that we would have to share a larger table with other parties of two. I don't know how he did it, but he talked them into pulling a small one apart from the others to create a little two-top just for us. The main kitchen is off to the back, but there's a smaller, open kitchen on the floor where you can see the chef putting the finishing touches on the dishes before they are served. Each dish they brought out was on point in flavor, creativity, and presentation. The hubs and I still thinking fondly back to the white asparagus served with hazelnut sauce... I haven't looked at asparagus the same way since. I could describe the interior, the service, each dish... but I think it'd be best to tell you that if you can get a table for meal, DO IT.

Yelp
First the positives. Fantastic night out. The food and wine pairing was outstanding Presentation was amazing It is expensive ... But so worth it. I've eaten at my fair share of 'trendy' noveau cuisine establishments that have celebrity endorsements but this is the first one that has prompted me to write a review. Bravo. Of course because of the 'trendy' nature of the place be prepared for the ubiquitous millennial selfie takers who seem incapable of simply enjoying a meal without taking multiple pictures and tweeting/texting their BFFs. Now for the single negative. Please, please please remove the Rhino head from the wall. Real or fake (please don't say it's real) it is innapropriate when so many rhinos are being slaughtered to feed the insatiable appetite of folks in China. Apart from that one criticism. Absolutely brilliant.

Yelp
A truly exquisite meal in a warm elegant restaurant. The chef and his wife both provide excellence in service and creative foods. No menu. The degustation menu changes ever few days. Outstanding!

Yelp
There's a huge number of playful and delicious dishes that clearly reflect the chef's intention of hosting a fun place for diners to enjoy themselves. The foie gras cotton candy atop a secretly-hollowed stone filled with mushrooms in hot broth is an especially creative interpretation of clouds above earth. The space is beautiful and the open kitchen allows diners to see the chef make everything, including the liquid nitrogen granita that fills the area with smoke. Thanks Chef for the great meal and for being so nice/engaging with the diners too! There are only 12 seats but it's well worth it to try and snag a spot!

Yelp
It's true, best lunch you've ever had. Gorgeous plating, beautiful decor, amazing service. I sound like a fan girl but it really was that good.

Yelp
I had one of the best dinners of my life at Uma and I have to say they are high class all the way, even more so that some Michelin star restaurants. Not to miss if you are in Barcelona. No need to write more, I will let the photos I took do the talking.

Yelp
Better late then ever on the best meal I had during my Europe trip. I wanted to wait till after my stay in Italy and France before writing this review. Like many reviewer I 100% appreciate the creativity each dish has to offer. The chef put a lot of thought into the presentation, precession of each dish, design of the venue and of course the flavor of each course. With only 12 guest sitting in 5 tables, the chef was able to really create an intimate and relax setting for us to enjoy the meal. He was able to stop by each table to chat and really put on a great show preparing each course (there were 12) with his sue chef in the open kitchen. Each dish was beautifully plated and presented on the table like works of art. Eating at Uma is truly an experience that everyone should try. I am so glad my boyfriend and I were able to make the reservation months before our trip to Barcelona. The next time we return to the city Uma will definitely be on the top of our places to visit.

Yelp
Been to many so called Michelin Star restaurants and they did not come close to the experience we had at Uma. The creativity of Iker is just mind boggling. Alinea quality for 1/3 the price. A chef that comes up to your table and talks to you... what an experience!
google avatar

Jeremy R.

Yelp
Chef Iker brings his playfulness and love of fine food to every dish that comes to the table. The evening starts with ringing the bell in a square alcove next to a massive wood door. You are then ushered into an anteroom as the door behind you closes. The hostess/waitress/sommelier then slides open a counterweighted warehouse door to reveal the intimate dining room with an open kitchen at the far end occupied by the chef, hard at work. We ordered one wine pairing to share between three of us which was nicely matched to the varied courses that graced our table. Favorites included cockles, rockfish, anchovy and crispy pork and the only one that didn't work for us was the smoked eel with apple soup. The eel was fine but the soup was a little too Jolly Rancher for our tastes. Food is beautifully prepared, lovingly explained and happily devoured. The evening ends with the chef making the rounds of the dining room and talking with all the patrons. A very personal and fun experience just make sure you have a reservation or your going hungry.

Yelp
Agreed with everyone, we had an amazing lunch here. I wouldn't usually do a tasting menu for lunch but it was the only time slot I could find. Was the best meal we had our whole time in Spain, unbelievable meal!
