Good but very oily for the salmon skin hand roll… and it was $8 per roll.

The first time I ordered it through door dash, it was great. However the second time was very disappointing and a waste of money. I was served poor quality uni. There was lemon slices all over my raw salmon bowl that ended up cooking the fish. Also, I was served tobiko instead of ikura. The bowls were nothing like the pictures on their website. If Umi didn’t have enough food to take the order, they should not have accepted it.

Ordered from DoorDash for pickup. Arrived 15 minutes earlier than the pick up time. The staff said 15 minutes wait. That’s fine. So I waited. A lot of people who ordered after I arrived already got their food. 25 minutes later my food is ready. I asked why it’s late. The staff said the people who order on DoorDash has to wait until after they served everyone who dine in.. seriously.. so it just becomes an endless wait until you have downtime… really disappointed by this experience. It’s ok if it takes a long time. Just say that upfront. Don’t promise a pick up time but unable to meet that promise while I stand there and wait.

Google
How is this an Alaskan roll? The amount of salmon is ridiculous small, if I wanted a cucumber roll then I would be a happy camper but not. This was such a disappointment. I think the lady doing the roll had just learned how to make sushi rolls, if I knew this was gonna be my portion I would have rather driven to Fremont and went to sushi Ken for the same roll but half the price and with a real authentic flavor. Such a waste of time and money for this. I might give them another chance but paying extra for sauces and not even getting them is another thing from their service that was lacking big time. I don’t like feeling like I’m being ripped off. Or that I have to use a magnifying glass to look for the avocado.

Small portions. 2 monitor POS to order. Outdoor seating. Interesting hand rolls but I wasn't impressed. Good for a quick bite.

Google
I love sushi and finally found a hand roll place in San Jose, Uni hand roll bar. I got the combo, three hand rolls, seaweed salad and miso soup. For the rolls, I got Salmon Belly, lobster and blue crab. Since they were premium rolls, I had to pay a $1 extra for each roll. They were fresh seafood and very good. The portion was adequate, but not generous. The sides were good also, it’s just a little pricey. 📍Uni Hand Roll Bar, Downtown San Jose, CA.

I have been here like 8 times Over the past few years it’s always super good. Today Michelle made the most bomb Lion King roll I walked back in and ordered a second one for tomorrow lol .

Google
They gave me disgusting food. I ordered on door dash but the quality should still have been there. They also have me the wrong rolls. Horrible 🤢. Save your money and hit another sushi spot. I had a feeling I shouldn't have tried them out from other reviews.

Yelp
Pretty good. Spaces are limited here but outdoor seating is great. It's more for quick pickup and go. It can get really pack during convention days

Yelp
Umi Hand Roll Bar is one of the first things you see when entering the SoFA market in downtown. Not a lot of places to park. It was quiet in the afternoon, and the food selection was pricey for how much I was given. Since there was barely anyone in the SoFA market, I didn't understand why it would take 45 minutes to make my roll. The service is much slower than anticipated. The seating area was alright. Some places were not clean. I would not buy sushi here again!

Yelp
San Jose's food scene, especially Downtown, has overall been pretty disappointing for me. Working there, I've noticed there aren't many great options outside of company deliveries. That's what led me to try Umi Hand Roll in the SoFA Market--it's one of the only sushi or raw fish spots close by. I ordered the Sake Don, which came with six pieces of salmon, a lot of rice, half an avocado, some pickled radishes and carrots, and an option to add seaweed salad (which I personally skipped). Inside, there was plenty of seating, but the place had a bit of an unpleasant smell, which wasn't ideal. That said, the staff was really sweet, helpful, and made sure everyone felt well taken care of, which I appreciated. Portion-wise, it was on the smaller side, and the price felt a little high for what I got. With Downtown's lack of options, though, sometimes you just make do. Parking is also tough--it's mostly paid parking everywhere. I probably wouldn't come back unless I was really hungry, but it's nice to know it's there when you're in a pinch.

Yelp
My friend and I came into Sofa Market looking for a bite to eat. I was in the mood for sushi, so I gravitated towards Umi Hand Roll Bar. I ordered the salmon belly carpaccio. I thought it was interesting and usual to market sushi (essentially a chirashi bowl) with an Italian term - but it certainly is unique. The salmon was fresh and paired well with the bountiful side ingredients, like avocado. The rice, however, was a bit underwhelming and stale. Overall, you get quite a bit of food for rock-bottom prices at Umi Hand Roll Bar. This is definitely a place I'd recommend if you're looking for cheap and quick sushi.

Yelp
Great food, fast service, but I'm knocking off a star because their ordering kiosk at the restaurant charges you more than using door dash for in store pick up. I debated using Door Dash for a takeout order, but thought it would be cheaper to order at the restaurant. I was very surprised to find that was not the case. However, their food was great. Maybe the best tempura roll I've had. Hand rolls were large and delicious.

Yelp
Not recommended at all Not authentic and nasty food.... Not fresh and not tasty I order sea urchins and end up getting this, they should update the menu

Yelp
Umi Hand Roll Bar is located in a semi-secluded area that in my opinion can get glossed over in favor of some of the better known places in the Downtown Area, but I'm glad to have discovered it unintentionally while deciding to check out a new drink place my sister had told me about. You order through one of two kiosks, then wait for a text message for your order. Since I was with a friend, we decided to get California Rolls alongside a salmon and tuna hand roll, since we assumed that this was their speciality. I had also gotten a strawberry cake to share with my friend, but they had apparently ran out so I had to get a mango cheesecake instead (the kiosk said that they had it for some reason, but I suppose they hadn't updated it yet). My friend was also feeling hungry afterwards, so we decided to add Alaskan Rolls to it. The Salmon and Tuna rolls were alright. Both of them come with instructions of how to unwrap it, which was pretty helpful for someone who hadn't had a hand roll before. I also enjoyed the savory flavor of the California and Alaskan rolls, with the Alaskan roll having a more subtle flavor compared to the California. The mango cheesecake surpassed my expectations. I could see bits of mango inside, and my mom, who has a strong distaste for artificial flavors, said that it tasted like natural mango. Unfortunately I don't have a photo, and the mango cheesecake was a little small. I'm not sure if this is a place that I would return to, as there were a lot of unique places in that same area that I normally don't try and I think it'll be better to get to one of those first. But overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Yelp
BEWARE!! they served me rotten fish & still continued to sell it. I had to bring in the rotten salmon I ordered through DoorDash. I think what grossed me out is that even after acknowledging it, they still continued to serve the item online. They also tried to put the blame on the vendor. Shouldn't you check quality before selling?

Yelp
Good hand rolls but the plastic kinda kills it because ya girl was struggling getting it off. I lowkey wished the plastic was edible, that would've been fun. Flavor wise everything was great, the salmon was very fresh, the tempura - my daughter loved, the tomago was delicious as well. Overall everything was good, I would definitely order from here again.

Yelp
I can't rate this place higher than two stars because they're so hit or miss and they definitely skimp if you're ordering delivery. I've had a few good meals here but I've also had more than a few where the fish didn't taste fresh or quite right. They also ALWAYS skimp on the more expensive items so what you're getting won't be matching the photos, at least if you're ordering delivery. I'd go elsewhere.

Yelp
Located in a food hall. No frills, casual dining with indoor and outdoor seating. Convenient and great place to stop by for a quick bite right before watching an opera at the California Theatre. Very quick walk around the corner from the opera house. Staff are friendly. Ordering done by kiosk. Decent selection of items.

Yelp
I loved: $15 Umi handroll I liked: $7 Truffle salmon skin handroll $14 Uni hand roll $9 Salmon belly roll These were ok: $14 Dragon roll $15 Lion King roll $4 Matcha cheesecake Loved the namesake hand roll but $15 dollars is very expensive. Salmon skin is hit or miss. It's got strong flavor and good crunch but you can scrape your mouth and have a bad time. We also had 2 and one was excellent and the other was very dry. Skip the rolls. I'd say they're below avg even if they look like #goodeats Fine if you're already in downtown San Jose but for this price I'd rather just go to Rantei. Service was fine, we had a big order but everything came out at a reasonable time. This place is located in a food court so there's plenty of seats and the tables were relatively clean.

Yelp
My sister wanted to come here as we were craving sushi and settled for their hand roll. You order from a self-touch kiosk, no human action (thanks silicon valley). We got a few of their rolls, but come to find out after placing the order and picking up majority of our food that they didn't even have uni available. If that was so, we wouldn't have ordered initially, LOL. rolls were okay, flavor was expected but nothing out of the ordinary. would I come back? probably not out of my way for this lol food wasn't horrible, but not HELLAAAA good just fueled our hunger for the time being. Oh yeah, ambiance? in a food court with other food joints, but low-key limited parking if you were to come by during lunch rushes? we came on a midday on Wednesday

Yelp
Came by to the Sofa Market during the weekend and decided to try Umi out randomly. Ordered the salmon skin and salmon belly hand rolls and they're absolutely incredible. The quality of the fish and ingredients are top notch but the execution was just plain delicious and very creative. I frequent at a lot of sushi joints but the rolls here are top tier. 12/10 would recommend!

Yelp
Located in sofa market on the left hand side immediately when you walk in. This place sounded good but I was hesitant to try it. Upon better judgement I ended up ordering a crunchy roll and California rolls to try. Unfortunately the crunchy roll tasted fishy and not like shrimp at all. I ended up only finishing the California roll which tasted fine.

Yelp
Alright, I get it. There's a big event nearby and doesn't help that it's one rampant with weebs, that would definitely make this place super busy and fisted. With that in mind, I made sure to put in my mobile pick up order way in advanced, took my leisurely time walking over there, then used that time to scope out the rest of the market, before returning back to Umi Hand Roll bar to pick up my order. I delayed it so that I would be over my estimated wait time, thinking that my order would be ready. Unfortunately it wasn't and when I asked, how long it would take, I was told 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, I asked again and was told 10 minutes, AGAIN. At that point I just stopped asking and waited for my order, which took another 15 - 20 minutes. Overall this order took almost an hour after the initial wait time and it was a tad frustrating to see others who obviously got there after me in person order off the kiosk, much more complicated, bigger orders get their food before me. But I digress moving forward to the actual review. I got the: 1) Santa Barbara Uni, Salmon Belly, and Ikura Don: -I guess it makes sense that this takes a bit longer only since it's not a roll and a bit more of a "special" menu item. But it's honestly just a rice bowl with those proteins on top. -An alright amount of uni and decent amount of salmon belly and ikura. Tastes nice and fresh. Not a huge portion but not super small either. -Rice was a bit harder and dryer than I would have liked but I guess it was just scooped from the bottom of the cooker. 2) Green Tea Cheesecake: -This was already boxed and in their fridge. Just saw them pull it out and package it for me, so it's definitely something that you yourself can get from a market. -It's not bad though, not too sweet and strong matcha flavor. My order also came with a side of miso soup and I ordered a bottle of green tea as well. My big L for thinking that mobile ordering ahead of time would save me some of the wait, but nah. The fact that this cost almost more than $40 sucked for me, but it is what is. Don't think I'll be back any time soon or even for Fanime.

Yelp
Definitely not worth it. The hand rolls are small and pretty tasteless. We got the salmon belly, lobster, spicy hamachi. The plastic wrapper was super annoying to take off, and the tiny hand rolls were so bland that all the effort was not worth it at all. It ended up being like $30 for literally 5 bites of food after 5 min of struggling with the wrappers. I would much rather go to an actual restaurant

Yelp
My friends and I were staying at the Marriot San Jose. We were craving sushi and this was the closest place to us. We ordered 3 handroll combination, spicy tuna roll, and 2 coke zeros. First we ordered the tuna roll with the no rice option. However, the chef told us after he made the rolls that they couldnt make sushi without rice. I thought that was weird because why even have the option? Next issue is that they didnt even have any coke zero or diet coke options available after we had already ordered it. They were gonna refund us the price of the drinks but then the chef went to another restaurant to get replacements. AS for the sushi. The spicy tuna roll was alright, even with the rice on it. However, i didnt really like the lobster handroll because it felt like it came from a can. For the price, i think it was alright but not the best. But if you are craving sushi this is a decent place to try.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try Umi Hand Roll Bar today while I was downtown for work. They are located inside a small food hall along with a couple of other businesses. There was only one guy working and making all the hand rolls and he was definitely busy during the lunch rush hour. You place your order on one of the three digital screens located on the wall. I ordered their combo, which is 3 hand rolls with a small side of seaweed salad and miso soup. I ended up picking the unagi, California, and the salmon belly hand rolls with less rice (about $19 before tip) to go. I waited about 15 minutes for my order to be ready. I was impressed by how filling the rolls were. Each bite consisted of seaweed, rice, cucumber, avocado, and the fish/protein. The fish didn't taste or smell fishy and actually seemed pretty fresh. I really liked the seaweed salad and miso soup that complimented the meal nicely. Definitely will be back again in the future!

Yelp
Was craving hand rolls and this place really hit the spot! I love that there was plenty of street parking and space to sit inside! I got the spicy scallop, salmon belly, and California hand roll. Our 3 hand roll combo meal came with miso soup and seaweed salad. They were all so delicious! Highly recommend getting a side of spicy Mayo (costs extra). We also got the lion king which was pretty good as well. I would definitely come back here!

Yelp
Went on Sunday around 11am, the line was very long with two order kiosks and took about 20ish minutes to get our food after ordering. The hand rolls were very mid 1/5, maybe I'm more picky with hand rolls as I like fresh crisp seaweed but these hand rolls had soggy seaweed and while they did give generous amounts of fish they did not seem fresh. The lion king roll was the best thing at this "hand roll" place, would give the lion king 3/5. I believe this place is only open since there are no other hand roll bars in the area, would not come back.

Yelp
I LOVE this place so much I go here atleast once a week! Ugh! It's easy, fast and just so YUMMY. Also the price for one of the meals. 3 handrolls, miso soup and seaweed salad for under $20 is legit. What I love getting: -Salmon Belly hand roll -Scallops hand roll -Hamachi belly roll -CA hand roll -Shrimp tempura hand roll Oh also the Shrimp tempura by itself because it's so good! Other things: -My favorite part about this place is you can pretty much order everything without talking to anyone. They got those huge screens and boom. LOL. A literal introverts dream. Jk! But seriously, when you've had a long day, it's great. -Parking: Street parking. It can be tough on the weekends but any other day is pretty chill.

Yelp
Came here for a quick dinner before drinks and was very satisfied with my meal! I got the hand roll combo (which comes with 3 hand rolls of your choice, miso soup, and seaweed salad) and had the baked salmon belly, truffle salmon skin, and shrimp tempura. Out of the three flavors I tried, I think I would rank them as 1) baked salmon belly, 2) shrimp tempura, 3) truffle salmon skin. Each had its yummy unique flavors and fillings, but I think the truffle salmon skin scratched up my mouth a little- the texture was a little too rough for my taste, maybe passed the crispy territory and into hard. Altogether with tip my meal was around $19, and the hand rolls were quality and delicious so I think it was a fair meal! Would love to come back and try more flavors. Be a little careful walking around at night, some of the streets near by the SOFA market can be a little too quiet/dark.

Yelp
Decided to come here for a late lunch. The parking around here is really hard to find, so i'd recommend coming early if you are on a time crunch. It took us 15 minutes to find a spot and we still ended up doing a paid parking lot TIP: I would really recommend eating hand rolls there instead of getting it to go. They have this plastic wrapper to keep the seaweed crisp, but i personally don't like to read long instructions and i basically destroyed one of my handrolls (can't say that it's really their fault though) Seaweed salad: 4/5. Solid seaweed salad but felt like it was a little salty for my liking. Miso Soup: 2/5 Seemed like a standard miso soup but i'm not normally a huge fan of it anyways so take this rating with a grain of salt. Shrimp tempura roll: 3.5/5 Kind of basic, nothing bad but also nothing special about it Uni hand roll: 4/5. Nothing off about the uni, but this was a bit more expensive than a standard roll. Would've wanted more uni but i get that it's a "premium fish". Tasted pretty good overall Spicy salmon belly handroll: 3/5 The flavor was good and the handroll overall had a good balance of fish to rice. Only complaint was that it was a bit too spicy for me and i felt that took away from the overall flavor. Would've preferred a more mild spiciness, something like spicy mayo. Unagi handroll 4/5: This handroll was pretty good as well. It tasted exactly like you would imagine: rice, seaweed, and unagi with unagi sauce. Truffle + salmon skin handroll: 1/5 I only got this one initially since i like salmon skin and this was supposedly their number 1 seller. I didn't really like how the salmon skin was basically broken into little crumb like pieces, it made it very hard to eat. I also couldn't taste any of the truffle. Definitely would not recommend this handroll compared to the other meat based handrolls. Overall, i think all of the handrolls could've had more meat inside them. Not a fan of the plastic wrapper used to keep the seaweed crisp, but i understand the use for it. Probably wouldn't come again since it's a little pricy but overall it wasn't a bad experience.

Yelp
Slowest service ever :( I don't think I've ever waited more than 15 mins for a hand roll place. This place took 45 mins for 3 dishes... There was a whole ass crowd waiting for their food while the 3 girls behind the counter were taking their time to gossip. PLS............ On top of that, the plastic wrap to keep the rolls fresh makes the process even slower. I would def make sure you're not in a rush or impatient if you come here. Umi is in the SoFa Market food hall. Plenty of communal seating throughout the building. You order on one of the three kiosks on the wall. TRUFFLE SALMON: Not much truffle flavor, but the salmon is tender and fresh. Great portions of rice and filling. The rice is cooled and perfectly sour. CALIFORNIA: Pretty much what you expect-- Cali roll in temaki form. SALMON BELLY: Soooo good. Fresh and QQ! Since we ordered to-go, each roll was wrapped intricately with tear-apart plastic that keeps the ingredients from getting soggy on the seaweed. Kind of like the to-go onigiri you see in Japanese convenience stores. The fish is really good, but IMO their staff need training :-( I know it sucks to work on a weekday afternoon but like... Dude................ 45 mins??

Yelp
I got the hand roll combo set that comes with 3 handrolls, seaweed salad, and miso and Ramune! - Hamachi belly HR: not too much fish and rice was a bit bland (7/10) - Truffle Salmon Skin HR: not too much fish, but crunchy (8/10) - Salmon Belly HR: belly pieces were pretty good (10/10) - Seaweed Salad: pretty solid (10/10) - Miso: seemed like preheated (8/10) - Ramune: first time trying Ramune and it tasted like carbonated flavored sprite! There is a special way to open it so you open the top and pop off the top and then press it down to the hole very strong! Once you hear the click, you should hear a fizzing sound! Overall, I would come back for the Salmon Belly HR!

Yelp
Came back again during another convention and they've worked out their system! Wait time was closer to 30 minutes despite alot of orders and I got my miso and seaweed salad along with the handrolls. I went around 6-7pm and they had most if not all of their options still in stock, compared to last time, this was a huge win! If you're in a rush, I would see if you can make an order online since they have a text messaging system that texts you when they're done and it's accurate. Overall they deserve the updated review for that ~growth~ and how nice their staff were despite the huge waves of people they were making orders for!

Yelp
Good sushi place! The hand rolls come with miso soup and some sweet seaweed thing. They have a really broad range of nice seafood like uni for an affordable price. 10/10 recommend I think the ordering screen was really convenient for me and several friends. They also text you so you dont need to wait for your food

J K.

Yelp
I ordered the Umi Don- Chutoro, salmon belly, and ikura small plate during the lunch rush and was fine with the 35 min wait. But when I got my food, I found hair in it (thankfully before eating) & showed them, they offered and remade (although they did so with their hair not pulled back again). When given the second bowl the sauce was missing so I went back, and then I noticed the ikura was missing, so I went back again. I was then told that the last of the ikura was used on my first bowl (the one with the hair). By now the lunch rush was over and I spent my time awkwardly walking back and forth to the food stall trying to get what I ordered. I wasn't offered anything additional for the missing items/hair/or for having to go back so many times. In the end, the bowl was very lackluster and not worth the effort + price.

Yelp
Not worth it. Save your money and go find somewhere better. Not much to say because there wasn't anything special about it. I remembered paying less and getting a lot more at my last visit but this time around, I paid more and got so much less. I was pretty hungry and I left hungry. Portion was VERY TIIIIIIIIIINY and quality taste of meat was not fresh so it left a bad taste in my mouth. Just not my cup of tea. But maybe you'll like it.

Yelp
Came here because i was craving handrolls and didn't want to go all the way Go Fish. Umi is tucked in a little food hall and is located right at the front door on the left when you walk in. Order on the screen and wait for your name to be called. In the food hall there's some tables to sit at and some outside as well. FOOD 4 stars for the handrolls - i believe i tried the salmon skin, spicy hamachi, and the shrimp tempura. In terms of flavor, salmon skin was my favorite but I wish there were salmon bits or something in it to help balance the crispy texture. The other two were pretty solid choices. Salmon belly nigiri - melts in your mouth but veeeery tiny pieces. Truffle garlic edamame - SKIP. couldn't taste even a hint of truffle, very small portions. Not worth the calories or the price. PRICES 2.5 stars for prices - i did the combo A deal to get 3 handrolls, seaweed salad and miso soup. Certain handrolls had an additional cost on top of it so i feel like just comparing size to cost, it wasn't as much of a "deal" as the combo made it seem. The nigiri pieces were tiny, the edamame portion was also disappointing f SERVICE 1 star for how long it took to get our food. There was probably only one other person who ordered ahead of us, 2 people working.. and mind you, ordering is self order, but somehow still took almost a whole hour for us to get our handrolls!!! Overall, i thought the handrolls were good but not worth the price and most definitely not worth the wait. I'm glad i was able to try it but nothing wowed me enough to want to wait an hour for them.

Yelp
I loved this place!! When you enter SoFa market from first street it's the first stall on the left. I ordered the lunch set which comes with three hand rolls, seaweed salad, and miso soup for around $18. I think it is a pretty decent deal and leaves me perfectly satisfied, I just wish you could get more variety of the rolls you're allowed to choose in the set (no spicy tuna for some reason). I ordered the spicy salmon belly (upcharge), tuna, and tempura hand rolls. All were delicious! The service was fast at lunch hour, it's not very crowded in the market itself surpassingly so it was nice to get our food and eat inside the food hall. Overall would come back!

Yelp
Great food. Easy ordering (order at the digital kiosk next to them). Casual atmosphere. Large communal tables as part of the market. Friendly staff. PS make sure you get the pickled ginger - it was the freshest & best tasting I've had in a long time!

AJ J.

Yelp
The saving grace of this place is that the food is actually pretty good. Unfortunately the service is so slow that it makes it unbearable. I've been twice now and have felt that not only is this place fairly pricey, but it's just not worth the wait. I ordered 3 rolls and waited about 45 minutes for them to be ready. To be fair, the girl was working by herself and tried her best but honestly this falls back in management. Either train your staff to handle orders solo or always have 2 people working in order to keep up. The style of dining at the sofa market is supposed to be quick bites and it really isn't smart to have just one person making food for a whole restaurant.

Yelp
This spot is in the SOFA market. Ordered their combo which comes with 3 hand rolls plus miso soup and seaweed salad for $17.50. I got the baked salmon, hamachi and spicy scallops hand rolls. All were tasty, my favorite one was the salmon. Proteins seemed fresh but also felt not super worth it. The miso soup was tasty, not super salty. I also waited a good 15-20 mins for my order so service was a tad slow. Good experience but I might try maybe the sushi rolls off their menu.

Yelp
This place is located inside SoFA Market. I Tried the Santa Barbara Uni, Salmon belly, Ikura Don. Also came with miso soup. I wasn't expecting much but flavors were great. It was a great combo! Some ingredients tasted a little less fresh the 2nd time I ordered it though. Good enough if you were conveniently craving sushi.

I couldn't decide between 2 or 3 stars, but I'll just give it 3. I'm really not too sure what's the hype with this place. My boyfriend and I decided to each get a combo (3 hand rolls, miso soup, and seaweed salad) because it definitely seemed worth the price. However, the hand rolls themselves actually don't taste that great. Bummer. I got the shrimp tempura, salmon belly (additional $1), and spicy hamachi. Depending on the roll you get, you might be upcharged. I honestly didn't mind but then the salmon belly was probably the most bland tasting one in my combo-it literally had no flavor. I took one bite and handed it off to my boyfriend. We had mutual feelings about it. The spicy hamachi was wayyyyyy too damn spicy. Now we can both tolerate spicy food, but it was too much. Lastly, the "truffle" salmon skin was damn near burnt. I subbed my seaweed for soy paper thinking I was going to get the white soy paper, but it turned out to be pink which had no taste. I wish I had gotten regular seaweed instead. However, If you order any regular hand roll, it comes with plastic that you need to peel off. It was very confusing at first and personally didn't understand the reasoning for that, whatever it may be. I had high expectations for this place, but will not be coming again. They didn't even have tuna! SMH.

Yelp
Umi hand roll bar is located in the trendy and upbeat local SoFA arts district! Needed to pack a nice protein and variety of vegetables kick into my day after some work school and exercise activities. I have been eyeing this place for about a year and got to try a California and salmon belly roll for lunch. The California handroll was very good a good amount of crab meat, rice and avocado into a small yet nicely rolled seaweed snack. All with sesame seeds too. Four solid stars. Salmon belly roll was nicer for me since I needed a nice protein fill for the day, cucumber added a nice snap to the roll. The Seaweed was fresh and the rolls were made to order. Giving a generous 4 stars as a first time to Umi onyelp because of the quality, timely order, presentation and great customer service. Thank you! Enso forever. Quality. Customer service. Good salmon. Yelp
I didn't get to take a picture of my food bc I was so hungry! But they were so pretty! The way they're wrapped is so cool but also pretty difficult to unwrap, especially if you're in a hurry. The rolls were yummy and fresh. Since they're so fresh and made to order, it's gonna take a while to come out so be prepared.

Yelp
This resturant is fine if you need a quick meal, but it isn't my go-to spot. I typically order a bowl which is a lot of food and fairly priced.

Yelp
It's been a year since we have been back. They have a new system to order which was two touchscreens located on the wall to the right side of the counter. Their prices also increased in a bit. We came on a Saturday afternoon and ordered two combos which comes with three handrolls, seaweed salad and miso soup. Some special handrolls cost an extra .50 or $1 but still worth getting the combo. Everything was ready in ten minutes. We ordered the handrolls to dine in; therefore, the handrolls did not have the plastic wrap around the nori. For handrolls, we ordered 2 truffle salmon skin, spicy hamachi, hamachi belly, unagi, and baked salmon. Truffle salmon skin is their popular handroll which was correct. Everything came with soy sauce, ginger and wasabi on the side. Since we did dine in, we realized that we had to eat the handrolls fast so the nori didn't get soggy. They also had more items on the menu then the last time I was there. Overall, everything was good and the cost for the combos was reasonable. Our two combo orders were about $34.

Yelp
It's so hard to take off the plastic for the handroll. Found some boney crab shell on the crab roll. Not enough sauce or spice on the rolls. Son liked the lion king roll tho. The seared salmon nigiri was small

Yelp
Two blocks from the convention center. It's the closest Japanese food. A variety to choose from. Price is moderate. There wasn't much to order from today than what's posted on their screen boards. The dragon roll and the hand roll were decent.but too bad rice was over cooked. I crunched on the dried rice.

Yelp
I visited Umi Hand Roll Bar last week and had delicious unagi and lobster hand rolls. Lots of meat, great nori and rice. So I decided to order nigiri from DoorDash today. The handrolls I had were 5-stars, but the nigiri I got were easily the smallest I've ever seen. The uni was also not great, super salty and I ended up tossing it. I'm splitting the difference with a 4-star review, but I definitely recommend going there vs. ordering delivery.

Yelp
So disappointed. The unagi hand roll, it is just the skin no meat The other two roll, super cold, looks like just came out of freezer. Salmon belly is ok

Yelp
The location of this place is cool (food court style and like that this was an option), but a lot of the rolls were dry and you had to specifically order sauce on the side which I wasn't a fan of. What I ordered, I liked, but had I not gotten sauce on the side it wouldn't have been as good. The wasabi was like play-doh, so not sure that was fresh.

Yelp
I find the seaweed wrapper hard to eat so it affected my views on it. I ordered a spicy salmon roll and tuna roll. The fish was good. It had the right amount of sauce. I wanted to try because I've seen it on someone's social media feeds. I don't think I would try again but I had to since it's there. Service is good. It was a busy night and they were attentive.

Yelp
Decided to come here on a Friday during lunch with a coworker because the reviews seemed pretty good and the prices were reasonable . I ordered the Lion King roll and miso soup. The soup was great; however, the roll was burned on the outside, and every bite I took just tasted like char. It might have been just an off day, but I probably would not come back again.
