Google
Excellent food- I like they cook it to order. Their egg rolls are some of the best I’ve had. I like to support local and as a bonus it’s right by my house.

Sanjuanita Reyna

Google
Ordered a small portion of beef and broccoli but received mostly onions and carrots with just a few pieces of meat. The fried rice and overall dish were pretty bland—lacked seasoning and flavor. Disappointed with the quality.

The Gadson

Google
Very small Chinese/Thai restaurant. Mom and pop feel that would be best suited for take out because of very few tables and no public restrooms. Had the Jalapeno Chicken 1/2 order with steamed rice. Very good flavors with fresh vegetables that pop.

JEFFREY KIDNEIGH

Google
The staff was polite. A full order of pepper shrimp includes 7 shrimp and the rest vegetables. honestly that serving could have been inside a smaller container. Food was okay. Sesame looked and tasted like something else. We won't be back ever. Panda express is a better option.

Google
Good food but if you are looking for authentic Oriental food this is not the place. We ordered orange chicken and jalepeno chicken both with friend rice and two veggie egg rolls. Jalepeno chicken was very good 5⭐ for that. Orange chicken and egg rolls were definitely frozen stuff I could have probably bought at the store and made myself 1⭐. Fried rice was ok but no eggs or veggies what kind of fried rice doesn't have eggs and veggies 3⭐ Would still rather eat here and support a small business than a big chain

Google
Food was excellent but the service was horrible. Bad attitude from girl with glasses, no smile with flat effect. Bad for customer service

Google
First time trying out this food. It is delicious!! The man at the window was very nice and very professional... Will be my place for close by Chinese food!!

Google
I absolutely love the Pat Thai dish 🤤 with a side of fried rice 🍚

Yelp
So far.... Uncle Chien's has my vote as the Best Chinese food in Lubbock. They make everything to order (except steamed rice) and you can customize any dish. Their combination fried rice comes as a generous portion, not overly salty or over seasoned. Garlic chicken is the bomb diggity. They also have the GOOD homemade hot mustard. They also offer Thai dishes on their menu. Which I'm most anxious to try.

Yelp
Absolutely GREAT!!! We come to Lubbock once a month and ALWAYS get take out here. Uncle Chien's never disappoints. Large servings, great taste and good prices. I went for the Kung Pao Shrimp, while my wife got Pad Thai. A big recommendation for the Hawaiian Chicken and the. Orange Chicken. This place ROCKS!!!

Yelp
I'm not Thai, but I know Thai food. In Texas; Houston and San Antonio have many authentic tasting Thai food restaurants where the Pad thai take me back to being in my stepmoms kitchen or my time spent in Thailand, but this pad thai I was served here is nothing like pad thai; very disappointed in the taste and quality of ingredients. Bottom line; if you love authentic tasting Thai food I would skip trying Uncle Chien's

Gabriella M.

Yelp
I had the best experience with Uncle Chien's. They are the friendliest people I have encountered in a while, it was so refreshing. My food was yummy and not too expensive at all like some Chinese can be. It's hard to find good Chinese in this town but I will be ordering from Uncle Chien's moving forward. Give them your support, they deserve it!

Yelp
I would just say the food was okay. We got the General Tso's and sweet and sour chicken. We were expecting left overs but that didn't happen. The Generals was alright. It wasn't what we were really expecting. It had flavor but wasn't all the impressive. Same with the Sweet and Sour. The vegetables with the general's also weren't that impressive. I thought the rice and egg rolls were quite good, however. Finally, it was priced well and was quick.

Kristin M.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We ordered two pad Thai, garlic beef, orange chicken and fried dumplings. Generous portions and quality food.

Laila G.

Yelp
mid. Food was bland, had little to no taste. General Tso chicken, barely had any sauce. if You have a craving for Chinese food, don't go here; you'll be disappointed.

Rowan N.

Yelp
Is this an eggroll? Because it really looks more like half of an eggrolll or more like a quarter
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
This is my go-to for good chinese in Lubbock. Their cheese won-tons are perfect. I also got a beef egg roll, general tso chicken, lo mein noodles, and broccoli beef. All the food was exactly what I wanted. I love that they have half portions so that I can try several menu items when getting take-out. I've heard they also have groupons that makes the price even more reasonable. I didn't feel like it was too expensive when I went, but I am going to try the groupon next time.

Yelp
This business has been around for decades. My husband has fond memories of eating here when he was a college student in Lubbock. We ordered dinner for my daughter and they delivered it to her in the dorm. When I called, they needed an exact street address for the dorm building. This is understandable but I expected to be able to give the building name at the University. I had to hang up and call back with a physical address and my daughter needed to meet the delivery driver in the lobby, no problem. There was some confusion and rather than calling my daughters number, the delivery driver was given my number. The delivery driver called trying to find the building and asking if my daughter could come find her. It sounded like she was behind my daughter's building. My daughter walked around the outside of the building until she found the driver. The delivery process was not smooth and the meal was close to $30 including soup and a drink, but my daughter thought it was delicious and she had an abundance, enough to share with others.

Yelp
Fantastic food and the service is awesome! Great menu. Very many choices! Best in Lubbock and reasonably priced!

Kendrick L.

Yelp
Terrible food portions. I spent 15 dollars on the combination lo mein expecting to have a good meal and they gave me the weakest order ever. Food wasn't really even that good either. Only go here if you want to waste your money on sub par food
google avatar

Alston B.

Yelp
I tried the chicken lo mein and it was very good. Personally I like the flavor of Bangkok more but if we are in the mood for Chinese food on a Monday when Bangkok is closed we will definitely come to uncle Chien's. Also it was a little hot inside and I don't think they have a bathroom

Matt R.

Yelp
The reason I am giving this 2 stars is because the hot and sour soup was decent and the service was good. As other reviews have mentioned the eggrolls are tiny. The chicken, veggies and rice had the texture or a microwaved lean cuisine, but didn't even taste as good. The wonton soup was basically black pepper and broth. Besides the hot and sour soup it was very difficult to eat any of the food.

Chase C.

Yelp
We are fairly new to the Lubbock area- and have been searching for the best all-around Chinese spot in town. This probably is not it- of all 5 things we ordered, only the combination fried rice deserves 3-4 stars. I was looking forward to the wonton soup- but it was completely over seasoned, the wontons were soggy, and the broth - was less than desirable. The service was timely, a bit over-priced (like everything now a days) and the people there were super nice! Probably won't try this spot again , other than for the fried rice. I'll keep trying!

Alfredo S.

Yelp
The food is flavorless, fried rice is just a mix rice , definitely the worst Chinese food I ever ate......the pictures in the menu are not the same you ate
google avatar

Kacy H.

Yelp
I don't understand the negative reviews for this place. If you think a chain like panda express is better than food you can see being cooked to order you should probably just stick to fast food and keep your mouth shut. The black pepper beef (or chicken) is out of this world flavorful. You can actually taste the fresh squeezed orange in the orange chicken. The vegetables are always cooked well and not a step above raw like a lot of places. The meat is always tender and never dry. We eat here all the time and we're never disappointed.

Blake P.

Yelp
-Food was great and flavorful. - Gave us a discount since they were out of wonton soup - Could see them cooking your meal - Friendly and didn't kick us out when it got close to closing time - Prices are good for the amount of food. Overall a great hole in the wall place with good food and prices. Will definitely be coming back to this place instead of ginger express.
google avatar

Yelp
Groupon find an excelente meal! We started with the fried shrimp. They were tender and tasty with a light, crunchy texture. I had the shrimp pad thai which is what a pad Thai should be, sweet & spicy. Just the way I like it yum . My hubby had the shrimp yellow curry. He described the flavor as provocative / addictive and unlike other yellow curries he's had. The shrimp was just the right level of tenderness and the heat level almost right, (he has a high threshold). The flavors surprise you in a small, whole in the wall type of place. These ladies have it going on!

Yelp
First time trying the place out, it was pretty good in my taste. Really small when you first go in but had a cozy feel. Great service! Elderly man was pretty nice, went in with a group of friends even though they were going to close in an hour they were happy to have us there. Although low on supply when we ordered. Fast service that's for sure. Got the won ton soup, now that i didn't really enjoy, it was a dark color when most won tons I've had are a opaque yellow. But the lo mien was fulfilling. All in all, it was pretty decent for the buck. Cheap, big portions and good service! :)

Yelp
I had fond memories of eating at Uncle Chiens in high school, so when I saw a Groupon available I thought I'd give it a try again. Given that the last time I'd eaten there was 10-12 years ago I figured some things would be a bit different, but my heart sank when I realized the Asian woman who used to do everything (take your order/payment, cook, etc) was not there still. The two stars are because the egg drop soup and steamed dumplings were okay. Nothing great, but nothing objectionable about either one. However, the yellow curry with chicken and the pan fried noodles with beef were downright awful. There was little difference between the two sauces, both were the same color and basically a sugary syrup. There may have been a tiny hint of curry flavor in the "yellow curry" that the menu indicated should have been spicy, but that's about it. The base ingredients of the pan fried noodles were fine (veggies, noodles, beef) but that sauce really ruined the dish. I would definitely not recommend this place anymore, especially when there are much better options around Lubbock.

Amy P.

Yelp
I aways come here when I'm in Lubbock. Food is always great and everyone is always friendly. The pan fried noodles are my favorite and I look forward to getting them when I am in town.

Lillia R.

Yelp
I like Uncle Chien's but it's definitely not anything fancy if that's what you're looking for. I always get the fried wontons and the lemon chicken. I love the crust on the lemon chicken. Many comments mention that there are no Asian people here, but I honestly believe the recipes are authentic and they make everything pretty much made to order. They are nice and fast in the drive through.

Yelp
This is an amazing restaurant I love the chicken lo mein & fried cheese wantons. Every time I come here & the owner is working she's so sweet & remembers my order & the food is perfect. But when I come in & she isn't here I swear the food does not taste the same, portion sizes are different, the food is over cooked & the sauce wasn't made right for the chicken lo mein. I love coming here but after this last time I won't be coming back unless the owner is working, this is the 3rd time this has happened because the owner wasn't there. I love this place but it's always so disappointing when she isn't here.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Came here with my daughter for lunch around 12:30 on a weekday. This is a modest restaurant with probably less than 10 tables. If you are looking for fancy, this isn't it. We appreciate the simple things, so we planned a visit. There were 2 employees; 1 taking the orders/payments and bringing the orders out and 1 who was cooking. The person taking our order was understandably a bit stressed because it was busy and was kind of short with me at first, but after I told her we had never been there before, she eased up and was more friendly and helpful. We ordered fried cheese wontons, a half order of cashew chicken, and a half order of orange chicken. It took about 10 minutes to get our food. I had to ask for napkins as they were out. There is also no soy sauce on the tables, so you have to ask for that too. Overall, the food was ok. The half orders were just the right portions. The wontons were excellent, and for those wondering, they make theirs sweet. I would go back to try other dishes, but I probably wouldn't order the same orders again. My veggies were a little overcooked, the rice was nothing notable, and I ran out of drink and was afraid to ask for a refill.

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp. Definitely underrated! If you like flavor this is your place! I'm coming back.
google avatar

Terina S.

Yelp
This food was gross. The wonton soup was a strange, almost black color. It was very salty and terrible. The sweet and sour chicken was nothing more than a regular over fried chicken pieces in a bad batter. The chicken fried rice was okay, but half as much as I would expect to come in a serving for all the price. All egg rolls, I tried veggie, pork and beef, seemed store bought then deep fried. All portions are small, all flavors were not good. I won't be back.

Amanda M.

Yelp
I ordered two servings of Pad Thai. The food they gave me was not Pad Thai but rather rice noodles with a very spicy red sauce instead of peanut sauce. When I went back through the drive through to request they correct the mistake they refused and said it was Pad Thai. They also would not give a refund for this abomination of a dish.

Michelle C.

Yelp
Well, this was a good fail!! We got an order of Pat Thai, we got 3 tiny pieces of chicken and 3 shrimp, didn't even get the extra sauce! Our cheese wontons didn't have any cheese in it. I do not recommend this place!!!

Yelp
We thought we would try this place out, finally, tonight. It was 7pm and when I saw they closed at 8, I figured I would call out order in. It was 7:10 when we called after deciding on what we wanted--no answer. Tried again a few minutes later, still no answer. Figured maybe they were busy, but as it was 45min until closing and we live a few minutes away we decided to just drive and order there. Waited in line for a few minutes since the dining room looked shut down. Got to the window, guy asked if we called in an order. Told him no, we'd like to order now. He said that it was too late to order and I explained that I tried calling and no one answered. He said, "When it gets to that time of the night we stop taking orders." I'm sorry, but your restaurant's business hours are until 8pm. Maybe if you stop accepting orders or diners an HOUR before you close, this should be mentioned somewhere other than the window after driving and waiting in line. I'll update this status if we ever decide to go back and actually try their food. Thankfully there was Honk Kong Buffet! (And it was crab legs night!)

Yelp
I am not sure which Caucasian worker was Uncle Chien. They were pretty popular for take-out, and there was a delivery that left while we were there. Inside was empty. The food was OK, but everything was sweet. The menu only has individual plates, it is not family style. The items that were supposed to be spicy were not (although the yellow mustard quickly remedied that). The egg rolls were completely tasteless. The service was pretty good and we got our food fairly quickly and they did refill our drinks multiple times.

Sunny D.

Yelp
Food is always hot and generous portions. Employees are friendly. Prices are reasonable.

Stormy W.

Yelp
Fresh, spicy! Love it! Super small place but the food is great and staff is so friendly and helpful, unlike Thai Pepper!
google avatar

Austin H.

Yelp
Nobody in the restaurant except me. Been here 25 minutes and haven't gotten food yet. All I ordered was Mongolian beef and steamed rice... Come on now. They are fulfilling a huge to- go order that was called in 5 minutes after I arrived before giving me my food. Mongolian beef came out. SUPER SALTY. After finishing half of it, it has begun to taste like pizza haha! Wow this is different.
google avatar

Kelby A.

Yelp
The food took forever to get to my location, and the food was so far from what I expected. The batter on the chicken was soggy and wasn't even connected to the chicken. Two hours after eating this food both my co worker and I could not stay away from the restroom. Extremely disappointed and will not be returning.
google avatar

CJ L.

Yelp
This is our favorite spot for Chinese food. It's quick, the service is always great and it is delicious. They also deliver & have a to-go window which is amazingly convenient! Check it out!

Fussy C.

Yelp
The person was rude. He said "you're not supposed to be in here!" WTF, how would I know? Dirty place so I left.
google avatar

Liliane L.

Yelp
SKIP IT!!!! Get Little Panda instead! I realize it is not a traditional sit down eating place but the Subpar service makes it even more unconventional. Canned mushrooms, flavorless food won ton soup, thin lo mein, sesame chicken that was meh. The only thing I did enjoy were the cheese own tons. I have had the pad Thai and I remembered it was good- but this meal cemented the fact that I will never ever be back!
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
I love eating at Uncle Chien's. The combination fried rice and pork egg rolls are so good

Justin M.

Yelp
This place had the most stars in this town and the food was terrible! Do not recommend and better off going to panda at least you know what to expect.

Alec P.

Yelp
Just don't. Toughest chicken I've ever had. Ordered a bunch of different food and I didn't have more than two bites of anything. Just not a good look.

Kay C.

Yelp
Just happened to pass by and saw this place and the chicken rice noodles and egg drop soup are so good! Definitely will keep coming back here and the service is great too!
google avatar

Kelli H.

Yelp
Unless you are prepared to wait 2 hours for delivery, I would not recommend this restaurant. Estimated delivery time was 45 min and even after calling the restaurant again, still no sign of my food. I will never order from here again.
google avatar

Harry N.

Yelp
Ordered the General Tso's Chicken and Orange Chicken. The broccoli was definitely over-cooked and appeared a very light green; chicken pieces smelled like they were fried in oil that was (definitely) not fresh; the heavy smell lingered on for hours in my house. The Wonton soup was black-brown in color! And had lots of the protein scum still floating in the soup ... that's pretty unforgivable! I really liked the staff; very friendly but I could not get past the poor quality of the food.
google avatar

Meagan H.

Yelp
We got several things off the menu and none of it was that great. The sweet spur sauce tastes like it was diluted in water. The curry was not curry by any Thai means it tasted more like terrayaki. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Thai Thai off 50 th is so much better Or Choochai for thai food is where to go. Wont be going back.
google avatar

Kenneth H.

Yelp
A++ service and fantastic food. I normally cringe when having to try a new Chinese place as it's always hit or miss. Was pleasantly surprised that the food was so good coming from such a small place. Being from Chicago and having great Chinese food all over, it was refreshing to find a place here in Lubbock so close to home. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Felicia A.

Yelp
Got delivery. Took an hour. I called to see where my food was and the lady on the phone told me the driver had already arrived. Did not get my food for another 20 minutes. Food was completely cold and sub par. Really disappointed. Complete waste of money and time. Not worth it.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Just watched one of the workers run to the door to open it for a elderly woman with a walker. I have ordered my food and have not tested it yet but was so impressed with this I had to post this now. More of this and less bad customer service.

Yelp
Surprising little spot in a little dingy building. A great bargain for some old fashion chinese food. Best place to cure a hangover w/greasy made to order entrees. Owner/chef will take care of you since she is right there when u order and u can see the stove next to the counter.
