My wife and I visited Uni Sushi for the first time on Saturday, April 30, 2022 on the recommendation of a friend. We found the restaurant's location in the retail development sprawl of suburban Green Bay uninspired but, longing to find something apart from the vast monotony of cookie cutter chain restaurants, we gave this establishment a try. We left very disappointed.
Upon entering the restaurant I observed the front door glass hazy with many layers of smeared and smudge hand and finger prints. Though overcast daylight outside, the large windows were covered with closed blinds and the interior was poorly lit. As we entered there appeared to be more staff than customers. Despite the abundance of staff, as the host lead us to our table I observed the surface of each table wore a dull film of visible smears as if washed with a dirty rag. The table where we were seated was no exception.
The lack of cleanliness at our table inspired me to focus upon other aspects of restaurant sanitation and upkeep. Visiting the restroom I found the toilet and urinal were dirty. The room smelled of urine. The floor was distinctly sticky and dirty with shards of paper towel and toilet paper littered about. There was residue of a dried puddle of unknown substance in one corner of the room. The sink was not clean and the drain immediately backed up when the faucet was on. On a positive note there was ample hand soap in the automatic dispenser and the paper towel dispenser worked.
Upon exiting the restroom I observed large oily spill stains on the hallway wall. Like the restroom the hallway floor was dirty and small pieces of dark colored debris were visible lining both sides of the floor where it met the walls. Returning to my table I continued scanning the interior space and, despite the low light, could see a dark film on the floor at the customer side of the sushi bar. Based on the standards of appearance restaurant management is comfortable showing its customers, I can only imagine what the level of food safety and cleanliness might be out of public view.
The server was polite and professional. Our food and beverages were served with reasonable promptness. The food was distinctly bland and unremarkable. The soup and salad offered with my entrée was presented in plastic bowls pretending to be Japanese ceramics.
Based on restaurant appearance, cleanliness and the lackluster presentation and taste of our food, prices are exorbitant. Find a better sushi restaurant.
