Delicious sushi and serious cocktails, it exceeded all expectations. Spicy tuna melts in your mouth and is actually spicy but tolerable.

The main dish was priced at $24.00. Following the main dish, we were served appetizers, which cost us over $20. Despite the high cost, the plates were empty. Additionally, we were charged $10 for water, which tasted no different than what one could purchase at Costco for $1.00

Go now before you can't book a reservation! The food was fabulous and as much as I want to hide this gem, I would be riddled with guilt if I don't tell you! My partner and I were thinking of shopping at the Americana and decided to come by last Sunday based on the reviews. Highlights: Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi was spectacularly beautiful and I appreciated how the fish was the main character, not hiding behind sauce, though the Halibut sashimi drowned in the peruvian sauce lived up to the hype. Not going to lie, the squid ink chips on the blue fin sashimi scared me haha. Wagyu tartar sounded so different than the other appetizers, and the taste was so intriguing! I dont know how to describe it outside of you just have to trust the process and let yourself enjoy the moment. The cheesy truffle bread was my favorite part. :) The blue fin toro is a deeply vibrant, almost maroon shade with a soft, buttery texture. The sushi is topped with a pungent, umami kizami wasabi. The otoro is surprisingly cheap, as I wish everything else was… a girl can dream! The server almost broke my heart when she said they sold out of uni… how are you going to let me be teased by the photos I saw? That being said, the nice sushi chefs, Paul and Un sent over the last bit of their uni since they didnt have enough for the Uni Toast we wanted to try, but did have enough for our Toro hand roll I fought my partner for on the last bite. And they sent us a sample size of amother sashimi, not sure which, but we appreciated the gesture and it was yummy. Will be back for the uni toast. Mark my words!!! Overall, it felt odd to see such an ornate place so vacant, but come to find out, they just opened a little over a month ago and are locally owned by an ambitious Armenian foodie named, Erik. Funny full circle moment when I realized he was the same guy that owned a burger restaurant I used to travel from Inland Empire for and my best friends dad said he had the best sandwiches at a winery before that lol! Looking forward to coming back for the Omakase at UMI and the duck at their rooftop. My only complaints are the lack of bar seating in front of these sushi chefs, no omakase and the audacity of being this good only to have no dessert menu, but apparently they are coming soon!!! To settle my sweet tooth, our waitress was sweet enough to book us a reservation for their rooftop restaurant… Was is hard finding the energy to waddle to the elevator? Maybe… but I can't think of any places in the area where this is even an option, and you get to see the city view, how fun is that? Thank you so much for this rollercoaster of flavor fusions I never knew I needed. As mentioned, this place is locally owned, so of you loved it as much as we did, LEAVE A REVIEW too!! It is a crime to see empty seats with so much talent behind the bar. Great job choosing your team, Erik!

Overall a great dining experience! The ambience is great and the staff was really kind. The best part was the sushi. The sushi and the hand rolls we tried were phenomenal. They tasted fresh and some had unique flavors. The uni toast was one of a kind and delicious. I am looking forward to coming back and trying other things on the menu!

My husband and I recently visited Japan and the bar for sushi and sashimi has been high since. A night at UMI brought me back to Japan. First, the host and our server were inviting and very friendly. Second, the atmosphere was grown and sexy, everything was sophisticated and gorgeous. And the most important part, THE FOOD, was an experience. We had the salmon, albacore, and scallop sashimi...the fish was fresh, delicate and treated with love...absolutely delicious. We also tried the shrimp tempura, wagyu tartar and crab roll...equally delicious. Finally, Chef Kirk hit us with the no name roll....trust me, you won't be disappointed, just order it. Overall, UMI is a 10 out of 10. Will definitely return and recommend.

Dining in Los Angeles often comes at the price of dealing with poor hospitality, but here I experienced some of the best, and the food was even better. We went by the suggestions of our enthusiastic waitress, and they did not disappoint! The food was so good I forgot to take pictures until the end, which I am sure my friends appreciated since I like getting every angle of the dishes when I do. Stay tuned for pt. 2 of the one I snapped. 😅 NOTE: My review of the dishes will be broken into two reviews, maybe on Yelp instead, because I need you to know the journey my taste buds were taken on with my friends: Food Review Highlights Pt. I: CEVICHE MISO CONES (5/5): The ceviche is composed of 4 different types of fish marinated in a tangy yuzu ponzu and scooped like ice cream into these adorable salty, sweet miso sesame cones. The attention to detail and creativity goes down to the mountain of puffed rice the cones are wedged into (they don't taste like much outside of crisp, crunchy air, if that makes sense). UNI TOAST (5/5): Listen, the texture and taste of uni has NEVER sat well with me, but THIS was the surprise of a lifetime (literally and figuratively, the manager sent it as a gift). The brioche toast was crumbly, lightly sweet and oily; the sauces gave a salty, sweet, savory layer; and the Santa Barbra uni was the freshest, mouth melting texture I didn't know could come from uni (maybe I have only ever had bad uni before this, but WOW this has opened my horizons to try uni in the future elsewhere and more confidently) BAKED SALMON HANDROLL (4.5/5): The warm handroll is delivered sesame speckled soy paper, generously stuffed with rice; buttery hass avocado; perfectly baked rich, fatty King Salmon; and an airy, slightly dulcet kewpie mayo snow crab mix. The only thing I would change is opting for nori paper in the future. NOTE: My friends LOVED the soy paper, but I feel like the salty crunch of nori would better compliment the sweet notes of the handroll. HALIBUT SASHIMI (6/5): My favorite dish of all! The halibut was lightly oceanic, lean, but firm, rolled into upright cyclinders; topped with cilantro flowers and a piquant yuzu pickled thai chili. They were placed in a pool of citrusy heaven (but they call it leche de tigre) with cilantro oil piped parallel to the halibut. If you try anything, try THIS RED SNAPPER SASHIMI (5.1/ 5): Uni toast was my conversion, this was my best friend's. The japanese red snapper was nutty and delicate in flavor with a firm, but tender texture. As was instructed, I rolled the madai in a bit of everything: Think thick tangy creme fraiche; an almost floral, candied, zesty note from kumquat; hanaho; and a cloud of umami soy-yuzu foam. I may be missing some ingredients, but glad to say I didnt miss out on this unique dish with flavors I never thought would compliment one another. It was sensational and my second favorite dish I tried.

Yelp
It was my second time, eating here... and the second time was better than the first period The best part is you can get the UMI menu downstairs, upstairs and in the patio. The service is amazing, Andy was our server this most recent time, and he was an absolute pleasure. The bartenders are also amazing, I had a blueberry drink last time, and it was delicious. The drink drinks are good, the service is impeccable, and the food is always reliable. THANK YOU, EDEN.

Yelp
I've been using Yelp for a long time and this is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a review. This was among the worst service I've experienced, and arguably the least acceptable relative to the pricing of the restaurant. Went on a Saturday night at 8pm, rooftop seating. The place was only about half full yet very difficult to get any service. Got our seats pretty quickly but no server came by for about 15 min and could not flag anyone down. Ended up walking to the bar to ask the bartender for help, and to ask for water and a menu while we wait. Waitress finally came by to take our order, ordered two martinis and some sushi. One of the dishes was wrong, and they were nice enough to comp the incorrect dish while they brought the correct dish. Ordered truffle fries in the meantime. The fries arrived after about 20 min. Martinis still had not arrived so asked about the status. They then brought one of the martinis right away, albeit by that point it had been about 45 minutes since placing the order. The second one never arrived. Then we could not flag the waitress down for the check, ended up walking back to the counter to request the check. The waitress was argumentative when we brought up the fact that the second martini never arrived. Perhaps they were having a bad day, but I don't think they were overwhelmed since there weren't that many other tables. Earlier, the couple at the table next to us had left soon after we had arrived, and had appeared quite upset as they were waiting for their check. I assume they may have had a similarly bad experience. The food itself was fine. The toro though was a fairly mediocre cut. Yellow tail was decent. The truffle fries only had a few fries at the top with truffle oil, the rest was just regular fries. I would strongly recommend against this place.

Yelp
First time here to celebrate anniversary. Early reservation, ended up staying 2 and a half hours. Staff was great. Food was delicious. They sat us in a booth on the third floor. Great ambiance. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Umi by Eden is a great spot for dinner. They offer dinner starting at 6pm on their first floor & rooftop lounge. The first floor which they call Umi is dimly lit, intimate and romantic - great for date night, business meal &/or special events. the rooftop lounge was more bright, spacious and open. When the windows are open there is fresh air coming in and adds to the ambiance. The service is professional, and attentive. The host is polite and friendly. There is a new sushi chef & we were recommended by locals - we are happy we tried Umi. The menu has a variety of cold & hot options for appetizers & entrees and the cocktail menu is quite extensive. We loved the drinks we selected - market margarita & caymus wine. We also heard lot great things about their lychee martini and we enjoyed that very much! For appetizers we ordered spicy tuna crispy rice, rock shrimp & famous truffle fries - everything was so delicious and portions were good, even generous. For entrees we ordered Spanish Bluefin Tuna Sashimi, Bluefin Toro, Albacore Cut Roll & Black Label Burger - we loved it all! Definitely recommend Umi by Eden in Glendale!! Will come back!!

Yelp
Whether you're here for a special occasion, a date night, or a fun evening with friends, Eden on Brand is the perfect spot. It's not just a meal, it's an experience--one I can't wait to come back for! Everyone is kind and welcoming their service is TOP NOTCH!! And the food?! AMAZING not one dull dish. Super vibey with a luxe feel (perfect for a girls night out)

Yelp
Yes yes yes. A perfect evening! Our sake and sushi were fantastic! We ordered specifically from the Chefs recommended menus. The dishes were imaginative and delicious.

Yelp
Place is elegant and chic. Came here for sushi. Sushi was good, but I usually prefer fresh fish not masked in so much sauce. Service is quick and friendly.

Yelp
Umi has only been open for about a month. The original eden burger is now completely at the 3rd floor and Umi by eden takes up the entire first floor. The seating is a mix of tables and lounge style. They also have bar style seating in the middle. Amy was our server/bartender and she was amazing and very sweet. We had spicy tuna hand rolls, popcorn shrimp, and a lemon roll. All of the food tasted great. I had the lychee martini which was sooo good, highly recommend it!

Yelp
A new and beautiful location below Eden has just opened and we are so excited to be here!! First things first: the moment we walk in the atmosphere, and the vibe is absolutely beautiful. Word of advice: dress to impress. They bring hot towels the moment you sit down. And the menu selection is absolutely wonderful. Fully romantic setting, so if you're looking to take your date, this is the spot for you. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Are we just was a sweetheart can't wait to come back.

Yelp
If you're a Glendale resident, you've undoubtedly seen the changes in the city's culinary landscape. Brand Boulevard, once known for ethnically traditional and groundbreaking restaurants like Carousel and Porto's, is filling up its commercial real estate pockets with fast-casual spots like Shake Shack and Fat Sal's. Now, while I enjoy a good meal based on quality control as much as the next person, what is lacking here is distinction. That's what makes UMI by Eden so special. UMI by Eden is the latest addition to Eden on Brand, the three-story restaurant by Erik Khojoyan. He has been a force on the restaurant scene since 2016, and I still remember the excitement of the opening of the rooftop restaurant, famous for its burgers. It has since shifted toward American-fusion. UMI by Eden is the restaurant's foray into the world of sushi, and it's helmed by Executive Chef Soojin Lim but managed daily by Chef du Cuisine Chef Hoon Kang, who bases many of the dishes on his own experience in the culinary world. Mind you, this is not a Japanese restaurant, but a restaurant steeped in traditional Japanese cooking methods. Similar to the way Eden on Brand is American fusion versus just stylized "American." The name UMI means sea in Japanese, while Eden represents the land. What to Order UMI by Eden occupies the restaurant's first floor; the vibe is dark corners and base-pumping music, even at 5 p.m. It's the place you'll seek out to impress out-of-towners and friends but not necessarily meet your fiance's parents for the first time. An atmosphere like this makes Cocktails a must, along with gorgeous dishes you might never have thought of before. Don't just crutch on the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice! However, it should be noted that the inventor of the dish (made famous at Katsuya) now calls UMI his home. Turn your sights instead to seasonal dishes like the Sawagani, which are Japanese soft-shell water crabs presented at your table LIVE before being cooked and served with a side of ginger sauce. If crunchy is not your preferred texture, the Red Snapper with crème fraîche, kumquat, yuzu foam, and micro-shisho from the UMI Specialty menu paints a beautiful picture of the restaurant. It's meant to evoke waves and sea foam lapping against the land, and all the elements in one bite are an umami of flavors on the palate. The menu is divided into Appetizers, UMI Specialty, Sushi/Sashimi, Hand/Cut rolls, and Premium Cut Rolls. However, you can enjoy everything out of order or focus on one section and still leave satisfied. Must-Have Dishes at UMI by Eden In addition to the above, the Wagyu Tartar, made with A5 Miyazaki Wagyu and served with truffle toast, is a deliciously decadent appetizer. The Halibut with leche de tigre and pickled Thai chili is one of the best tasting dishes on the menu, while the Spanish Bluefin Tuna with squid-ink chips is a savory masterpiece--although I wish it came with more chips for dipping. If you're looking for rolls, try the Banh Mi, which is available in both cut and hand roll format and feels truly original. The Yellowtail Jalapeño with cucumber, avocado, gobo, serrano, and cilantro yuzu ponzu is quite comforting, and my husband - who also happens to be Korean like the Chef - felt it was the texture of kimbap. Lastly, if you want a real treat, order the Toro with kizame wasabi and Eden soy. It might be the best bite of your night. The pieces with the kizame wasabi gently folded inside each layer are just perfection. Now, What are you Drinking? The drink menu at UMI by Eden is extensive, offering Signature Cocktails, Sake, Pours of Japanese Whiskey, Wine, and Japanese-imported Beer. Signature Cocktails include the Matcha Sour, a Maracuya Cocktail with gin and Peruvian passion fruit, and a Spicy Pineapple Margarita. There's also an entire half page of just cocktails, thanks in part to the second bar that is located on the roof of the restaurant. Mocktails like the Gold Rush with zero-proof whiskey ensure that everyone can participate in the nightlife feels. Secret Menu Items While not on the menu at the moment, it was hard not to ask for the luscious Uni Caviar Toast, which can be found on their website. Eden even has its own brand of caviar now! The chefs were happy to oblige, and I hope it makes its way back to the specialty list because it's so darn good, even if you're not in the uni fan club. *This post can be found in it's entirety on EatDrinkLA.com

Yelp
Originally booked Eden's menu but was glad we were able to order sushi from the Umi menu. Was pleasantly surprised. The fish was fresh, delicious, and best sushi I've had in Glendale in a long time. Happy this is a solid sushi option now. Favorites were the lemon roll, lime roll, and spicy tuna on crispy rice.

Yelp
Dining in Los Angeles often comes at the price of dealing with poor hospitality, but here I experienced some of the best, and the food was even better. We went by the suggestions of our enthusiastic waitress, and they did not disappoint! The food was so good I forgot to take pictures until the end, which I am sure my friends appreciated since I like getting every angle of the dishes when I do. Will post more info for pt. 2 Pt I of my review of the dishes I *need* you to know the journey my taste buds were taken on: CEVICHE MISO CONES (5/5): The ceviche is composed of 4 different types of fish marinated in a tangy yuzu ponzu and scooped like ice cream into these adorable salty, sweet miso sesame cones. It was sensational and my second favorite dish I tried. The things that happen when you ask! One of my friends is vegetarian and the executive chef was kind enough to help create vegetarian versions of their dishes with his team since we were the only guests there (NOTE: They let us know they normally can't on busy days, but as fate would have it, we lucked out). She was exstatic to be offered more than their vegan lemon roll, and man did they pull out the stops. It wasn't just settling for a cucumber roll... No they went ALL OUT for her. I stole one of her vegan crispy rice with BEETS??? One of the best things I have put into my belly. Gut health and plant based fun? A win is a win.

Yelp
We were greeted very well at the reception. The wait time to be seated was about 10 minutes. The food was just amazing, very tasty, very beautifully served. We drank sake and it was delicious. The coffee was also excellent. We really enjoyed everything and will definitely come back.

Yelp
This place is TOP NOTCH. it is about time Glendale has a gorgeous upscale sushi place to go to. The place is located in prime Glendale location, there's plenty of parking all over, and it is a beautiful walk along Brand Blvd. I had a few of the dishes Wagyu Tartare - the toast, the truffle it is divine ! Shrimp Tempura - best tempura batter ever. Light and airy so you eat it without feeling stuffed or oily. Toro Sushi - melts in your mouth delicious! Albacore Sashimi - once again perfection ! Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll - oh my god. Best shrimp Tempura ever with the albacore. I ended up ordering two more ! Toro Hand Roll - amazing ! I ordered a 2nd of this too because it was so good ! Japanese Whiskey - if you like whiskey you will love their selection! The service is impeccable as always. I always feel special here. From the moment you walk in to hostess desk to the server bringing our drinks, to the bus boys. Eden on Brand has been my favorite place for a long time now and I am beyond excited that I have a special sushi place to go to with my husband or my girls and enjoy high quality fresh sushi and a fine dining experience! I'm just gonna say it, this place will become the Nobu of Glendale!

Yelp
This visit was a whole experience lol. We let the waitress choose for us.... Bold choice on our part to say bring us anything and JOKINGGG to bring the freshest thing haha! She definitely brought us the ocean straight to the table with the sawagani. Never would have thought of ordering it before... But it was actually really good!!! The toro, yellowtail, and Santa Barbara uni nigiri were heaven. Sad the miso cones were out, but the red snapper was amazing as always. The Tomaju was the pairing for our date night, great if you like floral, crisp, and lightly sweet sake.

Yelp
If it were just about the sushi, I would give this place four stars, but honestly, I just wanted to leave pretty quickly after we sat down. Of course, getting seated, even on a Tuesday night with only two parties in the room was quite an ordeal. We walked to the bar and were told we needed to check in at the front desk. No one is there. We wait. We wait. A few minutes later a woman comes down and asks if we have a reservation, we say no and ask if it's OK to sit at the bar that has no one seated at it. She pulls up her computer, studies it like she's about to get a slew of reservations, and says that's fine and then proceeds to ask us a bunch of questions, our name, our phone number and explains she is doing that in case we leave something. Ok, but this is taking awhile to just sit and we've got a movie. Finally she walks us over to the empty bar. The bar stools are these very beautiful but supremely awkward configurations that are impossible to scoot up or move straight once you sit down and have receded foot rests so you are basically hanging your legs off. There is not a perceivable purse hook. The music is blaring techno. It's just all wrong for a Tuesday night vibe. We order from the sushi chef and that's fine. The sushi is expensive but not bad with good quality and some innovation. I really like my handroll. But we've only had a few pieces of sushi and we need to leave to make our movie on time, just around the corner. I'm still very hungry. We ask for the check and if it's possible to get separate ones not thinking that's a big deal on very slow night with only two of us. We are told by the hostess who is now serving as a waitress? that they don't do that. She gives a very long explanation about too many parties on busy nights all wanting checks and intimates it's a pain for her. She tells us the management decided that if they let people do separate checks during the week, they expect it on busy ones so they just don't do it. All in all, a pretentious, too loud, too fussy, too expensive restaurant that doesn't seem to be created for diners and has a lot of procedures that affect the dining experience. With so many options in the vicinity, like too many, this is not the one to spend your money.

Yelp
Drinks should come first. Appetizers should come second. Main should come third. In any other restaurant. At UMI, water came, then part of the appetizers, then one of the cocktails, then rest of the appetizers, then utensils (chopsticks). Then the beer, 3 minutes after the appetizers sashimi orders came, 5 minutes later pickled wasabi came (they ran out of fresh). Then sake had to be canceled as we were almost done with food. Toro was the worst 3 piece toro i have ever seen, yellowtail and albacore was the driest i have ever seen. Dont get me started on Uni, we specifically asked the size, asked if they were two to three inches, was told yes, never seen uni that small. Not coming back , let those who have no clue what sashimi should taste like enjoy

Yelp
I came with friends and wasn't sure what to expect in terms of Sushi. The space was beautiful and luxurious, and the service wonderful. The food was delicious and presented as works of art. The fish melted in your mouth and was not overpowered by sauces and other flavorings. Because it was a weekday, we had the opportunity to be seated on the rooftop area and order from the Umi menu. The cocktails were amazing. I started with the Lychee Martini. It was not overly sweet and had a nice balance of tartness. After dinner, the Sencha Sour Martini was recommended by Abi and it was my favorite cocktail. It included matcha green tea, Suntori whiskey and foam on top. My favorites included the Ceviche with miso cone, Wagu Tarte, Halibut Sashimi and Kappachi. With our after dinner drinks, we tried their signature black label burger sliders with truffle fries from their other menu. That did not disappoint as well as their Brownie Sundae and Bread Pudding desserts.

Yelp
Very poor service ... on Valentines night we waited one hour without getting our food had to leave the restaurant... not recommend to anyone. We had reservations. They ruined our night .Very unsatisfying

H A.

Yelp
Ambiance was nice. Sushi was subpar. Service NEEDS to improve. Waited 20+ minutes to put my drink order after being seated. Another 10+ minutes to order food. Spent $200+ without alcohol and left feeling hungry with my wife. Come at your own risk, and leave dissatisfied. Two thumbs down for service and sushi. 2 thumbs up for ambiance. Unfortunately, I don't go to a Restaurant just for the ambiance.

Karina N.

Yelp
Make sure you read the menu. They make whatever they want. They don't have classic sushi. Also got some attitude on the remark I made, when it was waitress' fault. They charge extra for soy paper.

Hilda M.

Yelp
Very poor service, for Valentine day event we reserved a table but after 2 hours we didn't get any response for food , they just brought us a drink my suggestion if you have big events please add more people to take care of customers it was really awful customer service

Yelp
Sushi was ok service was horrible! Our waiter was rude kept forgetting items and had a horrible attitude! My friend had to get up and grab a water pitcher because our server couldn't even do that much. This place is run in true Glendale fashion HORRIBLE! Go here if you want to waste your money and be treated like crap. So many better places for sushi in Glendale that won't be a scam and a fraud! As a local it's disappointing but not surprising.

Rey F.

Yelp
Got to try out this new sushi restaurant and I'd have to say it very good with high quality ingredients. I'm into the simple flavors but the combination of flavors that chef was putting together was amazing. Service is great with very nice staff and I will be back really soon!

Yelp
I visited yesterday for my first time for a solo dinner and it is a very beautiful establishment that offers fine dining at a lower cost than other restaurants. The quality of service and food was excellent, however the portions are on the smaller side. I will be returning and this would fun to come with friends!

Yelp
Overall a great dining experience! The ambience is great and the staff was really kind. The best part was the sushi. The sushi and the hand rolls we tried were phenomenal. They tasted fresh and some had unique flavors. The uni toast was one of a kind and delicious. I am looking forward to coming back and trying other things on the menu!

Wow, where do I start? From the moment we walked into Eden On Brand we were transported back to our time in Japan! From it inviting sexy atmosphere that's sure to win over your dinner guests, to the delicious food with flavor profiles that makes your face do the, "Wait until you try this look ! " The Chef who goes by Kirk, came out to make sure we were enjoying our experience and shared with us some of his culinary knowledge which was evident with each bite! We had a really sweet server named Amy who took care of us and even shared some recommendations which we enjoyed as well. Like the Ceviche, Wagyu Tartar and the Halibut, Scallop and Albacore Sashimi. Also make sure to throw in the "No Name" roll! you can thank me late

Yelp
IG Reel https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3vojZZS1aF/?igsh=ZDE1MWVjZGVmZQ==

Yelp
They threw us out basically just because we refused to give them our name and phone number before we were seated . The girl at the front asked for it as soon as we walked in and just checked the menu and wanted the peak inside and look at the place specially upstairs cause I saw there were changes made since I had been there years ago. Then she asked again as soon as we got upstairs and looked for a few seconds , then we said we are still deciding and came outside for a few minutes. After we decided and came back in to sit downstairs , the guy at the asked us to sit in the front lounge area until they could show us a table , even though the place was almost empty downstairs. Then the girl came and asked for our name and number again and after we said we would rather not she said : I'm not going to call you in the middle of the night ?!!! . Then we refused to give it , and they said they can not serve us and we left .
