"Uncle Bill’s Pancake House is a safe space for the person who always orders pancakes for the table. The breakfast spot has been a beach tradition since it first opened in Stone Harbor in the early ‘60s, and nowadays, the Avalon cafe is one of seven locations along the coast from Ocean City to Cape May. Come for basic (but very good) buttermilk pancakes, or a version made with Iowa corn, or flapjacks speckled with chocolate chips or topped with all manner of fruit. Go with your whole group, or sneak out of the house before everyone else wakes up to order a couple of short stacks “for the table.” " - regan stephens, sydney mcelwee, candis mclean

The place was empty so we thought the service would be good, nope. When we asked for more coffee the waitress acknowledged our request then never came back. We had to get our own coffee and then find the waitress to get some ketchup. You would think that for $90.00 for 3 breakfasts they would have been more attentive.

Not busy but service was slow. Blonde and brunette sat in a booth most of the time instead of working. $87 for 3 ppl to eat a diner breakfast . Breakfast potatoes were not good-tasted like butter - pancakes were average. Waitress did not come back to refill coffee after asking multiple times. We got up to retrieve the coffee ourselves.

Food, service and atmosphere were all great, BUT a “to go” fee of $3.75 for an already overpriced sandwich is a little outrageous…and that fee was added for EACH sandwich to go. So you’re telling me if I ordered 4 sandwiches to go I'm paying almost $20 to take them to go? I should have ordered the sandwiches and asked for a to go box! What the hell.

Fast service. No wait for us at 9 am Saturday. I had the eggs Benedict. One of the poached eggs was hard, but it didn’t really matter because everything tasted really good. The home fries were great. My husband also enjoyed his waffle. Tasted like an apple pie.

We had heard great reviews from several friends about Uncle Bill's, so we had to try it out today while visiting Avalon. Sadly we were disappointed. We got takeout because their website said they were only open for outside seating (and it was 38 degrees today), but when my husband picked up the food there were people sitting inside. If we had known that we would have gone in-person. Anyway, there were four of us eating - my husband and I, and our 3 and 5 year olds. They had no kids menu, so we ordered strawberry pancakes, french toast, stuffed french toast, and bacon/sausage sides. The french toast was super sad looking. It was literally just two pieces of sandwich bread with some cinnamon. The pancakes didn't have any strawberries inside of them, only sliced on top (which looks pretty, but that's not what we ordered). Plus the pancakes themselves were really bland. My husband's stuffed french toast consisted of two pieces of the sad french toast with a little cinnamon creme stuffing. He was still hungry after eating it (and he's not a big guy). I wouldn't have been all that upset if we hadn't paid $63 dollars for bland diner food. Our family has gone out to eat at places like Turning Point or First Watch for way better food, more of it, and less money. I really wanted to like this place because I love family owned and operated places rather than chains, but the food was super bland and REALLY expensive for what you get.

29NOV2024 - So we’re down at the shore for Thanksgiving and we decided to pop into Uncle Bill’s for breakfast. Everything was fine until the two high school age hostesses sat an older gentlemen with his granddaughter. Once the one sat them down she turned as the other girl was bringing the high chair over and just started smirking/laughing in a disrespectful manner. I thought the level of unprofessionalism and disrespect was very distasteful, and enough for me not to bother with this establishment again. I did mention this to the gentleman working the cash register, who the two girls were standing next to when I went to pay. Hopefully they at least get a stern talking to.

Came here during October before a wedding. The food cane out fast and was really good. There were 7 of us and none of the orders were messed up and we all changed at least one thing about our orders! Amazing service and good food!

Google
Good breakfast joint at a reasonable price. Crepes with hot apples & veggie omelet both were tasty and well prepared. Wait staff all by college students and was OK. Seats near back are noisy as there’s no kitchen door.

Yelp
Kind of floored that this place doesn't have consistent five star reviews. These are hands-down, the best pancakes you will ever have. Nowhere will you find pancakes that taste like this. I'm also seeing a lot of complaints about the pricing. Yeah, welcome to Stoneharbor/Avalon. It's expensive down here lol. I can only assume it's a lot of tourists (Shoobies) that aren't used to the area and what comes with it. Granted, do I think it's a little nuts to pay $9.00 dollars for two eggs? Yeah I'm not going to knock the reviews on that. Especially when you can go get a dozen eggs for half price at the store. I myself am guilty of ordering something here and then seeing the bill wondering why I even bothered ordering that lol. But the pancake prices are kind of what you get for a specialty pancake house that you don't get anywhere else. So skip the eggs, get the pancakes, and you'll be right as rain

Yelp
Decent breakfast place. Had eaten at the one in Wildwood years ago and knew what to expect when having to stay in Avalon for a dance competition. We enjoyed breakfast so much we would up eating here 3x during the week. The French toast was delicious and every time I asked for my bacon well done, it was. We enjoyed the hashbrowns (both varieties). My waffle was lackluster. I was expecting a Belgian waffle for $16 and what I got was just a regular waffle. Waste of money. My daughter enjoyed the Wild Bill's special for $14 which included 2 eggs, 3 silver dollar pancakes, a breakfast meat and a drink. We ate outside all 3 times, and two times my coffee was brought out in cardboard cups. The other time it was a regular mug. If we come back next year for dance comp, we will definitely return to Uncle Bill's for a quality breakfast!

Yelp
We enjoyed our breakfast here. Lots of tables so there was no wait for breakfast during the week in June. I had the pecan and banana pancakes. They were fabulous! I got a side of bacon. It was cooked crisp the way I like it. Really good. There is plenty to pick from on the menu. Something for everyone. Service was good. I only gave it 4 stars because it was pricey. 50 dollars for the 2 of us to have breakfast. Yikes!

Carolyn F.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was in the womb lol. Love the pancakes. Always cold inside now though. Bacon was not great this time and my bf commented that his chocolate chip pancakes should be on a separate plate with NO butter on top. Very good toast. The rye was delicious.

Darren G.

Yelp
Uncle Bill's has the world's best pancakes! Service is great and fast. Great breakfast place down the shore. The bacon is amazing too. Just order pancakes and bacon crispy...you can't go wrong. They have gluten free bread and pancakes too which is awesome.

Dan D.

Yelp
Breakfast is consistent. Service is always excellent. Prices are through the roof!! $71 for 2 adults and 2 kids for breakfast without tip.

Fjames R.

Yelp
Breakfast is always good, place is clean ,people are friendly, food was good big place, outside seating, plenty of parking big menu, fast and easy

Michelle F.

Yelp
Uncle Bill's is a Jersey shore staple! It has a simple diner look with a family feel. All the servers are friendly and fast. The omelettes are huge and delicious. There are a bunch of combos or you can make your own. I got the seasonal special - turkey sausage, spinach and provolone cheese. The pancakes are obviously a must try! They aren't very thick but, they are very fluffy! There are a tonnnn of flavors from cinnamon raisin to peanut butter. I got seasonal pumpkin pancakes to go with my omelette and left very happy and satisfied!

Joe C.

Yelp
Always consistently great food. The service is fast and efficient. Bill O'Hara personally ensures that each location is immaculate. We enjoy waiting in line and people-watching until it's our turn for service. Enjoy.

Cynthia C.

Yelp
This had to be the worst breakfast and most expensive I have ever had. So disappointing. Got pancakes and scrapple. The pancakes were spo flat and thin; not much thicker then a crepe. Buttermilk pancakes are meant to be fluffy. Then let's go to the over priced pure maple syrup. Highly over priced for the amount you get. If you stack two small reese cup(snack size) on top of each other that is the amount of syrup that you get. Not to mention it was not top quality maple syrup; definitely not Grade A dark amber. Now, for the scrapple, for the price you pay you only get one thin slice; it was cooked well however should have been at least two slices. The place was very clean and the waitress was nice.; as well as serve being fast. The hostess was also nice; however I do feel she was not dressed appropriately. Wearing skin tight work out pants that rode up her butt cheeks. Will never be go back. The pricer for two people with the exact same meal was $53.00 with out the tip. This was just ridiculous for the amount of food we got. Don't mind paying for good food; but this just wasn't it.

Yelp
Uncle Bill's, popular for breakfast at the Jersey Shore as there are multiple locations, fulfills its purpose. The no-frills menu won't excite you the way you get excited for fancy-shmancy bottomless mimosa brunch. When you're skipping town and you need a place to get your fill before a long drive home, Uncle Bill's will come through. The food is very average - as average as eggs come. Forget the iced coffees and cappuccinos - you want coffee? It comes in an Uncle Bill's branded paper cup and you can feel free to add a sugar packet and mini creamer, strewn about on the table when the waiter sets down your cup. I can't complain about wait time-again, it's pretty average for a diner. But I DO think it's weird that my omelette didn't come with home fries, just toast. MOST diners provide both. Also, Future Husband notes that they should give you TWO eggs on the #34 combo dish. He didn't even get toast! I had to give him mine. Naturally, I got my Greek omelette with egg whites. I asked for it well done, but it certainly was not well done and came out surrounded by a watery moat of tomato juice and oil. I did think the amount of feta was satisfactory though - it wasn't overloaded, and I can appreciate that. I think I've had better omelettes at all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, but let's just take this for what it is: Bill's with no frills.

Yelp
Here for breakfast and had no wait to be seated on a Sat morning around 9am. Place was pretty busy and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Menu is your standard breakfast fare with pancakes, waffles, eggs, and French toast, with varieties like Strawberry pancakes, Banana nut pancakes, etc. They had a special of butterscotch waffles which both my son and I got. There was also several gluten-free options for my wife. Overall, food was good and we all enjoyed our breakfast. My only disappointment was in the service. Took awhile to get our drinks and I downed my initial cup of coffee pretty quick. I asked for a refill when our food was delivered, but that took awhile and then she forgot the creamer. I had several times for creamer and it never came out. The nice people sitting next to us eventually asked if we wanted their creamer as they didn't need it. I also ordered a side of bacon with my breakfast that did not initially come out, so I asked about that. I had to ask two more times and it finally came out about 10 minutes after I had finished my breakfast. Part of the issue was they seemed short staff. Our waitress was running around trying to wait on quite a few tables, so it wasn't completely her fault. We would still come back and hopefully the service will be a bit better.

Brady S.

Yelp
Small portions for the price. Staff was not very friendly either. I don't plan to go back.

Nina C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times many moons ago, before I yelped anything. So, here I finally do a review. This place is very well known around this area. They're only open till 1, with also serving lunch - obviously for the shortest time. It's not cheap nor expensive, sort of in between. They do have all kids working there, but I have to say our waiter was really great. He knew the menu well, because many questions were asked at my table. I wasn't a fan of their home fries, some places make it differently and theirs were just "square-like" potatoes. It wasn't that great. The hot sauce they carry is delicious, but not hot. I can't drink milk and they do have Almond Milk. The one thing my dad complained about is that they need smaller spout for the bottle - if that's all he complained about, since he's a tough critic, this place is doing great. There is only street parking at this location. We came at 10:30 on a summer Friday morning, with no wait, but many other times I've come here earlier, and waited a very, very long while. I would definitely spend my hard earned money here each time I visit the Jersey shore!

Faith M.

Yelp
Service was good. Food was just ok. It seemed they missed the ingredient to make the waffles and pancakes nice and fluffy The potatoes were saggy and over seasoned.

Kristin M.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly staff, fast service, and very clean. The menu has a lot of options to choose from which is nice. I would definitely go back.

Sal B.

Yelp
Pancakes are always the best. Hot light fluffy and tasty always a must when in Avalon

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Good breakfast spot. There are a few in town, but all seem to have the same good service and food. The pancakes are very good and they have several different kinds. We also had eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and creamed chipped beef which seems like a local favorite. Overall, it's nothing overly special, just a local breakfast spot. We enjoyed our meal and would go back if in the area.

Neil B.

Yelp
Uncle Bill's has been an Avalon institution for a good breakfast. With the closure of Brians, only the Fishing Pier grill competes for the Avalon breakfast business. If you need any evidence of price inflation snd portion deflation look no further than Bill's. Coffee, 2 omelets with toast and bacon, blueberry pancakes and bacon was $73 plus tip. The omelets were small and probably less that 2 eggs. Well prepared and delicious but much smaller than last year. Bill's hires the nicest young ladies as servers and they try very hard. The food came out quickly and hot. The coffee was good. Jelly was not on the table and must be requested. With the addition of outdoor seating the number of tables probably increased by 30% or more. On a nice day it's enjoyable to sit at one of the picnic tables outside. We always enjoy breakfast at Uncle Bill's and will be back again but be ready for some sticker shock.

Bill B.

Yelp
Always busy Good selection but a little slanted towards pancakes. Tough for a guy who doesn't eat pancakes. Chocolate chip pancakes were really good according to my son. I had the 7 mike breakfast. Eggs over easy came out eggs over hard but the bacon was really good. Fresh shredded hash browns were very good. I already order an extra side of those.

Sandra G.

Yelp
We were planning to go to Uncle Bill's in Cape May, but it was closed so we went to the one in Avalon. They were so good. I ordered the Will's special (eggs benedict and home fries) and my husband ordered oatmeal with fruits. The food was great, the waiter was polite and pleasant. If i live here, i'd definitely order everything on the menu.

Jerry H.

Yelp
The food is usually good at Uncle Bills. Unfortunately one waitress (older woman with short hair) there ruined the whole meal. For starters she was very rude and very unwelcoming. She seemed immediately annoyed that we were even there or that she was our server. Then to top it off she drags the table rag across my food. Not a care in the world. Extremely disappointing experience. When someone handling your food makes you feel this way it is not OK. Won't return there as long as she is working there.

Ann F.

Yelp
Uncle Bill's is known for great service. I should say "WAS" known. Today, the service was awful. We were seated right away. We sat for about 10 minutes and no server acknowledged us. My husband had to get up and ask the "manager" for some coffee. She bbrought over cups, poured coffee, explained that someone would help us shortly and that there was only one server on until 8 AM. We sat for about another 5 minutes and finally a waitress took our order. Then we sat for a long time. Because this restaurant has a somewhat open kitchen, you could see the plates of food lined up ready to be delivered to the tables. My husband again signaled for the manager to which she replied, "Do you need something?" He pointed out that there were meals ready to be delivered and the one server could use some help. She replied "Fine. I'll get someone to help her." She then sat down at a booth with about 4 other servers and it was obvious that she was talking about us. How did I know? Because they kept looking over at our table. Yes, I teach at a middle school so I know this behavior. To add insult, the servers at the table were enjoying their breakfast, yawning, putting their head down on the table, etc. Finally our food was delivered and it was not warm. The butter was not even melted on our toast. We ate a bit, waited another inordinate amount of time, and asked for our check. As my husband paid, the male cashier asked how everything was, and my husband truthfully replied that it was not good, but said to the cashier "But you were busy having breakfast.". The cashier said, 'I'm not a server." As we exited the restaurant, the female manager yelled "Have a nice day!!!" in a tone that was certainly not friendly. We've gone to Uncle Bill's in Avalon since we were very young....safe to say 40+ years. That was our last visit. Please go to Isabel's, Fishin' Pier Grille, Wawa, stay home, or consider intermittant fasting.

Mary G.

Yelp
Great food and service. Welcoming atmosphere. Uncle Bills has been in Avalon for many years and I hope it is here to stay

Robin G.

Yelp
Typical NJ diner food, nothing to get too overwhelmed about - but a decent option in Avalon for a quick breakfast. I will say, the pancakes are really awesome - light and fluffy, and unadulterated simple goodness. I tried a bite of the corn pancakes - which were surprisingly delicious! I, myself ordered a sausage omelette- which, I had to admit I was slightly disappointed in. The eggs and the sausage were clearly cooked separately, and rolled up (almost like a wrap?) before serving. Overall, the food is decent, not bad at all. Coffee is pretty good for a diner. But the best part is probably how quick the service is. The food (for 4 people) was out in under 5 minutes! Which is probably more about the over-prepped aspect of the food, versus making it to order.

Ashley S.

Yelp
Every small town has a beloved breakfast spot that caters to everyone from families after church to friends after a night out to beach goers fueling up for a day on the sand. Uncle Bill's is that special landmark in Avalon! My cousin rented out the restaurant for a post-wedding breakfast farewell and Uncle Bill's handled everything amazingly. We packed into booths, guzzled coffee, shared stories from the night before and chomped down on some amazing pancakes. The staff did a great job keeping up with 75+ guests! The environment is casual and cozy. I loved the nostalgic seaside branding, including the "Aunts and Uncles" bathroom signs and retro diner mugs. The food? Awesome. I tried the blueberry pancake, chocolate chip pancake, buckwheat pancake and side of bacon. All tasty. Highly recommend hosting a post-wedding breakfast at Uncle Bill's if you're hosting a wedding on the Shore. The only downside? I wish we had a place like since Bill's in Santa Monica!

Mark R.

Yelp
Always busy- great sign for a restaurant! Fast service, friendly waitress and really good fresh made food. The waffles were fluffy and the hash browns perfect. Our egg white omelet was tasty too!

Chloe M.

Yelp
Fastest service I've ever had! Delicious non-dairy milk and great outdoor seating. The blueberry pancakes were very good and the pork roll egg and cheese sandwich was incredible! Great ingredients and atmosphere.

Karen L.

Yelp
A staple at the shore. This place delivers that stand diner like breakfast. Nothing spectacular or innovative but just good and hearty breakfast food. Our server was charismatic and efficient. Coffee never went lower than a 1/2 cup. Delish!

Brady R.

Yelp
I've been coming to Uncle Bill's prior to me even entering the Yelp game so this review has been a long time coming. This joint always has a lot of people waiting for tables especially in the Summer. Luckily, the service here is fast so they get you in and out pretty quickly and turn tables rapidly. If you are looking for a classic American breakfast, then this is the place for you. In the 8 years I have been coming here, I have never once had a bad meal. I usually either order pancakes or a Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese on a plain bagel. This time I opted for the THEC on a bagel and it was exactly what I needed to kick off my Sunday. Now this isn't the best Taylor Ham/Pork roll sandwich you'll ever have but it gets the job done. Usually the sandwich comes with chips but I upgraded to Home Fries and they were light & crisp which is exactly how I like them. The coffee here has that diner style taste which always hits different when you're out to eat. All in all, it was another home run by the team here. A trip down the shore isn't complete without hitting up Uncle Bills!

Bumax L.

Yelp
Uncles Bills is good but expensive. They have a nice selection of breakfast items and lunch. The coffee use to be really good and hot. We wish they would stop watering down the coffee. It is almost like drinking medium hot so so coffee. We like a good cup or two of coffee in the morning and want it hot when it comes to the table.

Rob S.

Yelp
Nothing fancy but all around this place is quite good. The food comes out hot and fresh, and the service is always warm and welcoming. Uncle Bills continue's to offer a consistently pleasant dining experience year after year. Great for families of all sizes, especially those with children.

Diana B.

Yelp
Uncle Bill's in Avalon is the best place for Breakfast. The food is good and the service is outstanding. Good beginning to any day. Plus they are open all year round.

Tom L.

Yelp
I am so over this place. $100 with tip for 6 guys ordering eggs, pancakes and shitty coffee. French pancakes sound delicious with strawberry preserves, right? 3 thin and bone dry pancakes show up with powdered sugar and two packets of Smuckers strawberry packets....how the heck does that sound? For $7.25. What a joke. Take the minor detour and go to Court House Diner Family Restaurant.

Joseph V.

Yelp
When I was younger, we used to stop and eat breakfast here before traveling home from our vacation in Stone Harbor. Every year, I begged my parents not to go, as me and the food did not get along. They would always ignore me, as my other siblings were quite fond of Uncle Bill's for some odd reason. The last year I went, I order some sausage and eggs. Hard to get down, but the worst was yet to come. Lets just say my meal returned on the car ride home. My family and I never dined here again. I didn't eat sausage for a decade. I feel disgusted to give this place even a single star. This place ruined the breakfast experience for me until late in High School. It is absolutely putrid and vile. DON'T EAT HERE.

Bradford G.

Yelp
Love UB's for breakfast, my favorite of the Avalon spots. Buckwheat pancakes are the best, bacon is nice and smokey, coffee is good. Real maple syrup! The interior is a bit sterile, the prices ridiculous. Lots of room and tabels for large groups. Note it's cash only. Steak house? I don't think so. Pancake house? Definitely. Get a booth, bring the paper and do the crosswords, drink 8 cups of coffee, discuss the day and hang out for an hour, then go walk it off on the beach.

Brian D.

Yelp
My grandmom couldn't even cook pancakes that good. Breakfast hit the spot. Definitely recommend.

Helen O.

Yelp
Yum! Once seated and after placing an order, those cakes come out in about 7 minutes. Pancakes are very light, but the sausage is AMAZING! My grandson let me share one bite. Next time, that it all I am getting. Wow!

Virginia S.

Yelp
My husband and went to breakfast service was okay my egg was over cooked my husband ordered French toast don't think they dip the brea in egg batter seems they put the bread on grill needless tosay we did not come backthenext day after

Bob H.

Yelp
Stopped in uncle bills while on vacation recently and as always, we weren't disappointed. I'm a huge fan of this place, I've been coming here since I was a kid. Upon arrival the place was busy as normal. We were sat immediately. My wife and I both love the Ellis brand coffee from Philadelphia. My wife ordered the oatmeal, daughter had the dollar pancakes with sausage. I ordered the apple pancakes with scrapple. That was a first for me and I was shocked at how good they were. The apple filling was sweet but not too sweet. I didn't even need syrup. I've always been a big fan and I think uncle bills has the best pancakes around. The oatmeal was also good, a bit thick but still good. My only complaint would probably be the price. That's why they lose a star. I know it's the shore and a vacation spot but for breakfast it's a bit pricey. Total for 3 was $44.00. Other than that it was great. I'm sure we will be back.. Solid 4 stars

Dennis A.

Yelp
Went there for breakfast today, there was a wait which was fine during a holiday weekend. Aloe got a seat and ordered the pancakes were good but my wife's egg sandwich and my eggs Benedict were probably the worst I've ever had. They microwaved both our egg portions for sure usually with eggs Benedict porched eggs are runny... not here completely cooked and the sauce was def not fresh, ham was not even seared. I won't be back here again Brian's is way better.

Melissa K.

Yelp
We always go here before we leave vacation. This was our first year with a baby and Chris, our server, was outstanding! He checked in the perfect amount of times, was friendly and super accommodating. Food was great, service was on point. Love this location!

Erin K.

Yelp
I have to say I am really surprised by some of the reviews. If you go on a Saturday or Sunday during the summer time expect to wait for a table - but it always moves relatively quickly. If you love breakfast foods, particularly pancakes, this is the place to hit up. Been coming to uncle bills since I was a kid - it's an institution if you are a south jersey beach goer.

Kathleen S.

Yelp
Eggs over easy were cooked pretty hard. There was a three dollar up-charge to have French fries instead of home fries. The toast was barely toasted not warm enough for the butter to melt. The pork roll was burnt to a crisp. The shredded hash brown portion was huge, piled high over half the plate, which probably means they were sitting around too long and the cook wanted to dispose of them (tasted that way too.) There was absolutely nothing to like about this breakfast that would make me want to return a second time. At $38 for two adults I consider this a lesson learned the hard way.

Siobhann H.

Yelp
All I can say is Yum!! Pancakes and bacon were delicious. My son had eggs sausage and pancakes. One of the few times he was quiet!! The waitress was very sweet and attentive. We will be back!!

Jane V.

Yelp
Quick service - took 5 min to get seated on a Sunday late morning, and must have taken 5 min (or less even!) to get our food brought out! About average breakfast food, but really, can you ever go wrong with eggs? Cost is pretty average for this area - higher than normal, but that's expected ($60/3 ppl here vs $40/3 ppl at Cracker Barrel - same amount of food). Pretty, preppy people everywhere I turn... kinda like a flashback to my Villanova days. But like everyone else seems to say, I guess its a staple of the jersey shore.

Alex F.

Yelp
I'll reiterate what other Yelpers are saying, this place is most definitely not a place for steak OR cake, but it is certainly a great beach breakfast-- even when there's snow on the ground. From what I hear Uncle Bill's is packed to the brim with people just about every day of the week during the summer months, but even in early January when I visited, it was surprisingly busy. While they were easily able to accommodate our large group within a few minutes this past weekend, if it was peak season the wait would have been out the door. As it's true name suggests, Uncle Bill's is famous for it's pancakes-- buttermilk, chocolate chip, strawberry, blueberry, peanut butter-- you name it, they've got it. They also offer reasonably priced combos so you can try a little bit of everything (your choice of pancakes, eggs, a meat, etc.) for under $10. The atmosphere was probably better than the food itself-- even over New Year's weekend, I could imagine the Main Street outside being filled with beachers in the summer months. I have to admit however, I almost knocked this review down to three stars after my fellow diners overheard the conversations of a few waitresses while we were leaving. Though they had been helpful during our meal (although not very friendly), as we were leaving they made loud, apparent comments on the lack of tip our group had left. I'm not sure what the regulars in Avalon are tipping these young ladies, but as a former waitress I don't think I'd ever complain about $23 on $90 (25%). While this is no reason to knock a star off the review of such a great local establishment, it is enough to make me wonder about returning in the future.

Yelp
I've never heard anyone refer to this Avalon staple as "Uncle Bill's Cake & Steak House." It's just "Uncle Bill's Pancake House," people! But regardless of the name, nothing captures the spirit of the Jersey Shore better than Uncle Bill's. Hordes of families flock to the booths of this island mainstay from the wee hours of the morning to the early afternoon to order from their renown breakfast menu. You'll find rows of bikes lined up outside, the town paper boy peddling the Inquirer for $1, and a basket of dum-dum lollipops at the counter for the kiddies. Quaint, hectic, delicious, and consistent for years and years. You can never go wrong with a 1b. (banana pancakes) or my favorite, the Iowa Corn pancakes. Get a glass of whole milk and a side of bacon to cover all your flavor profiles and you're set for a day of sandcastle building, boogie boarding, and mini-golf. Cash only :)

Yelp
Erin R. speaks the truth, it's called "Uncle Bill's Pancake House"... you definitely do not want to get cake or steak here. I've been going to UB's Pancake House since I was a baby. Up until my teen years my family went to the rundown location in Stone Harbor on 96th Street. The overcrowded feeling and screaming children were always expected but never really seemed to bother anyone. That is, until, we started going to the cleaner more sophisticated UB's Pancake House in Avalon. The tables are spread out and you and your family don't feel like a herd of cattle at feeding time forced to scarf down your grub as quick as cowly possible. The food is good. 1B, banana pancakes, is my choice. I'm usually one to try new things but 1B suits me well and in the rare occasion that I do go to "Bill's" I want something I know I will enjoy, 1B does the trick ! But the menu offers all types of typical breakfast cuisine and some unique pancakes like oatmeal raisin pancakes or corn pancakes. You can't go wrong with the pancakes. The prices go up every year, which is expected because of the affluent Jersey Shore locations and the fact that vacationers will always go there as a staple go-to breakfast location. As a local, living there many summers in a row, I have a hard time throwing down $7.50 for some hot cakes and another $3.00 for a large chocolate milk. But, it is a nice treat from time to time. Only 4 stars because of one experience when my 1B tasted like shit... don't worry, we let the waitress know without verbal restraint
