Uncommon Ramen

Amazing place! Ramen is one of the best I have had and always get the Bao Buns. Staff is wonderful and very accommodating. I find myself driving 20 miles just for you guys every so often.

Uncommon Ramen is such a staple for comfort food. So good its got us eating soup in the summer! My most frequent purchases are the Tan Tan. Kimchi, Pork Boa Buns with Kimchi Aoili, and the Pickles. The Tan Tan is so good with it's spicy savory broth, chewy noodles, and fresh bok choy. Uncommon Ramen has a list of ingredients you can add or substitute. The boa buns are like clouds with tender flavorful pork and pickled onion. The staff is always so pleasant and makes sure we have everything we need!

Cozy and lovely place to eat - we even walked in ~45 minutes before close and they were so lovely. The tonkotsu ramen was to die for. The staff was so caring and kind, making sure to accommodate any & all dietary restrictions! Will def be going back 🫶

Wonderful staff! So polite and accommodating! The ramen is amazing!! It tastes so home-made! You can tell your getting a nutritious meal. Would recommend coming here!!! 🙂

I enjoyed this little ramen restaurant in downtown Phoenixville. They had good vegan options and the food was super good. The menu is pretty small, but they do a good job with what’s available. We had bao buns with tofu that were absolutely delicious! The ramen was very good also! Overall I would come back if not just for the bao buns :)

Ordered takeout for Father’s Day, husbands choice, and honestly wasn’t overly excited with his choice initially….but after one bite I couldn’t thank him enough! I got the tan tan bowl, he got the tonkotsu bowl, and we split pork gyoza with spicy chili sauce. We were getting our bowls ready to eat & enjoy a movie and we both couldn’t stop slurping our bowls as we made our way to sit down. Such a delicious and comforting meal. We can’t wait to eat here again!

Got chili sauce to go with ramen but accidentally kept stuffing my face until everything was gone. I feel satisfied after one bowl but want to keep eating and push my limits. The girls behind the counter do their best even when it is really busy. They are attentive and accurate with custom orders. Wish kitchen was bigger for an expanded menu. Definition of strong women who fees the community.

First things first, make sure if you are eating here that you check the expiration date of your drinks and other food items! The drink they gave me had expired four months earlier, and it was a milk based soda drink. That aside, i don’t think i’ve ever had ramen that lacked flavor so much so as this places. Genuinely tasteless and not worth your money. The pork buns were good though! Edit: I was wrong, sorry. Five months expired. Photo is from late August 2024.

This place is a gem. If you're looking for the curly dry noodles you had in your hot pot, skip this. But if you're looking for something as close to what you'll find in Tokyo, go here. People probably show up here expecting the cheap stuff, which has its place, but here you get great ingredients and combinations, made by someone who clearly cares about their craft. Stellar little spot. Salivating just writing this!

So I've been here twice now. The first time I was not impressed. I think I got tokontsu.... Like others have said you have to know how to order here. The pork belly is not great here IMO. Flavorless and not tender. But the minced pork is fantastic! So swap them out. I also feel very strongly about wavy noodles versus thin noodles. Always swap those out too. Chilli oil makes everything better all the time so always ask for that for the table (it's free). Tonight I ordered the spicy miso but added minced pork and half egg. Always add the egg!! Always. The egg is the best. Tonight's order was far better than the last time I came here. And I owe it to the other reviews on this page. The only thing was there wasn't enough broth at all. Not nearly enough liquid and it felt almost thick. Still good. I also took someone's advice and tried the pork gyoza with chili oil - delicious!!! So so good. And it came with a good amount too (I hate when you just get 3). We were all very pleased with our orders. The service here is always really good. Cozy spot for sure especially on a Cold night.

Phoenixville and the surrounding areas - looking for a good ramen spot without having to drive down the ever so painful 76 to get into the city? Look no further. Uncommon Ramen hits all the right spots with classic Japanese dishes done perfectly. Small and quaint, walking into Uncommon Ramen reminded me of walking into a restaurant in Japan. Service was fast and wonderfully polite and the food came out quick and piping hot. The pork in the boa buns was tender and delicious with the perfect accompaniments to make it the complete package. The takoyaki were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and tasted as authentic as any I've had here and overseas. The tonkatsu ramen was was true to its name - creamy broth, tender chasu, perfectly chewy noodles. The part that seems to be most difficult for ramen shops seems to be the egg. However Uncommon Ramen nailed it with a cream yoke, even on the extra two I ordered. Satisfying, delicious, authentic. This is my new spot for ramen in the greater Philadelphia area.

Delicious ramen spot in downtown Phoenixville! Ok, so this place has 3.5 stars as of the time i'm writing this review, and i kinda get it. Don't get me wrong, i love this place and I order from it frequently during the colder months. First off, the appetizers. The gyoza are delicious, both in the pork sweet ginger sauce and the spicy chili sauce. My go-to is the pork gyoza in the ginger sauce and the chicken dumplings in the chili sauce. I personally find the pork dumplings a little bland without that sauce, imo. Also, bao buns, yum! however, two buns for over $10 is steep in my opinion, and they are okay, but not ground breaking. I generally avoid them at this point since i find the gyoza more flavorful and a better value. Chicken gyoza with spicy chili sauce is where it's at for me. As for the ramen, it's delicious, or some of them at least. The Tan Tan is absolutely delicious, and you can customize the amount of heat you get. I typically get hot, and I ask for half (or less) of the bok choy. They generally let you customize everything that goes in, but for some reason, when ordering online or through a delivery app, you can't customize the bok choy. I personally find it very bitter, and the physical structure of it makes it a bit difficult to eat. The bitterness of the green adds to the flavor of the ramen, but honestly, i wish there was less bok choy in there. The Tori Paitan is quite good, lots of flavor, and again, customizable. The Tonkatsu, on the other hand, is quite bland. That seems to be a thing with this place - bland pork. Not sure why, but stick with the chicken or minced pork instead. Also, top marks for making (almost) everything customizable. Change the noodle type, get extra noodles, add eggs, scallions, etc., whatever you want. That's pretty ideal. And they've always been willing to accommodate my requests, so also ideal. So honestly, i can see why some folks give it three stars, but i've ordered from here far too many times to give it any less than a four. Definitely give it a shot, but stick with the spicy or chicken dishes.

Uncommon Ramen has set my bar for every other ramen restaurant to try to reach. We are admittedly regulars and enjoy the tan tan along with the pork bao buns drizzled with the spicy aioli. The chef is happy to cater to your preferred level of spiciness, and we go all in with extra spice! Seating can be a bit limited, and if you can get the table by the window, you'll enjoy lots of people watching too. Fun place with chill vibes!

So I went here for dinner with a few friends on a. Friday night. It was just okay in my opinion and maybe it's because my friend hyped it up too much that I was disappointed. I got the tantan ramen it was lightly flavored. So it wasn't too impressive. I did add an egg and the egg was probably the most impressive thing about the ramen dish. My other friend got the soupless tantan noodles and thought it was ok. The pork bao bun with the hoisin sauce was good. The chicken Bao bun with the aioli is better than the chicken with the hoisin sauce but it's just shredded chicken on the bun so I wasn't all that wow'd by it.

My husband and I came here twice. We enjoyed our ramen but I think it does lack a bit of flavor and you will need add some spices to it. The place is small with limited seating and it's not the nicest place to sit and have a meal. Therefore, I suggest ordering out. Be prepared to wait some time though for your meal. Will stop here again if I'm in the mood for ramen.

We love this place! We've tried other restaurants on this strip but always come back to this one. The gyoza are the best I've had anywhere in Philly. Also the bao buns, too. The sauces for both are amazing- try both the spicy and non for the gyoza and the hoisin and the spicy for the buns. We've tried most of the ramen on the menu and they've all been really great- tonkatsu, tan tan, paitan, miso. I'm surprised by the less than 4 stars - frankly I think it's some of the best ramen I've had anywhere in Philly. Add the delicious half egg- and I like the chewier wavy noodles than the thin ones. You can sub what you prefer. It's cute inside and byo! It's really nice sitting outside in the warmer months.

I REALLY wanted to love this place! I love ramen, and had tried to come to the place several times, but they're only open Thursday through Sunday. (They share the space with another restaurant, Sol Kitchen!) So this was the third time before I actually found them open. However, as much as I tried to love it, I just couldn't. The only thing I can say that's really good is the semi-soft egg. Nothing else had any flavor. The broth was bland, the noodles were tasteless. There was absolutely no seasoning to anything. The thing special about Ramen is the broth. It should be complex and deep, something that takes hours to make. I could open a pack of 25¢ ramen at home, add some vegetables, and have more flavor than what was in this dish. A server came around to ask how things were after we finished. I asked if he wanted to hear that things were fine or if he wanted the truth. He said the truth, so I told him. He said the owner was Cantonese, making that seem like that was the excuse. My reply was it doesn't matter who is cooking, as long as they use good recipes. He could be Cantonese, Japanese, or from anywhere, but if he takes the time to research and get a good recipe, that is fine. If someone opens their doors and calls it "A Ramen place" just because Ramen is getting trendy, well that's not OK and don't expect people who know any better will come back. The best thing I can say is that things are cheap. $11.99-$13.99. I've spent a lot of time in Japan, so I do know a little bit about Ramen. Will I be going back again? Unfortunately, not a chance.

Worst ramen I have ever tasted. Noodles were hard, mushrooms were cold, broth was bitter. Plus it took forever just for some ramen. Will not return ever. edit: the worst thing about my experience here is the fact that the unsavory taste is etched in my mind. If i even think of this place the horrid flavor comes back and it makes me feel queasy. Beware of uncommon ramen.

I wanted to like this spot but unfortunately the food was bland and overpriced. I've had better broth from those cheap packets found at your local wegmans. Additionally, ordering the food in an hour advance wasn't enough time for it be ready for pickup. The Raman is definitely Uncommon thankfully

Stopped in for some nourishment after a massage. I ordered the spicy ramen with tofu and I had such Hugh hopes based on the reviews. Perhaps I misunderstood or am uninformed but I didn't expect a tomato type base broth which made the entire dish taste like spaghetti-o's. The "broth" ultimately dictated the taste of the veggies (mostly corn) and noodles. Needless to say, I was disappointed but hungry as heck so I ate the mildly spicy spaghetti-o like ramen mixture.

After my initial review several years ago, I've been back to Uncommon Ramen several times. The food, in my opinion, is still good. So what's changed? The service. This is still a small space, and they're doing takeout orders on top of seated tables. They're DEFINITELY prioritizing the to go orders. I've been here twice now where we've sat for well over an hour and a half, for ramen. Don't come starving, because it's going to be a while. Example - I'm sitting at the restaurant right now. After getting a table, we waited 10-15 minutes to place our order, bao buns and ramen (table for two). 30 minutes after that, the bao buns show up. I asked about how much longer from here till we get our food, and they said 10 minutes but were definitely unsure. Almost an hour to just eat apps? Not great. The food is good, I'd recommend it if you have the time, but I wish they'd get a larger space and some more servers to better accommodate both the seated tables as well as the to go orders.

What to do on dad/daughter date night. Well...While I'm not a huge gambler, I hit the jackpot here. New Raman joint in the hood. We shared the signature Tonkotsu ramen and wow...what flavor! It had just enough spice so it wasn't overpowering the rest of the other fantastic ingredients: I'm talking mushrooms, scallions, tender slices of chicken, a half whole marinated egg, bok choy, well I think. No shame as kept my face in that bowl until there was no more! Also, a few seats outside to people watch on a friday night. No shame to this game! Service was excellent and bathroom was fresh and clean. Really cute spot that looked to seat around 15 so super cute date spot as well. Cant wait to come back!jackpot here. An absolute gem in Phoenixville. You can't go wrong with ordering anything but the bao buns and miso ramen are chef's kiss perfect! Sometimes there's a bit of a wait for food, but it's well worth it! Enjoy.

I was excited for this place cause 1 I was hungry and 2, I love ramen. The place is new and small; twas very hard to find and they didn't have a sign up making it harder to find. The service was good; waitresses were friendly and we were seated right away. The food was very... Very... Meh... The broth was super bland, noodles are chewy, and the chasu was super fatty and not in a good way. The process of them making the ramen is definitely not what I was expecting. They just heated up all the premade ingredients on a burner... I was expecting a lot I guess for a place in collegeville. The pricing and everything is fine but my goodness... The food is super bland (at least to my Asian taste buds). I understand that they just opened but, from what I saw, they don't make the noodles fresh (maybe they made it in the back? But... )

Great food and family business. I dream about the bao buns and can't get enough of the tan tan noodle. tonkatsu is to die for. Bring a bottle and some friends and make sure you came hungry.

The staff was was very accommodating . We initially ordered takeout but we felt very safe to dine in instead. The outdoor seating was good, customer seating was not at all cramped up, sanitization between every customer, staff was wearing masks. They accommodated us and even reheated the ramen dish we ordered. Spicy miso ramen was very flavorful and spicy and filling! Will definitely visit again!

Really not good. Wife wanted to try this place so we gave it a shot. Service was very slow and uncommunicative. Took 45 minutes to get our apps and an hour to get our ramen - all the while takeout orders seemed to be going out fine. Dumplings were very good, but that was it. Noodles were very undercooked. Chicken was really tough. All in all, not a great experience. I get more enjoyment from a 50 cent cup noodle.

Ordered take out right exactly at 4:00pm and expected a long wait based on reviews. Arrived at about 4:50 and waited five more minutes after I arrived. Not bad. They packed our food really well. The ramen dishes were just okay. I thought the miso ramen I got was okay. Maybe it could have more taste somehow but it was a solidly okay dish. If you don't feel like cooking soup with veggies and ramen noodles, this place will be your kind of place. I can't find anything to complain about. Service was okay. Food was okay.

My friend recommended this place to me and my partner few weeks ago. We came on a Sunday around 6:30pm. Upon entering, it looked busy however I still hoped for the best. We were greeted by the waitress telling us to have a seat, she would be right with us with waters and menus, great! Well not so much because after waiting twenty minutes in this cramped, humid spot watching them prioritize take out orders, we are given room temperature water without ice paired with a blunt "what do you want". I tell the waitress we never got a menu and we just need three minutes. After deciding and walking past us at least five times and ten minutes later, I ask the waitress if we can place our order around 6:50. She looked at me like she completely forgot we ever arrived. My partner and I ordered Tonkotsu and Tan Tan. I asked for no bamboo shoots and to add bean sprouts. Maybe it was my own fault for being hungry before I came to a restaurant but at the 40 minute mark I couldn't help but ask the waitress if they had started making our food. She seemed very hesitant and said "uh yeah of course" and quickly turns away even though I wasn't finished speaking. I grabbed her attention again and asked if she could please go check if they had started to make our food. At this point my partner and I were contemplating the new Dim Sum place across the street instead. She comes back out and says they started to make it, but 15 more minutes pass and finally the table before us comes out! Then ten minutes later so does ours. They did not get my order correct, and I tried to tell the waitress but I was interrupted with a rude " no no no I'll be right there with your chopsticks". The couple who sat down about thirty minutes after we did, their food came out right after my partner's. All this and I was hoping for some good ramen, but it was a three out of ten, having had authentic ramen before. Awful service. Don't waste your time and money on a place like this when the Dim Sum across the street gives you all of your food before the waitress at Uncommon can even bring you a water.

Ordered takeout from here. My husband loved it! Best ramen he had in a long time. I've had ramen bowls in the past and this indeed was amazing. The only thing that happened was that I got sick immediately after. My husband was fine so I am unsure if it was just my meal. We both ordered the same thing. I will try it again and see if it agrees with me or not.

The owners and staff are always so much fun to chat with and grateful for the patronage. Best kimchi, sunomono pickles, and have never had a less than delicious meal here. You have to try the bao buns. Bao buns the bomb! Love this place. Highly recommend

Had been hearing great things about Uncommon Ramen and finally got to try it last night. We got the Sunomono, Kimchi sample, Tan Tan bowl (with half egg), and Tonkotsu bowl. Absolutely loved my Tan Tan bowl, it packed heat and a ton of flavor. The downfall is the size and the hours but it is definitely a treat to visit. Can't wait to stop in again, absolutely loved it!

WORST SERVICE EVER!!!! Can't even comment on how the food tasted cause guess what? WE NEVER GOT IT. Okay, I get that you're busy but waiting OVER an hour for food is ridiculous. People who came after us to order takeout left after getting their food. When i asked how much longer for our food they said 5 minutes. How the hell are you going to bring out our food in 5 minutes when you didn't even start making it?! Ridiculous. Left without eating. AND they have the freaking nerves to charge us for our bottled green tea. Never coming again. Get your order priorities straight please.

Small but mighty. Small menu but they do it well. For some reason good ramen is hard to come by in this area but this place fills the niche nicely. I always get the bao buns as an appetizer and you should as well. The broth has good flavor and they don't skimp on toppings or noodles. Very affordable and always a good option despite the time of year.

As I heard a new Ramen shop opened its door, I wanted to visit this place for a while. Finally time has come. While I was reading reviews, I had somewhat good expectations. ...well, honestly I can see a great potential, but...sadly I can only give 3 stars at this point. First issue is operation. Despite early hours (just after opening hour), it took quite while until Ramen bowl was served, like 30 minutes after ordered. Typically, I expect Ramen to be served rather within short period of time, like 10 min or less. Unless you wait in a line for your order to be served on very busy shop. Hopefully they will find the way to serve their ramen bowls in much shorter time than 30 minutes. The best part on Tonkotsu Ramen was its broth. Nicely done...tasteful and flavorful. I would say one of best Tonkotsu soup around. Next good thing was Chashu Pork. It was Very authentic style and a little finishing touch with torch burner added nice flavor on meat. Unfortunately, noodles were...questionable despite good broth. Overly cooked and chewy as if noodles were frozen after cooked once. This was really sad because broth was so good. If they could improve, or change, noodles, this Tonkotsu Ramen would be a star around Philly. Since broth was Yokohama style, some garlic would have added nice accent. Again, I think this place has high potential, and I hope they will improve...

Absolutely amazing! The tan-tan is my boyfriend and I's favorite, we can't get enough! The owners/staff are so nice and welcoming. Definitely our favorite ramen place!

Casual and tasty food. BYOB that will accommodate individual requests. I'm Vegan so I added zucchini and wood ear mushrooms and bok choy to my miso vegetable bowl. My friend got the seafood bowl (JJamppomg) special that was loaded with mussels, shrimp, calamari, and oysters. They will adjust spice level to your liking. Service was spot on. Make a reservation since it's small and hip.

Uncommon Ramen is a worthy visit if you are craving some delicious ramen! The menu is a perfect size and has something for just about everyone. The ramen itself is phenomenal. Expect a bit of a wait, but I can tell you the culinary experience is well worth it. Don't miss out!

Ramen in the suburbs is tough to find but this place is great. The spot is small, so take-out might be an option if you don't want to wait. Apparently they've been open for a short time (make sure you check the hours before you decide to go). I'm a fan and only gave it 4 stars because the wait time was kind of long. I guess they're still ironing out the kinks, but the wait is worth it. The broth is fantastic and the noodles are chewy which make for a great ramen in my mind. 5 stars once they finally iron out the wait time kinks, easily

Gyoza is very good, pickled cucumber were amazing. Ramen was very good but they do not have the traditional fish broth as an option which is a shame. The pork belly, bamboo and egg are excellent. Just needs the fish broth flavor to make it perfect. They also have Calpico!!!

This isn't your college dinner Ramen. Located right on Main Street and a ton of unique menu items makes Uncommon Ramen the best spot to get ramen in Phoenixville! The owner Drew is very knowledgeable and knows spicy!

So excited to be able to get ramen within a 10 minute drive. The people there were so nice!! And it's a cute shop with good prices and a great location!

I discovered the wonder of Ramen noodles while living in Hawaii. I would eat at Goma Tei Ramen in Honolulu. I LOVE that my hometown of Phoenixville has this amazing new Ramen Place! I had the Tan Tan. The Miso/chicken/sesame broth was delicious!! Can't wait to go back!

Yum! You should definitely try this place! Make sure you entertain trying some of the monthly specials. It's a small space, but the food as lots of flavor.

This place is definitely uncommon. In the sense that i've never had such bad ramen. I hope the chef can go try some real authentic ramen somewhere and fix their recipes. This just tasted like plain burnt pork. Toppings were cold. broth just carried the flavor of the grill. Best of luck to these guys hopefully they figure it out

We had really high hopes for this restaurant. It started off with the front doors being locked with the closed sign on the door. They just forgot to unlock the door and turn the sign which was odd. We then had to wait half an hour to get our take out food. It was supposed to be ready at 5:15 but didn't get it until 5:46. On top of that the food wasn't great and lacked in flavor. If you want to get true ramen you need to go into Philly.

Unfortunately they promised food would be ready by a specific time for pick up, but it wasn't ready until nearly 30 minutes later. It took an hour and a half for a very simple takeout meal. So my husband was waiting inside the tiny shared space. We ordered 2 bowls and shared an appetizer and it came to $50. Not cheap. And the food itself was disappointing. Just meh. All in all an unsatisfactory experience. We won't be back!

I thought this was a nifty idea since there aren't that many ramen places around here. I ordered this from doordash and although it was aesthetically pleasing, taste wise was mediocre. I forget which one I got but it was the spicy one and to be honest, it tasted very bland but a spicy bland. Not sure about the other ones but I wouldn't recommend the spicy one

Not much to say other than , not that great. Also bagging for takeout was a disaster- broth for one of the Tonktsu bowels spilled all over the floor of car, the rolls were ok, but not really worth $

If you are looking for your ramen fix, this is the place to go. Rare to find a decent ramen place, let alone one in the burbs. This place is top notch. The quality of the ingredients is incredible. You can tell that the pork is top quality. The broth is developed and not just quickly thrown together. The owners are local Phoenixville residents who you can tell care about the community and providing an amazing guest experience. Thank you for opening this gem.

The service was good. My waitress was nice and attentive. The food took a while to prepare, but other than that no real complaints in this department. The food unfortunately was quite disappointing. I had the tonkotsu bowl. The broth was very bland. The noodles were far too thin. Overall it was a major let down.

I heard a lot of great things about this place and have been wanting to try their ramen since it opened. I think it is cool that they share a kitchen and are only open certain days and times. Wait time was about 15 minutes, which was quicker than I expected. Staff was friendly. I was so excited to finally have the chance to try this place tonight and was a little disappointed. I got the Tan Tan ramen with an egg. The broth was rich, but was a little bland for my taste. My favorite thing about the ramen was the wavey noodles--they were thick and chewy. Other than that, it was okay.

So so so yummy! Tonkatsu,spicy, add extra meat, bokchoy, shitaki mushroom, and bean sprouts. Chili paste on the side. Delish!!

Pork Bao appetizer is very addicting. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen with extra pork. The extra pork with the Tonkotsu was a smart idea because of how amazing it is. Atmosphere is chill and cozy, music wasn't too loud, lighting is perfect, great spot to take a date. Service is excellent. Everything was delicious. I will definitely be back.

Love love love this place! The Ramen was spectacular and the staff was very friendly. Limited menu, small space, limited hours, but this place is popping and worth the shot. I imagine it's really great for take out, but we live too far so dining in is our only option. If you love Ramen, you need to try Uncommon Ramen.

This place is amazing! Great, friendly people running the place. I absolutely love the soft boiled eggs and the flavors in the broths. The hours aren't great but they're sharing space with another business. I'm hopeful they will be successful enough to have their own space eventually. There are a few other negatives to this place you'll need to expect; long wait times on the ramen bowls, no delivery service or delivery partners and no designated parking. Honestly... all that being said, the ramen is totally worth it! My husband and I are hooked!
