The 16 Best Restaurants In Buckhead - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"When you’ve been seeing someone for long enough that they have your Netflix login, and your last three date nights have all been in dimly lit restaurants serving burrata, it’s time for something else. That’s where Umi comes in. It’s a scene packed with beautiful couples you want to hate, smug types who feel extra smug because they’re spending corporate dollars, and friends celebrating special occasions. Umi serves some of the best sushi in the city, so prepare to spend some money here—you can order a la carte, but if you’re there to have a really big night, go for one of their omakase options, which start at $155 per person. There's also an exclusive omakase counter upstairs, called M." - demarco williams, nina reeder, juli horsford, jacinta howard

This is now the single best authentic Japanese restaurant I’ve been to. Went for dinner, so I highly recommend a two item combo of Teriyaki Chicken and Barbecue Short Ribs, coming with Miso Soup and Steamed Rice due to them taking me back in nostalgia. They also had a full on showcase in their restaurant which amplified my experience. 10/10.

Came here on a Sunday so it was nice and slow. My dad and I really like Japanese food so I would say this is up to par. We got a simi sushi roll, gyoza, vegetable fried rolls, and vege+chicken yakisoba. It was all good, I feel though the sushi was not the same as it was on menu like the picture did not match the real thing. Which is okay! Just caught it as interesting. The staff were super nice and attentive. And at the end we got some plum wine and a chocolate mochi dessert and against what my dad thought the mochi would taste like he really liked it surprisingly and so did i. It was a very light and refreshing dessert. All and all definitely a nice little Japanese restaurant.

Absolutely delicious dishes, from the rolls to katsu. The service was professional, kind, quick, and provided my mother free ice cream for her birthday. The restaurant itself is open and inviting. We would definitely come back here and make this a regular spot.

I absolutely love Umi Sushi! It’s hands down my favorite sushi spot in town. I've been coming here since my first time in San Diego, and it has never disappointed me. The fish is always fresh and delicious. The sashimi is top quality and beautifully presented. I always get the sashimi sample—it's amazing! Service is quick and friendly, and the quality is consistently great. Totally recommend it to anyone who loves good sushi!

The sampler sashimi is excellent, and the rest of the meal is all right. The price range is the normal/ average price of the neighborhood.

Google
I really enjoyed the food. We got 2 sushi rolls and chicken katsu. All 3 were delicious. My only complaint would be the miso soup which had an odd taste, I believe due to the bowl holding the scent and slight taste of whatever soap was used to clean it. Other than that, it was an enjoyable meal.

Best sushi that I’ve had in San Diego since I moved back from Japan. Fresh and excellent flavor in every dish, roll, and plate. The Sapporo on draft was so flavorful as well. I might return here to a spot right in my neighborhood before I travel to Convoy for my high grade sushi next time.

Yelp
Sushi lunch time! Great find fresh sushi ordered the lunch special which has a little bit of everything sashimi sushi and rolls to fill you up. Service was excellent and chef was on point with our orders. Location by the water close to the harbor Friday lunch was not too busy.

Yelp
The sushi here is very good. They have a nice variety with good quality. We tried a few rolls and the a combination sashimi plate. All was tasty. The sashimi slices were a good size. This restaurant doesn't skimp on quality or quantity. The service was good and interesting. The younger server was always nice and helped us with smile. An older one gave us a stink face anytime we bothered her. They both helped us with whatever we needed though. We got the sweet and some combo wiith our sushi.

Yelp
Umi has been a lifelong favorite sushi spot of me and my Dad's. Always will go there as long as it's there. Food: Always good, sometimes the food can be a bit better than other times we go. Things like the garlic edamame can be a bit too much with the amount of garlic and sauce on it, which is why I only get salted, but that's a matter of preference. There rolls used to be really oversized but I think they've made them bit smaller. I've always liked their Umi wings they have. The baked salmon roll has always been a favorite as well as the rock 'n' roll. The cold, baked and deep fried are all good there. Service: The service is always paying great attention and they check on customers at a good rate. Ambiance: It is usually lively on the weekends, but during the week it can get crowded as well. But it can also be vice-versa. It just really depends on the day or if there are holidays going on. But there is a lot of capacity with a very large sushi bar that me and my dad have always sat at.

Yelp
Sushi was delicious! Portions of some sushi are bigger than expected, so start with a couple of rolls for less than 4 people. We tried the caterpillar, Vegas roll, lobster baked roll, Hawaiian and rainbow. We had to take out because it was a lot. Personnel was very attentive. The place is nice, nearby the harbor, we walked from our hotel.

Yelp
My coworker recommended Umi Sushi and I'm so glad we left our neighborhood to check it out! We opted for some seats at the sushi bar so that we could watch the ball game on the tv. We placed all of our food order directly with the sushi chef which I always enjoy. I ordered a house salad to start and it was massive, fully and veggies and a bright, refreshing dressing. For main dishes, I ordered a sushi roll. The rolls here are massive so one was enough for me. My husband ordered sashimi and it was a huge portion. The only thing we probably wouldn't order again were the wings. They were a bit too greasy for me. The restaurant has their own parking lot which is very crucial in this busy part of shelter island. Staff is friendly, restaurant has plenty of seating and friendly staff.

Yelp
Arrived right as they opened for dinner and the place filled up quickly. The place was clean though slightly warm. Service was friendly and prompt, the food was served as soon as it was prepared. So fresh! We definitely had eyes bigger than our stomachs, but we still enjoyed every bite.
google avatar

Yelp
Stoped at Umi Sushi for dinner and it was great! We were greeted and seated quickly. The place was inviting and clean. We didn't want a bunch of leftovers so we shared a salad, edamame and did the pick 3 combination which we chose teriyaki chicken, California roll and sashimi which had tuna and salmon. The sashimi was so fresh and buttery! The teriyaki chicken was not dry and was perfect. Edamame and California roll while no frills were great as well! Overall, had a great delicious dinner with great service!

Yelp
I've not been here in a while. It is always very popular. Had a bit of a wait on this Saturday night and then got a seat at the bar. Took a while to get served. We ordered the citrus salad before roll with shrimp, tempura, crab, cilantro, mango, talked with albacore. Also, the Seaworld roll with shrimp, tempura, spicy crab, cilantro, topped with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and sliced lemon. Both were prettygood, but have had better. Got two miso soups and a Yellowtail sashimi - our favorites overall, ok, as usual. But not my favorite sushi spot.

Yelp
I would say my first experience of this spot was average based mainly on quality of rolls and how they address mistakes. The service I would say was good. We were able to immediately be seated for a table of 4 and they take your order by having you fill out a paper copy. The server read back our order to us to confirm what we had marked. I wanted to make an adjustment to one of the rolls, and they were accommodating to switching the spicy krab for regular krab. The issue started when my group had ordered garlic tuna nigiris. They gave us nigiri that was not garlic tuna (It looked like yellowtail nigiri?). We had told them we ordered garlic tuna nigiri and she apologized and took it back. About 5 minutes later, they placed what looked like the same nigiri rolls, but with garlic put on top. We once again told the server that we ordered garlic tuna nigiri. She apologized again and took it back and finally gave us the correct order. The server was apologetic for it... but it was really off-putting that they placed what looked like the same rolls but added garlic on top of it in front of us after a period of time. The second comment I would make about this place is that although the taste of the rolls were good, the quality of how they were made were just 'ok'. I noticed that my rolls were not tight and the filling fell apart quite easily. Overall, this place is clean with pretty good service; however, it would not be my first choice for sushi restaurants.

Yelp
Massive specialty rolls, quality fish, a diverse menu, and spacious booths. They have a small parking lot up front and street parking, clean booths and sushi bar to sit inside. Definitely one of my favorites in the area!
google avatar

Prescilla S.

Yelp
Came here this past week since one of my friends was craving sushi. I normally don't ever eat sushi unless I'm going to an unlimited spot so this day I got a combo that included 2 hand rolls, chicken teriyaki, and miso soup. I didn't take any pictures cuz I was too hungry but everything was good. We also ordered 3 bottles of soju, we tried the sugar free one, never again lmao!! This place was a little on the pricey side probably since it's in Point Loma, it wasn't busy at all and we got in and sat down right away. And my dog was allowed inside the restaurant lol. I had food to take home so I was happy about that. Would give it another try if I'm in the area again!
google avatar

Brooke A.

Yelp
High quality, plentiful sushi at an amazing price. This is a great spot for a date or catching up with friends - it's not too noisy, and it's right by a pier along which you can walk or watch the sunset. The rolls are HUGE and packed with fillings - I really appreciated the fish/veggie to rice ratio. My favorites were the dragon and eel rolls. The tea was also delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. They got us extra ginger when we asked as well as filled up our waters often. I will absolutely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing array of delicious dishes... all in one with Ramen , Sashimi and sushi , yakisoba , Kama. Love this place . Love their location too and it's my fave spot in San Diego , Shelter Island. Good Customer Service as well. Great ambiance.
google avatar

Yelp
My first time here in a few years. I came with eleven of my friends. They have a great selection of rolls. Service was great and fast considering our group size. The sushi probably the second best iv had in San Diego. I definitely will be back

Yelp
We stumbled on Umi Sushi completely by chance and were not disappointed. Everything was fresh, delicious, and the service was great.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
Had a friend recommend Umi sushi so we went back and had a much better experience the second time. The rolls were yummy and more put together than the last time. We enjoyed all 4 rolls. Service was very friendly.
google avatar

Kiley J.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and sushi chefs, ease of access to park, clean and comfy ambiance with your party. Came here yesterday and everything was good! Uni was fantastic compared to most places. Uni on Toro belly nigiri was phenomenol and worth every dollar! Would definitely come back again!

Kimberly L.

Yelp
My last visit to Umi Sushi was about four months ago and it was alright, but nothing to write home about. The sort of visit where it was "fine," but you know you would rather explore other sushi joints than return. I had sushi rolls and the person I was with had chicken teriyaki and both were fine, but not up to par with experiences at other nearby sushi places.
google avatar

Wilhelmina S.

Yelp
The sushi was good , their tuna was fresh unfortunately we got a lousy service from our waitress who gave us the silent treatment after we thank her for our water then snapped when I verified my order. The rest of the staff were friendly. Ambiance is just ok.

S P.

Yelp
This is a fantastic neighborhood sushi place. Rolls are huge. Great sake list. We did mix of rolls, and sushi. But next time we come, we will just get nigiri because the quality of the fish is OMG. We did aji and sea bream nigiri, and look forward to coming back for more.
google avatar

Dan V.

Yelp
Great sushi! This place is a must! Very large rolls. The Nigri selection is amazing and great portions!
google avatar

Matt K.

Yelp
Here with a large group for a family event we enjoyed a variety of sushi brought in on a boat plus garlic edamame, some tempura and an assorted sashimi salad. I didn't like particularly all the imitation crab stuck into some of the rolls, which also tends to make those rolls a little mushy, but those rolls with the imitation crab were the choice of some in our party. The sashimi salad was excellent - very fresh. Fast friendly service.
google avatar

Angelina I.

Yelp
Food was delicious!! Came with a group and ordered 7 specialty rolls and some nigiri. Everything tasted fresh, and they had a great variety of rolls including some fried/baked ones. Some favorites were the kamikaze, energy roll, and citrus albacore rolls.
google avatar

Marciaann N.

Yelp
Have been here twice since my daughter lives close by. My first visit was on a Saturday and it was just ok. We didn't know you needed to sign in first to get a table. The servers would just walk by without greeting the customers. The rolls were really good and my husband really liked the cut and portions of the sashimi as compared to other sushi places we have been to. They did unfortunately forget to make one of our rolls and we kept waiting thinking it would be out soon. We finally had to as a server to check on it since we were almost done and it was never made. This place has great yummy food but the service is lacking. The second time I went was much better. It was on a Monday night so not as busy and server was more attentive. The food was great. Will definitely come back on a week day.

Yelp
If you like sushi and who doesn't, well maybe 1% this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. Down on Shelter Island in SanDiego. Yes, I was prepared for an expensive bill but pleasantly disappointed. We ate like royalty at the sushi bar . We got the full treatment of entertainment- definitely advise if want to people watch and get your food quick . Now the best part food was amazing. The sushi, sashimi was fresh and very delicious. We went at 5:00 that is a good time if your schedule allows. When we the dinner regulars were coming.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
The decor is very nice but we quickly realized t that if we lived here we wouldn't go back. I'm not sure how you get edamame or caterpillar rolls wrong but both were not good. The lobster roll was a mess. Most rolls are in pieces that are way too big. And they didn't have music on and it seemed like every table had a screaming child. Maybe we just caught them on an off night.
google avatar

Kason A.

Yelp
Don't hesitate, just go. UMI has been my solid choice for great hearty chirashi bowls and rolls. The fish is nicely cut and super fresh. The prices are also very fair for what you get. Service has always been impeccable and warm. I usually would not get teriyaki chicken at a sushi place, but it looks like a lot of people do and it seems very appetizing when it comes out. I cannot say good enough things about this place.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
We were in the area for an event and wanted a good sushi spot. A little research on Yelp convinced me to try this place and I'm so glad I did. We were able to get a table right when we got there (at 6pm on a Saturday. Note: It did get pretty busy around 7pm). The service was fast and everything we ordered was great. We got four rolls -- Ai, spicy tuna, salmon skin, and Washington. We also got edamame, salmon sashimi, and sake. It was all great. Everything was high quality and portion sizes were perfect. Ambiance-wise, there's nothing fancy about it. It's no frills. But the food is solid.
google avatar

Brian D.

Yelp
Umi Sushi was recommended to me and I'm glad it was. A smaller spot tucked in Point Loma with quick service and well priced food. The fried gyoza was great. We shared a dragon roll and a fisherman's roll. The rolls are pretty big but both were super good and fresh.

Yelp
This place is definitely a place to check out. Service 5/5: Our waitress was very polite and attentive. The staff was welcoming and absolutely great! Seating 5/5: The place is a little hidden as it's away from the Main Street so it definitely has plenty of seating! Food 4/5: Food was amazing and will return. Price 4/5: Pricing was fair and can't complain. Overall I would recommend to visit for a personal experience!

Yelp
Ordered vis grubhub, the prices are your average sushi prices and the portions are decent. They do give you large pieces of sushi (compared to NY) but then it also comes with a lot of rice. We ordered salmon and avocado rolls (this was average, I was hungry and it satisfied my craving). We also got the Umi Viking which comes with 9 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi, 2 hand rolls and a dragon roll. Served with miso soup. This was about $60 - not worth it. One hand roll was tuna and the other was artificial crab, pretty disappointed there was no salmon. The sashimi was not very fresh either. The crispy crunch roll (shrimp tempura, avocado, krab, cucumber. Top: crunch, potato crunch. Sauce: spicy mayo, eel sauce) was decent. I would have just preferred it come with the spicy mayo and not eel sauce. The spicy mayo was kinda floating on the top of the eel sauce and didn't look appetizing. Overall food was ok but nothing special. There is a large selection of items on the menu. I would recommend sharing.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I regularly come here for a Saturday dinner. It is our favorite sushi place in San Diego!! They have great portions of fish and a lot of interesting rolls to try. We always sit at the bar in front of the sushi chefs to get free seaweed & cucumber salad. All the chefs are great, we love Joshua! Something we regularly order is the Love Boat, which is 10 pc sushi, 2 hand rolls, a rainbow roll, and miso soup. This is the perfect amount of fish for the 2 of us! I love the presentation, they serve all the sushi in a big wooden boat!! We have also gotten the Umi Viking which is another boat with more sushi, but we only get this if we have a BIG appetite because it is a lot of fish for 2 people. We have gotten various rolls over our past visits, our favorites include the Seaworld roll (has a small sliced lemon on top which gives it such a fresh citrusy flavor), Citrus Albacore (we love the mustard soy sauce), Fisherman's roll (topped with deep fried onion!), and Umi House roll (lots of flavor!) Overall, we love this place. They are very attentive with their service, and have really yummy food. We are happy to be regulars and they never disappoint.

Yelp
Sushi is decent. My wine was vinagery. The service is hit or miss. Has been fantastic and not so good.
google avatar

Angel G.

Yelp
The Food was delicious, the server was excellent (wish I could remember her name), ambience was very clean and there was parking right in front of restaurant.
google avatar

Diane S.

Yelp
The chefs here are not Japanese trained and something is just off about the seafood quality. Fish was not sashimi grade. Eel was grainy and mushy and not grilled, did not taste fresh. Will not be back. The hostess and servers were lovely and tourist friendly. I think the food is mainly to satisfy the novice sushi eater and not for the sushi savvy guest. For high quality memorable bites. do tadokoro in Old Town, Masa's in Mission Hills, Sushi Ota in PB for better culinary experience. Addendum; must report next morning quite ill intestinally and lasted a few days. Medical exam revealed bacterial problem most likely from bad fish. Advice is, if the fish has an off flavor or texture, "do not eat and send back to kitchen so they can check it".

Kevin D.

Yelp
We went to Umi Sushi for dinner. We didn't have a reservation and there were four of us, so we thought we would have to wait, but we were immediately seated and even got a booth. We ordered a pitcher of Sapporo beer and 7 different rolls from the menu. The food arrived quickly and it was just right: delicious sushi, amazing variety and well prepared. Total price was very reasonable. I would definitely recommend and will come back in the near future despite a 30 minute drive.

Yelp
This place is a 10 out of 10 I'm surprised it's still in business I haven't been here in ages it's probably one of the sushi restaurants that we used to go to a lot when I was younger overall the food here is 10 out of 10 I remember going here a lot but it's been so long overall it's a delicious experience I can say I had most of the roll but one of these days need to come back and eat this place it's been ages

Fanny Shanteau ..

Yelp
Great service! The sushi is fresh and so delicious! And the price is reasonable. It can be a little noisy especially over the weekend but it is still worth it! I totally recommend giving it a try!
google avatar

Ha A.

Yelp
Decent. Nothing fancy. Good for groups and families. Friendly service. It looks like the place has tourists and locals alike. It was pretty crowded when I went. All in all, it was fine.
google avatar

Cheryl G.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance. Food is excellent, priced affordably and staff are very friendly. The lunch bento boxes are so delicious and the quality of the sushi is very fresh! A definite must try if you're in the area!

Jinna L.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. I would recommend the Umi Viking and YOLO Roll, Dragon Roll. The food was really good and very well priced. We were very happy with our experience.

Yelp
We had some real highs and some lows during our visit. We came here because we drive past it all the time, and did not research it properly. My bad on that. We wanted poke bowls, and asked the woman who seated us if they had them, and she said yes so we ordered some appetizers. But when our server came they indicated only a poke salad is available. I think we would have been ok with it, but the dressing was very bitter. I ended up just eating the seaweed and tuna, skipping the greens. The potstickers were not my favorite. We ordered them steamed and fried. They were a bit bland, and the dipping sauce seemed a little bland also. Two standout rolls, the spicy girl roll amd the umi house roll. Highly recommend. Also the garlic edamame were really good. Salmon teriyaki was tasty, too. My daughter ordered the salmon scallop roll without reading the ingredients. She doesn't like spicy foods, and again, that's on us for not paying attention. I don't like scallops so I couldn't taste it to get a real rating. Service was pretty good, but my husband's water glass came with a lipstick imprint In a lovely shade of pink. All things considered, I think there were good moments in the food. We had just come off a day of spirited sailing, so we were tired and hungry, and probably not firing on all cylinders. They have great reviews, so maybe this was an off night.
google avatar

Blythe L.

Yelp
Great sushi, fresh fish right off the inbound boats & a nice PL local vibe. Try the Umi house roll!
google avatar

Stefany C.

Yelp
I came here tonight for the first time with my kids. Cute little sushi restaurant near shelter island. We went later than usually for dinner around 8pm. We got seated right away. Service- professional, fast, and friendly. Food- delicious I ordered the shrimp crunch, Kevin roll, baked salmon roll, mixed tempura, miso soup, and chicken teriyaki plate. Everything was delicious. My favorite roll was the shrimp crunch. The teriyaki chicken was moist , tasty, and a large serving. Next visit , I'd like to try real sushi, and not all baked rolls. If you're in the area .. try them!

Jill D.

Yelp
This place has great food and amazing sushi. Best yellowtail I've ever had; it tasted like butter.
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
The food was great, and prices good. Serving size generous. Everything tasted fresh. Service was spot on too. Only potentially negative comment was my wife didn't care for the yellow tail amberjack, but she did enjoy the tuna and salmon sushi. She also didn't feel that the atmosphere was nice, but I didn't think it was bad and wouldn't let any doubt affect this review. My tuna poke salad was very good. I enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it to you and would come here again. If this review helped you, throw me a bone and give me a like, compliment or comment.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Sumi Sushi has a wonderful selection of Sushi of freshly made Sushi. I was really surprised the Sushi burrito was so good, the combinations of tuna, salmon, vegetables were great and the sauces were tasty. We had to wait for our cousin to arrive so it daleyed us in ordering, when she arrived and we were ready and the server passed by our table a couple of times and did not take our order. It was all worked out, they apologized and the service was exceptional! The booths are great! I could only imagine the scene of a rush crowd. Not sure if expansion would help; the space is so warm and comfortable.

Nancy M.

Yelp
Everything was perfect! From the service to the food. I wish we lived closer to this place but we will still drive the 50 mile round trip to dine again!

Yelp
First, I should say that I have never been to this place in person. I have ordered delivery three times. The first time, I got a combo of sushi and sashimi and very much enjoyed it all. The second time, I ordered a chirashi bowl, which was great, but they forgot the soup in the order. I really liked the freshness of the chirashi, sushi and sashimi. It was great to find a place that does a lot of great dishes with fresh fish rather than so many other spots that just do complicated rolls, and forget about the great taste of fresh fish alone. Well, a couple weeks ago, I decided that I wanted a chirashi bows and some miso soup. So, I decided to order the seafood miso along with my chirashi. My husband ordered a baked salmon roll and a different roll. Well, we ended up with two baked salmon rolls, and a chirashi bowl... no soup. Three orders, and two were wrong and missing items. I enjoy the food, but that's the last time I order out. I think if I ever eat there, I need to be present to see what actually ends up on my plate.
