Uncle Remus Saucy Fried Chicken

Before I get started I’m from the south side so I’m basically pro Harold’s. The chicken was decent but seasoned like Harold’s with a kind of sweet mild sauce. I’m not gonna lie the sauce kinda hit but Harold’s mild sauce is undefeated. We got our food pretty fast. It was fresh and hot. The price in my opinion was kinda high but I was happy to support.

Go to Harold Chicken instead. Here the sauce is way too sweet and they don't tell you they pick it on automatically unless requested otherwise. It was just plain awful 😔

The best way to eat okra! One of Uncle Remus' best sides is the fried okra! I added their famous mild sauce to my fried okra every time! My favorite! ❤️

Drove by it a week ago and thankfully it sounded so good it popped back in my head to drive again to it a week later 30 miles away! The sauce hits PERFECTLY with the chicken being thoroughly cooked and the tenderness keeps the spices in place! The fries are amazing (me being a fry guy) and the price was just as good as the food! could add a little more to the atmosphere but being more take out vibes, it still is a great place to take a break during errands and have some great Chicago food! The pieces of chicken were super hefty where it was the right amount of filling! 50 out of 10 in my opinion. Will be returning ASAP!

Their food was really good. I got the fish and chicken. They would have gotten five stars except my chicken breast. Did not have any skin and was a little dry but the swai fish was delicious. Very crispy light, just wonderful. Would definitely ordering the fish again.

I have known Charmaine for years and I have to say they are still doing it! I had a taste for some wings for lunch and I haven't eaten fried wings in so long, but I had to go back to my old fave. I ordered via Door Dash, but after my meal, I had to call the store to let them know the wings were so delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection as well. Uncle Remus has been around this long for a good reason! Continued success, Charmaine!

After waiting an hour for my food- you would have thought it was fresh right? Well absolutely not! It was chaos from the moment I sat down to wait on my order. Another guest drop something on the floor and was told that management had it- the so called lawd hav mercy looking manager was giving the guy a hard time- he just wanted his package so he could go! But seems like they wanted it for themselves or herself- even talked about the gentleman after giving in because he made it clear he wasn’t leaving w/o it! Like it’s not that serious you manage a business and the safety of you patrons should be 1st priority! But only in a more professional environment- The workers all have bad attitudes! They need some CS etiquette classes! I will never return here! Other patrons were complaining as well when I sat down- They closed before I don’t see why they re-opened. An hour wait for 7pcs of chicken is unacceptable!

There is no better chicken in Chicago And the staff will definitely put a smile on your face

I made the mistake of ordering here, and even after waiting over 30 minutes, my order still wasn't ready. Unless you have an unlimited lunch break, I wouldn't recommend it. The service was disappointing--especially with a cashier who seemed completely indifferent to the delay.

The service was just like a family interaction you really feel welcome, you don't have to wait long at all. The manager K.D super friendly and very patient and super easy to talk to. Food amazing best chicken i've had in my life if you're new around the chicago area definitely go here. The vibe and ambiance of the restaurant is so friendly and chill, music is great really makes the food hit the soul 10/10 overall.

Order online to avoid the wait! We ordered a tray of 20 wings with fries. Chicken was crispy and had plenty of mild sauce. Green beans were also good but a bit too salty.

Tried the six-piece chicken, and I don't see what the hype is about. The wings were small, had a lot of hair still on them, and without the sauce, they lacked flavor. Definitely not worth a return visit.

So today I was On my way work and it was only around 11:30ish and I ordered a half dark so I decided to go home to eat since I was running early and when I opened my food it looked ok until I bit into it and it was so tough and black on the inside like they reheated it and over fried it, me being an ex restaurant owner I know that's EXACTLY what they did because why would the chicken not be fresh and it's not even 12pm so I pulled apart the other 3 pieces and was totally disgusted!!! It was old, black and refried I spent $13.00 in there not to mention I was charged .69 cents for a Hawaiian roll because obviously they're food doesn't come with bread and the fries were supposed to be a medium and they were a small and was cold as hell and hard!!! NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO BACK IT'S ALWAYS THE BLACK OWNED THAT OVER CHARGE, WANTS TO UPSALE AND SELL BAD OVERCOOKED OLD FOOD ASS FOOD!! And I'm making sure to tell others about this disgusting ass place I wish I could put zero stars this place freaking SUCKS

The food here has always been a winner for me. The sauce is amazing, so much so that I keep a large bottle of it in house. A must try whether you're in the area or not, it's definitely worth the drive from afar. Uncle Remus food has stood the test of time for over forty years, and continues to meet my foodie expectations.

The wings were pretty tasty, but the weight is really long. Do yourself a favor and call it in ahead of time.

Never had a bad experience with this restaurant. I've airways come here for my chicken, gizzards and fries. Always hot and cooked like I wanted them. And I've never waited long to receive my food. The ambiance of the place is quiet and most importantly clean.

They are slooooow as ever.. Oh my gosh I wish it would improve because I love the chicken, although ridiculously priced. When I am in the area and craving some good chicken I go here, Clean location, but to wait 45 min to 1hr for 2 (6) piece meals is not conducive to my time.

The service could be a lot better,I mean, those guys act like they're lonely. Have your food sitting on the counter for 15 or 20 minutes before they inform you that it's ready. By then it's cold by the time you get home!

I love me some good chicken. Uncle Remus was one of my favorite places to come and order chicken. I'm not sure what went wrong. First compliant a rude lady behind the counter. It takes a day and forever for you to get your food. I understand. I want my chicken cooked fresh and nicely hot. But the wait is just too long. The prices are a bit too much. I started asking for my mild sauce to be on the side. From a previous visit my chicken was drowned in mild sauce. Which overpoured the flavors in my chicken. Better off going to Popeye's chicken.

Everything was fresh and tasty. Chicken and sauce was delicious! Was just here a week ago! Every time I come to the city I have to stop here

I am always in this hood so I go to this location the most. It's on the corner of the block. Parking is always available. The service is always nice. It has a family run vibe. They are pretty clean. Decent amount of dining seats/tables. I normally take mine to go. U wait a bit but who cares. I want my food cooked right and with love. Yes u can cook fried chicken with love. I like their sauce. It's sweet & sticky. The chicken is always fresh. I'm not a fan of fries but theirs is good. Fried okra is good. U don't get bread like Harold's but that's less carbs. Lol. They added daily & $5 specials. If u are into keto, vegan options, not the spot. If u want some good, comfort food, Uncle Remus got u. I hate to post but I ate my food without taking a pic. It was that good. Oh well next time guys.

This is my first time trying Uncle Remus... I had to because I been in the middle of Harolds Chicken vs Uncle Remus debates... Now I love me some Harolds chicken and that will always be my #1 choice.. BUT... Uncle Remus is Not bad at all... This location is very good! I was advised to order online because everything is dropped fresh and it would take awhile. I used Yelp to order my food ... I was told my order would be done in 50 minutes and I arrived 20 mins early it was already done. I ordered a 6 piece fried hard. My food was definitely fresh. The sauce is very thick and somewhat sweet and I actually liked it more than I thought i would... I have no complaints and plan to visit again!

I used to be in love with uncle Remus. This chicken was my late night after the club, after work etc. now, I tried my best to not come in here. You should never have to wait over an hour for chicken. Unless god is laying hands on that bird himself Never. No. Uh uh. Period. The chicken is usually fresh but the service? A whole hour for ten wings? No free pop or no extra wing for your troubles. Just excuses. Never again. They lost me. I need to lose weight anyway

Growing up I would hear people talk about Uncle Remus chicken. Back then the only location I knew of was in the city so I never tried their chicken. Fast forward and now they have a location in Broadview. Its been there for some years and I am just now checking it out. The place has a few tables should you choose to eat your food there but I got mine to go. The table I sat at while waiting for my food could have used a quick wipe down. It wasn't filthy but it had sauce remnants. The cashier was very polite. I ordered 4 wings with mild sauce (and hungry girl syndrome did not kick in...I remembered to take a picture before I started eating...lol) The wait for my order was pretty reasonable. The chicken was freshly prepared, nice and crispy and the fries were hot. Now was I blown away by the taste? NO. I felt the chicken could have used a little salt and pepper and the sauce was kinda "different" compared to other sauces I've had. It was very sticky and, to me, was a bit on the sweet side and I am not a fan of sweet sauce. I loved the crispiness of the chicken though. Can't say I'd be rushing to go back because there are other spots whose sauce I like better but at least can say I tried it (finally).

I started a new job in the area and grabbed food for my family in the South Suburbs to take home with me. I ordered their Monday special waited patiently for my food. With adverse weather, I had a longer than normal transit home. I pulled over a decided to try some of the food I'd just purchased. I found only one chicken wing in the package. I called back to the store and verified how many pieces should have been included with my special. They confirmed 8; I only had 7. I called back again and told them I seemed to be missing 1 chicken wing. The gentleman that answered my call told me to just come back to the store. Upon returning, I identified myself to the gentleman taking orders. He referred me to a young lady preparing meals in the back. She came to the front and rudely demanded that I go and bring my entire order back into the store. I did. Upon my return, I let her know that if removed the one wing and some fries from the container. She rudely informed me that the package had originally contained two wings, because she remembered having packed it so. I said I had absolutely no reason to LIE about ONE piece of chicken. She then threw the additional piece of chicken into my original a bag and flung it back to me with an overly apparent and TOTALLY UNNECESSARY attitude. I felt insulted and appalled. This was a meal and experience I surely could have done without. Whole chicken special

The girl at the window taking orders is so unprofessional it's crazy if you don't like ur job don't work there that simple.. told her what I wanted 2 times then she says you want chicken wings I said yes a 6 piece saucy then with a attitude she's say are u done I say no if u give me a minute I'll tell u my order add a 4p wing also now that's it.. I'll never come to the one on Roosevelt agn. The one downtown Chicago is better in my opinion

Simple Menu. Chicken, Tilapia + 3 sides. Good size chicken with simple subtle taste. Love the deals (5 Meals for Under $5). Clean bathroom. 2 outlets by the wall, near tables. MILD SAUCE has more substance in texture and flavor than Others. Kind Lady asked if I wanted 2 legs or thighs on my 3-pc DARK order. Most places, you don't have a choice. Thank you. I also appreciate her Watermelon Crush recommendation.

They got my other review review from yelp (picture attached) To sum it up they laughed I'm in my face before giving me my food. And while laughing and showing teeth he said if it's messed up come back. Unprofessional after me already waiting 20 minutes for fresh chicken and never receiving a phone call that my order was ready?

5 stars for consistency. I've had Uncle Remus and was afraid that if I tried this location, I would receive mediocre chicken. I was surprised to have the same taste from both locations. I called in and ordered their lunch special. It came with 2 pieces of chicken, bun and fries. Covered in mild sauce and hot sauce. And it was damn delicious and very inexpensive for what you're getting. I have to come here for lunch more often. As far as their customer service? I've never had any problems. They have always been polite. I feel like the phone order system sucks and I feel that they don't drop the chicken till you pay anyways, but I'm used to it. Nothing to complain about if you come in her expecting nothing less. And a plus, they accept credit cards. Most Harolds don't.

Tried again.... after so much attitude on the phone. I tried Door Dash. I have been waiting over two hours with no delivery. They close in 30 minutes but now they are saying I will receive another 45 minutes after they close. That's close to 3 hours for chicken wings !!!! SERIOUSLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!! Again attitude on the phone WHY do I try to support this business. I give up. Harold Chicken from now on... terrible. IF our food is cold I will update this review. At this point we will have for breakfast. It's now 10pm at night. Pathetic. This is what annoys me when I try to support my tribe. Low standards very low bar. UpDate: came at 10am verses 10:45. Gave 2 stars vs 1 because food was still warm and chicken was tasty. Please work on your timeline. I just finished eating after a 8:30 order. Wow

Wings were good and fried hard although I asked for normal; okra was fried too hard, had to drench it in sauce to soften them up.

Haven't ordered from Uncle Remus in a Vert long time , decided to give them a try again, first of all the lady behind the counter was very rude , When placing my order , then have to wait a long time , Just to receive old chicken & Old fries with sauce poured Over it , So I decided to take it back , the lady behind the counter , looks at it and says What's wrong with it , I explained to her that the chicken was old and the fries was cold , Instead of her apologize and saying she would remake my order , she tells me , she won't be able to make any more chicken and if she do It will be the same , So I ask her to Refund me please , You want to Support black business , but with the Bad /Food & Service,, You second guess where you like to spend you're Money

Okay so I decided to give this restaurant one more final try because the food is good. Listen I placed a online order at 5:30 pm to be ready at 6:40 pm . I arrived at 7:00pm and they told me 4 orders was ahead of me. All for 2 pieces of catfish and 3 wings . I'm going to just cross uncle Remus off my list.

I wanted to give a higher rating but here is why I didn't First you can't call in an order Second placing an order takes a minute however what gave this three stars was the staff member was absolutely a great woman 3rd the wait time was short but when I went to eat the food it was not hot Fourth and Final is they nickel and dime you on simple stuff I know that the price was higher than their competitor but you got less. For example you have to pay for bread. I probably won't be back

I got 6 wings with fries and extra mild sauce. They did me right with my order. The wings were fried hard. And they gave me a good amount of mild sauce. They didn't take all day either.

Most unprofessional people. I went in and it took 3 minutes for them to even acknowledge me and take my order, I ordered 2 large fries and told the associate I'd be right back, went next door took 5 minutes, came back and it took another 3 minutes for the lady to come and ring me up, I asked if they were ready she told me the fries were up and it would take another 5 minutes, which would have made me late for work. I think 10 minutes for french fries should have been enough time, she even asked me if I wanted to cancel so I said yes and left. Terrible customer service

I have vowed to never do business with them because of the horrible experience that I endured. The customer service was horrific and they allowed me to stand and wait for a online order for over an hour that they could not fill hoping that would just leave. It might not matter because I'm just one person but if enough of these situations occur it will ultimately effect their bottom line. Done trying to support this black business !!!!!!

They are slow I ordered today at 5:20pm young lady taking the order said 20 minutes. Well it's 6:25 and still no food. They wouldn't give a refund either. When asking The girl at the register keeps saying another 10 mins. The app and order option through website does not allow you to place orders in advance. This is by far the worse experience this place need to get it together!

Placed an order for 3 piece White, received 2 piece Dark. Called to complain- and returned to exchange for correct food- just to receive another wrong order! Not sure if it's the management, or the cooks that can't count- either way I'm done with Remus. Harolds would never and I was raised on Remus.

What can I say about Uncle Remus. My Fish is always good. However, the level of sanitation in the sitting area needs lots of work.

Poor customer service. They gave my DoorDash order away to the wrong person and refused to remake the order. When I called them they rushed me off the phone not willing to discuss the issue.

Great chicken always hot and fresh and of course the sauce is what keeps you coming back...but poor customer service. No call in orders at 8:30 when you don't close until 10:30....why? Please improve customer service. People spend their hard earned dollars in your business.

My husband has been bugging me about this place for 8yrs! He is a southsider & had heard of this westside landmark. I finally gave in and we tried this location. It took him an hour 2 bring chicken back. I was STARVING!!! I had 4 wings w/mild sauce. The fries were fresh, but warm not hot! The chicken too was fresh, but warm as well. It had a good crunch tho. For an hour wait the food should've come straight off of the chicken & into my carry out bag! The food also had too much sauce.. & their sauce is too sweet for my taste. I haven't eaten Uncle Remus in over 10 yrs, I use to occasionally go to the Central location, but it'll probably be another 10 yrs before I come back. I prefer Harold's honestly.

No frills. Just good,fresh fried chicken. The game day special is a good deal if you are having a party.

Best chicken I ever had, service is great people are friendly, and let me tell you that mild sauce is to die for, I wish I could fill up my bath tub with it and just go swimming

Solid 3.5 stars. I'd been wanting to try this location for awhile and finally stopped in. There was a wait as usual but my food was piping hot. It was still hot by the time I got home and ate it. The wings weren't tiny but smaller than I would have liked. The mild sauce wasn't plentiful but tasty. The chicken had good crunch and seasoning. My grandmama said her fish was good but no one got a roll. I thought they didn't provide one but previous yelp pics shows a roll. The customer service was solid. Cashier was friendly and professional; remembered who had what orders. Place was clean with a few tables scattered throughout. It was very hot but they didn't have AC on in the front, just a fan but I could tell the back had AC. Which makes sense because the cooks are working with heat but on 100 degree days I would think they want their customers to be cool while they wait. I'll be back but will probably stay away on hot days.

Typically go to the store on Madison and Central, but was nearby and this place did not disappoint as usual. Chicken was good, fries, and the sauce that sets them apart from everyone else is special! Mild sauce isn't wet and drippy, but kinda sticks to the chicken, fries, and even your fingers. Plus, their chicken isn't really greasy either.

A co-worker ordered from here today through DoorDash and the driver told him that the cook ended up cussing out everybody in the store all because of the obscenely long wait for the orders placed (ours was a small pan of chicken). The only reason the driver didn't walk out after that was because he already accepted the order pickup. I wish I could give no stars or at least negative stars because the cook's behavior was totally uncalled for and highly unprofessional, and he should be fired.

The food is delicious. The chicken is fried perfectly and the sauce is amazing (although VERY sweet). For this review I debated between 3 or 4 stars but went with 4 because I believe the food is just so delicious. Now the cons are the customer service is so-so at best. Most days they are not welcoming and my order has had something wrong or missing several times. Also, the prices are HIGH and continue to skyrocket and this started way before the chicken shortage.

The hours of operation (on the door) states the establishment opened today at 11. At 11, I stood outside as the worker removed the chairs from the table. The door was still locked and it was 30 degrees outside. I tugged on the door and I KNOW she saw me; I left. I figured they weren't interested in my business If I'm treated like this prior to ordering, who knows how my food or service might be

This review is strictly about customer service. The only reason they have 2 stars is because the food is consistently good! Otherwise the service deserves 0 stars. Apparently they ran out of everything except breast this day and instead of the cashier calmly telling me this, she shouts "we ain't got nothing but breast." At this time I'm still very close to the exit door and I nod and say it's fine. She is finishing up a transaction with the customer ahead of me then looks at me and says, with attitude, "so what you want?" I ordered a breast/fry/roll. I pay with my card and she slams my receipt on the counter and starts to mumble/curse how irritated she is with her job. The level of unprofessionalism was unreal! There's not many other locations to go to that are much better. The entire franchise/brand needs to teach their employees how to talk to customers or hire new staff to better represent them.

The food is amazing!!!! The Broadview chicken taste never changes!!! The problem is the staff is very unprofessional and rude!!! They really need some customer service training!! I have a video of them cooking my food and throwing fries at each other!!!!
