Una Vida Tulum (Tulum, Riviera Maya) 6 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"With Tulum getting busier by the day, guests are increasingly looking for a bit of extra privacy and seclusion, and hoteliers, looking for space, are establishing hotels outside of the most obvious locations. Una Vida Tulum is one of these — set on a verdant piece of land to the west of the city center, where the rainforest meets the town, it’s a villa-style hotel, its rooms and suites clustered together in groups of two or three across the property." - Tablet Hotels

I stayed here for two nights with friends at the start of a work trip. The hotel was great value. The rooms are stylish, but fairly basic, really pleasant though with comfortable beds. All situated in the jungle area of Tulum. One call out/slight negative potentially is the location, whilst beautiful it is not in the main hotel area of Tulum and you probably need a bike or some form of transport to get to the beach as it’s a bit too far to easily walk and taxis are a complete rip off and expensive in Tulum. I didn’t actually visit the beach as Tulum currently has a massive problem with seaweed, which is covering most of the beach area, so it didn’t feel like a good idea. Instead we walked into the town for breakfast and then spent time relaxing by the beautiful pool at the sister hotel The Bardot. Whilst this is a ‘sister’ hotel it actually feels part of the same hotel and you simply walk for a couple of minutes on gravel paths through the beautiful garden to get to the pool. The pool is open 24hours and I actually swam about 5am on the first day as the jet lag kicked in. Amazingly relaxing just being on my own in the beautiful pool which is a decent size so you can swim lengths. |You have complete access to all The Bardot facilities, the bar and restaurant are really good with the service and standard of food high. Una Vida also has a nice pool. |The hotel staff were really great, they are super helpful organising a Taxi to meet us on arrival at Cancun airport etc. they communicate via WhatsApp and are happy to answer any question you have, very promptly. |Overall we had a great stay and I would definitely stay again if I was in Tulum.

Una Vida looks great on their website and they sent a really nice welcome text a few days before our arrival. When I was driving around trying to find the place the location is wrong by about a block in both Waze and Maps. This was no big deal and I would never ding a hotel for a simple mistake. The location was really pretty ugly, dirty and not someplace I would walk around.| When we pulled up a very sweet gentleman welcomed us with a smile and grabbed our luggage. It gets absolutely appalling the minute we walked into reception. | I said hello and the receptionist didn't look away from her computer and said "what can I do for you" no hello no welcome just a disgusted look on her face making sure we knew she didn't like us. Her next words were "there is a problem with your reservation and you owe $65 more. I said what for and she said "because she is Costa Rican and not Mexican......looking at my partner. I was instantly defensive and said BS and asked for the manager or owner......she called in front of us and was so rude in the way she told the person we wanted to talk with them. The next conversation was it just wasn't $65 but $65 additional each night......but we could just skip breakfast and not pay the additional if" THAT WOULD MAKE US HAPPY". My next words were" this does not feel good" and we left.||I put in a dispute with Amex and 2 days after Una Vida charged my card another $1250.00, I had to dispute this charge too. After 3 months both charges are now resolved in my favor. This whole this thing with Una Vida was a horrible experience, although i am truly so grateful. We ended up staying at the El Dorado on the beach, with kind wonderful employees, excellent food and even a few hundred dollars less.||If you do stay with Una Vida.....watch your back, don't leave anything in your car and check your cc statements, do this even if you have a good experience staying with them.

This place is awesome. The check in process was smooth. The rooms definitely will amaze you with the walkout swimming pools or Jacuzzis. The property is well maintained. There is 24 hour security. The price was good. I will return here for sure.

We stayed in the Jungle room which was beautiful! The reception was super attentive and all the staff was kind and welcoming. We had everything we needed. On our last day, the power went out twice but was restored right away. They checked in with us daily to see if we were enjoying our stay and booked taxis for us when needed. We also loved the included gym classes and access to the connected Hotel Bardo as well. Walking distance to town. Would definitely recommend!

We had the most amazing time at Una Vida and felt right at home ! the entire staff is incredibly friendly and is doing their best to make your stay as wonderful as it can be. A special thanks to Santos, Shio, Guadalupe and Martín (La Bardo)! We didn’t know that before, but you’re allowed to use the pool of the partner hotel La Bardo which was just under 5 min walk away and was just absolutely beautiful (no kids allowed). To our surprise Yoga and Pilates was also included and made our stay even more exquisite. The food and drinks are so good and absolutely worth every penny. The communication with the reception can be over whatsapp and they always replied in under 5 minutes and helped us even in situations outside of the hotel. This made everything super easy. The location was also perfect in my opinion. The main street is about a 10 min walk away with loads of restaurants and bars (Sole Cantina and Palma Central are a must go). All in all i would recommend (and already did to all our friends and family) this hotel over and over again. We will definitely be back and i honestly cannot wait for that. The only downside was, that the rooms were quite sound-sensitive, so we heard a lot of noises from the other rooms. Just bring earplugs ;) Muchas Gracias !! Jasmin & Dana

We were a family of 5 and stayed in the 3 bedroom villa. The villa was fantastic - every room had lots of space for my teenagers. |We loved the private pool in our villa and also enjoyed the main hotel pool. Everyone we dealt with at the hotel was fantastic and they had great advice on where to each and booked a tour to swim with the turtles and explore a cenote which we loved. Thank you Una Visa

The hotel was excellent clean and up to standards as seen in pictures online. Guatlope was very helpful my entire stay as with Fernando and many other staff names I can’t remember. I will definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to friends and family.

EDIT: I'm updating this review as I have recieved a refund for the incorrectly booked room. We have finished our stay here and really enjoyed it. The place is absolute luxury and the staff are incredibly nice. Would recommend it for anyone looking to escape for a few days. Only downside is it's quite expensive for things inside the hostel. Drinks and food are decent but cost over double what it costs to eat in other restaurants. Or for example, to rent a scooter from the hotel is 900mxn per day whereas a few minutes down the road it's 400mxn. Also there isn't a lot of space around the pools that get sunlight, especially when busy. Overall though the place is stunning and really well kept. ORIGINAL: I am so so disappointed in the service I have received from this hotel. I made a reservation for a room and noticed that the transaction was charged to my card twice. I immediately emailed the hotel to notify them that it happened and asked for the refund of one of the transactions. A few days later, they emailed back to say, due to their refund policy they are unable to refund the second transaction. They are unwilling to budge on this which is ridiculous as it seems to be an issue with the website, and even if it isn't, it's scummy behaviour to refuse to refund to refund an honest mistake.

Yelp
This was my first time in Tulum. I wanted to experience something closer to what a more "regular" hotel would be like or something closer to nature and the culture and people of the Tulum area. Service- Beyond excellence! Daniela and Jose at the front desk made sure all my needs were met from trying to find out how to get around to making a reservation for the beautiful Cenotes to reserving and getting a taxi! The staff at the restaurant served me well in terms of getting ice or serving and bringing breakfast to my room. The security guards were very friendly and helped me to get one of their bikes to ride around town. Rooms and ambiance- There was no fridge in my room and they are decorated well to match nature and gives you a sense of eco-friendliness. I had a outdoor patio where i would just sit out and enjoy the jungle and being in nature. Very green. Be sure to bring insect spray otherwise you will be left with many bug bites! There is a really nice outdoor pool and it's peaceful. location- quiet enough yet close enough to Centro, Tulum w/ all the shops and restaurants. I even went to a really cool barbershop (Barberos) that was close by and a 5 minute bike ride. Would recommend this hotel to everyone especially those who are more eco friendly conscious and want something unique and not the typical cookie cutter hotel stays!

Yelp
I stayed at Una Vida for my Honeymoon as I was looking for a hip, relaxing vibe, away from a resort feel. Una vida is exactly that. Small and intimate, all staff was friendly and trustworthy. Front desk was excellent (Ari was the best.) Communication was always open and available for all our needs. The hotel itself is everything you would dream of what Tulum is, earthy and greenery. The hotel pool is heated in which we loved for night swims. For our room: we stayed in the pool suite, we had our own pool (not heated.) There is an indoor and outdoor shower plus an outdoor tub! All were amazing. Food and drinks were excellent. The only thing is that it is about 18 minutes from the hotel/resorts and beach, thus, you have to plan to head out there. However, for my stay I was not looking for a beach adventure everyday so it was perfect. All in all, if you are looking for a relaxing intimate stay I would highly recommend.

Yelp
Stayed here for a friend's bachelorette party and thought it was great. The concierge got us everything from champagne to pedialyte when someone got sick. They helped us secure a van for the night, and they gave lots of suggestions for places to eat and drink. The pools were nice, though there were quite a few bugs in them and they were very warm. We didn't necessarily plan on spending time in the pool, so I was t super bothered by that. But it was a little unfortunate! There was also an issue with the doors / locks. We weren't able to lock the doors that led to our private pool (and there was a way to come in from outside). We asked for a key, and they told us they'd lock it for us. But when we got back it was still unlocked. That wasn't ideal as we were traveling with passports and other valuables. Other than that, I thought the place was really great. King beds mostly, multiple showers (including two that were mostly outside which I thought was pretty pleasant), AC in each room, and a large living area / kitchen island (we stayed in a three room house, so not sure what the regular rooms were like). All in all it was a great stay, and I definitely wouldn't mind heading back in the future.

Yelp
Rooms were fine but the prices and service fees that they add without asking are ridiculous. We dropped soda on our sheets and then after checkout, we needed to pay 75 USD for that. I would not recommend Una Vida hotel in Tulum.

Yelp
We stayed here for 2 nights, a few months before Covid shut down everything. We absolutely loved it! Out of the 4 places we stayed, this one was our favorite! The management was super nice, the rooms were super clean. And our neighbors were sweet as well! We definitely plan to come back and stay again!

Yelp
Myself and Melissa couldn't thank you guys enough for making our stay so pleasant. Your kind-heartedness and hospitality was extraordinary. Every single second of our stay at the una vida hotel was such a delightful experience . The drinks and food never disappointed . I want to give a shout out to Paola, our waitress , who always treated us with so much love , kindness and respect. She always had a beautiful smile and made us feel so welcomed and at home . Everything from the ambience to the esthetics around the hotel left us in complete aw. We loved it all ! Especially our room ! We can't wait to go back .

Yelp
Had the great opportunity to spend 2 nights at Bardot and 2 nights at Una Vida Tulum. Both are boutique and ultra chic "sister" resorts that are connected by a cute walkway but separate properties. Since they are equally amazing and sister properties, I am reviewing them together. FYI: I am a world traveler, so this is not the "first time" I'm visiting a beach resort or traveling. (Last year I was in Bhutan, India, Sweden, Berlin, Bordeaux, Barcelona, Rome, Formentera, Mexico City, LOs Angeles, NYC to name a few.) Food: The quality is amazing, fresh, healthy yet extremely exciting choices with an exotic twist. Cooked to perfection. Pool areas: Gorgeous and serene. Sublime. Period. Service: Very international, super attentive and nice, yet never annoying up selling or pest-like pampering. Overall: You feel like you are in the comfort of your own home -- if you need anything the staff is there for you but if you do not, you have can have total privacy. Both places are absolutely amazing. For sure this is the best in Tulum for the experience. It is now at top of my list for any future tropical / exotic getaway. Also, the crowd is relaxed and not ultra party like. A relaxing, extremely enjoyable atmosphere. There is also the opportunity for in-house local Mayan experiences like the detoxifying Temazcal , Sound Healing etc. Will be back soon! Don't miss out. Either of both properties are a must visit.

Yelp
EXCELLENT! the moment we arrived i was blown away by the charm of this hotel. Centrally located in downtown but in a small oasis where it was super quiet and relaxing. The rooms were simple, clean, had amazing ameneties and a view. The common pool area was also incredible. I would stay here over and over again! Staff are super nice and helpful! Also loved their doggies!

Yelp
This review is only pertaining to my reservation and their communication. The original credit card that the reservation was booked under was lost and I had to order a new one. So when they tried to take the payment it would not go through and I was contacted by the manager Hassan. At the time I could not give him my card information because I was in an Uber so I told him that I would reach back out to him in about 30 minutes. This was on Tuesday and I have been trying to get in contact with someone about my reservation so that I can make the payment. Everyone keeps telling me we will figure out and get back with you but no one has gotten back with me with any information. My trip is coming up on 28 October and this is really bothering me because I do not want to go on the trip and then find out that I do not have a reservation. I have been pleading with them through the WhatsApp and still to no avail am I being given any information. This is extremely frustrating! Communication should be better, not to mention that you cannot call this hotel is a huge issue. Even when calling from the WhatsApp I still can not get anyone to pick up the phone. I wish I could give this place five stars, but the lack of communication on their end is very troublesome.

Yelp
Una Vida is a dreamlike paradise, romantic and cozy. I would highly recommend this place and I would return over and over again! The aesthetics are EVERYTHING.

Yelp
Terrible place to stay! They have authorized their employees to shoot at "Suspicious" people. The owner told me that they have been robbed & assulted several times in the past month. So beware, & be scarred! If the Owner has to shoot innocent people who want to enter the Hotel, they must have real issues with security, you could get shot at! Don't look suspicious... This is example of management disconnect with it's client's as well. I've read many responses to clients on Trip Advisor & all management has to say is "You're Wrong". What happened to Hospitality business. That could be you on the other end of the stick & being told No, you're wrong from the owner. I really wanted a place to recommend to people, but instead I got shot at 3 times to my back! Suggestions to the owner. Retrain your staff to ask questions first & resolve the issue without violence or shooting at people ! The Tulum way!

Yelp
We stayed in the private villa and it was gorgeous. Very spacious, clean, and it had a lovely outdoor area with a private pool. The property has a public pool, a restaurant, and outdoor eating area. It's full service so they also deliver to your room or villa. The food is really yummy, and the service is top notch. Shout out to Paola who took excellent care of us during our stay, as well as all of the restaurant and front desk staff! 10/10.
