The People's Republic of Berkley doesn't lack for serious pizza satisfaction. The city has more pizza joints than nearly anything else at the moment. What differentiates Uncle Andy's from the upscale Amici's or the Little Caesar's drive thru? Well, if you need help answering that, please make sure to visit all of Berkley's fine establishments.
Uncle Andy's is good, unpretentious pizza. When you want a pie to go or you're starved after watching that umpteenth game on the high school field, swing by for a place that is rarely packed to the rafters (except on game days) and almost never busy. Situated on the corner of Catalpa and Coolidge, this is a favourite haunt for high schoolers looking for a different lunch alternative and local families, who have been ordering from here forever.
What keeps them coming back? Good pizza, plain and simple. (Or fancy and delicious.) Sure, the competition around it is fierce but you can't sit down and dine in at Jet's if you want to. Amici's is a local watering hole of outstanding quality -- therefore busy. And "come as you are" is a friendly environment that welcomes grandparents down to toddlers in style.
You can get more than pizza. Of course there are wings and breadsticks, all the paraphernalia of a fun Friday night with the family. No matter what your age, the supreme pizza is hard to go wrong with. Modifications for how crispy you want your crust or how much of a molten puddle of zcheese you need is absolutely a welcome thing. No problem! Ooey gooey or baked firm, the pie is going to make a smile come to your face. And better still, you aren't paying too much for a simple meal.
I generally come down as a stickler on pizza crusts. Hi, former Chicagoan here; I'm entitled to my opinion and you yours. Can't stand casserole-like deep dishes or cracker crusts, neither of which are a problem at Uncle Andy's. You get a good amount of chew and savour, and the ingredients are quality.
