This Long Beach Restaurant Cooks Up Unique Indonesian Street Food | Eater LA

"I think the best new addition just may be Uncle Fung Borneo Eatery, a warm, welcoming casual full-service spot that spun out of Alhambra and opened in Long Beach’s Bixby Village Plaza after Peter Then (aka Uncle Fung) ran Borneo Kalimantan Cuisine there for a decade. The tight 15-item menu leans on specialties from Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and the noodles are especially good: there are three takes on laksa mee ($9.99) in a rich, spicy shrimp-stock-and-coconut-milk broth — try it with the “curly and elastic” Alhambra-made egg noodles (vermecelli and rice noodles are available but lack the same bounce) — and every bowl is littered with puffy fried tofu triangles, firm tofu strips, sweet shrimp, chewy fish cakes, a soy-marinated hard-boiled egg, and a sprinkling of corn, bean sprouts, scallions, and fried shallots. The difference between Malaysian, Borneo, and Indo mee is mainly the toppings; start with the Borneo hokkian mee ($7.99), topped with thin-shaved sweet BBQ pork, soy-braised dark-meat chicken, and mushrooms (it comes with a chicken-broth sidecar). Fried rice and noodle plates show the “Borneo wok” smoky sear — charkway teow ($9.99) is stir-fried thin rice noodles with BBQ pork, shrimp, fish cakes, scrambled egg, greens, bean sprouts, and scallions — and the house hot sauce (Thai bird’s eye chilies, sugar, garlic, ginger, salt, pepper) is a must, with a staff “secret stash” that’s far hotter. Ayam penyet ($8.99) is a well-spiced, judiciously fried Cornish game hen seasoned with turmeric, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper and served with a steamed rice dome topped with crispy shallots; sambal penyet (a thick red chile paste with extra sugar and seeds) adds more punch. Roti prata (one piece $3.99, pair $7.50) arrives flaky and griddled with a mildly spicy Indonesian island curry for dipping — eat it while the flakes last. The rest of the compact menu includes gado gado (tofu, egg, and vegetable salad with peanut sauce) and sate ayam (grilled dark-meat chicken skewers); drinks include tropical fruit tea, sweet creamy coffee, and milo. Uncle Fung is just getting started and appears to be part of a burgeoning Indonesian food movement across LA." - Eater

Food tasted okay. I love that the food is not fatty or oily. Food was fresh, except the water. It tasted like unfiltered sink water. The food did not look like the pictures on the menu, so we were confused if we got the correct order. The cashier said it was the correct order, so we ate our food. Nice quiet vibe.

Went here for the first time and I loved it! Thr food was extremely flavorful and delicious. The HIGHLY recommend the chicken skewers and the Roti! The restaurant isnt too big but we went during lunch time on a Saturday and we got a table right away. The shopping center's parking lot is a bit tight but manageable.

This spot is hidden in plain sight. Great kha soi. Noodles that hold the soup. Solid portioning. Quick service. Bowls always look full. I've been here several times since 2017 and they've never changed

Google
Very casual spot serving delicious Indonesian/singaporean/malaysian food! Came in around Saturday at 1ish and it was not too crowded, just a few families here and there. We were able to seat and order quickly. My family has been coming here for years for their laksa and it was one of the few places that did it many years ago and still now! The noodles felt a little short(?), but the curry broth was spicy, umami and packed a punch! Chicken satay was perfectly grilled and was topped with a peanut sauce and fried shallots which made for a sweet, smoky and salty bite. So good. Lastly we tried the kwehtiau kuah for the first time. Don’t let the clear broth fool you—this soup was comforting and umami and so deep in flavor. Overall a delicious, delicious meal. Parking is easy—in a big mall center.

Google
Food, service, and ambiance was 5/5. We ordered 3 dishes, and everything came in less than 15 minutes! I've been to their Buena Park location, and the food was just as great / consistent. On top of that, the waiters were very patient and friendly. They answered our questions, accommodated special requests, and had a little side chat! Ambiance was also modern and clean. It was a great dining experience overall! I would highly recommend this location for those who are interested in trying Southeast Asian food. The staffs are very accommodating and friendly. I can tell that they know about their products well and are passionate about introducing it to others. Keep up the good work!

Google
great Indonesian food.. recommended. nice ambience, some of the decoration bring me back some memories of good old days Indonesian street food staffs. All meals we had: laksa, satay, kwe tiau, ayam geprek... all delicious and authentic. I believe all other meals are delicous too. Interior is nice, modern, clean and fully renovated unlike other restaurant that looks old fashioned. tumbs up! this kind of restaurant will bring Indonesian food well known.

Google
Our Indonesian friend brought us here after a long morning of Pickleball and we could have hardly been happier with our food! His recommendation seems to speak for the authenticity of the cuisine, that we all found absolutely delicious. Prices are a bit steeper, but pretty much in line with current norms (meals around $15 and much better value than a burger and fries). Generous portions, although the two pieces of Roti for $10.5 felt a bit slim as the "large" portion. If I didn't want to try as much as possible my partner and I could have gotten away with splitting one meal. Vietnamese coffee and boba in the same strip as well for those looking for a post-meal treat for their ride home.

Google
This was my first time trying Singaporean food and it was so good! The restaurant also excellent service, the staff were friendly, and the food came out fast. I definitely recommend their roti as an appetizer, and their Laksa Mee and their Singaporean Fried Rice as entrees.

Yelp
Ermagherd! I have been looking all over the county/SoCal for Nasi Lemak that I have been dreaming about since visiting Kuala Lumpur ages ago. Sadly South East Asian eateries or places that supposedly serve authentic cuisine are few and far between. So when someone on a local social media group said "Lemak" my attention sprung up quicker than a mushroom on a dead log. I checked their menu and sure enough they had Nasi Lemak -WITH cripy fried chicken and potato chips. I only ever had it with the coconut rice, anchovies, sambal sauce, peanuts, boiled egg and cucumbers. While Uncle Fung's does not come wrapped in banana leaf and newspaper, as is customary of street food in Malaysia this was just as delicious. I decided to try the dish out as a to-go order one weekend. There was a bit of a wait when I got there even if I had called it in ahead but there were a ton of to-go orders coming out of the kitchen while I waited. The restaurant is located at the same area as Target so there's lots of parking. The servers were super nice and gave me an extra container of sambal sauce when I said I liked it. The place is small, much like a cafe and chill. Nothing to write home about but it's all about the flavours here. I also ordered Singaporean fried rice. The ingredients in their rice was a little different from what I am accustomed to but it was nonetheless delicious. The Nasi Lemak brought back so many memories that I went back again a few days later. It was for lunch this time and my order came out slightly different with roasted potatoes instead of potato chips. Still good though. Note that the Nasi Lemak is not on their online menu so if you want it, you have to call it in. Please try Uncle Fung's. It's my new Asian go-to.

Yelp
I have been wanting to come to this restaurant for a while and I am so glad that I finally got to try it! I ordered their laksa which they told me was the most popular thing on the menu. And for good reason! It has so much depth of flavor! You can tell a lot of love goes into this dish. I enjoyed all of the proteins in the soup and I ate the entire bowl in one sitting. The you g lady who was working while I was there was very kind. This is a casual restaurant where you can sit down or order to go. I'm sure the other items on their menu are great as well!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of eating here the other night when I came by to visit a friend in LB. I did not even know this place existed but I am glad he brought me here for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by how excellent the food was. I am already thinking of coming back another time to try other stuff on their menu! I think we had the Singapore Laksa, I am not entirely sure but the point is that it was delicious. It was a heaping portion of soup that left me more than satisfied. It is packed with so many things too like an egg, shrimp, rice cake, etc. Most definitely worth the money. In addition to this, the service was exceptionally fast. Our food was out in a reasonable amount of time and the server was really attentive. He gave us recommendations on what to try and what is most popular. He also continually came back to check up on us to make sure we were doing okay. It was very pleasant in here as well; the indoor portion was quite clean and warm, which is especially welcome with the cold weather lately.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite fast casual Borneo eateries to frequent if I'm in the LB area. You order at the counter, and they'll bring the food out to you. The laksa mee is a must if you are craving creamy curry noodles in soup, otherwise their dry noodles and rice plates are a good alternative. If you're looking for an appetizer, I'd highly recommend their roti! It was so flaky and fresh, it complemented the curry sauce so well.

Yelp
I love SEA food and all of the flavors it comes with, so I highly recommend this spot. I have been here a few times. I like the satay, roti, and laksa. There are other dishes I have yet to try but look so yummy. Definitely one of my go to, casual spots when I am craving SEA food. The people here are very nice as well!
google avatar

Yelp
My new go to spot for Laksa! The broth was extremely rich with the perfect amount of spice. Also loved the texture of their egg noodles. Only comment would be that the bean sprouts to noodle ratio was a bit off but I was okay with it since the bean sprouts were cooked nicely. Parking wasn't too bad on a weekday but I can imagine it can get packed on weekends since the plaza parking is shared with target and a popular boba and coffee shop. Definitely recommend giving them a try!

Yelp
Thank you for fulfilling my noodle soup craving ! The best I've had in such a loooong time. Per recommendation, I ordered the Singapore Laksa-- omg lemme tell ya -the best! Large bowl of flavorful shrimp based curry, shrimp, fish cake, fried tofu, marinated hard boiled egg, sweet corn, green onions, bean sprouts, and my choice of vermicelli. My mouth is just watering talking about it. I'm a total spice connoisseur, and this soup was right up there. Maybe added a few drops of tableside chili paste. I wish I lived closer to ya, see ya next time I'm back in town!

Yelp
Uncle Fung has been one of my protein fixes here in Long Beach and the first Indonesian, Singaporean, and Malaysian food I've ever tried! I've only tried their Borneo Rice Plate, which comes with Char Siu, Chinese Sausage, fried chicken, marinated egg, and gravy broth. All the meats are incredibly flavorful, and I love the seasoned egg that comes with the meal. I highly recommend trying this place and getting this plate. My friends have tried their Singapore Laksa and loved it, too; that's one of their most popular soups, according to Yelp. If you haven't tried this cuisine before, you should try it when you are in the area. Parking is very crowded here, but you can usually find a spot. There is a Target and other popular businesses so that's why its busy.

Yelp
I loved the Rendang. The other dishes, not so much. Singaporean laksa was very creamy and the borneo rice plate had no gravy. Would only come back for the rendang. Place was super small. But when we arrived at 7:30 and they close at 8:30, there were still tables. Service was just okay. Not sure if it was because we dined near closing time. 1 star dock off: we ordered two borneo rice plate to have them come out 7-8 minutes apart from each other. Another star dock off: server forgot the sauce bowl that we requested. Server brought my rendang, went to another table, went back into the kitchen for another server to come back out and deliver my rendang to me. Took about 3-4 minutes since I first saw it delivered to the wrong table.

Yelp
Yum! Just got back from Singapore and I just couldn't get enough. Found this place looking on Yelp on my way to LAX so wanted to stop by and try. Service was fast, food came out super fast. First time trying laksa and we got the Singapore laksa and it's so good! Very coconutty and sweet with a kick of spice. Got it with the egg (looks like ramen) noodles, it was perfect. Also got the chicken satay plate with coconut rice, so different from the Thai satay and so much flavor, so tender and juicy from the sauce they brush on/marinade. My son got the indo mee, said it tastes like the mi goreng made by indomie, which is our favorite instant noodle. I'm hooked!

Yelp
This place is our go-to place for delicious laksa! Soup was delicious and the marinated egg was amazing! However, we noticed some changes during our visit this time. For the laksa, you can choose what noodles to use (rice, vermincelli or egg). We would deliberately choose the egg noodles over the rice noodles here so it wouldn't get as mushy. The noodles we got were not the familiar ones from before. It used to be the thick egg noodles for chow mein but now it's the flat, thin, curly ones used in fujianese peanut noodles. Please bring back the original egg noodles! Roti was freshly made and went well with the curry sauce. The curry sauce went great with the rice plate too! The chicken satay was surprisingly crispy! It tastes like a marinated popcorn chicken slathered with a sweet soy peanut sauce then topped with crispy onions. Rather than grilled (as stated on the menu), I think the satay skewers were deep fried. The rice plate was good. I like the egg and the sausage the most. I'm ok with skipping on this one next time as it's very similar to what you can get at a cantonese eatery. Definitely will be back for the laksa but hopefully the noodles will be the egg noodles from before.

Yelp
I had the singapore laksa and my friend had the indo mie. Both dishes were great, but I loved the flavor of the singapore laksa. Not pictured, but we also got the chicken satay appetizer, which is my ultimate favorite dish from here. It's a cute little restaurant and the food came out very quickly. I'd love to come back again to try their other noodle dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the hokkien mie which my partner LOVED but I thought it needed a little more flavor! I ordered the Borneo rice plate which didn't come with gravy broth like the menu said? But the FRIED CHICKEN of the Borneo rice plate was delicious and flavorful! Star of the plate. The marinated egg was really yummy too.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Indonesian, Malaysian, and Singaporean food, and honestly, it was amazing! You can tell there's a blend of different cultures in the dishes, and everything we ordered was so flavorful. We had the Singapore Laksa, which is a soup dish, and it kind of reminded me of a unique version of ramen (in the best way possible). I loved it! We also got the Borneo Rice Plate, which came with Char Siu, Chinese sausage, fried chicken, a marinated egg, and a little broth. All the meats had their own distinct flavors, but none of them overpowered the others, it was such a nice balance. Plus, the portions were perfect for trying a bit of everything. The service was great too! The staff was super kind, and the food came out really fast, which was awesome. It wasn't crowded when we went, so it felt really chill and relaxing. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Long Beach. The food was comforting, unique, and just really hit the spot. Highly recommend checking it out!

Yelp
Really enjoyed Uncle Fung Borneo Eatery. It's a casual place with a decent amount of room for indoor dining. It's a great place for a quick lunch during the work week. We got 3 items and shared; the food was incredible! So flavorful, savory, and delicious. We started with the roti prata which came with a lovely ginger sauce. The roti was hot, buttery, and perfectly chewy. The Vegetarian Mie came with the broth on the side which had plenty of garlic and seasoning. The noodles paired so well with the crispy tofu and green onion. Perhaps my favorite dish, the Singapore fried rice had a good mix of meat and vegetables. So savory and went beautifully with the ginger sauce from the roti as well as the table's hot sauce. Will definitely be back at this place!! One of my new go-to spots in Long Beach.

Yelp
Amazing place to have Malay/ Indonesian/ Singaporean food. Local in Long Beach and hidden in a plaza with cha for tea. We ordered roti twice because it was so good! Fresh roti and comes with this addicting spiced curry like dipping sauce Chicken satay is another must have dish and goes well with roti if you want have meat with it, their peanut sauce makes you smile and roll your eyes. I had the hokkien noodle with chashu. Omg I can have another one!!! So many other things I want try. My partner ordered the roasted chicken set and was amazing. Having the roti on the side really makes the meal so amazing. Did I already say the roti is a must order? lol I will come back definitely

Yelp
My friend and I visited Uncle Fung and ordered their Char Kway Teow and Singapore Fried Rice. While both were similar (and delicious) one of the notable taste was that it was a tad too salty. I personally had the char kway teow, and it was so good! The BBQ pork was sweet and cooked perfectly - not dry! As someone who regularly ate that growing up, it's such an impressive skill. There were also fish cakes and other vegetables, but nothing was as outstanding as the BBQ pork. Outside of the food, the staff were super friendly even around closing hours and accommodated a few more orders. They brought our food out, provided us water (without us asking) and even left tables outside for us to enjoy our food. A+ food and service - thank you so much!

Yelp
We were flying out from Long Beach, and decided to come here beforehand. We started with the roti prata which came with a curry sauce. I ordered the satay plate as my main. The chicken skewers were topped with peanut sauce and came with a choice of rice. I enjoyed it overall. I also tried my bf's Singapore laksa broth- nice and a bit spicy. The restaurant is located in a Target strip mall. They also have a location at Buena Park.

Yelp
I've been to Uncle Fung a couple of times, and every time I've gotten food here, it's always delicious. My favorite is their Hokkien Mie. The food is flavorful and is made with fresh ingredients. It's a great addition to the area in Long Beach that boarders Seal Beach. Whenever I am in this area and I want some comforting delicious Asian food, it's nice that I don't have to drive all the way to Cerritos or Westminster. Uncle Fung does not disappoint. The prices are also very reasonable.
google avatar

Fernando A.

Yelp
I've been a few times now and somehow forgot to do a review on Uncle Fing. This place is delicious, and pretty unique. I don't know of any other Singaporean/Indonesian restaurants in LB. I've had the Laksa Me and the Hokkien Me and both were delicious. The first is kind of like a spicy ramen soup and the second is dry noodles, kind of like bun, but with more flavorful noodles. The place is nice and clean, and the owners are so friendly and nice. If you want to try something similar to Thai and Vietnamese, you should definitely come to Uncle Fung's.
google avatar

Joy B.

Yelp
What an amazing food experience! I would love to come back and try more yummy things here!! Service was super fast. Ambiance is very simple but somehow nurturing. Everything was crazy flavorful and just the right amount of spicy (i like it spicy!) somehow fresh and warming at the same time. So glad I came here!

Yelp
Such a yummy place! I have never been to a Borneo restaurant before and wanted to try it out. The cuisine is a fusion of Indonesian, Singaporean, and Malaysian. The restaurant is tucked away in a small plaza shared with Target. Plenty of parking on a Saturday evening. I was seated right away and placed my order with the waiter. The interior is pretty casual/low key. I ordered the Hokkien Mee ($13), which is a stir-fried egg noodle dish mixed with chicken and char siu (pork). The egg noodles were coated in a light soy sauce which was delicious and the dish also came with a bowl of broth on the side. Very good! I also tried their Roti Prata ($10 for two) which was super buttery and flaky. It was paired with an orange coconut-based curry sauce which was also great. Overall everything was fantastic, service was fast, and prices were fair! A great local hole-in-the-wall if you are looking to try some authentic Southeast Asian cuisine.

Yelp
Singapore cuisine. We've had a craving to eat more unique dishes like we ate in Singapore. We heard good things & read positive reviews about Uncle Fung's Borneo style food. We ordered Hokkien Mie noodlea, Singapore Laksa noodle soup, & Chicken Satay skewers. The noodles are good., and served in a reasonable portion, enough to typically satisfy 1 person. The laksa flavor is similar, but not very close to what we recall tasting in Singapore restaurants. .The laksa here tasted more like a Thai green curry. It had a lot of coconut milk, lacked shrimp paste/flavoring, & didn't have as many vegetables, ingredients, & original flavors that we were expecting. Chicken Satay skewers were very good. The noodle soups here are good, satisfying, & reasonably priced. I'd come back for the noodle soups . It just isn't very similar to the Singapore cuisine flavors we recall & we're trying to find.
google avatar

Bonnie C.

Yelp
This was my first time trying this cuisine and it was delicious! Even though we went at lunchtime, the service was quick and we didn't have to wait at all to get seated and our food came out fast. Chicken Satay Appetizer - The chicken was moist and absolutely delicious! There is a peanut sauce poured on top, which adds great flavor to the dish. Borneo Rice Plate - This had a variety of meats on it (char siu, Chinese sausage, and fried chicken), so it is a good option if you want to try a little bit of everything. The portion sauce was generous and it was paired with a bowl of soup too!
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Placed an order here spontaneously after getting a separate order next door. The hokkien mee sounded delicious with the char siu on top. I thought it was fairly priced at $12.99 with all the char siu and chicken that came with it. The noodles were the perfect thickness, and I loved the spicy hot sauce on the side that came with it! Such a great option for some quick takeout food, since there aren't a lot of places that you can find Singaporean food. I don't live here but if I'm ever back in Long Beach again, I'll definitely be ordering here so I can try more dishes!
google avatar

Hanning X.

Yelp
If you want to try a downright delicious bowl of laksa, come here now. People definitely are sleeping on this place. I've been a couple of times and never had to wait to get seated. There is plenty of parking especially with the Target nearby. I always get their Singaporean laksa. The broth packs such a punch and the noodles bring you home. Their chicken satay and naan are pretty solid, but the noodles keep bringing me back. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better bowl of laksa in LA if you don't want to go all the way to the San Gabriel Valley.
google avatar

Kaelaunie B.

Yelp
Authentic Indonesian food near the university. Super flavorful, unique, and good for appetizers or full meals. We got the rendang, nasi lewit, and prata roti. Would order all of them again if available, two were secret menu items. The staff is friendly and the service was quick on a Tuesday for lunch. A lot of people come for their lunch hour pick up, so dine in is not a problem. Love the house made sambal!!!

Yelp
Good food. I really miss the southeast asian cuosine and Uncle Fung's food is a bomb.
google avatar

Kimberly S.

Yelp
Delicious food and excellent service -- doesn't get better than that! I love the Borneo plate and chicken satay (with coconut rice) and my fiancé loves their Hokkien Mie. The staff always recognizes him when he picks up our order despite there being weeks in between visits, and they go above and beyond by letting me sub extra of my favorite meat on the plate :) Thank you so much!! We'll be loyal customers as long as we live in Long Beach.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't updated my review from my first time here. Well to say the least, this place stands strong as one of my faves. You know it's good when you schedule your day to be able to have lunch here. That's a 5 star establishment in my book. Here are my staples: Laksa Mee (5): I get this every time now. This is something I'll crave and think about during the week. The coconut based soup is simply amazing. A slight kick but flavor really unmatched. Noodles are pretty standard and probably the only thing that can be improved upon. Also come with shrimp, egg, fish cake, tofu, bean sprouts. Just a delicious bowl through and through. Chicken skewers (5): if I'm hungry or with someone else I'll add these. These are still what brought me in. Their peanut sauce is amazing! Honestly, since I crave the laksa mee and chicken skewers I haven't really explored more of their menu. I hear the noodles are good but those staples are just that good. Maybe I'll bring the family here one day so I can try more dishes. Until then, I'll be back for my next appointment in the area.

Yelp
Delicious meal and was fun to try Indonesian meals. .Hokkian Mie noodles was my favorite with the egg noodles and BBQ Pork. .Roti Prata is a fried flour pancake that came with curry dipping sauce. I liked the pancake just by itself, but I'm the curry sauce is growing on me. .Borneo Rice Plate had a great variety to the plate. Rice, BBQ Pork, chicken, boiled egg, and cucumbers. Came with a side of broth soup that was easy and light to drink. This was definitely a great spot to introduce Indonesian cuisine. Service was pretty good and the staff is friendly. We sat down right away and business picked up for dinner as the night went on. Restaurant is clean. Restroom is only one room and it was unfortunately a bit out of order. Plenty of parking as the lot is big and there are lots of other shops around and in the same lot as Target. Excited to visit again!

Yelp
I have no clue why it took me so long to finally try Uncle Fung's but I hate myself for not doing it sooner! The food here is authentic as hell and the price point for what you get is a good deal. For broke college students, you'll probably be able to get 2 meals out of one order depending on what you get. Will for sure be coming back here again! I ordered for pick up and it was craaazy busy when I arrived. A lot of the medical workers from the hospital dine there during their lunch breaks so I think that's a contributing factor for sure but the waitresses were pretty snappy when I overheard them talking to customers & when I needed to pick up my own order too. Understandable since it was busy but definitely had me kind of going "hmm" to myself LOL It would probably be a better experience if I didn't go during prime lunch hours, just food for thought!

Yelp
I didn't know about this establishment till some friends invited me to it. I think there are other locations as well, but I'm reviewing the one in Long Beach. I really liked this place. There used to be more Southeast Asian eateries, especially Indonesian ones here and there long ago. I know they still exist, but a bit harder to find. This one was a combination/fusion cuisine of Indonesian, Singaporean, and Malaysian (I hope I described that correctly). They have a diverse menu in the sense that whatever your mood is, say for soup, curry, or other foods, they have a great selection. I had the vegetarian curry to go. My friends were there to sit and eat, and said the soups were great, and very filling. I will say one thing is it's of concern for you, and that the food tends to be spicier than most Asian places. Not that it's a bad thing, but if you cannot eat much spice, request they make your meal mild. Perhaps even very mild with the spice. I used to be able to eat spicier foods, but now, especially in the late evenings, it's a bit hard on me, so I need to tone it down a bit. I know Thai food leans spicier as well, but the food here was more so. I very much enjoyed their food, and I highly recommend you pay a visit!

Yelp
Wanted to try something new so we ventured here coz this little strip mall has a great food selections. Pleasantly enjoyed the borneo plate since has sausage, pork and chicken. The laksa had a kick but we liked it. The server was helpful when we asked questions given our first time. She was friendly and accommodating. Great service.

Yelp
On my last night of my visit, I suggested this place for dinner. I've frequent the Buena Park location when I lived in the OC. Ordered the satay plate with a small side of their roti prata. It was how I remembered it to be; so delicious! It's quite the drive from Lawndale where my boyfriend lives but it was worth it!

Yelp
If I can't make it to simpang Asia, this is the next best thing! Indonesian restaurants are harder to come by in South Bay but this place hits the spot every time. Food, service, and ambiance are all great and work for larger groups too.

Yelp
Southern CA has very little in terms of Indonesian food. This place has some Indonesian dishes that make me feel like my family cooked them and gives me a cozy vibe. Come here and you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
The 5 stars are for the roti prata. I really could eat one of those every day for the rest of my life. The accompanying curry dip just takes it over the top, as if that were possible. I also had the veggie mie which was fine, but didn't even make the podium compared to the all around gold for the roti. And that's said by someone who's eaten Indian styled flatbreads her whole life! Take out was pretty easy. Small space wirh interior seating. Parking lot is a little chaotic

Yelp
Wow!!! I discovered this area while just browsing on yelp and now it is my go-to lunch spot. This is a special Indonesian, Malaysian, and Singapore restaurant with a variety of southeast dishes. The portions are huge, and the best part is that is very high quality and delicious. I was always get the borneo rice plate as the protein taste very good. The chicken was nicely crisped as well. The best part is that it comes with a very savory soup that you can enjoy after the meal. You will be left feeling very full. Service is good, and the ambiance is nice and quiet, perfect for a lunch or dinner. I also had the naan which made for a nice side.

Yelp
I love this place! First time we went to the Buena Park branch, it took a long time before the waitress approached our table, well, not until my husband lost his cool because we've been sitting at the table for 20 mins and there were just a few customers at that time. He thought that we were being ignored by the server. Anyway, that branch closed and now we went to eat at the resto again but at the Long Beach branch. Their food never disappoints!

Yelp
I have been here many times over the years and it has always delivered! The service is very helpful and friendly. My go-to order is the Hokkian Mie. The combination meats, fresh vegetables, noodles, and broth is incredible every single time whether I'm eating in or taking out.

Yelp
I have heard as this place as the place to go for some classic Malaysian food and I was very happily surprised. Growing up on this type of food and then moving down to SoCal, there are some times I just want my fix. I had tried some other restaurants in SoCal and although they taste similar, they don't have the best impact or taste just as good. This place was a nice exception. I had the skewers, roti, and the Laksa Mee and enjoyed it very much! The skewers I wish had the sauce put on the side instead of just poured all over the meat because it makes it very rough on some bites to get a nice ratio but otherwise was pretty good. The roti was amazing, nice and flaky just how I liked it. And the Laksa Mee was great as well. Would def want to come back again

Yelp
My friend and I were coming out of the Shen Yun performance at the Long Beach Terrace Theater STARVING (we had a small snack before the show, but not enough to sustain!) He did a bit of research and came up with plenty of choices but the pictures posted on this place (thank you, fellow Yelpers!) were impressive (and way too convincing) to pass up. A ten minute (or so) drive and here we were. All nearby parking spots were occupied, but as luck would have it, a couple of cars started backing out of theirs. We were practically right up front. Score! It was a mid-Sunday afternoon, so seating wasn't an issue. There were plenty of open tables so we were able to take our pick. No menus handed, but the QR code was enough. (This kinda tells me they're still on the fence about COVID - not a bad thing. Better safe than... well. You know... ) We agreed on an app and a main dish each. I let him choose. ROTI PRATA: The pancakes were great as is, but it's the curry sauce that pulled everything together! I've had a wide array of experience with curry, but there was something different about this one. Curry level was mild but had that explosion of flavors without overwhelming the senses. The level of heat was subtle, but definitely present. The combination of sweet and savory was perfect. And although it seemed watered down, it ended up being the perfect consistency for the pancakes to absorb. This. Was. EXCELLENT. BORNEO RICE PLATE: My choice of main. Proteins were laid on a bed of white rice, I didn't know where to start! Went for the chicken first: great crisp on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, the bit of char gave it character and taste, good seasoning. Next was the BBQ pork: there's a level of toughness to it (but I believe it's supposed to be served that way), a little on the sweet side, although slight, good chew. Also great. Marinated egg was cooked hard boiled, good taste, helped with palate cleansing. And the side of soup: WOW. Like the egg, it was also a good palate cleanser. It had depth and really hearty - excellent side for a slightly cold and rainy day. I could have had at least a couple more of those! HONEY GREEN TEA: Incredibly refreshing. I was glad to have ordered it, it was a fantastic choice to wash everything down. My friend got the hakka mee (or at least I think that's what he got.) I got to try a bit of it, and it, too was excellent! FOOD: 5. There was nothing I didn't like. SERVICE: 4. Not a lot of interaction, but above average. VALUE: 5. Quantity AND quality. PARKING: Private lot - HUGE = shared with others. If you don't mind a walk on their busy hours, shouldn't be an issue. OVERALL: 4.5. Our grub was served on togo containers which I thought was brilliant. I ended up not being able to finish my food - there was enough for a 2nd meal (or a snack.) I will also attribute this practice as part of their COVID protocol. Safe AND convenient. Me likey. Why, WHHHHHYYYY don't I have anything even remotely close to this cuisine anywhere near home! It's almost unfair. Because truth be told, should I crave it, I wouldn't mind the 30-45 minute drive just to have it again. And again. AND AGAIN! Excellent first run. Highly recommending. I shall return.

Yelp
When one first walks in, you're instantly greeted by the kind staff. The ambient music and lighting puts one at ease as you scan through the menu. After asking the kind waitress her recommendation, I ordered the Nasi Liwet. It was so delicious!!!

Yelp
One of the only Malaysian/Indo/Singaporean restaurants in the area, so glad to have it nearby. Always visit uncle fung when I'm craving food from home. My favorite is the Borneo rice plate

Yelp
Laid-back Malaysian/Indonesian restaurant offering mainly noodles and rice-based dishes. There were some appetizers and a handful of beverages, too. Food and drinks were served in disposable containers even when dining in, which seems a little funky but can come in handy if taking leftovers to-go. Staff were sweet and accommodating. I was pretty satisfied with the mee. For the one that came with a translucent broth packaged separately, I actually prefered it without the broth. It seemed to change the flavor in a way that made me regret mixing them together. The chicken satay was ok - average compared to others I've had. I wish the skewers were meatier. And I wish that the peanut sauce with kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) tasted better. Surprisingly there was no acar (pickled veggies) served with the satay. I did like the drinks! Got both teh tarik, which came with grass jelly, and kopi tarik...cuz I got a sweet tooth and can't ever be decisive. They seemed to be popular for take-out, but there were a handful of people dining in for lunch, too. I'd eat here again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Ordered pick up, was some confusion with verifying order was mine, they ended up matching what was on my app, however they did not do a good job of matching what they gave me, I ordered Singapore laska and got the fried rice instead. Food was decent, nothing special. I got the Hokkien mein, which was flavorful, but to much fatty skin on the chicken, noodles and broth were great. I also got the gado gado, expected a variety of vegetables, mostly bean sprouts in it, but still had good flavor with the peanut sauce. Last, the fried rice that I did not order, had a lot of stuff in it, but not my cup of tea.
