Umberto a Mare

A charming, well-appointed boutique hotel far enough from the hubbub of central Forio to feel serene, yet close enough to access all needed shops and services. The rooms are a good size, there's a lovely terrace on which to have breakfast and another to watch the sunset, and some sunbeds on the lower level. ||The staff is lovely and attentive, and breakfast is very good, though it feels at time a bit rationed (e.g., small portions of cereal). ||My only quibble was that the mattress in my room was extremely uncomfortable, and not fit for a mid-range hotel. After two bad nights, I let the manager know and they added a mattress topper to it, which helped. But I feel that for the price, the mattress should have been comfortable from the start. In fact, the mattresses looked more like a hand-stitched affair you'd find in your grandmother's attic than something fit for a hotel. ||With the certainty of improved mattresses, I would without a doubt become a regular guest -- Ischia is wonderful, and Umberto a Mare a great base to discover it. You can't help but feel relaxed staying there.

😊: Beautiful venue. Above-average breakfast. Very nice staff. The hotel is small and cosy. Direct access to the sea - no need for a pool. Large terrace with many sunloungers.. 😢: We needed to defrost the refrigerator as it was heavily iced over. Dinner at restaurant: not cheap and less sensational than expected..

😊: The location is stunning, with truly spectacular views. Dining at the fantastic restaurant is really something I recommend. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the place is perfectly located to access everything Forio has to offer. Simply great!. 😢: Could have told more about breakfast options(breakfast was good) and the bed was a bit hard..

😊: Old charm and tranquillity of the place, proximity to the sea, terrace for breakfast, accommodating staff, sunlounge area with access to the sea.. 😢: The bathroom could be updated. Also, I would prefer to have a buffet breakfast with a choice of yoghurts, cheeses, cereals, fruit, etc.

Disappointing experience overall. The service was slow, inattentive, and unprofessional, which set the tone for the evening. The food itself wasn’t terrible, but it definitely didn’t stand out or justify the prices - it was just average at best. If you’re looking for a fine dining experience, I’d recommend taking your money somewhere else.

Umberto a Mare boasts stunning views, but that’s where the positives end. The staff was incompetent, when I asked how the caviar was served, the waitress casually said “on a piece of bread,” dismissing my clarification about blinis. The food was bland and nearly inedible, a real disappointment. The only saving grace was the lovely bread paired with fantastic olive oils. Sadly, not enough to redeem the experience. Avoid unless you’re just there for the scenery.
