The Best Nonalcoholic Cocktails in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Umbra, the house restaurant at the boutique Canopy Hotel, serves three vibrant, fruit forward “faux-tails.” The “You’re A Peach” is a lemonade-peach iced tea with mint and muddled strawberries — for something even more tart, try the Pineapple Express, a tasty punch of ginger beer, lime, and pineapple juice." - Ryan Meaney

I came to see the Dueling Pianos at the Canopy by Hilton, and it was such a fun night! The band was fantastic—great energy and amazing talent. You could tell everyone in the room was having a great time. The Umbra restaurant, which is connected to the hotel, was just as impressive. The manager was incredibly attentive—she stopped by our table several times to check on us and even helped with our orders. The food was delicious, and the service made it even better. I absolutely loved the ambience—classy, relaxing, and perfect for a night out. Between the music, the food, the drinks, and the company of good friends, it turned out to be a memorable evening. I’d definitely go back!

I took my mom and family here for her birthday dinner, and we had the pleasure of being served by Ally. She went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. To put it in perspective, we were a group of 16 with a few people unfortunately arriving late, but Ally handled it all with patience and grace. She explained menu items clearly, accommodated dietary needs, and consistently checked in to make sure we were taken care of. She even offered to take photos of us, which was such a thoughtful touch. Her exceptional service truly made my mom’s birthday special. I really hope she gets a raise because she deserves it! The food was okay, but Ally’s service truly elevated our experience. At one point, I went to the bar to ask if one of the bartenders could get Ally for us. One bartender ignored me completely. I understand the bar was busy and that she wasn’t our server, but another bartender came over and kindly tried to help. He explained he didn’t speak English and asked the other bartender to assist me. Despite not serving anyone at the time, she continued to ignore me. I ended up waiting by the bar until Ally returned and helped us right away.

I thought that they just drop the ball on food. It looks amazing but it is just not. The drinks and service are way above expectations but the food is why the restaurant is empty on a Friday night at 7 pm. They have music late r on. Some people show up for that. I really wanted to like this place but...I will be back for a cocktail.....

I visited Umbra during Restaurant Week lunch ($25 for a 3-course prix fixe) and had a good overall experience, especially since I was catching up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. The vibe was relaxed and it was nice having a reservation during the lunch rush. For my appetizer, I had the black garlic Caesar, and it was actually delicious — super flavorful and far better than the usual bland Caesar salad I expected. I really enjoyed it. For the entrée, I ordered the Fettuccine Puttanesca. It was decent, but nothing surprising — the sauce tasted like a standard tomato-based pasta, and it felt overly oily by the end. There was a visible layer of oil sitting at the bottom of the dish, which made it feel heavier than it needed to be. My friend had the crab melt, which she seemed to enjoy more than I did with mine. Dessert was the apple galette with ice cream. The ice cream itself was good, but the galette crust was tough and dry. I was hoping it would be warm and flaky, but it felt like it had been pre-made and served cold, which took away from the experience. Umbra is connected to the Canopy by Hilton hotel, which is a beautiful space. While the food wasn’t outstanding, it was good enough — and honestly, for a hotel-attached restaurant, that’s about what I expected. If I were visiting Minnesota, I might consider staying at Canopy just because you have Umbra and Chloe by Vincent right there — two solid options on-site. Overall: great service, nice space, and a few highlights, but the food didn’t totally wow me. Still worth checking out for Restaurant Week or a convenient hotel lunch spot.

We arrived at 9:10 and the place was maybe a third full. We wanted to see the fireworks at 10, so we wanted it to be fast. It took 10 minutes to get waters, at which point we ordered two martinis and an artichoke dip. Thinking 40 minutes would be enough time, but it took 15 minutes to get one drink and another 5 minutes for the second drink. The artichoke dip, which cost $28, took another 20 minutes. We quickly ate and barely saw the end of the firework show. Again, the place was not busy. The service was poor and the prices were too high!

Google
The service was horrible and food was extremely overpriced. It took 10 minutes to even get a glass of water. We ordered a cocktail and mine took another 10, my husband's came 5 minutes after that-they were the same drink. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, which while reasonably tasty was $30 and took 30 minutes to get to the table. The portion size was super small as well.

We settled on Umbra after finding no same day dinner reservations available that fit our schedule in the north loop/downtown area. I was looking forward to my visit as I have yet to cross Umbra off my list. Our waiter seemed busy but we didn’t have to wait too long and the service was truly wonderful! Starting with drinks, we ordered the Livin’ on a Pear and Snowbank Sally. Both were delicious, the pear one especially. It tasted almost like candy but not overly sweet. For our main dish we shared the sea bass and the gnocchi. The sea bass was TO DIE FOR. Literally melt in your mouth, falling apart, and with a bit of a crisp outer layer. The flavor was so good. We enjoyed the gnocchi too but the sea bass stole the show. We didn’t have time for dessert but I would return in a heartbeat to try it out. The dessert menu looked mouthwatering! To top it all off, there was live music and it was just a really fun yet cozy vibe. Great atmosphere and would love to return!

As a frequent guest at this restaurant, mostly for cocktails given the food is lacking...The menu has been revised several times in the last few years and had always left a lot to be desired. The bartenders, waiters, service, cocktails are phenomenal. The food menu has never been cohesive or even accommodating to customer requests (where is my salad at any time of the day?).

Yelp
Wow! We went to the Vikings -Colts Game last night and stopped her for dinner. What a Vibe and the food was great! The decor and ambiance - SPOT ON! Definitely stop in and experience it for yourself.

Yelp
I've been here once before, the first time was for a Christmas event and when I went I guess they ended it a little earlier than what was posted online. So I didnt actually get the experience I was looking for. This time I went for the valentines day event that was supposed to be going after vday. They had a special menu, but they were no longer offering the food from it but still offering the drinks. I ordered a drink I saw online and when it came out, it looked nothing like the drink I saw. I asked the waitress was this the drink I ordered and she said yes but some of the stuff is missing so they did it a little different. So I mentioned it didn't look like it at all. Instead of her apologizing and offering maybe i get something else, or even letting me know beforehand about the situation, she then proceeded to joke about how she would go back and tell the kitchen someone was crying about the drink. Because this was the second time I've gone there for a specific event, it definitely wasn't a good experience. I think they do a lot of cool events, but if I choose to go there for that specific thing and dont get it, ruins the whole experience. I did get food and it was pretty good still, but the experience with the event and staff really left a bad taste.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about my experience here. The food was great and the drinks were good, but our server seemed distracted and not very attentive. Now, it was a fairly busy Friday night, so would go back for a second try. However, we went specifically for the specialty Halloween cocktails. There were 5 advertised, but our waiter told us only 2 of them were currently available. Disappointing since that was our main reason for going. The dining area is open and welcoming. The furniture is very comfortable and makes you want to stay and enjoy the evening. Unfortunately, the livr music (while good) was too loud to allow for much conversation.

Yelp
Unfortunately did not have a good experience here Went specifically for the spooky Halloween cocktails that were advertised the whole month of October !! After arriving , we were not greeted by a server for over 15 mins , no water etc and then when we stated that we were there for the Halloween specials the server told us they only had 2 out of the 5 cocktails available !! This was not mentioned or updated on their social media so very disappointing Also the food service was very very slow and overpriced and the live music was way too loud for the atmosphere of this restaurant Management did reach out to me to apologize and that they were unaware that not all the drinks weren't available but I was not happy There is definitely some disconnect between management and the staff and communication issues

Yelp
I had the BEST time with my friends at Umbra Pink Parlor's Valentine's Day Pop-Up! The space is a total Valentine's dream-pink florals, cozy velvet seating, and the cutest photo-worthy details.I tried the gnocchi it was perfectly soft and flavorful which paired well with the Caesar salad, which was fresh and crisp. I wanted to add soup because I've heard they have the best but they weee all out so it has to be true ! I couldn't resist sampling all the Valentine's-themed drinks, and they were as delicious as they were pretty. But the real standout? Their dirty martini-hands down the best I've ever had. The service was amazing-friendly, attentive, and super helpful with recommendations .If you're looking for festive vibes, great food, and even better drinks, this pop-up is a must!

Yelp
I went to visit my friends at the Canopy hotel, they attended a watch event for Love is blind. They were hungry and didn't want to leave the building since it was so cold outside. This restaurant was also set up for the pink parlor pop up event for the month. We walked up to the host station and was seated at the corner round table. Service was great, our server gave us suggestions on their menu. I ordered the soup of the day which is Italian sausage. We also ordered the jumbo wings, crab cake - delicious by the way, and crispy chicken sandwich. The wings tasted kind of sweet, might have been the marinade and then spicy dry rub. I saw the menu on the table for the pop up, I would have to come back to try the food on their menu.

Yelp
Love this place! I come here when I am in town and staying at the hotel it is connected to. The staff are amazing, friendly and welcoming and the food is really great! I have tried a few things off the menu but as a creature of habit, I always get the house flatbread, french fries in duck fat or the caesar salad with chicken. That salad is always a hit and delicious. What ever they do to the chicken makes it taste amazing! Mixed with that creamy caesar dressing and crunchy croutons, it makes for a great meal. The flatbread is also always a great treat! I did try the chicken wings, they are amazing as well! slightly spicy and sweet. You will have a great time here, but heads up, they close at 11PM due to location in the hotel. (yes, drunk people get loud. :)) so get there early to enjoy the food and service!

Yelp
Decorated beautifully for Valentine's Day! Tasty cocktails and mocktails and a great selection of lite appetizers.

Yelp
Umbra is located in Canopy Hotel right near US bank stadium. It's the perfect location to have dinner when staying at the hotel or for a night out. The food that we had was very good, but service was extremely slow. We waited over 20 minutes to have a server come to our table and bring water and ask about drinks. Things that were asked for were forgotten throughout the night. The server was friendly enough l, but possibly had too many tables to handle.

Yelp
We didn't try the food but enjoyed a few drinks and live music with friends last night. The place was packed and we were lucky to find seats together for 5 of us as a family was just leaving! Be service was fairly quick but they could have used a 3rd bar tender. The Dirty Martinis were very good...but don't try their specialty drink Queen Taste! It was awful! Yuck! My daughter and I both thought we'd try something new and we both drank some and ordered a Dirty Martini! Nice venue and ambiance. Great location next to US Bank Stadium.

Safa A.

Yelp
Food was bad. We ordered lamb skewer, wagyu sandwich with no bacon and well done, and chicken sandwich with a side of fruits. We got none of the above. Service was slow. We received our starter at the same time as our mains. We and The server did not understand each other, there was a language barrier. Ambience is really nice. Good for pictures. Not for your stomach. All in all, we did not have a good experience.

Yelp
Love the ambiance and service. Lots of great choices of classic dishes, and some unique stuff like pickled quail eggs, which was really delicious. I had high expectation for dust breast, but I wasn't impressed as it was too hard, and not fully flavored. Otherwise I would give a five star.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Took over 1 hr to get our food, and the food was super disappointing. Bread was stale and untoasted. Avocado was brown and unripe. Salad was wilted. Truly a bad meal.

Yelp
We were in the Minneapolis area for a work event and decided to stop by this restaurant for lunch. It was within walking distance and located in the Hilton Canopy's hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful and we loved the interior of the building. We were seated right away and our waitress was great! Super accommodating, nice, and attentive. There were 5 of us and she did a wonderful job making sure we had everything we needed! The dining experience felt very modern and chill. We got the following (keep in mind that some items might be rotating): Lobster toast: 9.5/10 - it was fresh, delightful, and the arugula salad on top of it with red sweety drop peppers and jalapeños was the chef's kiss. There were massive, lobster claw meat on the toast and we all shared it between the 5 of us. It was plenty to go around! Definitely add some lemon juice on the toast as it adds that pop of extra flavor and freshness. It came with fries and the fries are probably some of the best fries I've ever eaten. Perfectly crisp, nice coating, and seasoned well! Do yourself a favor and please get the fries!!! I honestly ate like two small baskets of them! Fried Minnesota bluegill: 5/10 - I really really wanted to like this, but it had a fishy aftertaste that threw me off. The batter they fried the fish in, was more on the crumbly side and the batter was falling off the fish when we were eating it. The remoulade sauce was really good though, creamy, hint of spicy, and a little tart. I never had bluegill before and I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I don't like fish that has a fishy aftertaste and even though it was battered and fried, it was still fishy. Again, I don't know if this is how bluegill is supposed to taste but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Wagyu Umbra burger: 8/10 - this burger was massive and me and my coworker spilt it. It was more than enough between the two of us. The burger was cooked perfectly! It was medium rare and super super juicy! As I was eating the burger, I could see all the juices coming down. That is a sign of a really good, high quality burger!!! It came with a thick slab of bacon, cheese, arugula, and bbq sauce with a side of the fries. We both enjoyed this burger very much and would get it again! My other coworker had the blackened shrimp and grits and she loved it and another one had the chicken sandwich. There were no complaints and they finished all of their food. I couldn't rate on those because I didn't taste them, but both dishes looked wonderful and tasty! Overall, it's a solid place for some great food. It is a little on the pricier side so keep that in mind. But the portion sizes were great! I would come back to try more things on the menu. If you're in the area, definitely check Umbra out!

Yelp
It was a nice restaurant inside the canopy hotel where we stayed during our Minneapolis visit. I loved the design of the hotel, therefore the restaurant. We tried their breakfast menu only. The server was nice. The portions of the meal were quite big. I got a house waffle. It was very simple. They just made 1 regular size of waffle and cut some fresh strawberries on top of it. Syrup and butter were on the side. My partner got the steak&eggs. It looked good. He didn't complain, so I'm assuming it was good, lol. I tried the potato only. It was yummy and crispy. Next time, if I stay at the same hotel again, I may consider trying other items on the menu again. Otherwise, I don't think I would make a trip for it.

Yelp
Wanted to have a nice meal our last night in MN. This was one of the best meals I have ever had. I ordered the steak and eggs - the steak was cooked perfectly and the "eggs" were in sauce form and elevated to steak to a different level. Our server Angi was great checked on us just enough but not intrusive. If you are looking for a delicious meal either a cool vibe I definitely recommend Umbra.

Yelp
Recently visited Umbra, the space and ambiance was beautiful but the food was very overpriced and underwhelming. The service was decent, nothing to rave about. They were out of several liquors and a few menu items. The Red Pepper Bruschetta, Halibut and Scallops we're the favorites of the evening. The Steak Frites was a complete flop, it was charred and tough literally had to saw through it with the provided knife - for $60 this was not worth it. We also tried the Walleye Cakes and Pesto Bucatini which were decent. Overall kind of a lame experience, wouldn't go out of my way to return.

Yelp
Good food (slightly overpriced, though) and unique entrees, nice service, cool ambiance/setting right downtown. The waiter was kind to give us a chocolate lava cake and a whiskey latte on the house since I was celebrating my graduation. Now for the food: Appetizers: Beef tartar 4.5/5 great flavor, Oysters 5:5 amazing with some roe on top, Charcuterie board 4/5 nothing crazy but yummy Entrees: Elk sirloin 3.5/5 not as medium rare as desired but may just be the nature of elk anyway. Didn't get the Gorgonzola butter which made the loin more pepper-y. Lobster 5/5 with delicious , rich truffle fries. Duck 4.5/5 cooked perfectly (crispy outside, fairly rare inside) with delicious sauce and creamy-scalloped potatoes. Lamb Cutlets 4.5/5 Cooked ~perfectly~ but thought the fries cheapened the dish a little Dessert: Cheese cake 4.5/5, Pavlova 5/5

Yelp
Loveee it. Small but great menu! Didn't really try the dinner menu but everything is so good.. the lobster was sooo fresh I was shocked when I ate my elotes in my room. Annnd they give u a good amount of lobster. The oysters... I had 4 plates to myself in one sitting. Yeah do it! I thought it was strange there was no cocktail sauce but whatever they r doing is still very good. Put a little Sriracha on it. I extended my stay here in MN, unfortunately this hotel was sold out however I'm staying at a near by hotel and I plan on devouring some more oysters. I don't drink but their cocktail mixes are gooood! I loved the livin' in a pear. Such a good mix but an even better mix is the pink spice without the spice! I tried it with sparkling soda and it just added more to it!!! That was all I was drinking after I got introduced. Waffle is sweet enough. I do wish it was more buttermilk style but still.. if u let the syrup soak in the waffle (if u don't finish it) it's such a great dessert later. Before I left this afternoon ofc I had some more oyster but I also wanted to try the lobster bahn mi. It is good, however I can't tell u if it was great or not bc I felt sick and really couldn't eat it. I just know my stomach didn't throw a fit and that's a really good sign. I had Gabby serve me once for 5 mins my first night, but if u see this ily girl! She was simply sweet. Checked on me in a timely manner n accommodated my need! And I didn't catch the other lady's name but the older one with the long black hair and pretty glasses, ily u too! Sweet bubbly personality. Listens to but also guides. Such a great help. Let me not forget to mention how warm and welcoming the environment is. I love the lighting in there. Not bright during the day or harsh lighting at night. Day time has great natural light coming in from everywhere. The place is clean and cute. I'm already reminiscing. - I also suggest you guys stay at this hotel canopy by Hilton. I'll for sure be back again!

Yelp
Umbra is located inside hotel Canopy and was definitely an expected highlight of my trip. I decided to stop by on the first day of my stay simply because I wanted a quick dinner at the bar, but I soon discovered how great the food was. The flatbread, especially the cheese was so good that I decided to order 4 different kinds for the meal and absolutely disregarded my diet. The next day I had to stop by and order one of the flatbread again because I just kept thinking about it at night... The service was fantastic. The bartenders were very friendly and refilled my soft drink multiple times without charging me extra. I later discovered there is live music between 6pm and 10pm which further enhances the ambiance of the restaurant. Overall, I had a wonderful time.

Yelp
We have been here quite a few times and previously , the food was mediocre. However, as of recently, the menu changed (and maybe the chef?) and the food is amazing! The halibut with couscous is a favorite. The charcuterie board is huge and delicious. The pasta is very flavorful. They have great drinks including one of our top espresso martinis in the cities. There is dining room seating but also a great lounge area. Some nights have live music which is really fun, usually jazz.

Yelp
Ate at the bar. Great service. So many options of delicious food and drink. Started with a gin and cucumber cocktail and some oysters on the half shell. Superb. Then had a legit Caesar with anchovy. Crisp, cold, wonderful. Ended with their version of a Manhattan. Wonderful, beautiful meal.

Yelp
I recently attended a graduation dinner at Umbra, located in the Canopy Hotel. Our group of 20 was well taken care of by an amazing waitress who managed the chaos with grace and efficiency. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed and offers a pleasant dining atmosphere. While I found the food to be slightly overpriced, it was generally enjoyable. Some of the dishes our group particularly enjoyed included the mussels, lamb, steak, and quail eggs.

Yelp
Stayed at the Canopy Hilton hotel over a weekend and decided to check out Umbra for a hangover lunch at the bar. After reading the menu from top to bottom then bottom to top, decided that my best life choice was the fried chicken sandwich. Then my second best life choice was to sub out the fries for a classic caesar salad. The fried chicken sandwich was IG worthy, stacked perfectly with arugula, tomatoes, pickles, gruyere and white bbq sauce. white bbq sauce...strange sounding, but strangely good. After a good press from the top, I enjoyed every single bite. The side caesar portion was also huge, not sure if they meant to give me this much, but to me it would have been a full size salad. Good caesar, however nothing to go home to tell mom about. Reason for 4 star rather than 5 is that the bartender was a bit nonchalant with his service. Just seems like after running my food, he would give me some silverware and dinner napkin. However, I had to ask for it and it seem like I was giving him some trouble for asking for it. Anyway, perhaps it's me and as I mentioned I was operating at like 65%. Also, I realized this place is popping during happy hour with live band playing. I would check this place out again during happy hour.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Visited during the Viking/Packer weekend. Ambiance was lively, service was prompt, and food was good! What else could you possibly ask for.

Kierstin Y.

Yelp
The restaurant had a cute aesthetic and allowed guests a view of the kitchen. However, there was an overpowering foul scent that lingered throughout the evening. The food itself was good, but slightly overpriced for the quantity.

Yelp
Such fabulous staff! The staff really put this place over the top. It's located in the Canopy by Hilton. And it's open all day! (Which feels like a rarity these days.) They have multiple menus. The nibbles and bites menu is available all day. Then they have separate menus for lunch and dinner. There's also lots of cocktail, wine, and beer options. The ambiance and vibe are quite nice. Chill and modern, with just a touch of rustic. It's on the small side. There's bar seating and then a few tables. It can get pretty hopping at night. Seems to appeal to both hotel patrons and locals. The spicy mussels were insane good. Perfectly cooked and such a fabulously delicious sauce/broth. I also had the burger, Caesar salad, and fries. All were delicious. The burger was quite big and juicy. Pro-tip: Get a side of the peppercorn ranch to dip the fries in. And you can get your meal to-go and take it up to your room. All in all, a lovely dining experience! (And I'm still craving more of those mussels.)

Sarah L.

Yelp
We got a reservation here for the "Christmas pop up" event. There was like 10 decorations. We got sat in the corner at a table that only had one chair and the hostess had to drag a chair from across the room for my guest to sit in. We had to ask for the holiday drink menu which seemed like an afterthought (like the decor) which only had like 5 options. I think they have some live music with better decorations on the other side of the restaurant but since there's the chance you might get seated on the side with no decorations like us, you may never see or hear it. Our appetizers were pretty yummy and the service was decent but our Christmas experience was a let down! Save your time and book at a different holiday bar!

Yelp
Umbra did not live up to its billing, I'm sorry to say. I was sorry to see many of the items on Yelp reviews (like the very unique pork cheeks) were not available. "New menu," explained the bartender, who could not take a dinner order since I was waiting for a table. No big deal. I suppose I could settle for the ordinary hamburger or fried chicken sandwich. But not wanting to order the ordinary at a highly touted and very trendy restaurant, I ordered an overpriced ($60) steak frites and a glass of Paso Robles cabernet ($14). The steak was USDA choice, not prime, and a little too chewy to live up to its Wagyu billing - at a price similar to what steakhouses charge for prime! The bearnaise sauce was excellent, though. Both were surrounded by French fries which were either overcooked or cooked on cold oil-- whatever it is that make them clear and greasy rather than have a creamy inside and a crisp outside. Still, dipping greasy fries in bearnaise is a most decadent pleasure! Table side service was excellent and ambience, exceptional.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty overpriced and bland food. I would stick to cocktails when visiting this bar! I ordered the burger and it was very dry, didn't come with any sauce on the side or in the burger just cheese and Burgers and bacon. You'd think they'd come up with a signature sauce if some sort to make it unique or add extra love. Personally won't be returning for food here but will come back for cocktails - espresso martinis are great! Food prices are pretty high for the choices and what you're getting. Staff was super super friendly and on top of it - working their Butts off so kudos!

Yelp
Ordered the pizza since I overheard people raving about it and I was not disappointed! Cauliflower crust was crispy nice flavor from the sausage. I ordered the same thing a couple of days later!

Will K.

Yelp
Food and drink were good, but the service was deplorable. My wife and I were unattended for ONE HOUR by staff. Not even water was given to us. I will not be returning, ever.

Yelp
Just fine for a hotel bar. They sometimes have service in the lobby area with couches, but it really depends on the staffing availability. Limited beer and wine selection, but they have a full bar and seems like cocktails are the way to go here. Have been several times and it's just a nice lobby bar to enjoy for happy hour or a pre-dinner drink. Space is really pretty in the historic building. If you want a drink and comfy seat on a hot summer day, this is a good spot to swing by.

Yelp
Came here before the Rammstein concert the other day. We thought we'd be the only people headed to that concert after our meal, but we were wrong! This created lots of cross-tables conversation which was thoroughly enjoyable. Umbra itself was amazing though. The food was plentiful and the drinks were STRONG! We got the charcuterie board and a couple of house cocktails. The charcuterie board was full of so many things.. meats, cheeses, apricots, yogurt covered raisins, peppers, tomatoes.. and a few other things, all of which was super yummy! The service was beyond, the atmosphere a total vibe. Capping the experience off with one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had.. classic! Definitely can't wait to go back!

Yelp
unwelcoming atmosphere! My family of 4 decided to check out this restaurant after church today and left within a couple of minutes because we felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome. when we entered, a waiter looked over at us , turned his back , and did not acknowledge us. He kept talking to his co worker (a bartender). we stood waiting for a minute while he casually talked to the bartender. I then raised my hands and said, hello, we are here to eat. can you please seat us? He glanced over and said nothing so the bartender offered us a menu. At this point, my husband, the kids, and I decided to leave and have our weekly Sunday brunch elsewhere, perhaps somewhere where we'd be greeted and welcomed. Yelp
I had the absolutely best time on my recent visit to Umbra which is actually located inside the canopy in Minneapolis. I got to meet Chef Kwvin who was super nice & Umbra had just released their new summer menu. I was pleased to see so many MN collaborations with their food/drink menu. They use Fairbault Cheese Caves, revier cattle, ironshoe farms, and comfrey farm pork. These are all MN based which I love! It was wonderful evening with our fantastic server Peter! He was so kind & helpful with my million questions. What we had : Alligator - Tempura Alligator season w/ Sea Dof Rub and topped with raspberry & habanero. This was only my 2nd time having alligator. The first being at the fair & this was quite a different experience. The texture & flavors were really fantastic. I would definitely get this dish again. Arancini- These were lamb meat balls layed over yogurt & season w/ ras el hanout & topped with mint jello. The flavor journey was wonderful. This was one of my favorite items of the evening. Pork Cheek - Made w/ apple, fava, demi -glace, & leek. This was super tender & the pork cheek was sauced with a nice demi -glace. Rock Hen - The Chicken was cooked perfect & the outside was nice and crisp. The white sauce had shitake, spinach, and pepper drops. The sauce was absolutely to die for! What a beautiful and flavorful dish! New York Strip - This was a 16oz strip topped with bacon jam and blue cheese & it came with bone marrow. So delicious. This was smy first bone marrow experience! Each entrée comes with a choice of soup, side salad, or Caesar salad. I tried the soup of the day. Desserts: Apple Tatin - This upside down apple tart was made with apples, puff pastry, caramel, cinnnomon, and a side of vanilla bean ice cream. Seasonal Cheese Cake- Raspberry topped with pistachios. Im a cheesecake fan & this was so good! Chocolate Cake- always a simple and tasty pleasure! Made with Chocolate, caramel, and a side of chocolate ice cream. The experience was fantastic from the service, food, drinks, and atmosphere. Every person was so kind & helpful. I can't wait to go back & try breakfast.

Yelp
A M A Z I N G ! Stumbled across this place looking for a restaurant in the city to celebrate my niece's birthday. The waiter was extremely helpful with recommendations and knowledgeable about where the food and ingredients are sourced from. It is tucked into Downtown Minneapolis and provides a nice ambiance. It's pretty spacious, so would be a great spot for a large group. Mussels: 8/10, If you like mussels, this is the dish for you. The base is a tomato sauce cooked in clam broth. Surprisingly, very tasty and not too fishy. Octopus: 7/10, Octopus could be done very well or very terribly. In this case, it was delicious! Not much of an octopus fan, but of course, was a must try. Not rubbery at all and I appreciated the sauce. Scallops: 7/10, The scallops were cooked perfectly! Definitely surprised to have the scallops topped with crisped meat, a little too meaty for me. Ribeye: 10/10, Saved the best for last! Funny story, my niece and I wanted our own individual slice of Ribeye. Thankfully, the Waiter convinced us otherwise because this portion is HUGE! Cooked to your liking, various sauces, and definitely worth its price. My niece and I thoroughly enjoyed this. Overall, experience was a 10/10. We even got a birthday decoration and dessert! Definitely will have to come back with my family.

Yelp
Went here for drinks and appetizers, then breakfast the next morning. The drinks came and were ok. The appetizers, however took 35 minutes for the first one to show up, a flat bread, and another 15 minutes more for the bruschetta. What actually came was another flatbread so I don't know if it was just mistake or if they just don't know what bruschetta is. It wasn't bad, just not what was ordered. Breakfast was a fail. We had four in our party. One ordered an Americana, two ordered the yogurt parfait, and I ordered the steel cut oatmeal. The Americana came out in reasonable time, but the other three orders didn't come for 15 more minutes. Both yogurt parfaits were ordered with wheat toast but came with English muffins. The oatmeal was rolled oats and NOT steel cut. I love steel cut and was very disappointed. We didn't have time to send the orders back. Service was slow. Orders were wrong. Loved the hotel, but won't be back to Umbra.

Yelp
Had some friends in town, so was trying to find a quaint little happy hour place and this popped up. It was my first time checking it out, so had no expectations whatsoever. I was very impressed!! Was immediately greeted upon entering, and since it was right at the start of Happy Hour, not too many people inside. We decided to sit at the bar, the bartender immediately came over with some water and gave us some of the specials for the afternoon. We each ordered a beverage, and also ordered Lobster Nachos, lamb Sliders, and Bruschetta flatbread. Even though the bartender said the Lobster Nachos had some 'heat' to them, didn't know what to expect since most Minnesotans think ketchup is a hot sauce. (Jk) First bite of the nachos with huge chunks of lobster was delicious, it wasn't until the second bite where the first bite came back and hit ya. It did pack a punch, which I wasn't expecting. (I had just come back from Guadalajara where one of their sauces had a 3-chili sauce, which for three days my mouth was still on fire). Of course this one didn't last more than a few minutes, but I was impressed with the great surprise. The lamb sliders were good. Nothing out of the ordinary. Simple, elegant, and delicious. The flatbread was delicious, could've had more, but was full by the time we were done. I would definitely love to come back and try out more of their Happy hour menu!!

Yelp
Got in late to the hotel. We generally don't eat at hotel restaurants as we like to explore. But since it was late we decided to just eat in house. Glad we did! Everything was great. We had drinks, the tips appetizer (which ended up being full pork ribs), the house salad and the elk steak. Everything was delicious! The salad was loaded with yummy and the pomegranate vinaigrette was great. The elk was cooked perfectly and was so good! All in all happy we stayed here !

Yelp
Great ambience, I mean the music alone is reason enough to go to Umbra when they have live jazz. Shoutout to our waiter, who doubled up as the barman for his attentiveness and friendly service. Salad was great, just remember to ask for the raspberry vinaigrette. The lobster risotto was plated beautifully and very tasty. All in all a wonderful experience here

Yelp
My my my!! I was at a corporate relations conference and had the luxury of dining with the associate VP of corporate engagement from my university at Umbra. He was no cheapskate so I ordered well. Unfortunately, I was already full from a night of partying and drinking, however, I needed the chance to network. I ordered the halibut over carrots and risotto. So delicious. Tender and all around flavorful. 2 people ordered the NY strip with what looked like bone marrow and salad. Someone else ordered a salad. The drinks were also very good. I assume because we were spending well they didn't rush us to leave because they were definitely wrapping up. I would most definitely return if ever in Minneapolis.. the down lights, the high ceilings, and ambiance was everything needed for a nice dinner.

Yelp
Exquisitely revered dining experience, anyone? Umbra Minneapolis is for you. The Canopy Hotel has you covered for an exalted experience, whether you're staying in upscale comfort as a guest in their lovely digs or just decide to make a reservation for an amazing meal. Chef Kevin Aho has cultivated an amazing menu from seasonal ingredients, all with a global twist, which goes beyond quite anything else you'll find in the twin cities. Everything is in a class by itself and you owe it to yourself to check out this new summer menu. What we ordered: Alligator ~ tempura | sea dog rub | raspberry | habanero **you won't find many gator dishes in the metro let alone something with so many unique flavors such as this** Pork Cheek ~ apple | fava | demi | leek **as tender as tender gets and accoutrements are the perfect blend of sweet vs savory** Arancini ~ ras el hanout | amb | saffron | mint jello | yogurt **texturally alluring and a lot of bold flavors. Possibly a new fave starter for me--of all time. Yep I said that** Rock Hen ~ spinach fricassee | shitake **outstanding crunch and super juicy throughout** 16oz NY Strip ~ bone marrow | bacon jam | blue fromage **admitted bone marrow freak over here. This is the elevated and unique steak pairing you've been looking for. Bleu and bacon jam pairs wonderfully** Desserts ~ Apple Tatin | Seasonal Cheesecake | Chocolate Cake **don't pass on dessert here because the pastry chef has equally mad skills**

Yelp
Fantastic servers, food, and ambiance. Their bathrooms, bars, hang outs, and seating arrangements are wonderful. Extremely fond of the dim lighting and eased environment. Drinks are made wonderfully!

Yelp
Pull up a chair and indulge yourselves! UMBRA is a crowd FAVORITE! Not only is the decor impeccable - the staff carries themselves with a whole new level of kindness and professionalism that goes beyond my vocabulary - and the live jazz music in the lounge takes the vibe to a whole new level that's out of this universe! If there's ever been a time and a place to treat yourself this is it! Pictured -- Expresso Martini Charcuterie board & Beef Rossini
