Uncle Julio’s Chocolate Piñata Is Back, and It’s Stuffed With Mini-Churros | Eater Dallas

"After a pandemic pause, the Mexican chain relaunched its ever-popular chocolate piñata at Dallas–Fort Worth locations as part of its 35th birthday celebrations. The interactive dessert comes as a chocolate globe served with a wooden mallet and is filled with mini churros, fresh pineapple, and strawberries; guests smash it open and dip the treats into freshly made chocolate ganache and whipped cream. Designed to serve four to eight diners, the relaunch also includes a charitable component: the business is donating $5,000 to The Birthday Party Project, and from November 1–7, $1 from each chocolate piñata sold at DFW locations will benefit the charity. The original location at 4125 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas will kick off the partnership with a piñata-smashing on November 1 at 10:30 a.m." - Adele Chapin

My mom and I flew to Dallas on a day trip and ran into this wonderful establishment. We were greeted by Marcello and we were seated immediately. We were again greeted by our server Donnell, very pleasant! We didn't have to wait long for our drinks and food. Everything was delicious and hot!

Rebecca S.

Google
The sizzling fajitas and their signature Swirl margarita hit the spot, and the fresh chips and warm tortillas were great. Service was friendly but uneven, with a long wait and a noisy dining room that made conversation tough. Prices creep up for what you get, but portions are generous, good for a casual group night if you’re not in a hurry.

Great atmosphere! Mayra was excellent! Drink got refilled. Not rushed. Positive attitude and attentive! We shared combo fajitas, queso, and churros! Highly recommended.

Google
Uncle Julio’s is consistently a solid choice for Mexican food in Dallas, especially when you’re looking for a reliable spot that delivers on both flavor and atmosphere. The fajitas are a standout and easily one of the best items on the menu. They arrive sizzling, well-seasoned, and cooked just right, with generous portions that make them perfect for sharing—or not. Whether you go with steak, chicken, or shrimp, they’re consistently satisfying and a big reason this location keeps people coming back. The drinks are another strong point. Margaritas are well made, balanced, and not overly sweet, which makes them easy to enjoy more than one. The bar program feels polished without being pretentious, and it pairs nicely with the bold flavors coming out of the kitchen. The Lemmon Avenue location has a lively but comfortable vibe—ideal for business lunches, casual dinners, or meeting friends. Service is typically attentive and efficient, even during busy times, which adds to its reputation as a dependable go-to spot. Overall: Uncle Julio’s on Lemmon Avenue earns its reputation as a Dallas staple. Great fajitas, solid cocktails, and consistent execution make it a place you can confidently recommend and return to again and again. 🌮🍹

Google
Recently visited Uncle Julios on Lemmon and had the best experience thanks to my server Mayra. I absolutely loved her food recommendation (honey chipotle salmon) and omg she mentioned the flight margaritas were just added that week and we’re definitely worth the hype. I will definitely be back and requesting her to be my server again.

Google
Visited on a super busy Saturday. We skipped waiting an hour for a table in the dining room and snagged one in the bar area. After bussing our own table, our waiter finally arrived and all was good after that! I wish I caught his name because he was the hardest working person on staff that night (2/22/25). He bussed, grabbed waters and chips for multiple tables, took our orders (which came out so quickly), and smiled the whole time. The food was fabulous! I went simple with the shrimp salad, but those may have been the best shrimp I've ever eaten. The salsa was off the charts tasty. I've never seen entire bar covered with dirty dishes on a Saturday night with a lobby full of people looking to enjoy themselves. The chaos happening didn't appeal to me, but I'd come back if our waiter was there!!

Yelp
Really Decent Food, But Service Needs Work.. We visited the Uncle Julio's on Lemmon Ave recently and overall had a pretty good meal, but the service definitely left something to be desired. We ordered a variety of fajitas - shrimp, steak, and chicken - and I have to say, everything was delicious. The meats were flavorful, cooked perfectly, and the portions were generous. We really enjoyed the food and all the fixings that came with it. However, the service was incredibly slow. It felt like we were constantly waiting - for our drinks, for our order to be taken, for the food to arrive, and even for the check. It really put a damper on what could have been a fantastic experience, and drops a 5 star experience to a 3 star experience. The manager was even within eyesight of us and could not have NOT known we were not getting attended to, but stayed at the host stand visiting with the host and another waitperson who apparently did not have enough to do If you're willing to wait, the food is worth it. But if you're in a hurry or expect attentive service, you might be disappointed.

Yelp
Uncle Julio's is a great Tex mex spot while also offering traditional Mexican cuisine. They have all of your favorites and wide variety menu of items to choose from. Plenty of margaritas to choose from and they also offer a happy hour. Their quesabirria is delicious as an appetizer and fajitas are excellent. Served with plenty of meat and veggies. We sat at the bar and got great service and the interior is new and trendy. A great spot for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
This is a great location off of lemon Avenue in Dallas Texas. I ordered a three enchilada meal with beans a tortilla soup. I also ordered a watermelon martini and a Sprite. I booked my reservation with the Resy app and the service was fantastic. 10 stars. She was fast, friendly and constantly made sure I had everything I needed. My whole meal was about $46. I would highly recommend this location and the service here.

Yelp
Well our server was very good, I ordered crab, shrimp enchiladas, very good rice and charro beans; the beans were very salty, so we had send those back for black beans. I did find the restaurant unusually empty for a Friday during lunch our, but it worked for me

Yelp
Location Just off Lemmon, Oak Lawn Parking Large lot, valet option Atmosphere Mexican family restaurant Seating Outside, inside high and low tops, bar-great for groups. Service This visit the reason for 3/5 stars. We ordered the happy hour quesadilla but we were served another quesadilla-not on the menu-which was an up-charge and he was adamantly defensive about it. Menu Generous lunch and happy hour menu. We had the not-happy hour chicken quesadilla with a generous scoop of guac, sour cream, and shredded salad. We also had the happy hour chili queso, which we thought would have chili in it but...margaritas are wonderful as are the chips-light and not heavily salted. Salsa is delish! Summary Great local Mexican restaurant. Be very clear about happy hour menu choices.

Kathleen D.

Yelp
Given the option to sit indoors or outdoors on the restaurants patio, my friend and I sat outside. After sitting for sometime I had to inside and ask if someone could take our drink order, as we did not even have water. Angelica was hosting and she said as soon as a waiter taking orders inside would be free. I said we need some water and no one has been out and she said you chose to sit outside. I said that's because you offered outside seating. eventually, a waiter came out to take our order and he very obviously had an attitude. We almost felt like we were putting him out. We had to ask for napkins and silverware, and my fork was already dirty, and our order was wrong, and the fajitas were tough. Needless to say, we will not be back. With all the wonderful restaurant choices in Dallas, you would think they would give service with a smile.

Yelp
Went to lunch with my parents before they left town. First time being on a Tuesday so go the taco bar which is an amazing deal. So much food that I have leftovers for a couple meals. Upgraded the ground beef to fajita steak which was a great decision. I usually get the steak fajitas here since the steak and flour tortillas are perfection. Good service and was able to get refills on all the sides for the taco bar.
google avatar

Mackenzie S.

Yelp
The happy hour deal on margaritas here is amazing!! I got a couple frozen margaritas and they were delicious and only $4 each!!! The rest of the experience was meh. Salsa is ok. Bartender underperformed. I ordered the fish tacos which had so much batter it felt like biting into a funnel cake. I had a nice display of food going, but really, I'd go elsewhere if I really wanted to enjoy everything.

Yelp
The good news about Uncle Julio's is that the food is tasty and fresh. The bad news is that tasty and fresh food isn't enough to stand out in a crowded Dallas restaurant market with plenty of competition. My dinner experience was pleasant enough and the service was as expected (friendly, competent). It's just that you can find a lot of better choices locally in my humble opinion.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Better than expected! The portion size is a little smaller than other Tex-Mex restaurants in the area, but the quality is on point! The fajitas were tasty and not too greasy. The chips were thin, light, and perfectly salted. I'll definitely be coming back here!

Yelp
We usually eat at the Allen location but had some business in Dallas so opted to eat at the Lemmon location. Big mistake! After waiting for nearly 10 minutes for anyone to even ask for our drink order we find out that they no longer serve the red salsa (the salsa that had the flavor). Now they serve a brown soupy flavorless crap and call it salsa. Our bowl of chips consisted of a few chips and a lot of crumbs. Husband ordered a margarita and had to ask for it a couple of times. I ordered fajitas like I normally do but this was a mistake as well. Meat was tough and over cooked. The tortillas were thick and small (think silver dollar pancake size). I asked for some regular size tortillas and was very rudely told no. Just a miserable experience from start to finish and it will be our last visit!

Yelp
Came with my mom for lunch and we were seated quickly with an attentive waitress. I ordered a guacamole appetizer and frozen strawberry margarita. I did enjoy both of these items prior to our food arriving. For my meal, I ordered the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas and with charro beans, rice. The fajitas came out sizzling, nicely cooked, and the charro beans had good flavoring to them. I can say their salsas (they have two) were very spot on and enjoyable. My mother did say she enjoyed her enchiladas. I do look forward to returning to try out other food and drink items.

Yelp
I ordered 3 Fajita Family meals for 4 for a work meeting ($293.) I did not get the correct meat, beans or tortillas resulting in some of our team to not be able to eat the lunch. Within 20 minutes of getting the order I called the restaurant and spoke with Mark the GM. Mark told me 3 times that I must have ordered from "some other site" even after I told him I ordered from the Uncle Julio's website. He repeated that his kitchen tickets show what someone orders correctly. Mark told me that I read the menu wrong - even after he looked at the Uncle Julio's website to see where the wording and options are incorrectly listed in regards to what prints on the kitchen ticket. Mark told me that it was out of his hands and I needed to call corporate because corporate took away the option to order BEEF FAJITAS. I have to say that was one of the silliest responses ever. I believe Mark could have heard me out, verified what the issue was, seen that the website vs his kitchen ticket was inconsistent and apologized for the issue, offered a partial refund or a credit for the trouble. Instead he took no responsibility and told me "I don't know where you ordered from", put me on hold for several minutes twice, asked me to verify my order repeatedly, blamed corporate with one of the most ridiculous excuses ever - what Mexican restaurant would think of removing beef fajitas from a menu? I have left 3 messages with the corporate messaging line yet no one has responded. I was able to talk with a catering manager that also looked at the website and found that the Lemmon location did not have the correct options listed. She said she would connect with the person that manages the menu on website and pass my contact info to guest relations. I just checked their site today and the buttons are correct - but no one has reached out to me. I am disappointed in their service from Mark at the restaurant to corporate guest relations.

Yelp
First timer at this restaurant it was a great experience food and drinks were amazing, also there the customer service was outstanding especially Mayra, all at the location off lemon ave.

Yelp
This is the OG Julio's. I have been visiting this location since 1988. Lots of things have changed, and it is definitely more of a chain atmosphere than it used to be, but the food is still very good. Great fajitas, grilled shrimp, and very good enchiladas and traditional Mexican food. A good place for Tex Mex, excellent margaritas and of course the original Swirls. Our server, Angelina, was awesome.

Jd A.

Yelp
I don't know why you would get rid of the fajita nachos. You had the best ones out of every place. You just lost a lifelong customer.

Yelp
We came to check this place out and we were doing OK until we realized the person waiting on us was just rude and careless. We did the Taco special that is advertised on their Instagram for Tuesdays, but the waiter failed to tell us there's a different charge for certain proteins. He basically tricked us and when the pricing wasn't right, he said "you never asked if there was an extra charge for the steak." I'm sorry, but I'm used to establishments with waiters who are experienced in customer service and would explain if there's an additional charge to any modifications or choices. He was just rude for absolutely no reason and when we brought it up, he was just nonchalant and blamed us instead of explaining what was going on and apologizing for not being thorough, which is pretty much his job, but it's not like the tacos were the best thing going. I would highly recommend going somewhere else. It just taste like gentrified, Mexican food and for the price you can go someplace authentic and a smaller food chain and get a better experience.

Yelp
love uncle julio's! i was invited to lunch with a friend of mine's, and its become my favorite taco salad spot! there are two types of salads i will always opt for: a taco salad or a cesar salad. uncle julio's taco salad, currently sits at number one on my list. their drinks are decent, but depending on what you order can be a little pricey. the staff can be hit or miss, but i havent had an awful experience, just not absolutely incredible... but they make up for it with that taco salad ive sat both inside and outside (before the weather cranked up to over 100). i preferred sitting outside, because when i sat inside there was an incredibly large group and they were equally loud. i understand the restaurant had no control over that... but it definitely cut my visit short. overall its a decent tex-mex place, and i have dined in and ordered takeout and the quality was the same both ways! if you are ever in the gheyborhood and in need of a margarita & chips + salsa, go to uncle julio's.

Yelp
I've eaten here for years and years. The service has definitely gone way downhill. I've never had the food runner basically throw the food out on the table. The table side guacamole (the appetizer) came after the food was thrown on the table. They told us they were in the middle of a shift change. As if we couldn't tell that we were obviously in your way and causing your staff an inconvenience. If it's that much of a problem during a shift change close the doors stop treating your customers like crap. I left a 10% tip, which I have never done in my life. My husband and I contemplated just getting up and walking out after the food was just thrown at us on the table. It's a real shame. The food is pretty decent here, but that whole staff needs to be retrained. It was a terrible experience.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
This restaurant service has been terrible for years with crazy turnover. We decided to give one more try. Better but not great. I left my sunglasses on the table, walked across the street and came back to get them, magically they disappeared. I spoke with the manager, who was no help. I called corporate and got no response. My fault for leaving them on the table, but I am 100% convinced the waitress took them. I know a liar when I see one. I hope she enjoys my glasses. I also hope management steps up and not only improve service, but hire better employees, starting with the manager.
google avatar

Punake O.

Yelp
The best chips and salsa in the 75219, not always the cleanest but truly the best and most consistent food quality out of all the franchises. I love that I never have to wait here, there's plenty of seating and the fajitas are so fire! The drinks aren't made well here but the food is always a hit! Parking is HARD to score here.
google avatar

Lynette G.

Yelp
Well, through no fault of my own, I returned to Uncle Julio's for a birthday lunch. It is as bad as the last time. Food came out cold and tasteless, even the salsa was without flavor and looked like red water - I even added salt and pepper, to no avail. I ordered the tortilla soup thinking how could that go wrong - by serving it COLD and no seasonings added. My niece returned her food for being cold, they nuked it and returned it. My cousin ordered the Mexican butter - they charged him $9.00 for butter - although corrected, they tried it! At this point, Uncle Julio's needs to go back to the drawing board and return to a time that there food would come to the table sizzling, full of flavor and ready to eat. This was my last ditch effort for Uncle Julio's!
google avatar

Natalia J.

Yelp
Uncle Julio's happy hour is always a win for me, especially if you snag a spot at the bar. Trust me, it's the best place to be there's always good energy, and the bartenders know how to keep the drinks flowing. I popped in recently for happy hour, and as usual, it didn't disappoint. The free queso is a solid start it's creamy, flavorful, and pairs perfectly with the fresh, crispy chips. It's a nice touch that sets the tone before you dive into the rest of the menu. I went with their signature skinny margaritas, and they were strong, smooth, and just the right amount of sweet. If you're more of a cocktail person, there's an option with three tequilas. The bar menu has some great options if you're feeling snacky: the chicken quesadillas are always a hit, loaded with melted cheese and perfectly grilled. The table side guacamole is a must-try too it's made fresh and packed with flavor. Great food, strong drinks, and a laid-back, fun atmosphere--can't go wrong here!

Yelp
Our street walk led us to Uncle Julio's, a vibrant Mexican eatery where the atmosphere was as chilled as the margaritas we were about to enjoy. Just as we got comfortable at our outdoor table, we were greeted by Jason, our charismatic waiter, sporting a mustache that was a work of art. With enthusiasm, he guided us through the menu - we selected delectable shrimp dishes and colorful drinks. When our orders arrived, the food was simply divine. Every bite was a symphony of flavors from the skillfully prepared Mexican food. Jason ensured our dining experience was amazing. Attentive, friendly, and always ready with a smile, elevating our meal to an unforgettable experience - from the moment we sat down to the very last bite of our chocolate piñata dessert. After the piñata experience, it was time to say our goodbyes to Uncle Julio's, and we swiftly moved on to our next item on the TO DO list...

Kevin T.

Yelp
Went there with one of our Mexican coworkers and was blown away. I had always shied away from small places like this, but my mind has been changed. I had the chicken enchilada and it was delicious. Just the right amount of heat for me and so tender and flavorful. Wish they were closer to me and I'd make it a regular. Super happy find...!

Sebina M.

Yelp
I understand now why they say everything is bigger in Texas! Everything was great. Huge portions. If you want a spicy margarita they will definitely make it spicy! Beware! The fajitas were amazing and came with plenty of sides! Definitely check this place out if you're in the area.

Wood S.

Yelp
Bartender sent a "frozen" swirl margarita to the table that was already 90% melted. That means it had been sitting behind the bar for a significant amount of time.

Yelp
We arrived around 1:30 for a late lunch. Keith was our server and he was beyond excellent! He was personable and helpful. Thank you, Keith! I ordered the shrimp tacos and asked if the beans and rice are vegetarian- he said no but that he had a substitution. Perfect! Then we waited. And waited. And waaaaiiiited. Once the food arrived by a different employee, I knew immediately by looking at the beans that they contained pork. I asked him if they were vegetarian and he replied "no" and looked at the ticket. He chuckled and said he would take the plate back and give me the vegetarian option. Why the chuckle? Once that was fixed, I enjoyed the food. The shrimp was seasoned well. My friends enjoyed their food. The negatives- an employee was pushing a cart constantly with clean dishes on the tiled floor, so it was LOUD. The bathroom was straight out of the 1980s. It was dirty with cracked tiles and stinky. Nasty! The parking is a nightmare. Maybe 16 spots and they are narrow. They then have other parking spots that are valet only, so they make a killing off of these. Shame on them for doing this!

Yelp
Pricey, but good for special occasions. Great salsa, chips, swirls. Miss the frog legs. Had a great time.

Waleska R.

Yelp
Service was terrible. Bartender was rude. Asked if they had a gluten free menu available and waiter never asked. When she came back to ask for my order, I reminded her and she said no, I do t think so. My food took over 40 minutes to arrive. Everyone in my party was already done eating. Most of the parking is roped off for "valet" even though we found out later that it was free. Most of the party went to the bar to order drinks due to happy hour only offered at the bar area and were told they weren't allowed until they paid their food bill. Very sketchy place.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm not sure what happened to this place, but my partners memories of it certainly reflect that it has gone downhill from when he lived and regularly ate here in the late 90s/early 2000s until now. We went in for lunch and were seated promptly. The decor was nice and we ordered drinks. He ordered a swirl, something he always missed after moving away from Dallas. Weak margarita. Uh oh. Not a good sign. Chips and salsa were brought to the table. I ordered enchiladas. The salsa. Meh. I grew up in south east texas...so this is kind of a red flag. He tasted it too. Meh? He ordered the chicken fajitas. Our food came. Portions were smaller considering the price. My food was okay, he enjoyed his, but had to ask for more because I guess everything feels a la carte now. Leaving a mexican restaurant hungry when spending over 50 bucks before a tip seems...bad. He came for the nostalgia...but there's better mexican food in Dallas.
google avatar

Yelp
A 3 is an accurate rating. (Referencing what the restaurant is currently) Swirl margarita tastes good. No buzz. $10 Queso blanco with meat small ($8.50 + 2). It was spicy. Tasted like they poured taco seasoning in it. I would order again but wouldn't be mad if I didn't get it again. Birria quesadillas $15.50- spicy. They were pretty good though. I didn't finish them. I asked for flour instead of corn. The waitress claimed I didn't. That I asked for corn. Anyway- it didn't have a "corny" taste. Thnk Gd Beef enchiladas were okay. Cold as hell in there Sat at the bar because my purse was too big for the table. There are hooks at the bar. Bathroom stall didn't have a purse hook to accommodate my purse. That was uncomfortable.
google avatar

Randall E.

Yelp
We have enjoyed Uncle Julio's for decades. Today was an absolute melt down of their excellent service. We were told the kitchen was slow so that was understood from the beginning. However, 20 mins to get a cup of queso, never asked is we wanted drinks (just had water brought out 10 mins after seating; the food was shockingly poor. Fajitas beef with shrimp wrapped in bacon. Bacon had white fat and well cooked shrimp, tortilla were not served in the container with a towel or paper and street sized (very small) and chicken nachos with meat on some but not all nachos. We spoke with a person that was a manager and his first comment was "I'm sorry you feel that way". Wow! He should not be a manager. No ask if he could fix our food just stood there agreeing the food was not right. But the nachos was just a " not spread correctly" across the 6 chips. Just don't go. The front of house did tell us a corporate franchisee bought the place back in January. There are so many other great places in Oak Lawn to go. Don't make the mistake we made.

Yelp
I returned to give them another try after a prompt response from the manager after my last review. The regular bartenders were there and the Strawberry margaritas were back to their previous standard as were the entrees! So glad to see this since this is a frequent spot for us. I am guessing we caught them on an off night. So glad to see issues were addressed. Went back tonight and dined outside. Food was upto the usual standard but service was very disappointing. Food delivery was uncoordinated delayed. Manager did come by early in the evening during appetizers but never returned for feedback. Waiter was friendly but would disappear inside. In addition, after we paid with credit card he left with the card terminal before my friend added the tip. As we were leaving my friend asked for a receipt and noticed there was a 25% tip added. In summary, food is back to par but table service is very inconsistent. Recommend sitting at the bar where service is always much better.

Cee G.

Yelp
Unfortunately not only is the food subpar, there's also dishonest waitstaff who work here as well. I stopped in here Mother's Day weekend for a quick bite to eat my son as we ran errands. He got a kids meal and I had an appetizer nacho with a beer. The waiter was not welcoming nor tentative to what we needed. I watched him refill the next tables soda at least 2 times, as we didn't even have napkins. I left a small tip to round my bill to the next dollar amount only to see a few days later on my bank statement I was charged an additional $10. When I called to rectify the situation I was told by the manager that although I had written out the amount in the total the dollar sign was mistaken as different amount for tip. I was offered a $25 gift certificate to come back a redine. Hmph.
google avatar

Monica J.

Yelp
Poor food presentation Must be under new owners. Tortillas tasted like dough and were gritty. We ordered fajitas for 2 and it looked like we ordered for 1. Mother ordered fajitas for 1 and she had more meat than we did. Their cloth napkins stank so bad. Then I get notification to rate etc. yet there was a problem and wouldn't upload

Kacee R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants. I usually eat at the one in TN. While on a trip to Dallas, I realized they had several locations here. I loved the food and the service was great.

Went for late lunch on a Monday. The margaritas were average. Bar service was average. We got a side of guacamole and that was truly the high point of lunch. I tried the Mexican Caesar salad and it had really good flavor. My lunch mate ordered a side of rice and beans and they were really dry and not very good at all. So an average lunch overall.

Yelp
UPDATE 5/2023: *The valet STILL hogs up 90%+ of the lot!!!!!! So, your offer to fix this, was fluff; as expected. If you drive beyond the sign saying 'STOP valet only', there are plenty of spots behind the restaurant , but the valet guy will tail you and confront you telling you it's valet parking only! We took our money elsewhere. --------------------- Valet company hogs almost the entire lot, thus inconveniencing the customers. I know space is limited, but when your valet guys cone off 90% of the spaces, that is just rude. Food is good. Edit: REPLY: I appreciate the response, but this has been YEARS & YEARS of valet abuse, so as nice as your response is, I know it will not change. But thank you. 1 Share Response from the owner 3 years ago Hello Kevin, We appreciate your feedback and apologize that the parking experience is not seamless. We have sent this to our teams who will further address and we hope to serve you again for an improved experience. Thank you, Uncle Julio's

Yelp
This was my first time trying Uncle Julio's. I've heard mixed reviews but this location was close to us and we just wanted a quick bite and drink. We sat at the bar and received pretty good service from the bartenders. We decided to order the swirl. My originally thought was to get the Julio margarita and I probably should've went with that. The swirl was decent. It was pre made frozen mix so not as strong as I would've liked but not horrible! We ordered the chicken tacos to share because my friend doesn't eat beef or pork. I was eyeing the birria tacos and might come back to try them just to see how they taste. The chicken tacos were okay. Chicken grilled well but slightly dry. Tortillas nothing special. Definitely added hot sauce to spice it up. Just a decent taco.. nothing great at all. Would be willing to try some other menu items I spotted just to see if they are worthy of coming back since there are a few locations close to me.

Yelp
I can't write enough about all delicious this place is and how stellar the service is. I've gone back several times and have yet to be disappointed. My go to is the Quesa-Birria. You have to try it at least once. NOM NOM The quesadillas are also legit and a good go to when you don't know what to get. The soup options are a great treat on the occasional cold Dallas day. The staff are kind, efficient, knowledgeable and funny.

Yelp
I have come here before but I don't know what it was about today but the service was not up to par. I ordered their steak fajita bowl (which is my usual, so I know how it tastes) I made a few modifications of no corn or grape tomatoes and beans on the side. As I am giving my order to the waiter he begins to take the order down and I understand as a server that it is essential to write modifications down. Yall tell me why he wrote all of that down just to get it wrong. The items I wanted he didn't bring and the item I didn't want he did bring. What was the point of writing it down if it was going to come out wrong? The steak tasted gross and to me honestly tasted freezer burnt Anywho, like I said I typically enjoy myself here but idk who they had in that kitchen today but it was not it. I did order "The Swirl" it wasn't all that.

Yelp
House-made tortilla - check Complimentary salsa + chips - check Fajitas jam-packed with flavor - check Really, everything you need from a Tex Mex restaurant is at Uncle Julio's. I don't fully endorse the margs or the queso (the cheese got super filmy super quickly and the margs were a little womp womp), but everything else was tasty as can be! The service was slow and little underwhelming as well, I feel like we had our server stumped all night with simple requests which was bizzare and he avoided us after a miscommunication in drinks (I guess the frozen margarita machine was down?) Altogether it was a fun spot, I loved my meal, and even though it was a little pricey for Tex Mex I think it is worth it.

Yelp
The Whitest Mexican food I've ever eaten. Seriously. When I tell you my taco was literally a taco supreme from Taco Bell, I'm not kidding. The aesthetics are nice & servers/manager are great, but the food is a 2/10. The chips tasted like chemicals & the table side guac was liquid. Ground beef for a taco? Is this for real? Margs were okay.

Yelp
Really good food and possibly the best I've had since moving to Texas. Uncle Julio's is my go to for sure

Yelp
My boyfriend and I wanted to enjoy a nice dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant, the host at the stand was annoyed that we were there and gave us attitude. Then it took 15 min for our server to arrive at our table. She (Stormi) was polite at first....but she was way more worried about her side work than her customers. She took my glass and was going to fill up my drink, but she forgot and didn't bring it back until half way through our meal. When she arrived at the table she did not ask if our meal was well or if we needed anything. We ate our meal, and not once did she come by to ask if we needed anything or if the food tasted well. I know what you're thinking, she had other tables....but she did not, we were her only table. As soon as she noticed we were done, she brought the ticket over and went here's the ticket. Yet again not asking if we needed anything or if our meal was well. The manager...or what I'm assuming is the manager did not come by and see if we needed anything and seemed annoyed that customers were in the building. All of the servers were hiding in the back and seemed annoyed to be at work. The overall ambiance was very dull and hostile. I will never go back to another Uncle Julio's again, even if it was free.

Yelp
I wish I could give them 5 stars but the menu and drink options have significantly changed. Service -Given the pandemic, the competition is getting heated with more restaurants competing for fewer, wary patrons. It's incumbent on the manager to ensure his/her staff is on their A game. Leaving tables waiting for drinks (even water!) or appetizers is not good. What happened when there were more customers and service was amazing at Uncle Julio's? Drinks -Their famous and signature "Swirl" is now a puddle in a kiddie mug. Paying $13 for a drink that used to be in a big schooner is not acceptable. Bring it back! Kudos to everyone wearing face masks. Parking -Very tight on space so plan accordingly.
