Google
Just ordered from them and they gave us the saddest looking chicken. Left feathers on the skin, pale and just sad looking. The taste was off as well. Never coming back!

Google
The costco chicken tastes better . Their lomo wasn't good either. Waitress is rude plus their bathroom wasn't clean . They share a/c with another store so place is very hot. They automatically take out tip money on the bill. Place is just trash.

I am writing to share my experience during a recent dinner at your establishment, which was recommended by my mother-in-law. While the meal was ok, I was disappointed with the service from our waitress, who did not seem pleasant. However, what compelled me to write this review was the condition of the bathroom. Unfortunately, it was the most disgusting bathroom I have ever encountered. The smell was unbearable, reminiscent of a cramped animal cage, and the overall cleanliness was unacceptable. What troubled me further was that my three-year-old child refused to use the facility due to the overwhelming odor. It is concerning that such a state of hygiene exists in a public space. I believe the owner should take this issue seriously, as it reflects poorly on the establishment as a whole. It appears that the bathroom may not have been cleaned in a long time. I urge you to take pride in your business and address these cleanliness issues promptly. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Google
I’ve been here numerous times with my family but something has changed here in a horrible way usually I feel bad giving a 1 star but this restaurant just straight up deserved it. The chicken and steak were tasteless & my Dog probably could’ve made a better meal. The overall energy just feels like a scam for employees before customers= no service, eat with plastic utensils and enjoy our leftovers heated up in the microwave with the only thing being fresh our employees attitudes. HORRIBLE ! I’m Peruvian and this is not a fair representation of our culture’s food.

Google
Hidden Gem! A must try! I am not from Peru but I am in love with their food. One of the greatest cuisines in the world, especially at Uncle Paulie's. Also,Very attentive waitress. She made me feel right at home 😊

Claudia Gomez

Google
I sent my boyfriend in to get the food. Haven’t even tried the food yet but everything 1 star. My boyfriend who unlike me doesn’t speak Spanish, went in to get the food. They only talked to him in Spanish despite him clearly not able to speak the language. Rolled their eyes at him and just started at their phones. No hello, hi, or thank you. 1 star review, I’ll put anyone in their place.

Google
Uncle Paulie’s would get 5 stars for the price and food if it were only okay, but instead they insist on being categorically excellent. Every dish was executed so well, and meals here are priced so that this place can be a weeknight dinner spot with the quality of a special occasion meal.

Google
We were driving back home to the city and decided to take a detour for dinner in order to avoid the traffic on the GW Bridge and came upon this little hidden gem of a restaurant. I have to admit it didn’t look like much from the outside and my wife didn’t like the AC blowing directly on her but a table switch later and we were good to go! I had the Seco de Res and my wife had the Aji de Gallina and both dishes were very well portioned and tasty. I’m from Lima so I get to be a bit picky and this place certainly gets my seal of approval!

Yelp
Great Peruvian rotisserie chicken spot. The steak chaufa rice was also really good. Food tasted fresh and service was quick. Take out or dine in. Prices are reasonable for the potions.

Carl C.

Yelp
Paulie, either throw in the towel or get your act together mijo. The place looks like a crime scene from Law & Order and you've chased dine-in customers away perfectly well. As for the food and take out service, your cheap as ever and I would rather you raise prices than compromise what had always been a Best of Bergen value. your amazing green sauce is so watered down that it's better off as a shot at a bar.

Yelp
After the snowstorm we wanted to sit down and have a good hot meal and it just didn't turn out that way. The soup we ordered tasted delicious, but was served warm. Service was good but we had one happy waitress, and one who seemed like she didn't want to be there. We ordered our main course which I wouldn't recommend the Churrasco steak which had a funky taste to it. My wife's pepper steak was delicious and served hot but my rice and beans were also cold. Nice little place and maybe will try again in the future hopefully for a better outcome.

Alex L.

Yelp
I don't know who the girl is behind the counter who works the register but her attitude is terrible & she needs to learn how to talk to customers. If you're not happy with your job then she should quit!!

Wesley R.

Yelp
The food is still delicious and that's the only thing that keeps this place open because the front desk service is horrible and very shady with the charges especially when you order takeout. Come with cash but the owner should really think of training the staff or getting rid of them.

Lizzy T.

Yelp
Terrible Peruvian food. We came right at opening and got take out, it tastes like it was leftovers from yesterday. Horrible. Everything was dry. We ordered arroz chaufa with chicken, half chicken that literally was the smallest 2 pieces of chicken we've ever seen, yucca fries and fried sweet plantains, both looked like they were made last week in an air fryer and then reheated for today. I would not recommend.

Magda M.

Yelp
I gave the 3 stars just because of the service, but not the food , I bought a whole chicken came about to 15.50 the chicken was hot a bit on the dry side but the thing I'm most upset with is the seasoning there's no flavor and no spices . They do offer two cobra of green sauce along with the chicken to I guess help the flavor but unfortunately the flavor is not there and the sauce does not help either . The place was clean a bit cluttered. They have 15 min parking spots outside .

Paula D.

Yelp
A family member of mine has celiac disease. Ask for gluten free chaufa with the rotisserie chicken....amazing even if you don't have celiac disease it is delicious. Everything is delicious.

Joanne M.

Yelp
The food is absolutely delicious. While in Peru we had this chicken and it's 99% the same. Wonderful flavor, juicy, with lots of sides, salad, rice, and white beans, even tostones. The service is wonderful. They are very accomodating. The cut the chicken in quarters for us. Since covid you can't eat inside, it's only take out but that's fine, because it's so good. We will be back for our 3rd time very soon.

Mel W.

Yelp
We love Uncle Paulie's. We order from here at least once a month and are never disappointed. The restaurant isn't very close by to us but they will deliver a little outside their normal range if you spend $50 or more. The staff is always very friendly and the delivery guy actually helped me carry all the bags (including a bunch of Amazon boxes) inside my house. So far, they have not messed our order up, even when we request changes to the meals (such as more of an ingredient or substitutes). The prices are very reasonable and we can usually get 2 meals out of each entrée.

Juno D.

Yelp
The lady behind the counter was obnoxious and extremely rude. I had a question regarding the ingredients about an order I placed, she told me (with a terrible attitude) that she had no idea. She continued to be rude and dismissed me. I am never going back to this place and will not recommend to any of my friends. This is a no frill restaurant - wanted it patronize it but sadly, they lost a good customer.

Kathleen C.

Yelp
I love this place since it's a local Peruvian rotisserie. I really loved their shrimp chaufa but I wanted to order their combo special for $25 which includes a chaufa (regular chicken or beef or veggie), avocado salad, a whole chicken & a liter soda. Their chicken was delicious, juicy & well cooked. I got chicken chaufa & the chicken pieces are chunky. I loved the green sauce & drizzle it all over the rice, you must ask for extra!! Avocado salad has a yellow sauce that is also very tasty.. next time, I must ask what they're made of. With taxes, this filling delectable family meal comes to about $28. I say it's a good buy when you don't feel like cooking to impress because it's already done for you! Will return.. and everyday there's a lunch special. Aim for the lomo saltado day :P

Mayur B.

Yelp
This place is my go to place for lunch time Peruvian food. It's got an excellent lunch special. I get the pollo saltado. It is cooked well and has the right balance of chicken to fries to tomatoes. It comes with the green sauce which also is great. Just wish they would give 2 since the portion size is large. You also get a Salad or soup on the side. The salad has a vinegary green dressing which sets up the palate well. The lunch special also comes with a drink. Huge portions, great flavor, and good price. Can't ask for more.

Melanie C.

Yelp
The food is so absolutely delicious My family and I have been going there for 10 years Kinda sucks that you can sit down to eat anymore but nonetheless their lunch combo is unbeatable Friendly staff

Michele D.

Yelp
I have noticed food is hit or miss here. I have had some good dishes and some bad. I do not recommend the seco de carne. Although in my pic it might look delicious, it was not edible. It was so tough! Disappointed! Stick with arroz chaufa there! Staff is nice, small dining area.

Danielle W.

Yelp
Everything I have ordered here has been super delicious and flavorful! I cannot recommend both the Wrap Con Aji De Gallina or the Pollo Saltado enough!

Ken S.

Yelp
I always get combos and seems like a decent deal. Love the chicken and all the sides. I got to try items outside of The combo. I'll update when i do!

Sam G.

Yelp
This place used to be good with generous portions and real Peruvian taste but now they are very cheap with the ingredients, the chaufa years ago was excellent with scallion onions, scrambled eggs, a lot pieces of meat and the perfect amount the Peruvian soy sauce (siyau)...now is almost white rice !!? The ceviche portion everything is smaller and bunch of roasted corn called canchita....please don't put inside !! The food still is good and will be delicious again if the owner stop being cheap with ingredients and charging clients for the green sauce $50 cents each small container that is almost empty and I know the ingredients to prepare this sauce and the cost is low. DONT BE CHEAP I return always here because is in my neighborhood otherwise I don't return.

Roberto M.

Yelp
Terrible service the worst they served the food in a containers to go that is very unprofessional if you want to sell just food Togo just put a sign at the door Just Togo orders and customers will diside if they want to order or not

Jase J.

Yelp
Since the pandemic, this place has gone downhill, the Lomo meat has a lot of fat which can't be chewed. The Papa A La Huancaina sauce is watery. I gave it 1 star just to post it on Yelp but honestly I wouldn't give it a star. Tia Delia here I come...

Anuj P.

Yelp
Great food at great prices! Chicken, rice and beans with that green sauce!!!!!! That's all you need. Boom! $7.99 lunch specials that you will never go wrong with. Great value that shows and allows you to feel the soul of the place. Great people who get it and want you to have lots of yummy food at the price everyone can afford.

Priscilla A.

Yelp
Had a extremely upsetting Mother's day experience with this restaurant! DO NOT ORDER from them. They do not have their business together! After having ordered from them a couple of times in the past- I order for Mother's day based on the prices on the online catering website! When I go to check my credit card statement- the amount was substantially more than what was advertised online. When I call to dispute... they claim they changed their prices a month ago and haven't gotten to doing so online. They have new women training and they apologize. An apology is not accepted. I understand food prices have gone up- but you have to be TRANSPARENT and not STEAL folks hard earned money. I could have ordered from a different location and gotten better food for the price I was charged! Terrible business and liars! Totally, ruined my mother's day!

Alex D.

Yelp
One of the best rotisserie chickens in the area. The inside is not fancy by any means and they only have a couple of tables for sit down but it's fantastic for takeout.

Tina C.

Yelp
Their green sauce is AMAZING! I am a huge fan of their rotisserie chicken lunch special that comes with rice, beans, green sauce, soup or salad and a drink for a whopping $8 and tax. The chicken is always fresh and moist, and I love the flavor of the beans. The place is tiny, but that's where you get the best food. I've never had anything else here, and to be honest, I don't feel the need to because the rotisserie chicken is warm, soul hugging food. Support this small, local business and try it out! Lunch menu is available M-F from 11 to 2:30-ish, but they also serve the chicken and rice for $6 on the regular menu.

S A.

Yelp
Not the Peruvian flavor you are looking for ! 1-Delivery took about 70 minutes 2- food was cold upon arrival 3-rotisserie chicken looked uncooked 4- ordered papa la huancaina ! Threw it out they made the sauce with Feta ! I am not sure exact flavor but that was not How it should be .... ( awful) 5- ordered fried Wonton - I can't even explain how bad they were + the Sauce was tomato /marinara sauce ( it was supposed to be Tamarind sauce ) I gave it 1 star because there is no 0 stars . THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT PERUVIAN !

Virginia T.

Yelp
I hate to give this place a 3 star rating because myself and my family are so fond fo Paulie. I have been coming here for years and although its not the best Peruvian food it hits the spot when we dont want to go to NYC. (Id rather go to NY any day than Passaic or Paterson-sorry) Anyhow-we decided to go today and it was pretty quiet when we arrived around 5pm. We placed our order with a server that was just OK. I say this because she got our order right, she knew the food which was great but she lacked customer service or perhaps was having a bad day. We ordered Jalea, chicharron de pescado and lo saltado along with 3 chichas. The chichas were delish as always! The food was hot and quite plentiful but boy was it SALTY. At first. Thought it was just the jalea. Nope.. same saltiness for the chicharron de pescado, the lomo saltado AND the green sauce!! Again.. I hate to leave this review but I hope Paulie sees this or someone tells him. Even my husband agreed with the seasoning and he likes salt in everything. I hope things shape up around there or we will not be returning. Im afraid other customers will stop going for the same reason. Good luck guys.

Rosemary I.

Yelp
I ordered a tray of arroz chaofa for a work party. They delivered the tray of food and it was delicious. Everyone was so excited and asked where it came from. It was tasty and fresh and seasoned deliciously. Definitely will be ordering again from this place.

Timo L.

Yelp
I recently found this small place and ordered takeout since the tables are removed during pandemic times. The plate of chicken was delicious, so succulent and perfectly marinated. I have since returned for pickup and am pleased with the generous portions of good hearty food at Paulie's.

James F.

Yelp
Great price. Good Food. Poor Service. If I had to individually rate each one of these it would be: 5 Stars for Price - $23.71 for a dinner for two includes a whole chicken, maduros, rice and beans, avocado salad, and two Bottles of water. 3.5 Stars for Food: our rotisserie chicken was served to us fried. We asked the waitress if it was in fact fried and she pretty much lied to our face. It was tasty though - but not when your dieting. 1 Star for Service - rude... liar... rude... attitude... rude. We had to call her out on her behavior, which helped for a fleeting moment.

Chloe K.

Yelp
The food here is good. Especially Arroz Chaufa and chicken soup. But the service is horrible, horrible costumer service and bad attitude. Came here twice in the past and both times they messed up on my order even when I asked for them to review it back to me to confirm. I decided on coming today. But honestly, it doesn't seem like it's worth my rime to deal with horrible service. Also, charging more for a small container of sauce. Especially after you were rude and forgot our order and still haven't made or even started on it.

Anna F.

Yelp
Avoid this place. It smells like feet in there and there's no room for anyone. The staff is super rude. I thought at least the food would be good and worth it but no!! The beans taste awful ... they tasted like chick peas. He Maduros were incredibly watery :( and the chicken of all things was dry and had no taste. Hope this place closes down ... I shouldn't have to wait 30 mins for absolute crap

Joe E.

Yelp
Great food very reasonable prices Right now only take out The roast chicken is wonderful

Almog Y.

Yelp
Their ceviche is AMAZING had like like 4 times in the last few weeks. Lunch specials r awesome as well Keep going there again and again and the owner is always there what's promising you the quality is always at its best lol ( super cool guy )

Patti F.

Yelp
What happened to this place? Used to be superb. I have noticed that when the owner is not there, the food is not as good. The Causa de pollo did not come with the egg or the veggies on top last night. The wait staff are not personable. This food isn't cheap so you should put your best face on and be pleasant at the very least. The chicken dish we ordered tasted like fish. Ugh!

Brandon L.

Yelp
I love coming to Uncle Paulies when I swing by North Jersey. It's a nice small mom and pop Peruvian restaurant that never has a shortage of patrons coming in to eat or do takeouts. I've been coming here for a couple years now and the food never disappoints. My go to dishes that I order every time is Ceviche mixto, lomo saltado, and a half roasted chicken. And since I am huge fan of ceviche I'll usually ask them to give me the Leche de Tigre. This is pretty much the milk and juices of the ceviche with some chunks of fish within a cup. I will drink that all day everyday. The portions here are pretty decent and priced out very reasonably. I recommend that if your in the area, definitely swing by and be amazed.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Great portions, fresh fresh fresh, scrumptious sides, reasonable prices!

Enzo T.

Yelp
Don't get a ceviche, the fish tasted old and it kinda looked prepackaged. The fish was already cooked, more than likely boiled. THATS NOT HOW YOU MAKE CEVICHE!!!!!!!! Fucking disgusting. I literally couldn't eat it due to the disgusting smell of the old lime and boiled tilapia. I got a 1/4 chicken with fries and salad and a ceviche de pescado, 25 dollars is a bit steep. The ceviche was bad and smelled horrid but the chicken was actually hilarious. It wasn't cooked correctly and it was completely tasteless. The fries were mush. The right way to cook French fries is so let them steep in water, maybe throw some flour or cornstarch to keep them crunchy and to sap all the water out. They literally cut potatoes and throw them in the fryer, they sit in their own starch and don't cook, they just become floppy gross semi mashed potato slits. Their food was okay at a certain point but this isn't Peruvian. It's just some bad cook's way of taking shortcuts. The service was great but also weird, two people were great with me and they asked if everything was okay, gave me sauces i wanted and were kind. Wish it could compliment the food but it didn't even help the fact that i got disgusting food. I'd rather go to Passaic and literally pick any other restaurant, spend 5 dollars less and get twice the food amount. This was a huge waste of money. All i got is completely inedible food.

D J.

Yelp
Good food for the price, however, really bad customer service. Extremely rude cashier. The one with darker hair. Ordered delivery, they forgot items and didn't get order correct. Then said the driver was to far for them to correct my order and deliver the missing item. They made me come in to correct my delivery order. Than, gave me attitude, because I stressed my frustration. Than, refunded to issue a return and refund. I will never order from there again!

Lindsey S.

Yelp
They used to have some of the best Peruvian until a few years ago. Slowly the quality of food started to subside. The pollo a la brasa was rock hard when we got it. The papa la hauncaina is not spicy anymore.

Jeanna G.

Yelp
I have seen the sign for Uncle Paulie's for quite some time now and it will easily become one of my new favorite spots to grab a bite after the other night! Came in here the other day with my friend who has been here before so she ordered up a delicious meal for us. We ended up ordering a whole rotisserie chicken with 4 beef empanadas along with chaufa with chicken and steak. The chicken was cut into 4 huge sections and had the most delicious tasting skin and was extremely moist! They give you this green sauce that I put on everything and it was a flavor explosion! It added a nice little trace of heat to my entire meal! The empanadas were absolutely my favorite part of this meal, flaky empanada skin filled with shredded beef and a piece of hard boiled egg to set it off! The chaufa I was a little skeptical about being that who has ever heard of Peruvian fried rice... but that shit was BANGIN! The rice was loaded with flavor from both the chicken and the steak along with the little bits of fried egg in it. The restaurant itself is very small but has about 10 tables I have yet to experience eating in the restaurant but one thing I must say was that they were very fast and efficient. The ladies behind the counter were very pleasant and I can't wait to come back for my next experience!

Edwin R.

Yelp
Uncle Paulie is the place to be when you're in Paramus, NJ!! Man, their servings are huge!! I mean, REALLY GINORMOUS! I ordered their 1/2 chicken rotisserie and it came with a huge side of rice plate and beans. Then, I ordered a side of banana plantain for only $3 bucks! That puppy was also GINORMOUS and it was sooo good! Top that, I even ordered their FLAN which was fantastic. So rich and creamy. I think I've gained a few pounds right after, but well worth the added love handles!! Hahaha... Here's the best part, my bill only came out to about $18 including my Peruvian "Inca Cola!" They even deliver to your hotel too, what more can you ask for? Great service and fast!! Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

James C.

Yelp
this place was jammed when i ordered pick up. now i know why. the food was spot on delicious. we had the go to chaufa and a chicken dish w cream and potatoes. even busy, the owner was super friendly and attentive. if this place was closer to my house it would def be in the weekly rotation. Uncle Paulies, you can be my tio any day. In!

Chris Q.

Yelp
Don't go if you are trying to keep a schedule. Went in and ordered and told it would be ready in 15 minutes. No big deal for a quarter chicken with rice and a Papa Rellena. Then 20 minutes go by and 25 and 30 and 40, still no update. 45 minutes oh it will be a couple of more minutes. REALLY I ordered 45 minutes ago. People who ordered after me are out of the restaurant with their food. I don't care how good the food maybe if you can't get shit done in a timely fashion and all I get is a Sorry. That is not poor customer service. It goes beyond that. I will not go back and gave my food to some random person on the street. Have a wonderful day.

Kat R.

Yelp
My sister lives in Bergenfield and she says she doesn't have many restaurants to choose from. We drove here one day because she said it is really good. I have had Peruvian food from other places and this place doesn't seem authentic at all. It's just ok. Fries were greasy and the green sauce doesn't taste like authentic Peruvian green sauce. The chicken is just basic kind of lacked flavor. Service was quick and food also came out fast but the waitress didn't even ask what part of the chicken I wanted and I actually didn't want the white meat, but that is what I got. Glad I don't live in the area so I don't have to go back.

Alfonselis T.

Yelp
They are lucky to get a 1 star review. The owner is so rude. The is food is not even authentic Peruvian food. I will never order from this place again

Maurice M.

Yelp
Great food but dont water down the green sauce please. Make more if its popular but dont add water

Raj S.

Yelp
Nice and filling food but I have had in other Peruvian places and this one is not better . Love their lomo . Empanadas were ok. Not super special. Nice and quick service. Overall it's ok for once a month eat.

Darlene P.

Yelp
The best chicken ever! We got take out tonight and it was amazing! They could not have been nicer. We got a special that included a whole rotisserie chicken, salad, a liter of soda, a fried rice dish with chicken and the sauce that comes with the chicken is amazing!!

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
I came here on a whim after the gym for what I was hoping good chicken. It's not really what I was expecting...Let me start off by talking about the restaurant itself: It's a small place located in Maywood, right across from the maywood pancake house. I didn't expect the place to be fancy or anything so it wasn't a surprise to see it being a small restaurant that's more homey. I came here in a Saturday night around 7 and it was pretty packed. There were a lot of take out orders at the register and a few families sitting in to dine. I had ordered the quarter chicken with rice and beans. The chicken really wasn't what I had expected...it's was very dry, but a good portion. If it wasn't so dry it would've been amazing because the wing of the chicken was absolutely delicious. The rice and beans were ok...some of the rice was hard, making me think it's a couple of days old (not sure if this is a cultural thing to have hard rice)? The beans weren't too bad. I mixed the rice and beans together and picked at the chicken. There's two different types of rice I believe (white rice and what I presume to be Spanish rice). I can't say I've had many Peruvian food before but I had higher expectations with this place. *please note this review was not to offend cultural food but a simple review of the restaurant*
