Raku Sushi & Seafood Buffet - Review - Round Rock - Austin - The Infatuation

"The words “bottomless lobster, snow crab, shrimp, oysters, razor clams, sushi, and hot pot” might sound like the ramblings of an eccentric and wealthy fishmonger, but they’re the reality at this massive Round Rock buffet. This is Disney World for seafood enthusiasts, and one of the only places in Austin where bottomless crab legs still exist. Everything is self-serve, and it’ll take a few trips to the buffet area to work your way through all the sections. Start with nigiri, sashimi, and hot pot, then mosey along to the baked mussels, peel-and-eat shrimp, and all the crab you can handle. If that isn’t enough, ramen, bottled tea, ramune, and dessert are also included in the all-you-can-eat price. None of it will be quite as good as what you’ll find at a sit-down seafood restaurant, but it’s solid enough for a few return visits to the buffet. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary photo credit: Nicolai McCrary photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Pause Unmute" - Nicolai McCrary

Value is my deciding factor in this rating. For $40 a person, I expected a higher quality of food. Service was good. The place is clean. There were issues with dish labeling, specifically with the dim sum sweet and savory being switched. The savory dim sum was 90% dough and tastless. The sushi was bland and it tasted as if they had left something out. I couldn't tell the difference between the offerings. Some dishes were good. Our favorite was the braised pork belly. The hot pot was good and neat to have on the table, until they had to refill the broth and the all the mushrooms flavor disappeared. All in all for what you pay here I was expecting an elevated buffet experience and that was not delivered.

Love this place lobster is top notch, for this alone you get your money’s worth. Ambiance is gorgeous with all the colorful umbrellas and Asian decors, the money tree which I put/hang my wishes a couple of times, celebrated our friend’s birthday here, the ramen tonkatsu is my favorite, bubble tea as part of the meal is awesome, the meat selection and seafood is superb, I tried to eat a little bit of everything to get a taste of it but boi I’m full halfway already. The desert is indeed a treat. Staff are nice and friendly. I told my friends and cousin in Houston about this place and they are looking forward to come here and give it a shot. So happy we have UMI in our area. I heard my friends in Virginia and New York and also have a positive experience.

Finally, a buffet in Austin that truly deserves attention! Umi Buffet is clean, spacious, and inviting. The food is fresh, tasty, and well-prepared, with a great variety to satisfy any craving. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. It’s refreshing to finally have a buffet in Austin that feels both high-quality and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit!

First timer. Food was a little cold, but once I told my server, they addressed the situation and fixed it instantly. Still, great taste for a buffet. Love how they have so many options! Johnny’s service was great and he made sure we enjoyed our time and food.

Google
The dining experience was exceptional, offering a diverse culinary journey. The selection ranged from traditional sushi to more adventurous options, including frog legs, snow crab, and mussels. The exploration revealed a variety of delightful items, notably the hot pot, which provided a wide array of ingredients for customization. Overall, the experience is highly recommended. Our server, Terri, provided outstanding service and was very helpful with our inquiries.

We went here on the Saturday before Father's Day. It wasn't busy when we arrived, but that changed quickly. They had a weekend special featuring lobster 🦞 and it seems that, besides their all-you-can-eat hot pot, it is very popular. In fact, it is so popular that more than once while we were there was a line formed waiting for the lobster. We were able to try it and it was delicious, so the popularity makes sense to us. The staff was friendly and attentive. Overall atmosphere was typical for an all-you-can-eat restaurant, but that's not a bad thing. All the food options looked great and the taste was on point. We felt we got a good value for our money. Worth checking out if you are looking for a good Asian all-you-can-eat buffet.

Google
My recent visit to UMI Hotpot Sushi & Seafood Buffet was quite the experience! From the moment I walked in, the bustling atmosphere and the sheer variety of options were impressive. I decided to start with the sushi, and I was blown away by the freshness of the fish. The salmon nigiri practically melted in my mouth, and the spicy tuna roll had just the right amount of kick. Overall, it was a promising start to what I hoped would be a memorable

Google
Umi is hands down the best buffet in the Austin area! Amazing seafood selection, fresh sushi, and hot pot options that really stand out. The place looks beautiful inside too—definitely not your average Asian buffet. Quality all the way. Will be back for sure!

Yelp
The food was very fresh and the server Korey was the best. He made my dinning experience great here at Umi. I would come back again. I loved the crab legs.

Yelp
This place has great service and huge selection of food. The food stations are clean and good atmosphere!

Yelp
Huge selection, everything was fresh and flavorful. Best Asian buffet I've had in Austin!

Yelp
We came here with coworkers for lunch. I was amazed at the amount of different dishes and options you have. My coworker got a hot pot soup to cook her meat plate and my other coworker got the creamy ramen. I just wanted to try it all, bite size of course, it's just so much food. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is good, I personally liked the mussels and shrimp. But I also tried things I could never have if I were not in a place where their offering was available to the viewing. The Mango was sweet and perfect! I liked it, I want to come back in another occasion to try the Ramen, my coworker said it was delicious!

Yelp
Pros: Very clean restaurant. Large selections of different items. Sushi was tasty Cons: I found the food to be very bland. The soup, the fish, the crab legs were oddly watery. Fruit teas were watered down. The ramen didn't have any flavor. It wasn't until after I tried it that I saw a toppings and condiments bar that might have saved it. I did the free surf and turf special shared post thing. (Lobster is not on the buffet). I was brought an overcooked piece of lobster and no 'turf'. When the server came back, they said they were out of steak. Overall I was just disappointed in the whole experience. You pay $40 for dinner and I was beyond underwhelmed. I did not get a bang for my buck and probably will not return.

Yelp
Y'all this place is a buffet on steroids. I've seen all the hype on social media but was still a little overstimulated when I saw the buffet. There's a location in Houston but I haven't had the chance to try it the last couple of visits. When I found out there was one in the Austin area, I had to try it out. I later found out that they're opening one in the DFW area soon too. You can order hot pot and get your own ingredients and there's even a sauce bar. They have lots of sushi options, and you can even make your own poke bowl. They have bubble tea in small cups in a cooler that you can just grab and add your own add-ins like crystal boba and rainbow jellies. They have the usual fruits and mini cakes for dessert. But the food! We came on a Sunday for lunch right after they opened. Everything was freshly made. Crab legs (cold and Cajun style) , kalbi, braised pork belly, short ribs, whole steamed fish, oxtails, baked oyster... in addition to what you usually find at a Chinese buffet. The shrimp in all the dishes were large which I appreciated, especially the salt and pepper shrimp. So yeah as with any other places, there were hit and miss dishes. I was most disappointed in the oxtails. They were thinly cut, and I didn't like the flavor they were cooked in. I honestly didn't try any sushi only because we had AYCE sushi the day before. The braised pork belly and short ribs were so good. Crab legs were decent. Hot pot was good. I thought there would be lobsters but there wasn't. Instead, they offered a complimentary surf and turf plate if you share their flyer on your social media. We did it and it was pretty good. Service was a little spotty but not too bad. They were busy. Our server even made sure we took a drink to go. Overall, would I come back? Yes I think so. It's pricey but they do offer premium items you won't find at your standard Asian buffet.

Yelp
This is a nice buffet with a large selection of very authentic dishes, like chicken feet, and a variety of seafood, including sea snails, and sushi. The main issues I had were twofold. First of all, our waitress was terrible. She didn't know anything and gave us no guidance on how everything works. I had to go to the hostess to learn about the buffet and hot pot situation. One person in our party got the hot pot, and the fuel they used to keep the flame burning to keep the pot hot had a strong odor and it ruined our appetite.

Yelp
After seeing an Instagram Reel, my mom said she wanted to try Umi Hotpot, Sushi & Seafood the next time she was in Austin, so we made the drive to Round Rock to check it out. The IG video was pretty spot-on: the decor is modern and clean, and the food displays are neat and well-maintained. But when we arrived, we noticed a lot of empty buffet trays, which was confusing at first. A little after 3 PM, they started putting out signs saying "for dinner guests only." We had already planned to pay dinner pricing since we arrived close to 3:30 PM when dinner service begins so we clarified with the server that we wanted dinner. What We Liked:    *   Our server Torrey was great, he was helpful, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed.    *   Decor, cleanliness, and overall ambiance were definitely a plus.    *   Clear pricing (although some fine print would help, more on that below).    *   The galbi, golden rice, green beans, and Thai chicken wings, beef & veggie dish were all solid.    *   My son enjoyed the sushi, potstickers, and the kimchi (he said it was not spicy, but it was flavorful).    *   Soft drinks (Pepsi products) are included and served in small glasses, but Torrey kept the refills coming.    *   Torrey clearly explained that we needed to order ramen and hot pot items directly through him. (We did not order ramen or hotpot)    *   Bonus perks: bubble tea and sparkling water in a cooler (is included) My grandson loved the fresh fruit, pizza, and individual ice cream cups. Room for Improvement:    *   The crab and shrimp could use more seasoning. (Maybe add chili oil on the tables) The crab was labeled Cajun boil, but it needs more seasoning and some drawn butter wouldn't hurt.    *   We weren't told ahead of time that crab legs are only offered with the dinner buffet. (Glad we arrived when we did or I would have been disappointed)    *   There's a wide range of items, including conch, chicken feet, fish roe, duck, and octopus. If you've got an adventurous palate, this a fun place to try new things. My son was all in. Insider tips: Ensure you add the right location in your GPS. There is a business with a similar that is in S Austin. The restrooms were spotless and smelled fresh (not overpowering or medicinal) The pricing is different if they are serving lobster, so just ask your server. I'm not really a fan so I was happy I didn't have to pay for it. Alcoholic beverages are available for an additional fee. Bottom Line: If expectations are set clearly, especially around what's included in lunch vs. dinner buffet, you'll likely enjoy your experience. I'm not sure I'd make the drive again from NE Austin, but for folks nearby or looking to try a little bit of everything, UmiHotpot Sushi & Seafood is worth a visit.

Yelp
My wife and I came here a few times when it was under a different name. We were disappointed when it closed but then we saw they had reopened under a new name (Umi). Everything is mostly the same, just a different name. We always get the mala hotpot and we like the variety of items they have to put in it. Specifically, the different kinds of mushrooms, tofu skin, fish balls, seaweed and I like to crack some snow crab legs and add the meat. The sushi is good. Lots of variety to select from - sashimi, nigiri, maki rolls, different types of roe. It's not the highest quality, but far from low quality fish. I would compare it to the quality you get at AYCE sushi places that make everything to order. The hot items are very hit or miss. A lot of them look and sound great, like the oxtail. I love oxtail but when it is cooked low and slow and the meat is falling off the bone. This oxtail appears to have been cooked fast and it is tough and the flavor is mediocre at best. There are some excellent hot items though like the braised pork belly which is one of my favorites. They have all of the typical buffet items like egg rolls, beef & broccoli, noodles, plus a few things you don't see everywhere like dim sum, shumai, and pickled vegetable fish soup (another one of my favorites). They have a lot of different drinks you can grab from the buffet area like teas and boba type fruit drinks. I drink a lot when I am eating at a buffet so I feel like I get my money's worth by drinking about 10 of these drinks each time lol. We're usually too full to try many of the dessert items so I usually just get a few pieces of jello and fruit, but I know they have ice cream and a few other things. Last time they had pineapple fried rice that was so sweet we ate it as a dessert. After tip you're looking at close to $100 for two people if you go at dinner time, so it is not the cheapest option around. But if you like sushi, hotpot and buffets like we do then it's definitely worth a try. We will be back soon!

Yelp
I met friends for dinner after our workshop. We decided to have sushi...all you can eat buffet. You have to pay a bit more to have all you can eat lobster (we opted out of the lobster option.) The place is huge and appears to be quite popular especially for birthdays. They had about 8 food stations with salad, and an assortment of meats (octopus, duck, chicken, crab legs, lobster, etc.) They also had an extensive assortment of sushi including caviar. In addition , they also had many desserts to choose from and boa boa teas. I was absolutely pleasantly surprised to find oxtails, plantain and caviar at a sushi buffet. The servers were attentive without being intrusive. It was so much food, it overwhelmed me. However, I did manage to get a taste of most things. Umi has a sci-fi feel to it with very clean lines and modern lighting. It also has a lot of greenery, which gives it a warm feeling.

Yelp
I haven't been here in 6+ months and had a craving for it. The hostess was very nice and let me know they were under new management. Bottom line: not worth the money. I gave them 2 stars for their good sushi and service. Everything we got: -Tonkotsu Ramen - SO bland, I kind of saved mine with sauces and spices from the dipping sauce bar; they also don't have ramen/soup spoons which is bizarre since they also serve hotpot -Lobster - the tail was rubbery, not worth waiting in line for and it's a lobster tail cut in half vertically not one whole tail -Chocolate ice cream - freezer burnt -Shrimp cocktail - they just bought a platter somewhere and put it out and some of the shrimp were still frozen -Cheesecake - also just bought some cheesecake somewhere and put it out, some pieces were actually still frozen -Steamed fish - yummy -Salt and pepper soft shell crab - flavor was good -Braised oxtail - probably sat out too long cause it wasn't tender -Pineapple fried rice - again probably sat out too long or was cooked with too much water because the rice looked like one piece of goop -Donut bun- good -Crab Rangoon - flavor was good but ends were tough -Chestnut bun- I thought it'd be filled but it was just a doughy bun The kicker was they then charged us $100 for two people (plus we tipped) for the whole thing. Price-wise I think for what was included and the wide selection makes sense, but not when the majority of the food is over/under-cooked and borderline inedible. I don't remember it costing that much before so to have the quality go down and price go up was disappointing to say the least.
google avatar

Priscilla L.

Yelp
Probably the cleanest buffet I've ever been to, and was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. Buffet price includes ramen and hot pot, so very worth your dollar and there's lot of variety to choose from
google avatar

Yelp
Might be the best Asian buffet in the Austin area (also one of the newest). The sushi / sashimi was surprisingly pretty good. They have plenty of hot items, soups, desserts and western dishes. Hot pot was also delicious. Definitely worth a visit. If you go, try to get Rieza as your server!

Yelp
The "food influencers" got me yall. I saw so many good reviews on instagram that I had to come try this for myself and I sincerely regret doing that. I had been to the location in houston(for those who don't know this is a chain) and it wasn't bad but this one was not it. For reference I came here at 5pm on a Friday night. The interior is very well decorated and the booths were pretty comfy so that was nice. With that being said, who in the world is in charge of the music? When we were first seated it was like the first 30 seconds of songs from the 80s which was jarring but not so much as to distract from the meal. The last 30 minutes of us sitting there we heard the second pre chorus part of flowers by Miley Cyrus over and over and over again. What made it worse is that there was a skip, a *insert explicative here* skip that was so noticeably bad. Literally goes "started to cry *skip* I can buy myself flowers". I felt my agitation getting worse the longer it went on to the point where I just couldn't eat lol. Seriously please fix your music situation or don't play music at all. Also the bathrooms were kind of dirty, there was toilet paper on the floor and some weird brown sauce(?) in the sink. They had two different soap dispensers on one side of the sink which felt excessive but kind of worked out since one of them was empty. The food was arguably worse than most buffets. We did the share this post on social media and get a free lobster and steak combo. I wasnt expecting anything extremely fancy but it was so small and both the lobster and the steak were overcooked(side note the sauce on the steak was disgusting. It was like they wanted to combine soy sauce, A1 steak sayce, and sugar together. Super gross.) The veggies definitely needed longer on the stove or steamer. There were some decent items such as the crab Rangoon, lo mien, the fried shrimp, the thai chili wings, and a good portion of the desserts. A lot of the other food options were bland or one dimensional. SKIP THE SUSH!!!!!! There was like one or two pieces that were ok but a lot of it felt rubbery and stale. The nigiri is loaded with rice which would be more acceptable if the rice was warm but it was cold and hard. The sago pudding had some sago in it but it tasted like vanilla pudding with some sago pieces that clumped together and the whipped cream on top had hardened by the time I grabbed it. Was not a pleasant experience. I will say that the staff were very nice and our waitress was on it with refills for soda and water.

Yelp
Man oh man...this was a great choice! Was looking for something to eat and Googled sush places nearby. I was very intrigued by it being a buffet and all. Thoroughly impressed with the different options. Something for everyone. Sushi, frog legs, ribs, chicken just to name a few. I have had better sushi from other places but was not bad. Different drink items available from Pepsi products to their own packaged sparkling waters and teas to beer. Good service. The server was very nice and attentive. The establishment is large on the inside. Room for plenty of people. The cost of the dinner buffet is $40. I believe lunch is $30. The $40 definitely goes a long way. Check it out for yourself.

Yelp
UMI Hotspot honestly surprised me--in the best way. The crab legs were buttery and flavorful, and the beef ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender. But the coconut shrimp? Amazing. I've never had it before, and now I'm obsessed. Sweet, crispy, and perfectly done. The sushi bar had tons of options, and you can even add your own toppings. something I'd never seen at a buffet before! Super fun and fresh. They've also got a full hotpot station with every ingredient you can think of. I saved it for the end, but you can dive in anytime. I wrapped it all up with ice cream and a few desserts, because yes, there's room for that too (kind of). Honestly, even if you took one bite of everything, you'd still miss a few. The variety here is that good. The staff is also friendly and always making sure things are set up nicely . And I added this video cause look of nicely it is organized. Enjoyed the whole decor and vib Definitely worth checking out if you love seafood, sushi, or just really good food

Yelp
Why was this place packed? I know it was a Friday night and words like "buffet" and "AYCE" alluring, but just no. Located in the old Hastings spot, at first the pricing seems okay for those with kids: $37/adult, $11/kid. But it's overpriced for what you get. Walking in, the bright, sterile lighting offset the casual dining. The pink tree out front make for a cute photo op. Service was meh- the drinks were slow and the hotpot stayed lit long after we asked twice to turn it off. She was nice enough, but just did not seem like she knew anything about the food. They offer a wide variety of dishes: various rolls, frog legs, fish stew, fruit, pizza, fries, a lot of fried proteins. They all hurt my stomach and left me in the bathroom sweating all night. The drinks in the cooler, including boba teas of assorted flavors, are included for dine in. So are ice creams. That's nice for the kids. But there are other AYCE choices. Go there.

Yelp
Plenty of parking, and the ambiance was good. There is absolutely no problem with the service. We adored our waitress. I went there a couple of days ago, as they are now called UMI, and honestly, that will be the last time. I wouldn't recommend the ramens at all. Someone mentioned the tonkotsu being bland, and it was. We didn't get the hotpot because there was no meat. We went during lunchtime, and if you're planning to go for the first time, I recommend going during lunchtime, as it costs $25.99 per person versus $39.99 per person for dinner. I was slightly disappointed overall. Their sushi wasn't bad, but I expected better from a franchise. My partner liked the hot foods. I went there twice when it was named Raku, and it was good to me (noting the health scores at that time). That's also why I decided to go there with its new name/new ownership, to see if it was somehow better. It felt like when it was Raku, there were more options, versus how things felt scaled back at Umi.

Yelp
Well I gave this place a try today and I was pretty disappointed. It's a buffet place. Simple as that. The sushi selection size was impressive but the sushi itself mostly tasted bland and stale. There was a large variety of other dishes but everything was just average tasting. They did have pork belly cubes that were very good but nothing else stood out. Service was poor. Something that really bothered me is that they serve drinks in these tiny 6 ounce plastic cups When you get tea and fill it with ice, you need refills constantly. Our server was hard to find and when he did show up, he would take our cups back out of view to refill them. So I never knew if I was getting my cup back or if it was the cup of someone else at my table. Either bring a fresh cup or refill it at the table from a pitcher. Or better yet, this is a buffet so put a self serve section. Are they trying to save money on iced tea? Another hygiene issue: the server was wearing rubber gloves and I noticed them cleaning up used tables. Well, when they came and took our cups, they were wearing those gloves as they picked them up. The whole thing seemed very unhygienic. I wouldn't come back just because of that. Finally, the music. They play pop music at a high volume and during the time I was there, apparently they had two birthday parties. They crank the volume up to painful levels and play some birthday pop song that goes on and on. If you want good sushi or seafood, this ain't the place. Sorry.

Yelp
Food was subpar. Sushi tasted stale, and the food was overall on the colder side. Service was friendly

Deric L.

Yelp
I'm not a Buffett person; however, this place seemed like the type to change my mind. It didn't. I came here with a friend to try the new 'premium' spot for seafood mainly. That, they actually had. So many other places do a bit of bait and switch with things like crab legs, but not here. They actually had cold and hot snow crab legs. The cold looked and tasted the best. They had all kinds of shrinks and prawns, but I wish they were peeled. I don't enjoy getting my hands dirty. Lol! They had tons of sushi offerings plus ramen and hot pot. Speaking of my friend loved the hot pot soup. Her only complaint was the lack of veggies and the lack of bowl or spoons to eat out of. I'm taking one star away for the small drink cups. It was very weird but they give you plastic, like throw away, cups that hold about 1/2 cup of tea, water, or whatever. Most buffets give you huge drinks in effort to fill you up, but not here. It would be ok if the servers could keep the tiny cups filled but that's almost impossible. The other star comes off for the lack of ''regular' food aka the staples. For example: they have abalone but not beef and broccoli...they have short ribs but no sesame chicken. That's kinda weird to me. For the price point (40&) I think it depends on your preferences. If you just want ramen or hot pot soup, go somewhere else bc iwe have tons of places that specialize in such for much less. If you want to ju try things like sea snails and you aren't thirsty, this is the place!

Yelp
I was hoping to eat lobster and crab the last time I went, however there was none at the time I went, was not aware that they have a specific time that they sell both lobster and crabs. However, sushi and some dishes were very good. Wish I try the ramen and hot pot. service was great, the lady at the counter was very welcoming. The place was pretty and very modern. Overall a cool experience but wish I had that lobster.
google avatar

Haoran L.

Yelp
The food here is amazing everything was fresh, flavorful, and had a great variety. The sushi was top-notch, and the hotpot ingredients were fresh and well-prepared. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, making it a great spot for both casual meals and special occasions. Definitely worth coming back again!

Yelp
Went for the warm crab legs. Thought they were of poor quality and never seemed to replenish. Most warm food i tried was barely warm and mushy, Good selection of sushi but tasted cheap and of poor quality. Would not recommend

Yelp
Came for the buffet but left with severe stomach aches... it's been 4 days now and when this food finally digest, I'm coming back to conquer this place. The food was insanely delicious so if ever you find yourself sad because someone took all the short ribs (I'm sorry. That was actually me) then you simply must be faster. This place had such a crazy variety, so if you're reading this and never been here before, I recommend studying like a final test on you are going to give yourself indigestion problems or just simply bring yourself a second stomach. The venue had space for two people, or if you want to bring the whole family church, Oh! Fo show! They family style dining areas as well. If you don't want the buffet and want to try the ramen or the hot pot, they really do have it all. Thank you guys for a wonderful experience. Jason; good sir, I shall return!

Yelp
Came to this place from looking online. I felt it was overpriced for a buffet. Services was so so selection was not great. They serve you drinks in a 6 oz cup. Just my opinion but 39.99 is not worth it.

Tiana P.

Yelp
The service was great. Our server was very diligent and hardworking. The host was very friendly as well. The workers are to be commended for their excellent service and attitudes despite the heavy foot traffic they have to endure to clear plates, replace food trays, and take orders. The food, however, was extremely poor in quality. The sushi was fishy and pungent as it had been sitting out too long (not fresh). The hot foods were not any better. They all tasted as though they were left out too long--soggy or extremely dried out. Hotpot was bland and weirdly sweet. The desserts at buffets normally compensate for what the savoury side lacks, but in this instance none of the desserts were salvageable. The mochi had a bitter artificial aftertaste and the "crème brûlée" had a wet sugary top and a firm, spongy texture that had the smell and taste of butane (evidence of torch misuse). The boba they offer is extremely watered-down. This is expected of buffets. You get what you pay for. Won't be returning.

Yelp
Don't go! The pictures look amazing on yelp and we were excited to try it out, but we were totally shocked at what the place and food was really like. The food looked like it had been sitting out for a while and was soggy or cold. All of the hot pot items were mislabeled and there wasn't much to choose from. Plus it smelled like it was going bad or dirty water was around the place. It took forever for our waiter to even realize we were needing to order drinks and hot pots. And good lord...there were so many birthdays! At least 7 times within 1 hour they brought out this obnoxious light-up sign and played this loud birthday music to everyone. $91 is insane for two hot pots and lackluster food that isn't organized or fresh.

Yelp
it is a scam ! they have a small sign 45$ for lobster this weekend (limited time promotion) here is the kicker 1. They don't inform the patrons that everyone will be charged 45$ (whether you partake on lobsters or not) i feel bad to the couple who was shocked. ( the guy upfront didn't inform us either!!! 2. It is ok to pay the 45$ the lobster is available!!!! you have to be standing and waiting at the buffett like a lunch cafeteria or else you don't get a piece of lobster!!! 3. No assurance you get a lobster at all!!! ( i suggest make it by special lien patrons who want lobster should be served lobster.) we a table of four and we paid for for lobster priced buffet/ayce and. we only one lobster for the whole table !!! Don't advertise its ayce if you not able to serve such !!! Raku had more food choices !! a.the pork belly was great b.steeamed fish the whole time we there was never replenished c. drinks were not cold d. sashimi was inconsistently replenished e. abundant crab legs f. not much dessert options this seems for the price is a OVERPRICED chinese ayce/ buffet !! whet e th ey advertise so many's wagood stuffs that wasn't available Not available on weekend price !!! soft shell crabs wild caught spot shrimps chilled stone crab claws butter baked whole crabs butter seafood oysters golden lobsters oxtails stew was once and then never refilled ( tough not tender ) ramen was never offered than when it was Raku not worth the 45$ not the 38 $ for now hope they improve !!! we are hesitant to revisit soon. the lady wait staff was trying her best but she was by herself in our area she big able to refill our drinks and took time to clean our dirty plates she was adorable so we opted to still leave her 20% tip

Yelp
They just renamed the place (previously Raku) in hopes to run away from all the bad reviews. Same place with no changes to what made it such a disaster. The name was never the problem!!! Watching the manager wipe his nose with the same rag he was using to wipe off the thermometer he was using to measure the sushi temps. The food is gross and made my entire family sick. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Yelp
What's up guys! It's Dean in Austin at Umi hot pot sushi and seafood buffet. I'm here to try out the surf and turf dish. I'm here with my family wife friend sister-in-law. We about to get our grub on and feast on all the sushi and buffet. they have over 200 dishes. which include hot pot!

Lloyd J.

Yelp
I've been to Umi several times for lunch, and it was excellent each time. The sushi is impressive, with creative offerings of maki sushi and a good selection of nigiri sushi. For those who wish, the hot pot alone is a good bargain. It is notable that the lunch price is substantially lower than the dinner price.

Yelp
I tries this place 2 days ago. They give you a bite size drink cup to where you have to wait hours for drink refills, the servers are not attentive, it's OVER PRICED (paid $125 for two adults and two kids), only TWO out of all the dishes were decent and NOT a good selection of desserts. SAVE YOUR MONEY, YOU'RE WELCOME.

Yelp
I don't like to review places I'm usually just a lurker, but umi hotpot is a special place. The food from sushi to shortrib was not very good, service was decent enough but at the end of the day we go to a restaurant for the food and this place is a big ole skip. I went around 6:30/7 everything looked like it was sitting for a while and tasted like it too, in the end I stayed for 15 minutes tasted everything I could before I realized I was going to get sick here and paid 85 bucks(me and wifey) to get a stomach ache. Horrible buffet, decent service, would never recommend eating here unless you need to "flush out your system". 0/5

Yelp
Bad sashimi, chewy fried calamari. Tuna and salmon rolls are mushy. Hot and sour soup is bland. The best dish I got from here is the shrimp cocktail which is not that great. From the packaging, look like it come from HEB or similar stores.

Yelp
Great food and excellent service! The waiters were really attentive and were continuously helping clear the plates and refill the hotpot. My kids also got some free happy birthday sunglasses. Sushi was good, I like they've got unlimited ikura. The spicy hotpot broth was surprisingly very good. Probably the best part was the unlimited milk and fruit teas! Will definitely come back again!

Yelp
First walking into the doors, the aesthetic is very bright open and beautiful. You could see everything from the multiple unique types of seafood that they have as well as meats my personal favorite was the pork belly. I kept going back for seconds and thirds and fourths as well as the rice inside the pineapple it was very sweet and it tasted very well with all the foods. The staff were very friendly. They greeted us and got us seated right away.

Yelp
Went on memorial day at lunch. We found out the price after we received the check since it was a holiday they charged dinner prices all day. This is ridiculous because this is not listed anywhere in the restaurant.

Yelp
I was really excited to come here after my graduation as I had a lot of people recommended it. And if you come here for lunch on a weekday for the $26 price you are really getting a bang for your buck. The salmon and tuna is super fresh and tasty and all of the seafood and cooked stuff is really tasty for the most part. I didn't get the hotpot so I can't speak on that. The boba is pretty heavily advertised here but I wouldn't even say that it's even passable. The drinks are super watery and weird, all of the popping boba is deflated, and the cups are super unevenly filled, so if you're going for the boba be ready for disappointment. I don't want to discourage you though as the sushi and sashimi bar is worth the price alone, it's super fresh, buttery and delicious, I highly recommend it. The service is definitely lacking a bit, we each got one tiny cup of water and no refills so that was slightly annoying but nothing terrible. Overall I would definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous! Great food, atmosphere and service! A must do for Austin. The selection was so wide and the servers were friendly and quickly accommodating! Perfect all around!

Yelp
Good Food. Love The Hot Pot. Good Service. Waiter Is Very Helpful Since This Is Our First Time Coming.

Yelp
I really want to give a 5/5 but my rating is based on small but important details. The sushi area doesn't have tags to know what rolls or sashimi you are getting. Personally i have some food allergies and it made me reluctant to eat the sushi rolls because I didn't know if there was something in them I was allergic to. the grilled salmon options were overcooked and dry. the bacon was also overcooked in the tonkotsu that I had. Fountain drinks need to be bigger, it felt like every 10min I was needing water refilled or a soda refilled. Overall the price is a bit high, for everything given the positives and negatives. the server that was supposed to check on us didn't really, and we were helped by another. also when asking questions as it was our first time visiting, seemed it was a bother to answer questions we had about food/options.
